Title: Shannon (Princess) has become one with the Force...
Post by: hansolo_506 on June 19, 2006, 12:59 PM
Edit by JediMAC: Split this topic off from Shannon's previous thread (http://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=7955.0), and edited the title.

Unfortunately, the news none of us wanted to hear but knew was coming has arrived.  Shannon passed this weekend.

 :'( She will be missed.

Wow....this is one heck of a shocker.  I didn't think she would pass so soon.  I did not know Shannon outside of these boards and the occaisional chatroom discussion, but she was always fun to talk to and just had a unique view on life.

I will miss her.

As many of us have already mentioned over at GH, this is terribly heartbreaking news, and perhaps a bit sooner than many of us were expecting.  Shannon was a sweetheart, and a good friend to many of us here at JD (not to mention her GH compadres).  Many of us shared some fun times with her at C3, and many entertaining discussions with her both before, and since.  It's been terrible hearing of her physical struggles and pain over the past year, but I take comfort in knowing that she's moved on from all of that, and is happy and healthy again, in a better place now.  We'll certainly miss her cheerful spirit here at JD, as will the greater collecting community as a whole.

As for Tracy, you are a wonderful friend for flying out and being with Shannon this past weekend, and (perhaps unexpectedly) at the time of her passing last night.  I know you brought her, and her family, great comfort in being there.  Thank you.

To our JD members, please stay tuned for some details soon on a collaborative effort we hope to be doing with the Galactic Hunter crew, for Shannon's family...

Rest in peace, Shannon.  Thanks for brightening up all of our lives in your time here with us...

- Matt

THis is really shocking and terrible news.  I'm very sorry for Shannon's family and for all who knew her.  The best thing about JD is the community here, and I'm sure her loved ones know how much she's missed.

As I have only been on these boards for a few months, I did not know Shannon.  I can only offer my condolences to her family and friends and remind them not to concentrate on mourning her passing, but to celebrate her life, and remember all of the great times they had together.   The memories they have of her will be with them forever.  I lost my father to cancer about 6 weeks ago, and it's not an easy thing to see happen to a person.
I'm so sorry.

It rips me up to see someone so young taken from us so early.  :(  Not knowing Shannon aside from these boards, I don't have anything personal to say or stories to tell.  But I will say that from what I have read of her during this whole ordeal, she appeared to be a very strong person with a wonderful attitude and an unbreakable will.  Very admirable qualities, and she will truly be missed by many.

Damn, it's hard to see someone taken in the prime of her life like Shannon has been.  I had the pleasure of meeting her in person at C3 in Indianapolis and her fun spirit immediately made her stand out.  I'll certainly miss her.  The consolation is that she is in a much better place without pain.

The Force is with you Shannon.

Like many of ther others around here I never had the pleasure of knowing Shannon in person. She always seemed like a very upbeat and positive person. I enjoyed reading her posts, and everything she contributed to the SW online community.

Shannon, you will be missed but never forgotten.

"Death is a natural part of life. Rejoice for those around you who transform into the Force. Mourn them, do not. Miss them, do not. Attachment leads to jealousy. The shadow of greed, that is."

Rest in Peace Shannon, you are off to a better place.

This is certainly sad news.  I did not know Shannon from outside these boards either.  However, I remember the fun picturess people posted of her at C3 and did view her website several times.  She seemed like a fun person who loved her son very much.  At least now her struggles are over.   I send my heartfelt condolences to her family and friends.  May The Force Be With You Shannon....always.

It's one day later and I still don't know what to say...

My condolences to her son and father and the rest of her family and friends.  Shannon was a great gal and a good friend to so many folks here.  I feel like so many others have said that she is in a better place now without the pain.

Again, my thoughts and prayers go out to her family.   :'(

What can I say about Shannon that hasn't already been said?  Even in her last days, she was worried about others and making sure everybody else was taken care of.  Even on Sunday she was still trying to crack little jokes.

