Well, if you want to be truely nerdy about it, then you could put on TWO left arms,
or two right arms, or two right arms with different guns, or two right arms
with the same gun, or the 'battle-damaged' clones (with amputated hand), or
amputated left arm, or amputated right-arm ...  all for a whopping...(whips out calculator)  ..  74,792,484,394,001 godzillion different variations (not even
taking into account black-vs-white)  ;)

p.s. in Spy-vs-Spy, the WHITE spy won more often. ;)

Gentle Giant / Re: Bust Ups!
« on: January 28, 2005, 09:38 AM »
Technically, there *are* eighteen (18) different bust arrangements.
-- 3 different left-arm positions (High, Low, in Belt) [H,L,B]
-- 3 different right-arm positions (pointing gun UP, pointing gun level Chest-high,
and pointing gun level Waist-high) [U,C,W]
-- 2 different guns (Short blaster or blaster-Rifle) [S,R]
----------------------
3x3x2=18.  However, a few of those pairings look goofy together.  No one
would really display the following pairings. (i think)

[HUS] (left-arm High, right-arm UP, Short gun)
[HUR]
[LUS]  (left-arm Low, right-arm UP, Short gun)
[LUR]
[HLS] (left-arm supporting High, but right-arm shooting Low, Short gun)
[HLR]
[LHS] (left-arm supporting Low, but right-arm shooting High, Short gun)
[LHR]

So, take away 8 combos.   youd only need 10 torsos to display all the good
looking poses.

Excellent set of pics, Bob.  ;D ;D ;D  "Impressive... Most Impressive..."

I had no problem getting to the album.  The first pic I expanded was lil
bobby ripping open his Millenium Falcon, Christmas '79.  haha.  I also
see you got a case of Miller High-Life that christmas too.  Jeez, your
parents were progressive..  ;)

Excellent pics.

Wow, that's a pretty sweet score there!  Congrats!  Always great to strike "collecting gold" outta the blue like that (figuratively, and in this case literally).  Those unexpected collecting moments of pure joy are what make it all worth it, especially all the hunting.

What makes the situation *TOTALLY* ironic, is that the suncoast (here in
Pittsburgh) where I found it, is maybe 50 yards away from where the
Pittsburgh Comic and Collectible Toy Show was going on Saturday and Sunday.

(See JesseJames' coverstory).

The gal at suncoast said those had been on the shelf since late Saturday, and the
show went on ALL of saturday and sunday.  I almost CANNOT believe no one
from the show wandered from the expomart over to the mall next-door.
(there was a guy at the show selling *all* the normal minis for $30 ea. so that
might be why everyone felt satisfied)

In fact, as I was at lunch with JesseJames (+++) on Saturday, I told him that I had
just checked this store right before I went over, (1pm), and nothing new was
out yet.

-BH

(+++) JJ made at least THREE (3) totally-shameless plugs for JediDefender
as he was downing his 'brewhaus-sampler' over lunch. ;D

[EDIT - added]
p.s. , anyone still needing SITH display cases might find some over at...

Hey everyone.

Dont want to brag or anything, but Santa put something extra pretty
into my Christmas stocking early.   I was out last night, and found
a golden Dooku sitting pretty right there on the shelf at my local Suncoast.
Im gonna keep it in the dark until Christmas eve, and put it into Dad's (my)
stocking.  My son (who's getting a Vader mini in his) will be excited also.

This makes my 3rd goldie.  I got the golden Obi AFB via PSWCS bud Jack, and
the golden Cloney-Wan via another PSWCS bud, Tronz.   Yesterday's score
was my first lucky break with the minis.  Frankly, Id been to store after store,
asking if ANYONE had ever seen a golden mini actually get PUT onto a shelf.
A coupla guys had confessed that they had, but employees scooped them up;
and they never actually hit a shelf for a lowly collector to buy (for the std $35
price).   So this post serves to restore everyone's hope, that sometimes these
*do* slip through, and can be found.   Too bad the odds are maybe 3720:1. :-\

Happy hunting.

FYI - there is a new ebay auction for the case plus sabers
with BIN.   I wont post the auction no, cuz I dont know the
rules about promoting auctions (and I am *not* affiliated
with whoever is running this auction, btw).

You can find it if you search for "jedi mini case"

I only mention it in case any readers are interested.

-Dave

p.s.  too rich for my blood.  I already got all the jedi minis
individually.

I dont mean to offend you but, damn thats too much work ;)  Just wanted some basic ramblings from everyone.  This is just for fun and not a science project ;)  Welcome aboard the forums :)

Yeah, it took a while to type up the first time, but ive got it
filed now.

I *am* still trying to think of different categorizations of
variations that have ever arisen.

Thanks for the welcome.  ;D  Im buds with JJ.  He woke
me to your site.  We been in PSWCS for a long time..

As far as other kinds of 'variation hunters' , of course there
are the 'themed' hunters, who step-up their variation
ambitions for, lets say, only one persona in the saga.
(i,e, they might want *every* conceivable BOSSK variation
ever made, for instance).

