JD Sports Forum! / Re: The NBA is back!
« on: January 27, 2004, 02:44 AM »
I just saw that the 1st in their Division Nets fired coach Byron Scott today.

Just what I was stopping in to point out mosnab.   ;)  Pretty bum deal Byron got there, and I can only guess it had something to do with his repoir/relationship with Jason Kidd not being too great (possibly a few of the other players too, but it sounds like Kidd spearheaded the attack).

Pretty weak.  Take your (previously horrendous) team to the NBA Finals two years in a row, and currently in first place in your division, and you still get the axe?  Damn.  That's harsh.  I really hope Byron lands somewhere else next year, and sticks it right back in the Nets ass the first chance he gets!  Horrible how some coaches get treated nowadays, especially by their own players.

Looks like San Antonio's rise was short-lived, as they've been sliding pretty badly again the last few weeks, leaving room for the T-Wolves and Mavs to start climbing the charts again, to join the Kings near the top.  All the while, the hobbled Lakers minor league team remains close behind.  Should be an interesting race later in the year when everyone's teams are healthy.  Then the real fun will begin!

I was excited to see LOTR take home best movie (drama), director, and the score and song awards.  The more hardware for this flick, the better.  Well deserved, and hopefully it'll repeat, along with Jackson as Director, at the Oscars.

I was also glad to see Charlize and Renee win their actress awards.  Charlize was amazing in that Monster role!  Good to see Sofia Coppola get the Screenplay too (not listed here).

My only disappointment last night was Johnny Depp not winning best actor for a Comedy film (comedy?).  Hopefully Johnny will get another shot when the Oscar nods roll out tomorrow.  But Bill Murray has always been insanely funny throughout his career, so I was excited to see him recognized with a GG award.

Should be interesting to see what surprises and disappointments the always interesting Oscar nominations have in store for us tomorrow morning!

Hercules, Snow White and Quasi Moto were all having lunch together.

Hercules said, "I have always thought that I'm the strongest man in the world, but how can I be sure?"

Snow White agreed.  "I'm told I'm the fairest of them all, but sometimes I wonder."

Quasi Moto said, "I'm pretty sure I'm the ugliest human alive but I've never had it confirmed."

They all decided that the best way to find out if their beliefs were true was to pray about it that night and ask God to confirm for them whether Hercules was the strongest, Snow White was the fairest and Quasi Moto was the ugliest.  They agreed to meet again the next day for lunch to discuss their findings.

The next day Hercules walked up with a smile.  "Well, it's true. God told me that I am the strongest man in the world."

Snow White perked up and said, "And I now know for sure that I'm the fairest for God confirmed it."

But Quasi Moto lifted his sad face and said, "Who is Linda Tripp?"

Star Wars Action Figures / Re: A better Wampa
« on: January 23, 2004, 04:16 AM »
Very, very nice paint details added to an already cool figure there marc!  It's amazing to see what more can be done to spice up the average Hasbro product.  It's just a shame that Hasbro can't do that themselves for the start, since unfortunately not all of us have the customizing skills to create cool stuff like your Wampa there.   :-\

Great work.  I'm jealous.  Why do I venture into these customizing forums in the first place?  Just gets me all depressed every time!   :P

Would it be lame to call your work "breathtaking" Muftak?  Not sure how else to describe it.  It's just awesome, and the jealous pangs shooting through my body right now are most unpleasant!  You are indeed lucky to have such great customizing skills, and as a result, such wonderful one-of-a-kind toys.  Doesn't seem fair to the rest of us, but I'm sure you deserve it for the many hours of hard work I'm sure you've put into this spectacular diorama.  I can't wait to see the finished piece!

So here's a question:  What's up next once you've finished the Death Star?  The Cantina?  Jabba's Palace?  Or just retirement?

Clone Wars '03-'05 / Re: RED ARC Trooper?
« on: January 19, 2004, 06:48 PM »
This figure is still a thorn in my side, and one of the only figures I've never seen at retail.  I keep expecting them to finally trickle out, along with some more of the HTF CW wave 3, but alas, I've seen nothing.

Odd that Canada seems to have quite a plethora of them though.   ???

Clone Wars '03-'05 / Re: Clone Wars Animated Cards
« on: January 19, 2004, 06:42 PM »
Most of the ones I've seen are pretty mint, even on the back.  There are a few though, that have some creasing or stressing at the points where the bubble was attached.  This is pretty common on a lot of Star Wars figures though, so I don't pay it much mind.  Good luck with your MOMC hunting Thomas.

As for the animated figures cards and bubbles, I rather like the design of them, perhaps even moreso than the standard Saga line.  The character's pictures stuck on the bubble are quite cool!  Definitely don't like just that one "sharp corner" though.  Looks a little strange when the other three are all rounded.

I agree too.  This was a fantastic book, with some great reference pictures right alongside the figure shots, for easy comparison.  I'd much prefer that it's updated through a new book, or even two, rather than a couple pages each month in the Insider.

But honestly, I'd prefer one giant, comprehensive Star Wars figure encyclopedia, with everything in it!  Now that would be cool!   8)

The Original Trilogy / Re: Star Wars - Roger Ebert's Greatest Movies
« on: January 19, 2004, 06:34 PM »
That's cool to read again mosnab.  Thanks for the link!  I vaguely remember watching the Siskel and Ebert episode where they reviewed the Special Edition of Star Wars, and praised it quite a lot.  I'm pretty sure that I read this same review you just posted too, way back then.  Really got the Star Wars fire burning in me again!

Man, was that a fun time to be a Star Wars fan, or what?  The rekindling of our beloved saga!  Until Greedo suddenly shot first, that is.   ::)

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Rate your job satisfaction...
« on: January 19, 2004, 06:24 PM »
My job satisfaction comes and goes.  I work as a bank teller, so it's some pretty monotonous work after you've been there for a while, but it's not too bad really.  I'm hoping to move into more of a managerial position there in the next year or two, so that keeps my hopes and attitude up.  I'm sure there's some jobs out there that I'd be happier at, but this one will do for now.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Your favorite quick snack..whatcha like?
« on: January 19, 2004, 06:20 PM »
Gosh, just about anything within reach in the kitchen, and quickly inhaled with little to no prep time.  But I suppose if we're trying to go beyond the average cookie/cracker type of thing, I'd probably say a quick bowl of cold cereal or maybe some toasted bread with a slice of melted cheese on it.   I'll also spread some butter on a tortilla and nuke it for 10 seconds.  That definitely makes for one of my favorite snacks too.

There's usually some cold pizza in the fridge too, so that always makes do in a pinch!   8)

I thought this was a pretty good Deluxe figure back in the early POTF2 days, with the exception of the big, bright laser bolt thingee that it shoots.  I definitely wouldn't mind a new one though!  When's it's release date?

Saga '02-'04 / Re: Jabba's Palace Wave
« on: January 19, 2004, 06:12 PM »
Holo Luke is still blah, but Rappertunie looks great, but his colors are a little off in places (face, stomach).  Not too good of a blend with the yellow and green there.  But I still can't wait for this one.

Something's out of whack with Lando's face too.  Doesn't look right, and doesn't even look like some of the earlier loose shots we saw a month or two ago.  Hopefully it'll look better when it hits the shelves soon, since it would be a shame if Hasbro somehow dropped the ball at the last minute on what looked to be an incredible figure.  The rest of him looks great though!
