Title: CW Super Vulture Droid
Post by: Darth Gamboa on December 1, 2008, 03:27 PM
Entertainment Earth and BBTS have these up for preorder.

What are these?

My guess is we'll get a Droid Starfighter the size of Greivous starfighter that can fire more missles and perhaps have a cockpit for more play value.

I think it'll be the Hasbro version of the Hyena Droid Bomber.

That looks cool.

Is this something we're actually going to see on the TV show?

I'd like to think it'd be a super articulated droid, but that key word "articulated" is missing.  :P

I'm wondering is this might just be a large Vulture droid.  The ones that were in the "Bombad Jedi" episode were fairly large when they were in the walker mode.  Definitely bigger than any of the Vulture droids that were offered in the EPISODE I vehicle line or the ROTS Deluxe figure line.

The Hasbro Vulture Droids are pretty tiny actually...  Estes made one that's pretty much perfectly scaled and nicely detailed to boot, but it's somewhat rare.  It was a droid I didn't pay much attention to till E3 and then I realized how tiny Hasbro's figure is by comparison. :(

SWEET, though it's not the Hyena Droid Bomber, just a regular Vulture Droid.

Pic here,

That's not bad at all. It's hard to say without anything to compare it to but it certainly looks like it is closer to scale, hopefully perfectly to scale. I'm not sure if I'll end up picking it up or not though. I've really cut back on all things PT and I do already have the Estes version that Jesse mentioned earlier, but this doe slook pretty spiffy.

If this one walks though, I'm down.

If (and I stress IF here) we're getting a new to-scale Vulture Droid fighter, I'm all for it...  I'm surprised they'd even do it, but I'm sure Hasbro will pack some kind of punch in it like make it a poseable walker as well as a larger/bulkier droid fighter like it should be.  I'd imagine for $20 you're gonna get something large and properly scaled anyway.

If not...  I'm disappointed.

The Magna Guard Fighter looks quite impressive too...  Very nice.

The Estes ship will look quite nice as an E1 fighter for now. ;)

Very cool.  I'm wondering if Hasbro has tried to make this new Vulture droid so that it has a cockpit.  They engineered the Homing Spider Droid that way.  I'm assuming it's for more play value.  That's not totally movie accurate, but it makes for something of a more interesting toy.

If it transforms well, I'll probably pick this up. I'm sure we'll see a non-CW version at some point.

Well it looks like each wing is two pieces so a split laterally down the middle to have them become the four "legs" looks to be there based on the hi-res picture.

I actually hope they didn't make it so there is a "cockpit" - I'm hoping more for a articulated "robot" mode.

I think that what would really make the image of the Super Vulture Droid a little more informative is if there was a figure or something else in the image.  That would at least give it a sense of scale.

For $21.99 - I'm pretty sure there's going to be a cockpit and a buzz droid or two....and they're going to repaint this thing to death in the years coming.

One of the things that I really ended up liking from Toy Fair was this thing.

It's bigger, it's better, it transforms (http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3299/3305902916_2221fa75e5_o.jpg) - a very cool, very fun toy.  The Hasbro gang said the size/sculpt/design came from a deleted scene from the CW theatrical movie (which may be on the DVD, I can't recall now).

Before I wasn't sure I'd buy one, but now I'm looking forward to it. :)

It looks pretty close to-scale too...  I agree, this is probably one of the things I'm most looking forward to, especially if it transforms.  Much better than the 3 dinky lame ones we got for Episode 1, that's for certain.  There was a model rocket made that used a scale Vulture Droid, but it's a single piece for the most part, so this is much better.

I'm anxious to see it in person compared to figures now.

This was one of my favorite things shown at Toy Fair as well, and I just saw some of the "transforming" pics over at Han's Hideout this morning.  That made it that much cooler.  I've often been on the fence with continuing the prequel era ships (due to space), but they are really coming out with some nifty ones lately.