She tried so hard to fight this -- Wonder Woman truly gave it everything she had.  Once she came home she never lost hope, but she made peace with her prognosis.

She was ready both physically and spiritually.  She went peacefully at her father's home, with her dad and myself there with her.  She visited with Aidan earlier that day and was able to hug and kiss him before he left.  She had some friends visit over the weekend and spoke with some others on the phone on Sunday.

I am so thankful that I was able to spend time talking with her these past few days -- let alone these past few months.

Thanks to everyone who has pm'd me and called -- I really appreciate talking to you.

Goodbye Shannon Colleen -- remember:

Luminous beings are we -- not this crude matter

My condolences go out to her family as well. I never knew Shannon outside of the forums, but I always hear about what a kind and caring person she was. I know what it's like to have a close family member pass from cancer, so I have an idea of what her family is feeling. I hope they remain strong and always remember the good times they had with her.

RIP Shannon, you certainly didn'd deserve any of this.

I didn't ever know her personally, I don't really know any of you outside of the forums, but I can't help but feeling I've lost a good friend. My prayers going out to her family, especially her son, to have lost a close relative(on top of it being your mom) is always hard and is even worse seeing it happen to a child.

May the Lord watch over thee Shannon. :'(

I didn't really know Shannon, but I was reading her thread this morning and she seems like a great person.  My condolences go out to her family, and espically her son.  I lost my grandfather at 10, and that was terrible.  I can't imagine losing my mom then.
This idea just popped into my head.  Is her son a SW fan?  If so, maybe some of the customizers could send him a couple customs as a gift.  just a thought...

This was really hard to read this morning. I met Shannon at C3, and I always thought she was a great person...always very cheerful and friendly from the start. She also had a really, really funny t-shirt on, which is what I remember the most even now. I guess little things like that pop into your head when this sort of thing happens. This really is hard to deal with, but I take comfort in knowing that she is not in pain anymore, and that this wasn't a sudden thing. Hopefully she was able to put everything in order and say goodbye to everyone. She will certainly be missed.

May the Force be with you all.

Not unlike some of the others who have already contributed to this thread, I didn't know Shannon very well. Read a post here, had a brief conversation with her in the chatroom there...but inspite of that, Shannon's reputation and composure at JD and GH endeared her to not only myself, but to the entire collecting community.

Shannon, you will be greatly missed by all those who knew you. My thoughts go out to your Familiy, and especially to your son. May they take care during these times of sorrow.

Goodbye, Shannon, and good luck.  :'(

I didn't know Shannon (Princess), bu I saw her posts throughout the forums.  Always a pleasure having a lady's point of view on our crazy hobby.  After reading about her passing, I wanted to at least give my condolences to her family.  For her to be a part of our happy community will always be an honor.

I read the news earlier this morning at work but couldn't post until now.  While I didn't have the honor of meeting Shannon personally, it almost felt like I did know her through her spirit on the boards here.  The world is a much darker place without her in it and wherever she is now is a lot better for having her.

Farewell, Shannon.  Peace be with you.   :'(

Shannon I first met a while before Celebration 3, and immediately I knew this was a girl that would fit in with the best of them in the Star Wars community.  She was quick-witted, always willing to drop her opinion, she was a sweetheart to everyone she talked to, and most of all she was a friend to a lot of people in the overall Star Wars community.

I got the chance to meet her at Celebration 3 where she was making everyone crack up and smile.  Her shirt still has me laughing.  It's hard to believe that was only a year ago now.  My family and I send our deepest sympathies to Shannon's family and friends at this time, and I hope she's at peace now.  I pray for her son at this time who has the hardest burden and hope for him the strength to cope with his loss.

Shannon is a dear part of this community and she'll be truly missed whether anyone knew her well, or only in passing.

Having only chatted with Shannon once or twice on the board, I cannot say I knew her well, if at all. But having read her posts during her fight with cancer, I can say her courageous spirit and will to live were quite enviable and inspiring to everyone. My condolences go out to her friends and family, especially her son, during this time.

