It’s tempting to pick up more Tusken Raiders.  But the frozen joints are a real deterrent.

What’s this about frozen joints now?

I first heard about the frozen joints on the Tusken Raider from a Bossk’s Bounty review. He found that the neck and wrist joints were frozen on the new Tusken Raider.  And if you try forcing them there have been numerous social media posts about hands and heads breaking off.  The old customizer’s trick of placing the figure in boiling water might be a remedy, but I haven’t tried it with the two figures that I opened, which of course are suffering from the same issue.

Yup, that's where I saw problems too. Pulling off the head did the trick for me, but I'm not sure I freed up all the wrists on mine.

Something you can try with your figures—once you have the problem parts disassembled—is to use the natural oil on the sides of your nose (by your cheeks) to give the parts a little slip. I know, it sounds super gross, but I remember learning about that oil in a science class in college. It's one of the most versatile oils in nature, outside of whale blubber.

My Tusken wrists were fused iirc.  Paint washes’ll do that.  IG11 has some issues too.

I have run into this several times over the years.  Just take a hair dryer on high and point it directly at the join you want to loosen for 30-45 seconds.  It softens up the plastic a bit but doesn't melt it or hurt the paint.  you can then typically move the joint a bit to loosen it up.  I've also used this to fix wonky knee joints or accessories with bends in them.  Loosen it up, set it the way you want it, and let it cool.  Boiling works too, but a lot more work to set up and then you're literally boiling water into the cracks, which I feel like could come back to bite you over time.

Thanks for the tip.  I was finally able to try the hair dryer technique and it worked.  On the two Tuskens that I did this too the left wrist was the most challenging one - I actually had to wait for it to cool and firm up in order to get the wrist to swivel freely.  The heads were pretty easy, and it's no doubt because the size of the neck post and the head make them inherently stronger.

Glad it worked!  I have a hair dryer in the bathroom near my Star Wars cave and its sole purpose is fixing toys.   ;D

Such a better way to do this - and safer, too.  I remember burning myself doing some "boil and pop" work back in the day.

I decided to pick up a few of the Tuskens and a Luke. I already got the DSD from Tunghori earlier this month.

I'll have to try the nose oil trick... I've definitely never heard that one before...

I'm assuming these are just repacks, or is there something meaningfully new here?

This version of the Death Star Gunner was released on a Rogue One card, but that figure is pretty scarce.  I think this gunner might have the Imperial Sigil on the shoulder, unlike the RO version.

R2-D2 is a pretty clean version.  If it's on a TESB card like advertised, the sensorscope isn't the one that's shown on the card.  That's actually the periscope R2 uses on Dagobah, when he's completely filthy.  Details, details...
