Title: Neca Toys
Post by: MetalJedi on February 2, 2006, 10:48 PM
Well other than picking up the ball where McFarlane left off with they're Movie Maniacs line they have made some really awesome toys as of late. This one is coming out very soon. And is a must have for me.  ;D

NECA is like the McFarlane of seven years ago. McF has gone into lame territory, plus they're more concerned with the Sportspicks lines.

NECA's had Kill Bill, Sin City, Ghostbusters, and other groovy stuff that McF didn't even try for, instead going for Corpse Bride and Napoleon Dynamite.

NECA's paint applications could be a little better, though. And their likenesses of characters aren't quite as good as the stuff McFarlane puts out, but they're getting there.

I am hoping they try to go after Spaceballs, Sopranos, and Caddyshack. Those would be awesome lines.

NECA's POTC, and POTC2 lines are just fantastic. When the Hobbit movie gets here, I hope NECA gets the line, or Prince Caspian, that would be sweet.

Anybody found Bill from Kill Bill series 2? I'm having an absolute bitch of a time finding one. I scored the rest of the wave (and at 75% off to boot) but Bill continues to elude me.

Where did you find these at 75% off? The Hot Topic near here has  like 3 of Bill and 3 of Uma.

My local Sam Goody has them on clearance. They're not closing, so I wonder why they're on clearance already.

I think I'll check Hot Topic. I forgot about that place.

I'd love to see somebody do figures from The Big Lebowski, Fight Club and Pulp Fiction.

Three cult classics for our generation.

I just saw Cult Classics 3 and the 12" Frank the Bunny this weekend. CC3 looks pretty good though i'm only interested in McClane. Frank the Bunny on the other hand was FANTASTIC! The paint app was a world of better from the 6" version. I would have picked it up but my b-day is right around the corner. I did drop mad hints to the Mrs though...  ;D

Scored the Endoskeleton from Cult Classics 3 today. It's great. I think the McFarlane version's face is more sinister, but this new one has a bigger gun and size really does make all the difference in the world.  :)

Some of their Summer Show Exclusives...

Exclusives (http://necaonline.com/newsupdates19.html)

I have to pick up the Jack Skellington and RPD Uniform Leon Kennedy

They also have on tap another variant of Jack Sparrow from POTC2 from Cannibal Island.

NECA announced that they got the Harry Potter license. They also showed alot of cool pieces at Comic-Con.

Among them were the Shaun of the Dead Winchester 2 pack with Shaun and a zombified Ed.

A figure from the upcoming Grind House movie.

A bunch of new NBX stuff. Including Behemoth and the Easter Bunny.

Hopefully they will update their website with some pics.

Anybody still collecting anything from here?

I picked up an S-Mart Ash the other day.  I'd picked up a regular, medieval (?) Ash earlier in the summer and didn't even realize they were doing the S-Mart version.  I was tempted by the Highlander box set as well but it's just too damn much up here ($40).

I've picked up a few lines to take pics of for the ToyTraderz Toy Database, but I haven't ended up keeping anything.  The figures look *fantastic*, but for the most part I just can't get into the mini-statue "action" figures.  I've had issues with quality and durability as well.  More than one small piece has snapped while taking them out of the package.

That being said, I'm 99.9% sure I'll be keeping the AVP-R and Castlevania figures.  :)

I'd still buy them, if I could find anything but Pirates figures. Someone that works at the local Spencers cleans out all the Shaun of the Dead and Army of Darkness stuff, leaving the remnants.

I did buy quite a few of their POTC figures, but I dropped off on those when they went up to $15 each.

After hearing good things about NECA and the Cult Classics line, I purchased a Hall Of Fame Jason Voorhees (Part 2) from Amazon. Great figure, the sculpting is top notch, and Pamela's decapitated noggin is a nice touch. Has NECA made any other Donnie Darko figures besides Frank? I've been looking for the 7' Frank for a while but to no avail.

Just the 12" & 7" Frank figures - nothing else.  It's a great looking figure - definitely worth the $15-20 you'll spend on one (and you can get the 12" version for around the same price as the 7").

Hopefully NECA will rerelease the 7' Frank in the Hall Of Fame line, or make some new DD figures. I'd love to see Donnie in his skeleton suit, and Grandma Death would be great as well.

