Collector's Tips / Re: Cheapest/best way(s) to buy old figures?
« on: March 23, 2006, 01:39 PM »
I'd suggest looking through the classifieds section on sites like this one. Many times you can get stuff for very cheap, and even make a friend out of the deal.  8)

Just make a list of what you want to buy, and the minimum condition the figures you want have to be in. Setting prices can be iffy, because you can be overcharged easily, so I'd just leave them out and you can work out the price with the seller. Shipping is paid by the buyer.

Its up to you as to how often you bump your threads. Its not against the rules, but its frowned upon to bump your thread too many times. A good rule of thumb is that when it hits the 3rd page to bump it.

Just keep an eye out for deals...eventually you'll find what you are looking for at a decent price.

Wow, those toys are only 7 years old  :P

Like Jesse said, its not too bad of a deal. Some of the sets are pretty nice.

Why would you leave the house in the first place?

Well. . .if you stuck around too much, eventually she would start talking.

Thats what the kitchen is for.

I'm posting this here because I think its a great post that may be edited/deleted.

By tykrazen in the Dustin for Fan Club Prez! thread:

Philip,

I think your statement really brings into clarity why some members of the collecting community are feeling alientated from Rebelscum. You view running Rebelscum as a business whereas many of the sites who are distancing themselves are run as FAN sites with no desire to behave like a business.

The evidence of the underlying philosophy of Rebelscum as a business is overwhelming. The fact that news articles are laced with advertisement links is a clear indicator. Your analogy of Rebelscum to a for profit network also demonstrates that concept. The short lived practice of 3rd party e-mails is another testament.

There is nothing wrong with that... provided you recognize that run as a business, the community at Rebelscum are CUSTOMERS. To make a statement such as you did on the front page today clearly crossed that line. Does NBC tell viewers they are dissapointed no one tuned into Joey? They would recognize instantly that is bad business.

Philip, I know you are a very sharp business man -- you would not have accomplished all that you have if you were not. Part of the reason Dustin for President is not going as you have hoped is because Hyperspace is a bad product. And by pushing the sale of an inferior product, you are cheapening what brand respect there is for Rebelscum. Your comments today seem to be doing the same.

I personally think Dustin is a great guy and I admire his gusto with this. I wish that the fan club would have done something less commercial and more altruistic -- for example offering the presidency to the person who brought in the most contributions for a particular charity. Had they done that I would be supporting Dustin in an instant. But the fan club is using this to compensate for the lack of renewals since C3. It is a blatantly commercial move that the Star Wars community, as a whole, is not embracing.

Dustin, I wish you all the luck in the world on this, but I'm not buying.... I've been unimpressed with the fan club and their business practices and made a decision not to renew. I won't waste my money on a bad product like Hyperspace.

I actually contemplated trying to get some sponsors after I saw the prizes one would get....but I doubt I could compete with the Rebelscum machine.

Don't be too sure Josh. You, Rob or Matt would have my support if any of you decided to run.

That is true. Dustin is losing afterall.

I actually contemplated trying to get some sponsors after I saw the prizes one would get....but I doubt I could compete with the Rebelscum machine.

However....it made for an interesting question.  What if someone else did run?  Could they promote their campaign on RS?  I know someone "from JD" probably couldn't....but what if I did?

Everyone knows I love that site.  So if I "ran" (and I'm only being hypothetical here), would I get in trouble for mentioning it at Rebelscum?

I'm sure they wouldn't welcome it with open arms. Afterall, Dustin's more or less running as Rebelscum.

Never-the-less, the nation of Latveria supports you, Josh and Zod.

If we could get one of the more prominent JD staff members to run, I think we'd have a chance to represent the coolest SW site on the net!

I nominate Colman.   :P

Seconded  ;)

Is anyone running against him?

Here are the current poll results.

So, that means that if, say, GreenDay101 were to have 10 people sign up and refer to him, he'd be the next Fan Club President?

That's the worst way to reward someone with the Official Fan Club's Presidency I've ever heard of.

Ian

I agree, thats a horrible way to chose the president.

I was curious to find out exactly what the president does, and basically if Dustin wins, he gets an all expenses paid trip to the San Diego Comic Con, a gift basket full of collectibles, and an article in the Insider. More info can be found here

So basically what everyone is voting for is to give Dustin some toys and a trip to San Diego.

Calvin and Hobbes, Fox Trot, and the Far Side were always my favorites and some of the best out there I think.

Agreed, those are my favorites as well.  :D

I think I've failed Phil by not signing up to vote for Dustin.
