Ugh... good luck tracking down all 16 of these little buggers. ::)
For those unfamiliar with the Pepsi Nex promo be@rbricks, they are free promo items included when you purchase a 500mL bottle of Pepsi Nex in Japan. Over in the "other Kubricks" thread, evilalive has a nice pic of the last promo series, Pepsi Nex x Fox (http://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=13363.msg365359#msg365359), which was based on some fox movies/shows.
These be@rs are usually 65-70% the size of the regular be@rs and they often have the clip screwed into their heads (as seen in the pic). From what I have gathered so far, these will be included with Pepi Nex bottles sold at Celebration Japan and there will be 16 different be@rs:
- Boba Fett
- C-3PO
- Chewbacca
- Clone Trooper (Ep2)
- Clone Trooper (Ep3)
- Darth Vader
- Darth Maul
- Jango Fett
- R2-D2
- Stormtrooper
- TIE Fighter Pilot
- Jawa
- Wicket
- Yoda
- Imperial Logo
- Rebel Logo
As if I didn't already have enough stuff to waste money on this summer... ::)
-
Ha!
Those look great!
CB
-
Those look pretty cool but I think I'm going to pass on trying to get them. I've been avoiding the be@rs as best as possible and this could put me over the top.
The only one I'd probably be interested in getting is the Yoda - just because of my Yoda collection focus.
-
Are they going to be blind packed (I confess, I didn't click the link) as many of the other Pepsi promos have been in past? With the bottle toppers, they were in a small 'envelope' attached to the bottle with a regular cap and you couldn't see the piece you were getting. And it doesn't look like you'll be able to tell by touch either, they're pretty similar but for the paint apps. Nasty stuff.
I don't think I'll be going for these.
-
Great, another thing I'm going to need to track down... The ones they have shown look great. Can't wait to see the others!
-
Are they going to be blind packed (I confess, I didn't click the link) as many of the other Pepsi promos have been in past?
Unknown... sometimes the Pepsi stuff is blind, sometimes not. I'd guess blind though because that seems to be the theme with SW promos there.
-
Pretty neat. Even though I don't do the be@r stuff, I'd like to get the Yoda one. I bet he's cute with those little nubby bear ears :P
-
I might try to track one or two down but not all of them. I have enough on my plate with the SW Kubricks! ;D
-
Previous Pepsi Nex figures aren't terribly expensive (set of 12 for $37 shipped (http://cgi.ebay.com/Medicom-Pepsi-NEX-Fox-70-Bearbrick-12-pieces-Alien-Ape_W0QQitemZ200229155298QQihZ010QQcategoryZ36553QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247) on eBay at the moment), but with this new set being "Star Wars" themed and not "random FOX movie/show" themed, I can see the SW set of 16 selling for 2-3 times more. :-\
If they end up affordable ($3-5 each), I'll most likely try to grab a set since I've already entered the Be@r market with the Ewoks and a few others... ::)
-
... the Be@r market ...
Tee-hee.
-
Dang, I really like these, but it could be a nightmare getting them all. At the very least I'd need Vader. 8)
-
::) More stuff to buy.
-
These I won't be getting into, they are nice tho. Kinda like the key chain thingys I got awhile back.
-
I didnt even realize they were keychains, that makes it much much easier to pass on them. ;D
-
Boba from Slave1.jp was kind enough to send me a pic that shows off all 16 pieces. :)
It looks like the Ep3 Clone trooper is a 501st Trooper... and man is the R2-D2 odd looking.
-
Aw, look at the cute widdle Yoda :-*
-
More cool stuff I won't be able to get. Oh well, really just kind of like Fett and the Stormie anyway. ;D
How do they give these out? Are they attached to the bottles?
-
How do they give these out? Are they attached to the bottles?
Yes, and I think you can see which one you're going to get before you buy, which is nice. Are these the same as normal Be@rbricks in terms of quality and so forth?
-
If they are like the previous Pepsi Nex promo be@rs they have done, then yes - the figures are the same in terms of quality, but the promo ones are usually 65-70% the size of the standard be@rs (in other words 30% smaller than a normal be@r).
-

Do you have any information to indicate they are not blind packaged?
-
Do you have any information to indicate they are not blind packaged?
Well, it sure looks like the one in the plastic attached to the bottle in the second picture posted above is Vader.
-
Those are kind of neat. I like the one with just the Imperial logo on it.
E...
-
Has anyone been able to determine if these will only be available at Celebration Japan or will the pepsi promotion be extended to the entire country?

Ah. Picture no load for me last night, now I see.

First set I've seen on ebay for these:
Pepsi Nex Full Set of 16 (http://cgi.ebay.com/MEDICOM-TOY-PEPSI-STARWARS-BE-RBRICK-70-FULL-SET_W0QQitemZ140241724467QQihZ004QQcategoryZ36553QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)
-
With shipping that works out to $4.49 each, not too bad I guess.
-
If they were not key chains i would consider it.
-

I thought the same thing. I was kind of hoping for around $3.00-$3.50 each. But considering that this is the first auction I've seen, I'm still thinking that the prices may come down on these.

Hey Doc, nice purchase!
I couldn't help myself.
I'm only keeping a few of them, going give a few to friends and sell some as well.
I really wanted the Stormie.

BBTS has these up for preorder for $59.99.