I'm super excited about Beetlejuice and Scut Farkus.  The Dread Pirate Roberts looks great and I think they'll do some great things with that line, but I'll pass on them.  There is a Beetlejuice coming out later in the year in his red tux also.  Can't wait for that one.  Seeing what NECA had at Toy Fair, aside from the Harry Potter figures I was probably most excited about Jareth & Hoggle (http://www.toytraderz.com/modules/eventgallery/v/toyfair2008/NECA/toyfair+004.jpg.html) and Stair Walking Regan from The Exorcist (http://www.toytraderz.com/modules/eventgallery/v/toyfair2008/NECA/toyfair+002.jpg.html).

Dread Pirate Roberts, Schmead Pirate Roberts, Beetlejuice, Schmeetlejuice, Farkus, Schmarkus.  It's all about the Ninja Turtles (http://bp3.blogger.com/_gb-JVVPbQkU/R8RNire_2HI/AAAAAAAAB-M/Fb_FTUmcwSY/s1600-h/NECAbox.jpg) baby.

Comic accurate bandanas, real chains on Mikey's chucks, and Raph can hold his sais between his fingers.  That's ******* awesome.

I picked up the masked and unmasked AVPR Preds from my Neca hook up. Very nice and both stand alot better than the Alien/Pred Hybrid figure. Now I just have to get the open mouth version and I think there's a half invisible version being released as well.

For those into the Ninja Turtles and by chance are going to NYCC you might wanna swing by the NECA booth. Peter Laird co-creator of the Turtles is going to be at their booth on Saturday April 20th from 1-3pm signing this:

It's limited to only 500 pieces and will be the only time that they will be packaged in a box set. The set will cost $50.

Not quite, Robb.  There's a box set coming to "retail" with all four turtles and their weapons.  You won't get the little turtles and other accessories like the light poles, but there is a chance to get all four turtles at one time.  If you want the little turtles, lightpoles and bases and don't happen to be lucky enough to buy the NYCC set, then you have to buy the four individual carded turtles, which will come with all the accessories in the NYCC boxset.

I don't really care about all that extra stuff and just wanted the four basic turtles and their main weapons, so I pre-ordered the basic boxset from BBTS.

Anyone here have any experience with NECA customer service?  I've tried to contact the customer service and sales through their website on multiple occasions since I got ToyTraderz running and have yet to get a response.  I tried again this weekend for a customer service issue - I bought the AVP-R Predator figures and one was missing a mount for one of his shoulder cannons, so I contacted them asking what I needed to do to get a replacement.  Again, they have yet to reply to me.  I'm just wondering if I'm the only one getting ****** customer service or if others have experienced the same thing.

And on the subject of Gears of Wars, those that haven't seen the Exploding Head Locust (http://www.toytraderz.com/modules/eventgallery/v/toyfair2008/NECA/toyfair+029.jpg.html), do check it out.  It's freakin' sick (in a good way).  :)

JohnH- I have a quick question for you about the Predator figures. Is there one version that you can recommend more than the other? I'm interested in getting one, as I love the movies, but I don't want to spend $30-$40 just for two different heads. Your input would be much appreciated!

From what I hear from others that have tried to deal with their customer service is that it's pretty much none existant. Most of them gave up after awhile which doesn't make any sense. As for that Exploding Head Locust figure, that is awesome!

The accessories also vary between the two figures, though I still don't know if it's enough to warrant the need for two figures.  :)  They could have easily packed them all together, bumped the price by a few bucks and made collectors happy.

The figures themselves are exactly the same save for the head sculpts.

The accessories vary a bit.  The masked Predator comes with a shoulder cannon, the spear, one of the ridged back pieces and the other back piece with the blades on the bottom.  The unmasked Predator comes with an alternate hand, whip, shuriken, ridged back piece and two shoulder cannons.

Personally I've always liked the look of the Predator with his mask on...gives it a more mysterious nature, I guess.  While I dig the spear, I like the accessories on the unmasked version better in this case.  I guess it all just depends on which head sculpt you like better coupled with which accessory grouping you like best.  You could always buy both, mix and match and sell the extra.  :)

Hey John, thanks for the pictures. I liked the design on the mask more than unmasked, but I'll probably go with unmasked. The mask on the masked figure looks too much of a light gray color. The ugly nature of the unmasked Predator head makes it much better looking to me. Plus, the whip is a pretty badass weapon. I'm definitely taking a trip to the mall this weekend to get the unmasked version.
