30th Anniversary Collection / Re: Jabba's Skiff Guards Battle Pack
« on: December 18, 2007, 06:57 PM »
Taking past history into account, we did get a TSC Skiff Battle Pack.  That one was focused on the Skiff that Luke, Han, Chewbacca and Lando were aboard.  It's entirely possible that this one could focus on the other Skiff.  So perhaps we'll get some of these characters:

Gailid

Kithaba

Lathe

Pote Snitkin.  I included him since he was the pilot of the second Skiff.  And I can't recall if he's been reissued.

Velken Tezeri

And of course, there may very well be a Luke Skywalker packed in for good measure, fighting these particular skiff guards.  ;D

The Legacy Collection / Re: Droid Factory Build A Figure
« on: December 18, 2007, 05:51 PM »
I went back and re-read the original text:

Quote
The Droid Factory waves is currently planned to include 30 figures in 2008, each with an additional piece that together will create one big droid.

So my theory about a series of droids for every wave seems to have been shot down.  At least by the original report.  So I started thinking again about BIG DROIDS.  Here are the ones that come to mind:

This one caught my eye right off the bat.  It's the SRT autonomous short-range transport.  You would probably recall it from the Geonosis droid factory, as C-3PO falls and is caught by this self-same droid.  An AOTC C-3PO would be an interesting add-in to this particular droid.  The fact that this droid is found IN the Geonosis Droid Factory leads me to believe that this could be our prime candidate.

And there are a few large droids that I could think of from REVENGE OF THE SITH.  One is the IW-37 pincer-loader droid.  It made the ROTS visual dictionary, but it didn't really get any screentime in REVENGE OF THE SITH.

And another is the CLL-M2 ordnance lifter.  Again, it was in the visual dictionary but I don't think I saw one in ROTS.

Another possibility are some of the Seperatist Droids.

First there's the Heavy Missile Platform or as it's more commonly known, the Droid Gunship.

Next is the previously mentioned Homing Spider Droid.  It's definitely a large droid, and I know that a good number of collectors have been calling for one since 2002.  But I think it might be a better fit in the Assault Vehicle line.  Nevertheless, here's an image.

And there's also the Droid tank.  Again, this seems more likely as an offering in the assault vehicles line.

As far as large OT droids, I think there are only a few candidates.

Here's one of the Binary Load Lifters that C-3PO mentions but we never saw in the movies.

There's the Imperial Probe Droid, but I'm not sure how likely that is given the fact that we already have one.

Those are really all of the large droids that I can think of.  So I think these might be some of the options we have in this particular case.

I saw a number of army builders today.  Namely the 7th Legion Clones and Rebel Vanguards.  And I passed.  It used to be that I would scoop up all of them, and build some substantial armies.  Now, I'll get them when I can.

And I also saw the Mighty Muggs for the first time today.  I think they're pretty cool.  But am I going to get them?  That's unclear right now.

I saw the Force Unleashed color-change lightsaber today at retail.  Looks like things are starting to make their way out.

Finally saw wave 7.5 in a store today.  It was somewhat underwhelming.  I passed on the whole set.

Hasbro has one legitimate point that I can understand:  they don't want to get people's expectations up needlessly.  That leads to bad feelings among collectors and I can understand them trying to avoid some bad PR.

But Hasbro has SOME responsibility to bear here.  Why?  Because they're letting collector media dominate the news cycle about the line.  News releases have been few and far between.  The Q&A process has been a nice sort of news supplement, but we've gotten less and less in the way of news releases from Hasbro.  Hasbro has let the situation change so that collectors are depending more on collecting websites than on official Hasbro news.  The end result is that those websites run with what news they can find, and since they're collector media and not regular press they'll publish info without the fact checking and confirmations that a regular reporter would do.

If Hasbro decides to be more forthcoming with the info, then maybe they wouldn't feel the need to post the things they said today.

Wow.  This is a pretty significant response from Hasbro.

I've heard that some people inside Hasbro have been wondering just where Rebelscum has been getting info and/or hard copies of product so early.  I wonder if this info might be significant enough that Hasbro is able to trace it back to the party who leaked it out.

They had taken a hard stance on things like this a few years back.  I remember their PR team basically threatening to embargo websites that were posting unauthorized imagery of some unannounced figures.  I wonder if this incident is going to elicit a similar response towards collecting sites.

A 30 piece droid does seem like a little bit of a stretch, practically speaking.  Making multiple droids, perhaps one per wave of 5 or 6 figures, does seem a bit more feasible than making 1 huge, 30 piece droid.

So if that's the case, I wonder if the droid that you would make for each wave would fit in with the theme of each wave?  Certainly, it fits in with the build-a-figure concept that's become very popular with other toy lines.  Especially when you look at the concept as it works in the Marvel Legends line.  There's one build-a-figure for each wave of basic figures.

Hmmm.  This definitely gets the wheels turning.  As far as large droids go, there are really only a couple that I can think of.  The most notable one being the Homing Spider Droid.  There's also a droid from ROTS that's just barely visible.  I think that was a loadlifter droid.

I saw a new wave listed in the latest issue of Toyfare.  It's got Flash, Snake Eyes (original uni in black), a Crimson Guard, Iron Grenadiers Destro and Snowjob.  This line is getting tougher to resist with the quality of the figures.

The Clone Wars '08-'13 / Re: AT-TE to be released next fall in 2008!
« on: December 15, 2007, 03:00 PM »
Very encouraging news!  The $100 price tag is high, but for something like this I think it's to be expected.  I wonder just how big it's going to be, and what kind of features we can expect.

As for OT large vehicles?  A Tantive IV would be too small to have any kind of diorama that people really want to stage.  The Rebel Transport is kind of boring.  Jabba's Sail Barge is probably the only really interesting thing that could be made with *SOME* level of accuracy and have some play value.  Other than a completely redesigned Millenium Falcon, that is.
