The Vintage Collection / Re: Will your collecting habits change?
« on: September 5, 2012, 10:28 AM »
Force Guy, why do you hate The Clone Wars?  Have you seen it recently?  While there are some bummer episodes (like all TV) I think that when it's on its "A" game, it comes closer to the spirit of the OT than the prequels ever did.  It can be exciting, funny, and thoughtful.

Spirit Of Mace, I agree with what you are saying about most of it being resculpts.  I understand that and have accepted it.  However, I can think of many, many figures from the films that have not been done.  And I think that making a wave that does not have at least one never before made character is a slap in the face to the die-hards.  It creates zero excitement.

And what I don't really understand is the need to resculpt.  Lets say Hasbro wants to release an ANH wave.  Let's say they want to put out eight figures in this wave.  They already have excellent sculpts of Luke, Han, Chewie, Vader, Stormtrooper and R2.  They don't need to spend a dime on them.  Then make two new characters, such as one of the guys who is with Jabba in Docking Bay 94, and perhaps an Imperial officer with the white top.  Families and kids would buy the first six, collectors would grab the last two.  I just can't see why this sort of system couldn't work.

After SDCC, and C6, and seeing what new product Hasbro has on the horizon, I can say that for the first time since 1995, I will not be buying the next line of figures.  I just can't get behind the Droid Factory character choices, as they seem to all be resculpts.  I just can't do it anymore, as much as I'd like to make the new droids.  Granted, I may buy one ore two (I like that Pablo Jill type Jedi) but that's about it.  I'm also done with The Clone Wars line, even though I would support that with great enthusiasm if there were a wide selection of characters.  (Season 4 was a goldmine of coolness...)

That being said, I'm looking at next year, and I have decided to put some money into displays, and instead of wasting time looking for stuff, I will sort and organize what I have.  I'm really excited to do this, and this downtime seems like a great opportunity.  Maybe in the fall of 2013, when AOTC and ROTS hit the big screen again some cool product might show up, I'll jump right back in, but for now, I'm outta here!  (Not here, as in these forums, because this is still fun, but "outta here" as in I'm not buying anything anymore because I have it all and...oh, you get what I mean.)

I'm just glad that 2013 is going to be an inexpensive year for me, collecting-wise, that is.

Yeah, I won't be spending much.  I think I'll spend the money at strip clubs into displaying the stuff in a better way.

I'm curious to know if Hasbro was asked why they put the same character in two lines at once.  While I understand the price difference, I can't imagine there's that much demand for a even character like Obi-Wan.

With the lack of anything interesting coming out of C6, I have to say that I now consider this the lowest point this hobby has reached since 1995.  Spring of 2003, when there were no figures for 6 months was close, but, to me, this is the lowest low.

Clone Wars seems dead, and we may never see many of the cool crazy designs from the later seasons.  I'm just not buying anymore resculpts.

Vehicles, aside from the Naboo Fighter, to me, are dead as well.  I'm not buying smaller, less accurate sculpts.  (I do think these look like good toys, and kids will like them.)

As far as figures, I no longer collect one of each, and now that they are so hard to come by I've lost track of what's even out there.  There seems to be a few nice figures in the first Droid Factory wave, and maybe 1 in wave 2, so I'm not buying them for the droids.  I just can't make it financially justifiable in my head.

Anyone who knows me knows that I love this stuff, and for many years lived and breathed it.  But now, I don't know...there is literally nothing to get excited about.

Does anyone actually know Steve?  I remember years and years ago when people were just positive that it was Sansweet in disguise.

Anyway, about the Vintage figures showing up in discount stores...I gotta say it, but Hasbro deserves to have a sucky financial year.  Their cases are terrible, and we all see that immediately, so I can't figure out why they can't.

The product they make is amazing, it really is.  (Did you see the Dark Knight figures?  Holy sh*t they are garbage.)  But Hasbro's inability to learn from previous mistakes is just so frustrating.

This is such a dismal thread...but if you do get the chance, just ask this...

"Where the f*ck are the toys and why can't I buy 'em?"

Oh.  Can we suggest questions?  Or is it too late?

Not much to say here, but it's been a while that I've had the opportunity to open a thread.  Are we really expecting to see much at C6?  San Diego was such a bust that I hope something interesting materializes.  Also, Is Hasbro doing a Q&A, or just displaying product?

I bought a pile from Amazon as well.  I don't want to miss those OT guys.  I'm curious if this will actually ship, or will it be one of these things where Amazon never gets the figs.  My delivery date is Dec 5.  Maybe I'll wrap them up and give them to myself for Xmas.

Finally, again, a few figures were offered to me by the gods of Target.  I found the "Real" Clone Wars style Ani, and the two Jedi with light up sabers.  Finally.  These thing shipped in January.  Unreal, Hasbro.

Mine showed up as well today.  I was very impressed by the cardboard insert that filled up the "negative" space.  Very well done.

The Vintage Collection / Re: Smaller Vehicle/Beast/Other Items

I've been saying this for years, but there are three small speeders form Mos Eisley...I can't think of proper names now...one is the round bubble with circular windows, the spidery looking one, and the blue one at the speeder shop...that would make great small vehicles.  Pack them in with new cantina aliens and I would be very happy.

The bomb countdown didn't bother me at all.  They way I see it is that many things are happening during that 90 seconds.  All the events are taking place at the same time, therefore time, in cinematic terms, is extended.  It's one of the most amazing things about films.
