Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Terminator Salvation
« on: May 26, 2009, 02:55 PM »
Helena Bonham Carter was a just a program that was implemented to run the system.  I am glad someone else thought the Arnold Cameo was a bit cheesy.  The FX are just not there yet to warrant something like this. My prediction is that by the end of the third movie (if they make it that far) that Connor willl somehow end up being a Terminator in some form. I also think that the beginning should have connected more to the other films.  There seems to be around 10+ years with no explanation of how the characters arrived to where they are in the movie. Maybe a flashback will be in the next movie explaining this.

Spoiler..............................

Not to address Kate's pregnancy was an ill attempt to leave an open door question for the sequel IMO.  It should have been addressed regardless. I just hope that the baby does not end up being someone who has shown up in some form in a previous movie.

Can someone answer this for me.  Why didnt the Terminators just go back to an earlier timeline and eliminate anyone who had a chance of changing the future?  I know on the Sarah Connor Chronicles that the machines went back to an incorrect timeline and waited for the future to eliminate their targets.  Why not just eliminate that persons parents, grandparents, etc.  Was this ever explained?

Just got back.  Severely disappointed.  FYI, I stayed away from spoilers, etc.  My prediction came true, storytelling is not all about CGI like many directors of today believe.  They took the whole existing storyline from 1 and 2 and botched it. I love Bale, but he sucked as Connor.

Just a heads up the Leia head is swappable with the VOTC Leia, so now we have a perfect ANH Leia.

The Freeze Frame run of POTF still remain to me one of the best balanced OT series in the modern lines.  While not the best sculpts by todays standard they are the only Carded Figs I have retained since '95.  The 56 figure collection has it all; good pack-in, great character selection, exclusives plus a few rare figs to boot.

Wow suprised no one mentioned this recent death. Marilyn Chambers dead at 56.

Picked up an Endoskeleton Terminator.  Worst figure ever.  Horrible articulation.  Was hoping these would fit in with other 3-3/4" figs but they dont.  This thing is really undersized plus the arms are longer than the legs and the weapons stink plus dont fit correctly in its hand.

IMO this whole time travel, prequel, sequel mess is just another attempt to make this storyline more marketable and allows the future writers, directors, etc more power to continue this story as long as they can milk it.  Confusion is not story telling, but that looks like how they are going to pull along fans til the end of the third pic I bet to explain everything. You wanna throw a monkey wrench in?  Make everyone find out at the end of this trilogy that John Connor is a Termninator.  Couldnt he have been replaced at some point once he reaches adult age?  Or even a Terminator that can grow, learn, age, feel pain and fool all that surround it.

I'm a purist when it comes to the "original cuts" of the film.  But do not mind added scenes, changed scenes, etc. as long as those original versions will always be available.  The cantina scene and Jabba's palace could be cleaned up a bit.  So many characters have that rubbery look which make them look questionable.  I could accept some added aliens in both of these scenes using species from the PT but not to overload the scenes where you would instantly recogize them.  Make them off in the background just visible.  Kind of like how the Arcana (SP?) figure was added to the Coruscant Billboard sign outside the Outlander club in AOTC. Also, where are all those familiar species at Mos Espa that were seen ANH. Other than that clean up the space scenes or redo many of the shots.  Also, even though Lucas said it added no value, I would like to see the Anchorhead scenes added back into ANH.  My biggest gripe with the whole story is that Obi-Wan is so old in ANH, even though it takes place 20 years after Sith. When the CGI gets better you could possibly take a few years off Alec Guiness but being such an iconic character and actor it bothers me somehow.  Also, the lightsaber battle in ANH looks lame to me now after seeing what they did with the PT.  Even in ESB and ROTJ Vader was so much more agressive. Not looking for a change in the Ben character but it would be interesting to see what it would look like with an aged Ewan McGregor reshooting the Kenobi scenes.

but it does sort of bother me that there is no reference to her in any of the movies in any other way.  Of course it is because they didn't think of/conceive her character until after the movies, but its just an example of something Lucas sometimes does where he shoehorns something in and it doesn't necessarily have to make sense.

Im sure that she will eventually be referenced when Lucas gets around to recut the film on its 2nd or 3rd time.

For those interested, the MU Wolverine Motorcycle and Sabretooth comic versions are on sale at TRU.com for 13.98.  With shipping and tax it was still cheaper than the in store price.

Regarding characters, There was a recent story on this in some magazine a few months back.  Here is what I remember reading. Main characters who would not appear included Vader, Emperor, Obi-Wan, Yoda.  Anthony Daniels would be featured frequently as 3PO.  Jimmy Smits has had discussions and it looks likely he will reappear. Temeura Morrison was mentioned. Other characters who were mentioned were Antilles, Dodonna, R2, Owen, Beru, the twins, Tarkin, Ackbar, Mothma, the Bounty Hunters, Jabba, Imperials from the OT, Madine, various Stormtroopers evolving into the OT Stormtropers and a few Jedi that fans would recognize. It also stated that many of these characters may only show up in one episode and may have no more than a few minutes of dialogue. Also there may be a surprise guest occasionally. I dont remember the whole article and may have missed a few items.

Not sure if anyone remembers a Q&A from Hasbro, probably 2-3 years ago now.  They said that that when, and if the Retro line returns, that they would follow suit with Joe and have the non bubble cased cards to keep costs down and that there was a very good chance some older figs that they believe were ultimate versions would be re-released (R5-D4, Luke Endor, comes to mind).  Hopefully they recard the new Ben Kenobi and Endor C-3PO.  With all the new planned figs coming out in the next 3 years they pretty much can finalize all 97 figs minus a handful (Walrusman, Anakin, Bespin Security, Hoth Luke, Hoth Leia, Bespin Han, Zuckuss, Weequay, Nien Nunb, Gam Guard, A few more Ewoks, Ree-Yees, Dignitary. Recard, repaint, add soft goods and recard figs like Comic Pack Amanamin, Death Star Trooper (Repaint to Death Squad Commander), ROTS Royal Guard, General Calrissian, Squidhead, etc.  I'm sure they will tie up all the Retro stuff.  And for a mail in promo how about a vintage 3-pack boxed Max Rebo Band. There is still "9" years left on the license.

The Ten Remix...good stuph

Scott, do you find the mix that much different?  Ive listened twice now and cant hear that much of a difference and if was kind of a letdown, not the album but the mix.  When I bought the recently remixed Doors albums the sound difference was so noticeable.

Also, a couple of those unreleased songs dont seem to fit in with the ten album and I personally think they were recorded at a later time.

So are there any hardcore collectors on this board?  Curious if anyone collects older titles or just current. I just finished my personal goal of collecting every major Marvel Title from 1970-1990 (in order with no missing issues) and it was a great feeling to finish off.  For those thinking of getting rid of titles, think twice.  I unfortuneately traded and gave away a ton of issues in the 80's that came back to haunt me.  Notably the Miller Daredevil titles which I had to reaquire. Simply from the Nostalgic POV  I could not see myself getting rid of my books. Although the books published since 1990 have not interested me either in storylines or art and thats why I gave it up.