So... who's going to gamble?
If anyone does take the gamble on the pre-order, I hope it turns out better then the last time they put up a pre-order like this (2007 Collector Box Set) or the AHQ Blue Stars and Maul Speeder some of you are still waiting for... :-\
-
So... who's going to gamble?
I think I might gamble on these. Worst case, I go to ebay which is where I'd end up anyway...
-
Nope, not going to get these. Nice as there are, it's not my collecting bag.
-
Here's Yoda shown with the Pepsi bottle at the Medicom Toy Exhibition.

Here's a very clear shot of these from today's Medicom update:

Would still like to get these eventually...

Oh man! I want that 501st clone one bad. Can anyone tell me the easiest way to go about getting one of these without having to spend a fortune?
-
So it just occured to me, none of those images show key chains on these. Were these "confirmed" to be key chains or did we just speculate on that based on the last Pepsi Nex promo?
-
So... who's going to gamble?
I decided to gamble on these and pre-ordered a set today. It's really not that bad of a price if they do end up coming through. We'll see. They are supposed to be in stock next month...

If you only want one, I would wait until the individual ones start showing up on ebay. The Fox promotional ones that were out recently were sold individually after a while.

Based on this photo, I assumed they were keychains. The latest photo from Medicom doesn't show the rings...

I had a feeling that would be the case. Problem is, on eBay things like this tend to go for crazy amounts (unless I'm missing the good auctions ???).
-
Yeah, I'm pretty sure they're going to be keychains, which turns me off, personally. It's stupid to put keychains on things like this, although not as stupid as the Blister-exclusive Alien vs. Predator snap kits I have (basically 4" scale Alien and Predator figures that were sold with a keychain part you could attach). Not only are they huge for keychains (unless you want to make a "bathroom key" or something) they were also very very fragile, so there's no way you could actually use it as a keychain. I guess making them keychains (or, knowing Japan, more like cell phone or bag charms) makes them more appealing to the general public than if they were just little figures.

You know, it didn't cross my mind until now, but considering they have the Clone Trooper Commander in 70% Be@rbrick form and we are getting that same figure as a chase in Series 9, does anyone else think that we might be getting a 501st Clone as a chase in Series 10?
-
501st or Shocktrooper as a chase figure for sure ...
Nah, I don't think anyone is agreeing with that idea.
-
I know that was one of your original guesses as a chase, I was just saying that since there was a link between this set and the Series 9 chase, do you think that puts more behind the possibility that a 501st could be coming in Series 10... I think a 501st or a Shocktrooper is a logical choice as a common chase since the Clone Trooper will more than likely be a 4:12 figure for Series 10 as well.
-
If there's a common chase. N still equals 1, doesn't it? No idea what or where medicom is going with stuff and they've never been particularly predicatable. I still think they could do a clone flavors box set pretty easily and slap a 501st, Shock, Gree, Cody, Neyo in it without missing a beat. So while I think 501st/shock have a shot that's better than average, I never count on anything from Medicom, they're too wacky.

I was browsing at BBTS and saw that the preorder for these had already sold out, which of course made me panic even though I wasn't even sure I wanted them. So I checked ebay and found a "buy it now" for $48 (and $12) shipping. Plus I used the live.com 20% discount deal (google it if you want to know more) to make the final price $38.40 + shipping. I couldn't resist at that price.
Those images posted earlier look quite nice, I must say.

Instinctoy's Blog (http://instinctoy.blog73.fc2.com/blog-entry-483.html#more) has several photos (front, back & sides) posted of these for those wanting to see more details.

Mine have already shipped. That was quicker than I expected.

And now they're here! I saw some duplicates in the package so I was afraid that maybe the seller had given me a random selection instead of a full set, but it turned out that they gave me 20 instead of 16, so there were 4 duplicates (1 stormtrooper, 1 yoda, 1 imperial logo, and 1 boba fett). I'm keeping the stormtrooper so I can have one on either side of Vader, but I'd be interested in selling or trading the others if anyone is interested.
I have them displayed on my "brick wall" that I recently finished. I'll post some pictures of the whole thing once I get my desk cleaned up enough to make it presentable.
Anyway, they're quite nice. They'd be perfect if they were full size and didn't have the keychains, but even so they're very well done, I think.

Anyone looking to unload Ewok ones, LMK.
thanks

Those do look nice. Can you snap a picture next to a regular Kubrick or Bear for the size comparison?

Here you go.

Aaah, they are so teeny weeny cute :)

I actually like them more now that I know how relatively small they are. I might have to pick these up at some point.

Can you elaborate more on what we are to look for? ???
I'm guessing a different color plastic used for the arms, legs & torso. The left one looks grey & the right one looks off white (creamy).
-
Yeah looks more like poor quality control...not a shock since they come with bottles of Pepsi.
-
Both of mine appear to be identical. Not that I care that much one way or the other.
-
I've got a set of these coming in the mail! 8) I'm curious to see if the keychain part can be unscrewed from the head without damaging them...

On clearance at BBTS

Not sure if everyone was aware of these or not, but there was another Be@rbrick promo that was run with the release of TPM in 3D. The sponsor was Suntory and this time there were only 8 figures. I think 3 of these are re-releases (Yoda, R2-D2, Darth Vader), but it appears as though the Yoda doesn't have the leg detail that the previous release had. Anyway, just thought I'd post this in case there are more completists out there that couldn't get enough 70% Be@rbrick SW figures!
-
To anyone who collects these and wants something to store them in, I have this spare storage box made specially for them. Drop me a pm if you're interested. :)
