Title: holiday get2gethas, Can you feel it?!
Post by: Darth Slothus on December 9, 2005, 04:48 PM
Holiday family get togethers.....my take:hate 'em..is it just me?(the hating part)
-every year same drive or flight up to northern cally=boringggg
-every year see relatives that I only see at this time every year...
do I really know them? No
-have to fight with spouse over family time sharing..(my family south side, hers
 the north)..every year
-get pissed about a full van of too many gifts for the 4 of us to take home
(can't see out the rear view mirror because so much crap)
-personal time while on vacation(what I wanna do)?.No, it's a time share schedule
 between families
-get to see truly hated sister that the family dislikes/could do without(black sheep) >:(
-no wonder I'm so pissed and can't wait to get back to normal life when I come
home..I feel like a droid performing the same tasks every year
-can't remember EVER having own core family holiday..EVER
 and..can't convince HER because she's a homebody

The only part of the holidays I hate is the two different parties.  One for my wife's family and one for my side.

I can't wait till we get a big enough house to host the holiday parties and I can stay home and watch sports.   :P

That sounds reallly nice....unfortunately if my wifey ever allowed us to do it in our home. I still couldn't relax with the TV because...(and this directed by the significant other) I would be being a sloth and " I need to mingle with the guests" >:(

What's even sicker is she's so demented she wants a christmas tree and lights up on the house every year even though we're never home to enjoy it..we always leave for 2 weeks ::) ..LOL my argument for "why even do it if we're not gonna be here to appreciate it, Hon?" prompts a frying pan swipe :(

The worst thing that ever happened to me was on Christmas. Oh, God. It was so horrible. It was Christmas Eve. I was 5 years old. Me and Mom were decorating the tree, waiting for Dad to come home from work.

A couple hours went by. Dad wasn't home. So Mom called the office - no answer.

Christmas Day came and went, and still nothing - so the police began a search.

Four or five days went by. Neither one of us could eat or sleep. Everything was falling apart. It was snowing outside. The house was freezing, so I went to try to light up the fire. That’s when I noticed the smell.

The firemen came and broke through the chimney top. And me and Mom were expecting
them to pull out a dead cat or a bird.

And instead they pulled out my father.

He was dressed in a Santa Claus suit. He'd been climbing down the chimney, his arms loaded with presents. He was going to surprise us. He slipped and broke his neck. He died instantly.

And that's how I found out there was no Santa Claus.

That's very sad Jared :(...I don't no what to say except I think this thread is dead now

How traumatic, so is this

My father took a different route...he never cared about us as kids. Mom and him got a divorce when I was 5. He visited with us a few times a year..particularly when he wanted to show us off to his newest bimbo. then one year I sent him drawings for christmas(I was 12). He didn't acknowledge it, so I called him on christmas day. I asked the selfish bastard if he received my gifts and why he never called anymore- He said a bunch of major banks rebuked in Texas and he was short on cash to visit, make calls or mail cards-yeah right, he had probably a million dollars-he used to drive panteras and **** to show off.

So, I refused to speak to him again....until 18 years later only to show him his grandkids and to see if he changed at all. First things he says is "I knew you would come back to me, I knew you'd come to your senses". Undaunted, I tried to visit him on his millionare's golf course resort Texas home again a year later- he said "sure come on out"...then he went out to play his regular sunday golf game without us after we drove 4 hours to visit?! that was it..he's 67 selfish, selffull and still hasn't figured out life -I stopped communications with him again 5 years ago forever this time...If he dies, then he dies

And that's another reason I hate the holidays, the end  :( >:(

Bummer that Slothus isn't my Secret Santa.  I know what I'd get him.

This year will be the first Christmas in 34 years that I won't be spending with my family, thanks to our scheduler who screwed me out of my Holiday Leave.  It's the same thing every year each Christmas with my family as well, but I'm really going to miss it.

The bright side is, I get to spend Christmas Eve with my Girlfriend, so maybe I can start some sort of new holiday tradition.  :D

You know, it is a shame that you had such a sucky Christmas when you were younger, but think of your kids now and the impression they are getting from you being so miserable now year after year.
There is no guarantee in life, and if this was the last Christmas you had with your family, how would you want it to be?

he,he I NEVER look that far ahead. My kids have a blast at christmas they couldn't begin to understand my problems because they have a dad that loves/cares about them. I'm not the "make it bad for everyone else type" just venting my frustrations in a simple forum( to be made a mockery of ...it's all good-I'm sure I deserve it,so pile on ;))

I don't have much problem with holidays but at the same time I don't have much family, nor are they close to begin with.

I'll spend X-Mas eve just in my hometown where my grandmother lives.  She hosts for my father's side of the family, but that's small especially this year since people have work and things and can't come.

I'll go home a little while then later go to my girlfriend's house a while and hang out with her, help her do the gifts and then I'll go back home.  I'll spend X-Mas day with my parents and my brother will probably be there.  I'll eat dinner at home with them as my girlfriend goes to her family event then.  I'll go back to her house late and share gifts with her and the kids.

Not much driving at all, fairly simple day...  Fine by me for certain.

We used to drive to MD for Christmas.  I'd go to my parents and my hubby would go to his (we usually only had 2 days).  Now everyone lives within 30 minutes so we don't have to travel :).  We usually do a quiet  ??? Christmas at the house with the kids.  My husband's shop closes for a week at Christmas so we'll pick other days to go to the Grandparents'.  Nice and easy, finally. :)