Shannon was a dear friend of mine. She and I communicated outside the boards quite frequently, and she was always there to give me advice and comfort when it came to my problems, however small they now seem. She was always cheery, and listened to my opinions whenever she had a question.

Unfortunately her passing came much sooner than any of us could imagine, and it is most heartbreaking. The only true consolation any of us can share right now is that she is no longer in pain, and she's moved on to bigger and better things.

She was a very strong woman, and I know that has passed on to her son, and one day when he understands more, he'll know that his mother was a strong woman, and that she had such wonderful friends like Tracy who could be with her in her final hours.

Shannon will always be in our hearts and memories. She was a true friend in the dearest sense, always worrying about every one else, so selflessly. Her example will live on, through her son, and through the ones she knew.

Keep the faith.

Kevin

Hearing that her struggle is over is terrible news, but I hope she's gone to a better place.

I went and saw Shannon's little boy Aidan this evening.  He won the BHC Survior game at GH and received a couple of packages today so we took them over to him.  He was doing very well -- was very excited to open up all of his Star Wars goodies.  Kids are really amazing.  He's had his moments -- but he was very affectionate and very happy tonight.  I just wanted everyone to know that he's doing okay. :)  I feel so much better now that I've seen him again.

Glad to hear that Aidan's doing somewhat OK right now, all things considered.  Thanks for the update, Tracy.  Nice to see Aidan's dad, Brad, stop in here to say hello (http://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=12793.0), and thanks for all the well wishes too.

Just wondering if JD is sending flowers for her if so I gladly will help with them.

Tom, our staff (with Tracy's assistance) is currently working on contributing a flower arrangement for the service on Thursday (as is GH's), but it sounds like the larger effort from the collecting community, which will likely be collaborative between our two sites, will be having everyone from the forums who's interested pitch in towards a college bond/fund for Shannon's son Aidan.  The details on that aren't quite finalized just yet, but since you asked, I thought I'd give you all an early head's up that that's the idea our sites are currently leaning towards.  So stay tuned, and we'll be updating both of our forum communities with further news on that relatively soon...

...She also had a really, really funny t-shirt on, which is what I remember the most even now...

Her shirt still has me laughing. It's hard to believe that was only a year ago now.

Sounds to me like the infamous shirt may be living on, and we'll likely be seeing it again at some point in the future.  Couldn't have been passed on to a better person, in Tracy.  ;)

I'll have to see if I can dig up a pic from our C3 thread where she was wearing it (and I was acting like a goof about it, of course)...

Thanks for stopping by JD, Brad.  I wish it were under better circumstances, of course.  I'm glad you could find some additional comfort in reading all the thoughts, memories, prayers, and well wishes from the many friends that Shannon's made online here and at GH.  Perhaps it'd be a good idea to print them all out so that Aidan might be able to read through them all some day in the future as well.  I'm sure he'd really appreciate that.

My condolences for your loss.  Shannon was a wonderful girl, and we're all going to miss her incredibly.  Just promise us that you'll take good care of Aidan for her...  :)

You know, after reading this, it almost seems like fate had a hand in Aidan winning the Survivor game this time around.  So glad he's doing OK and that the Star Wars goodies are helping him cope in such a difficult time.

I'm also glad that Shannon had such a wonderful friend by her side at the end, Tamidala.  I'm sure your presence was a tremendous comfort to her.

Rest well, Princess, you will be missed, but never forgotten.

I was thinking that as well, Roger.  What better way to remember your mom and the things you did with her, and even to (temporarily) distract, for lack of a better phrase, a young child from the incredibly difficult thought and emotions he must be thinking and feeling right now.  It really seemed like perfect timing, and almost fate, for all the GH Survivor winnings to be heading Aidan's way right now.  :)

Sounds to me like the infamous shirt may be living on, and we'll likely be seeing it again at some point in the future.  Couldn't have been passed on to a better person, in Tracy.  I'll have to see if I can dig up a pic from our C3 thread where she was wearing it (and I was acting like a goof about it, of course)...

