The Legacy Collection / Re: TRU Legacy Collection TIE Interceptor
« on: October 1, 2009, 03:30 AM »
Just found one tonight-- it's really impressive.  The wings are the same old.  The body is totally redone-- you'll notice the screw holes are gone.  While the center pod looks similar to the old one, even the ejector buttons have been retooled.  It's basically a whole new middle, and extremely impressive with all the detail  you could hope for in a TIE Interceptor interior. The ejector seat has painted red light elements on it and a clip "seat belt," so it's really cool.  It's a crying shame they stopped short of making it a legitimate toy, with the ability to, you know, eject.  At $50 it's obviously meant to be a toy collectible, which makes me wonder why they don't just go the extra mile and drop the ejecting wings too.

...it is worth noting that this is simply the most gorgeous TIE Interceptor toy I've ever had the pleasure of owning, and I own many.

Neat, but the $50 price tag feels like we're paying an aftermarket price for a brand-new toy.  ROTJ vintage ones are as little as $40 with a box.  POTJ ones are around the same and can be had as low as $30.  The TAC "Elite" model is $30-$35.  $50 for the new one is a sign that we're absolutely able to expect the price to drop unless Hasbro dropped the run size on these significantly.  If all you want is a 3 3/4-inch TIE Interceptor, the collector market shockingly has cheaper options to offer.  Assuming you can deal with the stigma of a slightly older toy.

Don't think I'm not tempted, but my darling wife (She Who Must be Obeyed) might have an apoplexy if she finds out I am wasting money on magic beans toys. When I am about to be unemployed in 6 weeks.

I found a really good workaround for this.  I've tried it once or twice.
Her: "Is this new?"
Me: "No."

FOOLPROOF!  And true in some cases, at least in terms of percentage on some of those Battle Packs...

Dang, EE has Dooku w/Speeder Bike in stock NOW! Hot off the truck as of 9/29...can we expect this to show up at brick and mortar stores any day?

Who will snag it first? TRU? Target? Walmart? Kmart?

Release the hounds!

Or you could, y'know, order it from us now what with our low price guarantee and everything... just sayin'.

I haven't bought a single "deluxe" figure set yet, though that may change with TRU sale this week. Add some Clone Cash and the price is actually where it should be. I also think aside from the price point nothing has excited me by far with this line.

I have to say I really dig the Freeco Bike a lot-- I was looking forward to this one.  It doesn't do much other than seat one figure and have retractable landing skids, but it's actually a pretty good size.  Definitely larger than a number of vintage-era Mini-Rigs.  Opening the canopy is something of a pain, as it sort of snaps in place and slides forward, but it feels like it could be a companion piece to the MLC-3.  Totally cool, plus the SA Kenobi it comes with is a nice plus.

...and it's really a bit of a bummer that the fairly large Freeco Bike is going to cost the same as the smaller and overall less awesome Sport Skiff.  (And I liked it as a $10 POTF2 toy.)  I'm sure they'll all do well-- throw in Anakin with anything for $16 or so and I'm sure we have a hit on our hands.

Oh, and I'd also suggest picking up any of the Clone Two-Packs in this range.  Not only are they great figures, but Hasbro packs in lots of extra blasters too.  Dollar-for-dollar, they aren't as good a value as a Battle Pack, but 2 Clones and a bunch of gear for $13-$17 is pretty good given the $8-$8.50 price tags for a single figure.

I haven't looked closely at the dome versus previous domes yet...

Do you usually make it a habit to study & compare different domes?

That depends. Would it be more or less disturbing if my answer was yes?

The droids are really nice for being repainted existing astromechs:

To pick a nit, R3-M3's torso is retooled around the... er... neck?  Brains?  Whatever the little bits and pieces are around the top, I'm pretty sure those are modified just slightly.  I haven't looked closely at the dome versus previous domes yet...

And Giran remains impressive after the new-figure-high.

I got my cases last night and cracked them open so here is a quick review:

You nailed it.  I was surprised that the little stick thing with Major Panno fits right into the little sleeve thing on his cloak (really nice work) and that Luke's torso actually looks worse in pictures than in person.  Giran rocks my socks.  Like, this is a new level of greatness, Hasbro typically does its ROTJ aliens very well and this is no exception.

ALSO!  The revision case has the new Ugnaught in it-- I got mine from Entertainment Earth (as I work there) tonight.   It's pretty good, the legs are somewhat spindly without the apron covering them in part but I do still like it and I hope they ship more of them in the future.  As one probably won't cut it.  Same basic accessories as the first.

Really, really nice work on Hasbro's part.  I wish R3-M3's dome was less frosty, but hey, it's R3-O1 to me and I'm happy to have it.

Awesome, thanks for posting this!

I can't wait to get my hands on Luminara! (so to speak)

Luminara is indeed awesome.  The elbow articulation is very clever, and the face sculpt is dang near perfect.  Or close enough to seem gorgeous.  It's one of the best Jedi in the line, easily.  (But her foot holes are too shallow for most stands.)

All of my Targets are stacked double deep with ARCs so I'll be making more visits to WM to score this sucker.  Got my EE catalog today and they have the Imperial ARC advertised as a "best seller" at $74.99.  Yeeaaaaah right.

Are you saying I can't tell what's selling well at my job? :) It's a best-seller for *us*.

Seriously though, it's been doing pretty well for us. High-end toys and collectibles are kinda our thang.

The Clone Wars '08-'13 / Re: Captain Hevy?
« on: September 8, 2009, 07:08 PM »
Seems like a new voter wanted to justify the fans choice vote. Even if there was interest in Captain Hevy how many Clone commanders are there in this line now? It's overkill and not exciting at all.

Having just finally got Gree and Thire, I'm pretty happy with all the Clones and Clone variety.  I no longer have the urge to army build thanks to the huge amount of variety they're giving us, which was a hard bug to shake, and they're doing some pretty good things with them all.

...but no need to put Clones into Fan's Choice, that's one of few things I think we can probably take for granted that Hasbro will indeed do, given the amount of new ones in most waves and in the exclusive gift packs.

If they're going to put out more Clones anyway-- and they are-- I hope they stick with this episode until it's done.  Hevy, Cutup, whatever-- it'd be nice to see them actually go on to make all the toys from a single episode, particularly this one.  (I wouldn't say the same for, say, the Lurmen installments.)

Got mine this afternoon... just happened to have a $5 off $50 Target coupon that I somehow got in the mail for reasons I don't clearly understand.

Here's a really crappy Flickr gallery. http://digg.com/u3Bhaw I included shots of the 3 red Astromechs so you can get a look at them side-by-side.

It's not bad.  The sticker sheet is basically all white, the stickers go on the white part, and they're basically invisible from a distance.  Totally worthless except for one which goes in the canopy.

Hasbro really loaded it up with play features.  For the asking price, I'm a little surprised they didn't put in a beep or a light or something, but there's a ton of projectiles here.  The handle's a nice touch.  R2-D2 and the gunner could probably use a booster seat though.

Has anyone scanned these lately?  I've had a few reasonable-but-unconfirmed reports of a couple of Wal-Marts marking them down to an even $10.00.  No receipts yet but certainly interesting if there's any truth to it.

Some good news for fans of this in our Q&A, at least as far as pricing goes...  Now, I just hope they make it.
