Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Your opinion on "Gamers"..
« on: June 1, 2003, 02:54 PM »
Call me crazy, but I personally don't think ANYONE posting to this board (or any board like it) has any room to be calling anyone a "loser".  Take a step back and realize that Trekkies, Star Wars fans, RP Gamers, Furries, Members of the 501st, Tailgaters, Hot Wheel Collectors, Comic Book guys, etc, etc, etc......they're ALL dorks, and to largely the same degree. Just about different things.

I'm not a gamer (I don't like D&D, Everquest, or any of that Magic  Card stuff) but I do see myself buying a copy of Star Wars Galaxies when it comes out. That's the same thing as Everquest, but in "our" universe.

Besides, as someone who has an entire room of his house devoted to a movie from the 70's.....I don't thinK I should be wakling around calling anyone else a loser. Especially some guy playing Everquest......because I'll probably be meeting him on "Galaxies" When I try my first MMRPG later this year.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Star Wars references in other movies?
« on: June 1, 2003, 02:48 PM »
I'll take the easy road and start with Kevin Smith movies:

Clerks:  The Death Star Conversation as well as "Chewbacca" song by supernova.

Mallrats: Silent Bob trying to use the force constantly.

Chasing Amy: The Star Wars racism speech.

Dogma:  The Muse came up with the idea for Star Wars, as well as Jay's reference to the diner being like the Cantina.

Jay and Silent Bob Strikes back: This movie is chock so full of Star Wars references (including the title) it's self explanitory.

Next:

UHF: Stanley Spudowski's mop is a lightsaber.

Can't Hardly Wait:  Two dorks playing Luke and Vader on the roof.

Swingers:  Explaining how to use that "Jedi Mind ****" on women.

Free Enterprise: It's basically a geek movie, so they have a TON of references in this one. My favorite being the scene where they go toy shopping, and some kid tells them how to say "Xixor".

I think that's enough for a first contribution.   :)

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: My Displaying Dilemma
« on: May 31, 2003, 01:27 PM »
I appealed to the members of Rebelscum a few months ago regarding this very same issue. As you know, I started collecting Simpsons stuff in the spring, and I'm about 10 or 12 items away from a complete collection right now.

The problem is.....did I invade my Star Wars room with this stuff? Or did I put it somewhere else. The bedroom is already pretty full, so the only real option is my office. That's what I decided on. Somehow, it just didn't seem right to co-mingle the toys.

Maybe toy segregation is an outdated belief, but it's what I'm sticking with for now.  :)

The Original Trilogy / Re: How does Vader know who "Luke" is?
« on: May 30, 2003, 06:50 PM »
My girlfriend had this to say:

In ANH during the trench scene.  Remember when Vader was behind him and
sensed that the force was strong with this one?  Fast forward to ESB in the
opening crawl it states that Vader has become obsessed with finding
Skywalker.

I don't remember if anything EU was said about how he found out the name of
that pilot that was strong with the force.  However I'm sure it couldn't
have been too hard.  He was, after all credited with destroying the death
star.  I'm sure he became a hero and a legend.  The empire has military
intelligence after all I'm sure it wouldn't take much digging.

Watto's Junk Yard / We need a New MS Outlook Feature
« on: May 30, 2003, 05:58 PM »
I want a new button on the toolbar of my email program:

"Kill Sender".

It would work just like "Reply", except when you click it, you get to choose from many horrible types of death on a nifty drop down menu and then click send.

The sender then receives this sort of death. I'm not sure how that part of the feature would work yet, but....I'm sure they could figure it out at Microsoft.

I see it  primarily being used as a spam filter. It's sort of a permanent way to remove yourself from a spammer's list.

It would also work for those chain letters I keep getting.

I bet they could bundle this in with the next version of MSN and make millions.

Sure, there'd probably be another trial (this time murder instead of antitrust) but I think they could find their way around that little issue.

After all, could the prosecution find a jury that would convict anyone for using my new feature?

What do you guys think?

The Original Trilogy / How does Vader know who "Luke" is?
« on: May 30, 2003, 05:42 PM »
I can't remember if this is explained somewhere in the EU, but a friend and I are talking about this, and we can't figure it out.

Vader is setting a trap on Bespin for the young Skywalker, and he must not become a Jedi and all......but they don't actually MEET until the duel at Bespin.

He sees him on the Death Star, and he recognizes that Luke has the force during the trench runs....but he never actually meets him, or hears his name as far as I know in the movieline before Bespin.

Anyone?  Is This EU stuff?

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Fighting the urge to scalp.
« on: May 30, 2003, 05:25 PM »
Yeah. I won't even buy stuff like that to "help" people by posting it on Rebelscum or wherever. All I'm doing is taking it out of the local market, and possibly, even away from a kid. If I'm not buying it for ME, or out looking for a specific thing for a specific friend, then I leave it there...no matter what the aftermarket value is.

That's just the right thing to do.

Modern Classifieds / Want to buy: 12" Plo Koon
« on: May 30, 2003, 02:26 PM »
Yes, I still need one of these. Don't care about box condition, as I'm going to open it up.

Anyone have one to sell me?  Or trade....if you'd like.

You know, I was just thinking about this topic, and I realized there is one figure I did this with.

Hoth Luke on the Taun Taun. When I saw him in the stores, I looked at the back of the box, and he was supposed to be REALLY mangled. Mine looked like he only had a slight scratch and a black eye, so I looked at some others, and found one that had been a little more "brutalized". That's the one I got.

So there you go, I guess I do it too.

I already have. They were called the Death Star Trash Compactor Playsets.

I liked them a lot.

Now, if they did these with sounds or lights or something, I'd like them even more. The Simpsons playsets are REALLY cool, and I definitely don't mind buying one to get a new exclusive figure. I think it's a good system, and Star Wars should run with it for us loose collectors and diorama guys out there. We need more backgrounds like that!

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Pics to Names!

True, true. I suppose we can go all "Sports Center" over whether or not the Mariner's are better than the Twins and all, but it would be silly because I don't really care.  :)

Besides....Even though I'm from Seattle, I'm a Giants fan by birth. That's my real team, even though I only get to read about em.

Oh yeah, they're better than the Twins this year too.  :o

You still dont' have a full on Jango Fett costume yet, do you? I've seen a few now, and they are pretty darn sweet.

As to who got banned, it was good ol' Jango Fettish. He posted a rather innapropriate edit to the Rebelscum logo after they decided to ban the trade or sale of anything non-Star Wars related over there.

His whole story is posted in the feedback section of this site as well.

This new rule Sucks for me though. I had made some good Simpsons for Star Wars trades in the Classifieds and Trading section.

Oh well....Move along, move along.

I've got a Jedi outfit, but I just got armor myself, and I highly prefer it. There's something cool about being as close to movie authentic as one can get, you know? I think I decided at Celebration 2 that I was going to get into the 501st, but it's taken me this long to finally do so.

Maybe I'll see Karma at C3 and we'll both be suited up. My girlfriend is currently working on Snowtrooper armor. It's a little trickier than Stormtrooper, because it's not as common, but I think that might be why she's doing it.