The Vulture Droid played a pretty big role in ROTS actually, and it plays an even larger role in TCW so I'm pretty excited over this thing.  I think besides this, the Republic hover tank was the only other vehicle that really got my collecting juices flowing.  That tank looks badass and also to-scale...  Combined that's some easy money from me for Hasbro.  Especially since I'll want a couple tanks and at least 3 Vultures if it is indeed scaled right.

It's nice to have SOME vehicle to look forward to in '09 since there's not much else "big" I'm buying except for figure packs.

Totally psyched about this fighter. I'll agree with Jesse, this and the Hover Tank look boss and are the highlights of the $20 assortment. I'm game for four of these suckers to combat my Republic fleet and armored battalions, since they can do both. The walking feature looks great and I cannot wait to get one to try it out myself. Do we have an ETA at stores for this and the Magna Guard ship? Online shops have this as February/March while Hasbro said June.

It's hitting store now as I was able to pick one up (http://www.yakface.com/TGuide2004/html/TCW/vehicles/vulture_droid.html) yesterday along with the Magnaguard Fighter.

I saw the Magnaguard fighter yesterday but I'm passing for now until I have an extra $25 plus tax.

I saw your pics at Yakface, Jayson.  really nice scale comparison.  If I had to guess, it's just right, which is a darn nice thing for me.

I opened one of these up last night. It's weird to have one of these in a larger size after handling the original offering for so long. It's nicely done, no doubt about that. Nice and solid, well designed toy. My only beef, it would have been cool to have the "nacelles" collapsable to make them more compact for flight vrs. fight mode.

I did see both this and the MagnaGuard fighter at Target last weekend, but didn't really have the funds to pick either one up.  I wouldn't mind grabbing at least the Vulture Droid at some point though.  I thought the box for this ship seemed super light, but I guess that continues with the theme of "less for more" with Hasbro lately.  Our Target at least still has these at $19.99 though (so far).

Got the Vulture Droid last week. Definitly worth the $20, despite the light box. Assemlbed, the ship is pretty big. In walking mode, it's huge. The toy reminds me of the Spider Droid. Doesn't feel like much, but when assembled feels like it's worth $20 or more.

I agree...  I was surprised how light the box was, then assembled it's quite a decent little vehicle.  Lots of missles, lots of good paint detail, it's fairly sturdy for the design actually.  Both walking and flight modes are actually sturdy.  It pops apart for a pile of droid parts thanks to a Jedi...  It's neat.  It's also to-scale by the best of my estimations since I didn't have time to measure and compare, however comparison with images from the films indicates it's pretty spot-on.  I've had a Boomer Droid standing under it in walking mode and it matches hangar shots from TPM quite well.

Echoing the sentiments of others, this really is a great toy.  I've been wanting a well-done Vulture Droid since the TPM deluge of ten years ago, and it's nice to finally get one done right.  I hope I'm not alone in actually wishing for a TPM/green repaint of this somewhere down the line, as it's one repaint I would gladly buy.

Yeah, this ship is totally worth it. My wife found one of them plus a Magnadroid fighter. Both are worth the pricepoint, IMO. Now if we could only get the CW Y-wing to come down to about half of what we are being told it's going to sell for...

The size of the Droid SF and Magnaguard fighters is totally on par for the price. The fact that the Droid SF transforms is all the better.

Got mine last week.  Very nicely done!  I had concerns over it balancing well enough in walking mode, but that's not really an issue.  I think the wingtip missiles help to stabilize it somewhat.

Oh, and I would ABSOLUTELY buy an Episode I repaint of this vehicle.  This is totally what the Episode I droid starfighters should have been.

Agreed, this offering kicks ass.  I have two so far, might stop with these ones but if they do paint variations, I'd be all over these much more than Jedi Starfighters personally.

The walking feature makes these seem gigantic - I love seeing them tower over clones and droids.  Freaking SWEET.

Best mid-sized vehicle for me since the Hailfire Droid.   :)

Heck, if they decide to bring back the UBP's next year, throw one of these in...