Yep, indeed this would be the one I was trying to find...  Thanks Richard!  A fun memory, with a fun girl, indeed.  :P  (hopefully nobody minds us interjecting that amusing moment during this otherwise very sad time, but the happy memories usually help too, at a difficult time like this, I think)

Holy crap.  I had no clue about this because I haven't clicked on the main page or Watto's in a week or so.  I just got off the phone with Jamie and he told me.  I'm shocked, I truly am.  Terribly sad news.   :(

My condolences to you and your family.  I met Shannon at C3 last year and she was really cool.  We all had a lot of fun hangin out with her.  She will be missed.

That really is a great picture of her, thanks for sharing that.  I don't think I'd ever seen it before.  I am sure it puts a smile on everyone's face, and that's what she would want.

BTW, how old is her son?

I really like that name, Aidan.

Aidan Patrick is 5 years old :'(   But he is the sweetest, happiest little boy I know (other than my own, of course ;))

I laughed so hard to the first time I saw that pic, it summed her up perfectly :)
She's probably looking down and laughing at it too.

I recall some of Shannon's posts from here and the BHC.  She was always a class act.  It's nothing short of a tragedy for someone her age to pass away.  I hope that her family and most importantly her little boy will be okay.

I was doing a search & found Shannon's obituarie in the Herald Democrat  (http://www.heralddemocrat.com/articles/2006/06/21/obituaries/obit02.txt) online.

I also took the time to do a screen capture incase the page vanishes from the site. You can view the page in my link below. You just have to enlarge it to read it.

Shannon Colleen Reynolds Obituarie (http://www.telusplanet.net/public/djustus/Darth%20Vader/Shannon%20Colleen%20Reynolds%20Obituarie.jpg)

Shannon was very helpful to me as my nephew has liver cancer which we found out after X-max. Shannon really helped me through it.

Tomorrow at 10am, I will take a minute of silence & remember Shannon.

PS, yes that picture is classic!  8)

I showed that picture to Shannon's father tonight -- he really got a kick out of it. :)  He immediately decided that he had to print it out!

Hey Brad, thank you for stopping by the site, and I hope some of the kind words from the readers here who knew Shannon have been of some comfort to her friends and family.  She was a wonderful person and will be missed by many, many people.  Take care, and my family's thoughts go out to all Shannon's friends and family.

Aidan had a blast camping. we roasted marshmallows, went fishing (ran out of room on the camera for pics of the fish) made smores. we went swimming everyday. Just to fill you in on the lake, we went to lake Texoma. even though we live 10 minutes from it. It is 89,000 acres. 580 mile of shoreline.

I just realised who this was. And I am ashamed of myself for not posting sooner. Though I never really knew her personally, we did swap comments a few times on a couple of threads. The world lost a good person. She will be sadly missed.

May she be at peace. :'(

Hope he is doing ok, but it's really hard for him. I know how he feels, you see I too lost my mother, when I was a child.  :(

I just found this pictures of you son, hope it's ok I post it here. I allways liked that picture. The Santa look really nice and friendly and Aiden is very handsome on that picture.

I didn't know Shannon that well--I never met her, and it seems like we didn't frequently cross paths here on the JD boards--but I feel like I ought to say something. She was a classy lady and I know she will be truly missed in this community. My condolences to her family, friends, and loved ones.

I am putting together a scrapbook of the postings on JediDefender and GH regarding Shannon to give to her son, Aidan.  I would like to include any pictures that anyone has from any cons or gatherings.  If you have any pictures of Shannon that I could include in Aidan's scrapbook, please PM me.   I really want Aidan to know how much his mother meant to everyone and what a caring person she was.  Thanks everyone. :)

I just wanted to let you all know that I finally got around to mailing the savings bonds to Aidan today.  It's been a hectic few months for me, and I apologize for dropping the ball (or at least holding onto it for so long) like this.