Im pretty completist (carded) myself.  I go for "INTENTIONAL"
differences, but not tape/inner-bubble/rubber-band differences  -- changes to the toy, and how Hasbro might
'change' how a figure looks (presumably to help it sell better).
I know it drives a lot of other collectors crazy, but I was
especially thrilled with the whole Bespin Luke evolutionary
thing. (bloody/burnt/flesh -- magnet arm/hand/none -- etc)

Some changes are just too minor for me to get excited about
(mole/nomole Padme for example)

My other fetish is non-common errors (wrong insert type of things)

Im in the same boat, HoloElvis.  I bought TWO of the
SITH display cases, but Ill end up putting my extra
CC-Obi, GoldenObi, and Obi-weathered in it.  But Id rather
have had a case for them with "JEDI" on it, and not "SITH".

(In fact, if anyone wants to just TRADE my extra SITH case for your JEDI case, Ill pay for the all the shipping costs both ways...)

One more thing... when I put my SITH cases side-by-side,
I notice that the plastic cover has a 'front' and a 'back'.
If they're on opposite as each other, then theyre not level
front and back with each other. (backside is a smidge higher
is what Im saying -- but its not noticable unless you have
another one next to it)

Hmm, since this thread seems to have cooled down a bit, I
thought Id post a blurb I once posted over on POTF2. About
what kinds of variations are most interesting/desireable.

Note that this list is kinda tailored for CARDED collectors, and
not loose toys like REBELTRADER first posted about, but I
thought it would still provide some food for thought...

Basically, I want you to 'score' what kinds of variations you find
most desireable/interesting/valuable...  Put a "NA" for
classifications of variations you do not care about in any way... and
otherwise, a  single-digit score of 1-9 (where 1 means you only care "
MOST MINIMALLY" and a 9 means "MOST IMPORTANT"....If you do put a
value on any of the major categories, then please delve down into a
breakout of that category to highlight which kinds of those variations
you value most.

basically fill in every "[ ]" box with a "[na]" or "
  • " thru

"[9]"..  and fill-in a "[T/F]" box with "[-True-]" or "[-False-]".

This might help us to be able to categorize different kinds of
checklists.

If you can find any examples of variations that do not fall into
a category below, reply, and we'll try to find a way to fit it
in.  Also, if you can break apart a sub-category into significant
sub-sub-categories, ill do that too.  Whatever you think is most
informative.

Also, if you can help me out, wherever I have a "?" listed as an
example fig,  if you know of one that fits the categorization, please
reply, and Ill edit-it back into the original post.

Section 2) "How do you consider MULTIPLE variations for a fig"

How 'completist' are you?

...MAXIMALLY Completist, or MINIMALLY Completist?

A) [T/F]  - MAXIMALLY
........... If more-than-one kind of variation exists for a particular
........... figure, then I try to get EVERY conceivable combination
........... {i.e. the full-factorial set (whenever possible (+))}

........... For example, if HanHoth came out with blue/brown coats, on
........... two different cards (blue/gold-stripe), then Im looking
........... for FOUR figures for my collection...

....................BlueHan  on BlueCard
....................BrownHan on BlueCard (+)
....................BlueHan  on GoldStripeCard
....................BrownHan on GoldStripeCard

B) [T/F] - MINIMALLY
...........If more-than-one kind of variation exists for a single-
...........figure, then I try to get AT LEAST ONE EXAMPLE of each type
...........of variation

....................BlueHan  on BlueCard
....................BrownHan on GoldStripeCard

........... (In this example, you only need TWO figures for your
........... collection because you have at least one blue coat, at
........... least one browncoat, at least one bluecard, at least
........... one goldcard).

-------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------
Section 3) "How does 'rarity' impact your need to be completist?"

A) [T/F] - MAXIMALLY - Ill get multiples of a rare or HTF item if I can
.......................find them. (for whatever reason)

B) [T/F] - MINIMALLY - Once a checkbox is checked, If I find the same
.......................HTF fig on a peg another time, Ill leave it.

Hey everyone,
I figured I had to chime in on this forum.  Im into the minis
too, and I just got and opened my Darth mini today.

AWESOME !

Its a little tricky to fit onto the support properly.  I think
the little 'box' on the side of the hilt has to face downward
based on the support tabs.  It looks good.   ;)

I, too, am waiting for the 'weathered'-wan mini.  Does
anyone have an idea when they're supposed to hit?

Original Trilogy Collection / Re: VOTC/OTC Purchases

... I think I'll be cracking it open before too long.

About the Slave 1 set, you might wanna eyeball the
tape jobs on the box before you make a decision.
The 'QuestionMark' over on Scum is reporting that some
boxes are showing evidence of a tape-cut and tape-over
on these pups.  They report that Target went in and
nipped out Boba's firing missle on some (all?) boxes.

just thouight you outta know before you made your
attack run.
