Title: Lego 2008
Post by: Danbtherockstar on June 16, 2007, 01:17 AM
I used to be a Seasonal Lego Merchandiser and i've remained in contact with the Full Timer that is in the area I used to work in... Aparently there is a survery of sorts that Lego is doing now that involves folks getting a look at and giving their opinion for some of packaging for the upcomming products for 2008. They've sent packages of boxes to the Merch's in many major cities. Some of the test boxes they've sent are for some of the new Star Wars products.

There is a Anakins Jedi Starfighter with a Clone Wars Logo.
A Stormtrooper Dropship with a Force Unleashed Logo
and A At-PT "Pod Walker" with Clone Wars Logo

also there are some other lines that are getting some interesting new looks and a new License that I for one am extremely excited about seeing in Lego form....

**Edit**

And now after seeing the packaging in person I can reveal a bit more:
The AT-PT comes with 2 clones and looks very very good

The Stormtrooper dropship is not affiliated with any particular event however it does have a large logo that does say "build your armies" and comes with 2 Stormies and a Tie Pilot

The Anakin Starship from Clone wars is Grey and Yellow (very Similar to Saesee's Starfighter)

The Set from the Force Unleashed is The Rogue Shadow (I believe) it is Vader's Apprentices ship apperantly and comes with Vader's Apprentice, A very hacked up Vader and the Female Imperial Officer (who's name escapes me right now)

Sorry I can't give picks but all this is very very hush hush and I'm sure I'm breaking some confidetiality things by telling this much! But 2008 is gonna be a great year for legos!!!

Just a note for anyone who might have missed it. Lego has the Lic. for the new Indiana Jones movie! I can't imagine how much money I will need to save for these sets. What if they go back and release sets from each of the 3 previous films also. A Sean Connery mini-figure! The possibilities are endless.

Actually in the batch of Lego boxes that are part of the Survey are 4 of the Indiana Jones sets. and actually NONE of them are for the new movie. 3 of them are from Raiders of the Lost arc. A large set depicting the temple with the Golden Monkey head that comes Jock and a Biplane.  The Second is the Map Room which they call the "Snake pit", third is the Treasure Pursuit (Indy pusuing the Truck w/ the Arc), and the 4th set is from Last Crusade. it's called Motercycle Pursuit and it's Indy and his father (yes a Sean Connery Mini-fig) plus 2 Nazi Motercycles. I can only hope we see a good couple Temple of Doom sets with a lego Short Round

Thanks a lot for the update! I'm glad to see Lego hasn't given up on the Franchise stuff. I know it's not their core type stuff but I really enjoy the specific sets...SpongeBob, Batman, Star Wars. Wish they had gotten TMNT

yeah nice to see them expanding. glad to see everybody didn't go in with Mega Blocks when they were buying up licenses left and right.

Also this gives hope of a Lego Indiana jones game!

woo hoo!

Rebel Trooper helmets! Cheap Stormie troop transport! Force Unleashed!

Those look great. I'll definitely have to get that Imperial Transport.

Just a heads-up to the Lego collectors that I spotted both the AT-AP (40 dollars) and TFU Rogue Shadow (50 dollars) system sets at Toys R Us earlier this morning.  There were no shelf tags for them (I had to scan them to find the prices), and there were no shelf tags for nor sign of the other 2008 sets.

I found everything at a TRU yesterday except for the imperial troop builder set.  They only had two of the rebel set, so I figured someone had probably snapped them all up.  Also, there was only one of the Anakin starfighter.  I guess that was my Christmas present to myself.

Hmm.  A re-release of the LEGO AT-TE...Wasn't that $99 when it first came out?

My cousin and her family picked up a set of 4 lego pens (Vader, Chewie, R2, and Yoda) at Costco and gave them to me this weekend when they came over. These pens are really fun. I opened the package up, gave Yoda to my wife, and brought Vader into the office this morning.

THe Homing Spider droid set will be a nice companion set to the Hailfire droid set. I'm definitely getting one.

The droid gunship is VERY cool. Not sure if I'l get it or not, but it's well made.

I'll pass on the "Twilight."