I sent the bonds to Aidan care of Shannon's dad. I included the following note to Mr. O'Neill explaining what the meaning of the package was:

I also sent Aidan a Christmas card in the package, along with an Episode III electronic book that plays various sound bites and sound effects when you push the buttons, and a Christmas ornament based on the C-3PO & R2-D2 holiday image that a friend of mine made (the Yoda one was for me).

I'm hoping Aidan will hold onto the card by which to help him remember how much Shannon meant to so many people.

Roger,

Thanks again for doing this.  Those are very nice notes you wrote.  I was with Shannon when Richard (Name) called her the morning before she died.  He spoke with her about setting up a bond for Aidan and she was very receptive to the idea and very touched that her online SW friends thought so much of her and Aidan.  It really was a great comfort to her.   I can't believe its been nearly six months. :(

Yeah, thanks again for all your efforts Roger.  I'm sure they'll be very grateful for the generosity from all of Shannon's friends...

I'm actually working on a Christmas package right now for Aidan as well.  I was going to send it after he won Survivor a while back (even though I didn't play this past season), but I never quite got around to sending it out.  So I figured what better time to send it than Christmas!  Thanks to Tracy for passing along his father's addy.  Hopefully I'll get it fired off by the end of the week here.

I hope Aidan's doing relatively well this Holiday season, without his Mom for the first time...  :'(

Brad Reynolds, Shannon's ex-husband, just called me.  Aidan got the package and opened it today for his birthday.  The family was very appreciative and touched by everybody's efforts and caring.  Thanks again Roger for all of your hard work.  Brad said Aidan is a happy little boy and is doing well.  He will post some pictures of Aidan after the holidays.

Just an FYI -- this Saturday -- June 2nd would have been Shannon's 36th birthday.   The first anniversary of her death -- June 18th -- is quickly approaching.  I'm not sure if any of you are aware of this or not, but in the months before Shannon died her mother and grandmother died also.  Her grandfather died the night of her funeral.  Shannon was an only child. So, in less than a year Shannon's father lost his wife, his only child and both of his parents.  Sounds like a bad soap opera.   Please keep Mr. O'Neill in your thoughts and prayers in the coming weeks.  I just sent him some flowers for Shannon's b-day.  I would rather celebrate the day of her birth than mourn the day of her death.  If you would like his address to send a card in honor of Shannon's bday - PM me.  He would get a kick out of it.  After spending time with him I could definitely see where Shannon got her wicked sense of humor 8)

I forgot to post this picture earlier. I've spoken with Shannon's father a couple of times and he and Aidan are both doing well. Aidan is in 1st grade now. Mr. O'Neill sent this picture to me over the summer:

I can't believe it has been 10 years since that awful night at Shannon's father's house. I know that many things have happened to us in those 10 years: jobs, homes, weddings, babies, loss of loved ones, etc. I know that my little family has experience some struggles over those 10 years - but mostly we've found joy. I know that I am a better person for having known Shannon. As hard as it was to see her struggle in her final days, hours and minutes - I believe that experience has made me a more compassionate person. So wherever you are today - or whatever you are doing - take a moment to reflect on all of the good things that you've enjoyed these ten years. Then raise a glass to Shannon.

Here here...I'm always reminded of one of my favorite Pearl Jam songs in times like these...RIP Shannon

And wherever you've gone and wherever we might go
It don't seem fair, today just disappeared
Your light's reflected now, reflected from afar
We were but stones, your light made us stars

I enjoyed reading her posts.

The one that stands out and still makes me smile was her relaying when her toddler son, out of the blue, began threatening the butcher (or someone at the grocery store). Horror gave way to bemusement when she realized that her son was mouthing words from Dr. Evazan's lines.
