AFA kubs? What a racket.
These are new toys. They come boxed and double bagged. They look new. I put a sticker on them saying they look new. Now give me an extra $50.00  ::)

I freed blue snaggy from the plastic yesterday, ahhhh. It looks like they used the DSG legs on him, other than that just a straight up repaint of reddy. I would be worried about these being bootlegs (no pun intended) soon.

Saga Collection '06 / Re: SAGA - how much have you bought so far?

I am trying to cut back on some of the re-issues (gotta fund the kubricks), and returned most of the Carkoon wave. I'm a hoth junkie though, so I have 3 AT-AT drivers, 2 Veers, a snowtrooper and 2 power droids all loose. I have one of each from that wave carded.

Looking good Jay-
we're going to make TRU in Minnesota think Johnny lightning is all the rage at the rate we are buying up the cases!

Kubricks / Re: 400% Kubricks

A 400% Chewie would be fantastic! He would have to be closer to a 500%- make him a head taller than Han and Luke.
Vader has to be coming soon. I just hope his helmet is a little better at staying put than the 100% version.

THREE CHEERS FOR THE GRIZZLY UNSHAVEN TOBACCO CHEWING STAINED MAILMAN!!

Spanky came through with a blue snaggletooth for 13680 yen shipped. It's no clearance price, but I'll take it and call series 5 complete.

Just snagged a 400% red/yellow fett on the bay. Now to go start watching for the mailman again...

Thanks again for the extra gunners Jeff- my imperial army is taking shape (blocky-shape, that is)  ;D .

I jsut spent 20 minutes reading through the posts from when all of you guys were getting your series 5 cases. That was some damn fun reading! I'm glad I'm in for a MC for series 6, just to blast through the box! I was luck enough to be interested in these when they first came out, so I got my EB kit right away, and all of the basics from the early series cheaply. I didn't grab the Rebo and endor sets when I had the chance, but eventually I'll get them.

I ordered a blue snag from Spanky's last week. It looks like it should be here tomorrow or monday, and that will complete series 5. I'm going to thin the Hasbro herd a little, and try to get a few of the early Kubrick items I'm missing. I can live without Logray and VC jawa, but those early fett chases...

Saga Collection '06 / Re: The Future of Star Wars Collecting
« on: January 30, 2006, 09:55 PM »
I have to admit, I feel like I am getting an overdose of 3 3/4 these days. Maybe it wouldn't be that way if the saga figures didn't seem like a $2.00 more expensive version of the OTC line I loved in 2004. And with many of the same faces.
I started out 2006 buying the carkoon and Hoth waves, but after seeing Bib # 3 still suck and some of the less than stellar items coming in future waves, well I don't know what to think of the direction Hasbro is taking the line. I know there are others I am looking forward to (just about any trooper, R5-D4 etc), but I have already decided I will not be getting a "complete" saga 2006 collection. And the reasons are equal parts price hike and too many rehashes too close together. I find myself getting into Kubricks and enjoying my older items (action fleet and micro playsets, along with the 3 3/4 scale ships.

Now I'll rant about my favorite pet peeve. Chase figures. If Hasbro perceives a lack of excitement about the 3 3/4 line, and thinks chase figures are the answer to infuse the collecting community, well I think they are #?@@ing nuts. Figures aren't exactly getting ordered in mass quantities by the big discounters these days. Shelf space has been reduced, and the pegs that are there only get a case or two at a time, and sit empty (or with bib) the rest of the time. Chase figures will lure the hot-wheel scalpers back into the action figure aisle, convincing them that a free $5.00 profit is waiting for their unwashed selves if they can beat a collector to the foil card. Stack on top of that the fact that you may have to buy a certain number of harder to find figures in order to get a mail away, and you have all the makings of a disgruntled and disappointed collecting community. I love the idea of mail-aways, and think it is the only way for a company to truly reward their loyal cash cows. If the retailers are squeamish about playsets, make them the mail away offer. Send in POP's for 20 figures, get a chunk of death star. Make 1/2 dozen that go together in some fashion, and I will be all over it. You've got the hanger bay, detention block, garbage chute, chasm, tractor beam control station, govenor tarkins conference room, etc.

OK, enough of the rant.

Give me 30-40 figures a year max. Toss in 2-3 ships, and a couple of evolutions sets, and I might try to keep up. And try to keep figure costs down. I have to agree with Darth Slothus- give us a quality prduct at a good price, then tell us whether it succeeds or not. Hasbro has made a couple of efforts to revive lines (action fleet and 12" come to mind) and then kill it with the assortment choice. The 2002 action fleet line was doomed the moment they released the Xwing and Darth's Tie- those two had been on clearance just a couple of years prior. 12" line? How about poor quality and boring characters (Dengar and Imperial officer anyone?). And now the unleashed line will come back with repaints as a debut. And when it predictably falls on its' own face? "Collectores don't want the line" will be the response.

I can see it's time for my medication. But seriously, less can be more, if it is done right.

Nice looking collection!  ;D

I started the registration process with Robby on Friday, but haven't heard back yet. I really want to get myself into a mastercase this time around-

Just grabbed another box of series 4 from Toynk in Chicago. I had won a couple of other things from him, so shipping was basically free. They don't always have what you are looking for, but if they do, the price is usually right. That means I can get my last stormtroopers in line where they belong.

Other Collectibles / Re: Most Valuable SW Item???
« on: January 27, 2006, 07:38 AM »
From the modern line, I won one of those Toy Fair vac-metalized Vaders, and a cinema cast vader coming down the stairs, from the Jedi point auctions. As much as I love kubricks right now, I think those two vaders would be the last thing I would let go.
From the vintage line, I still have my AT-AT with its' empire box, and a dewback I got as a christmas present when I was about 8. Those I consider priceless.

I'll post for my daugters- With the release of ROTS, there were a ton of mail away items for food companies. My 8 and 5 year old went nuts when we came home one day and there were 3 packages for them with the cookie jars from Kellogs. They still talk about it like it was yesterday, and they still use their lightsaber spoons.

I'm a big fan of companies doing mail-away and other reward type programs. My biggest pet peeve right now is chase figures and the impending Hasbro experiment with that same idea. A mail away will reward people who buy and open figures (I know these offers are tough on MOC collectors). A chase figures says "Hey, speculators and scalpers! Over Here! Come make 5 extra dollars and still not have to take a bath!" Creating a false sense of worth to infuse the hobby with excitement, well, I'm against it. The mail away offer for George Storm sounds like a Scalpers wet dream. They can hold specific figures hostage that collectors need to get their mail away. Ugg. Here's hoping my visions don't come to pass...

Other Collectibles / Re: Playskool Galactic Heroes Thread
« on: January 26, 2006, 01:58 PM »
Well, they were gone when I checked back. But I wasn't seeing things because they had a silver logo han and leia set from the same wave left.

I like this line too, and have them all loose up through the current wave. I know collectors (myself included) can often be guilty of impatience, but seeing as how they have been re-releasing so many of the characters, I am surprised to see the aftermarket prices so high. It isn't like the large unleashed or Galactic Heroes ships where Hasbro has stated they are gone (even if it is only temporary). Wal marts and Targets here in Minnesota each have 304 pegs dedicated to just galactic heroes figures. That is as much as the regular 3 3/4 figures get.

So, I would reccommend patience. They will be back- the pegs are literally waiting there for them.

I think there was a steaming ewok :P, it was supposed to be a heart-tugging moment.  ::)

Thanks Jeff for hooking me up to the super-sized-krack stormie set.  They are even bigger than I expected, and twice as cool! ;D