The tank!!! freakin' A, that's sweet (if a little stubby). I've been wanting one of these in the Hasbro line. Looks like I'll fill my need with the LEGO version until/if ever Hasbro decides to make this.

I've cut way down on LEGO stuff, but am happy to buy some of these newer offerings. LEGO continues to shine and produce the sets we want.

KUDOS!!!

Since we had a few months off on Star Wars toys, they really made us pay for it this past weekend.  I just picked up all the clone wars Legos yesterday.  Bit of a sticker shock when you pick up everything due to the amount of larger sets.

I didn't like the fact that you only get two clones (and 3 jedi) in the republic gunship, I mean we're paying $120 couldn't they have given us at least one more clone?

Also, they did the same thing with the At-te.

I've read this on another Lego board and the concensus is it will be a Black Friday sale item for around the $50.00 mark. Target usually has several large Lego sets in their BF ad. Last year was a large castle at 1/2 price. Just a guess right now!

I'm going back and forth on this.  The V-19 Torrent and the Target exclusive Fighter Tank are close to the same price, I'm just not sure which to get.  I'm thinking the fighter tank, because its an exclusive, meaning the V-19 should be easier to find down the road.  I'm thinking I only can get one right now.  Thoughts?
Title: Re: Lego 2008

Both are great looking sets, so tough call.  Not sure how abundant your Targets are, but the Tie Crawler got marked down to $15 around my parts of my neighborhood so I'm waiting it out again in hopes of another nice price on the tank.  I've never paid full price for any LEGO set, but I believe the Torrent is/was on sale for $49 at Target.  Still to pricey for my blood though.
Title: Re: Lego 2008
Post by: Keonobi on November 17, 2008, 03:55 PM
There are four within about 40 minutes of where I live, only two of which I go to with any frequency, but I don't often catch larger items like that on sale, I just am not there often enough.

BJ's (its a wholesale club like Costco or Sam's) has the V-19 for $46 or so, and I think I had seen the fighter tank at target for the $49 you mentioned iFett.  My out of state sister sent me $50 for my birthday with the stipulation that I had to spend it on something for me, that's the only reason I think I'll be able to get one right now.  Other stuff will have to wait until after the holidays.  I think I am leaning towards the fighter tank.

That Star Destroyer was a really fun build + it had plenty of mini figs and kid friendly features to it.  I'm guessing that Target's previous years' $49.99 is now the new $59.99 (LEGO) - $62.99 (UBPs).  Kinda sucks, but still a good deal IMO.

Wow, I better take a peek at the local ones, though I think we only have the "Special" stores here, not the "select" ones.

Update:

Yup, I'm definitely in the "special" area, not "select".  I stopped at 2 Walmarts and neither had the Gunship @ $35.  I'll be checking a couple others over the weekend, but I think that deal will be hit and miss; emphasis on the miss....

I'm not totally familiar with all of the LEGO releases, so if this isn't a 2008 set I'm sorry if I posted this in the wrong topic.  Anyways, I've started to become more interested in LEGO again lately - and probably against my better judgement, I'm considering picking up this set (http://shop.lego.com/Product/?p=6212), which is the X-Wing fighter set (6212).  I see it is selling for $50 at LEGO's shop.  First off, is that a decent price - and secondly, is this a decent set?  I've always been somewhat interested in LEGO, but have stayed away due to price/space limitations.  I've recently thought about getting a few sets to try out, and sticking to OT themed ones.  Ideally, I'd like to get a Falcon, but that's a bit pricier and it isn't really "in circulation" right now.  Anyways, the second one I thought about was this X-Wing set.  Its another iconic (and favorite) ship from the OT, and it appears to come with some nice minifigs (for someone like me that doesn't really have many) in Luke, Han, Chewie, R2, and Leia.  Anyways, I was just curious if anyone had some advice or opinions on this set.  I may just end up staying away totally (which might be smarter), but I was just considering testing the LEGO waters a bit.

I would have to look up the set itself to see which one it is, but the price is the same as I paid at retail whenever it was released according to my spreadsheet.

Brian - I don't have that set but TRU is charging $59.99 (http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2305552) for the same set at there stores (even though it's sold out online - but I could swear I saw it for $49.99)  I've never paid full price for any LEGO sets outside of the $10 army builder sets.  With that said, I'm holding out for a sale somewhere or I'll probably just forget about this one.  I think I've said it before, but my advice is to stay away especially if you're on a budget and trying to cut back.

...just my 2 cents   :)

Brian this is pretty much a reissue set of the previous X-Wing sets.  It is a nice set, the only difference is that they included a different set of minifigures, Hoth theme this time.  This set is exclusive to TRU which is also being sold at the Lego stores.  My advice is if you want this set, now is the time to buy it at the Lego store.  I don't think this one around all that much longer and once it gets retired you can expect to pay about 20% more on Ebay overnight.  As iFett stated Lego is like crack so buyer beware.

Here is a review of the set from Eurobricks.

Now I remeber this set...it does have a small advantage over the previous X-wing:  you can change the bricks on the wings so that it can either be Luke or Wedge's X-wing.

I think that is excellent advice, and its one of those situations where I should know better and just stay away.  I likely don't have the room to display them anyways, but I've always sort of been interested in LEGO and thought I might pick up a set or two to tinker around with.  I'm still on the fence with this one, but I might wait and see what comes of that rumored "Midi scale" Falcon that I read about at FBTB.net.  I've always wanted a Falcon, and it sounds like this might be a more affordable/displayable version.

Otherwise, I'm also thinking about just sticking to attempting to pick up the other Original Trilogy MINI sets.  I grabbed a Falcon back when it was released, and really liked it.  Sure, they are simple to assemble, but kind of fun and easy to display.  I also always wanted to get a small lineup of the main character minifigs from the OT (Han/Luke/Leia/Chewie/Vader/R2/3PO/etc.), but I realize those can also get pricey depending on rarity.  I might go that route instead for now, unless I find a deal on something.  The LEGO stuff just looks so neat, and I think it would be fun, but for someone like me I'd likely have to collect just that to have the money/space for it.  Thanks for the info guys.

Hi! Just to throw in my 2 cents...Legos are awesome! Buy the X-wing, you will love it. For someone who enjoys collecting as much as you do...you deserve it and will not regret it. Lego's hold their value better than anything I have ever collected. Save the box, instructions and inserts and you can get your money back anytime. Sorry to be an enabler but they just are soooo much fun!

Random rave:  kudos to whomever designed/ wrote instructions for the newer battle packs.

We've been picking up the $9.99 "battle packs" that have been out for the last 1-2 years (going back to the 30th anniversery packaging).  These are the ones that come with like 5 troopers and a mini-rig type custom design.  We'd been building them with my oldest (he just had his 5th birthday), but he had always needed a fair amount of help...

Not so with the newer 8015 pack (IG-Assassin droids).  The improvements are subtle, but very clever and very significant:  fewer peices added per step, distinctive colors for the hidden, interior peices (obvious which peices are new in each step, easy to find from the pile), and there's even one step where a single-stud peice is added just to keep the correct spacing of other pieces obvious.  It's not a simpler design, it's just designed with instruction-clarity in mind.

It all made a BIG difference (plus, I guess he's older now), and he was actually able to put the thing together unsupervised!  Great experience.

Found the Republic Tank at Target this morning at NCF $49.99.  Freak sighting?  I missed that three week window at Christmas so I was happy to pick this sucker up.

Not a freak sighting, Lego did another batch.  They should also be hitting the Lego stores.  I found six at a local Target in my area.

I didn't get it last year so maybe now I will.  :)

Just cracked open "Indiana Jones - Race for the Stolen Treasure", set 7622, that I've had in mothballs since I bought it in 2008.

This has got to be one of the best sets I've ever put together (actually my six year old put it together).  Cool pieces.  Really cool cargo truck canopy.  Super set for $30 (five years ago).

I've been busting open a bunch of older sets now that my son is old enough to build them.  Some have aged poorly, but this one is really cool.

Although I did have a little "openers remorse" when I looked it up on eBay and saw one sold for $80 the other day.

I've got a few other Indiana Jones sets stored away that I'm tempted to crack open tonight and see if they're as cool as this one.

I bet it was worth more than $80 to share the experience with your son.  ;)
