Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Memories of Christmas Past...
« on: December 5, 2008, 05:01 PM »
Wow, I can think of a lot. I remember getting a stretch monster that I thought was pretty cool at the time until it tore and I got red corn syrup everywhere. The remote controlled R2 was a favorite too but paled in comparison to the death star playset. I think I played with that the entire day. Of course I can't forget the Atari 2600. Man, I can remember a lot of good toys I wish I still had. Buck Rogers, micronauts, zeroids, Battlestar Galactica, G1 transformers, He-man... For those of you who were there here's some funny 70's flashback stuff.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: What do you drive?
« on: December 4, 2008, 11:02 AM »
I thought FOcus got good scores on the longevity, gas mileage, etc.  And I've heard it's one of the better cars on the road quality-wise competing easily with foreign cars.  Probably because I'd bet it's comprised of many foreign made parts, if not constructed itself in another country.  ::)  I've heard nothing but good things about the Focus though...  Stuff like that, the G5 (or G6?  I'm losing track of Pontiac cars these days), I've always heard good things about.

The new ones are probably on par.

The early versions. . . from my own experience and others. . . not so much.

I have a 2000 focus zx3 and I've got to say, everything I've heard that could go wrong with it has. It's been sitting for the past 6 months with the transmission out. The car has less than 90k on it. I've replaced the ignition cylinder ($350), had the strut coils replaced (recall or it would have been very expensive, quoted at $800) and the hatch lock has gone bad but may also be on a recall. I've researched the trany issue and have found it usually goes bad after you pass 60k. In some cases it's a matter of replacing selenoids but a full rebuild has cost some up to $1,900. I wouldn't suggest the car unless you've got cash to burn. Some have even had to have it done 3 times in less than 20k miles. I've got a 97 Ford Probe that I drive on a daily basis now.

The Clone Wars '08-'13 / Re: Asaaj Ventress-Good figure or not?

I'm not collecting this line either. I've bought a Ashoka but that's about it. My girlfriend digs this one though and I've thought about picking it up since it seems to be hanging around a bit.

Well of the Souls / Re: Hasbro 3.75" - 2008 Wave 3 (TLC)

That was how I was feeling about it too but I kept getting outbid on Elsa and knew I was going to have to pay a premium for her anyway. It was then I found a BIN at $20 for the pair and since I needed both I got sucked in. Plus I had a 10% discount coupon at ebay. The way I see it is that for $22.50 if I subtract $5 for shipping it was $17.50 for the pair. I just paid $7.50 ($6.99+6.75%) for Mola Ram at retail. I figure if I look at it that way I just paid retail for vogel and got elsa for $10. I wasn't ready to bite on the BP but I agree with your thinking on this.

Elsa and vogel were all that I was missing too. I finally broke down and just got them off the bay. $22.50 for both including shipping. Not the way I wanted to go out on this line but since I'm complete on ROTA and TOD I figured the hell with it. I'm fairly complete on TCS too but only because I ended up picking up a case of wave 2 early on. Not too concerned with finishing out that line. Too bad that's the end of it.

Managed to snag the TOD wave at Kroger of all places. Now if I could just find an Elsa and a Vogel I'd be done.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Cartoon Watchers?
« on: November 24, 2008, 01:22 PM »
Well that blows. I got rid of cable years ago. It's just too expensive. I don't get the CW either with the digital receiver. I don't know if it's because CW doesn't offer a digital HD channel in broadcast or we're just out of the signal range. Looks like no Saturday morning toon's for me. I think there's going to be an ongoing decrease in the number of cable subscribers in the short term if we're not already seeing it. Saturday morning's aren't intentionally cartoon mornings around my house but we end up watching them anyway. At least there are box sets to be had.

I remember when appetite came out. I was hooked, had to see them play live. I bought tickets to see David Lee Roth because they were supposed to open and they canceled. At least Steve Vai playing that show made up for it. I bought tickets to an Iron Maiden show (would have anyway) and they canceled then too. At least Megadeth filled that void. Then finally they showed up at an outdoor Metallica show. Axel came out on stage, sang 1 song and then spent the next 15 minutes doing his primadonna act because someone in the crowd had a camera he demanded be handed over or he wasn't singing another line. I waited for their follow up and when Lies came out I was a bit put off by it. Complete 180. I haven't cared for anything they've done since. I agree on Slash's Snakepit, it wasn't GNR but it was better than what Axel was putting out IMO. Appetite is one of the few albums I can listen to from beginning to end but everything else they've done just isn't that appealing to me. I've heard one song from the new album and while I think it's better than most of the non appetite stuff it's still not that great.

I think Hasbro just want's lines they can carrier that carry themselves with no TV ad marketing.

As a business owner, wouldn't you want that?  That's just common business sense to focus on products that have a lesser cost of production and marketing.

Sure, that would be great in a perfect world if that was realistic. It takes money to make money though and if they had no intention of promoting the line then it doesn't make sense to waste the up front investment on design and tooling. Ultimately it's just a collector point of view thinking Hasbro wasted their time with this line since they were resting on the newest movie solely to carry it. That just seem shortsighted to me.

On another note, I just picked up a grail knight last night. So I'm down to Vogel and Elsa I need along with the TOD wave.

I really wish they hadn't dropped this line. I was one of those on the fence guys but only due to funds and I figured since there was a glut in the SW line Hasbro would eventually do the same here. I'm short 3 figures with the exception of wave 4. I still haven't picked up a Marion because I'd seen her everywhere and I need an Elsa and Grail Knight to round out what I'm after. Of course I'm after the single card Marion to get the artifact. That will change if wave 4 shows up. EE still has it up for sale but it sounds like Hasbro might cancel orders for it. Hasbro can say all they want about a movie year for support. If you put ads on TV for Saturday mornings kids will want it if it's cool enough. I think Hasbro just want's lines they can carrier that carry themselves with no TV ad marketing. Sure there are exceptions but their logic is flawed all around IMO.

Other Collectibles / Re: Star Wars Lunchboxes
« on: November 10, 2008, 04:32 PM »
I remember having the first one back in either the 1st or 2nd grade. I don't remember if I ever had an Empire Strikes Back one but I do remember having a Clash of the Titans one too. I'd like to get another one of the first one. I have a friend who has just the box and the inside is covered in paint but he still won't come off it.

Modern Trading / Toynami Futurama figure accessories needed
« on: October 25, 2008, 08:59 PM »
Has anyone else been collecting these figures? I know it's an older line but I need some pieces from some of these figures and if anyone here has them and want's to trade for Star Wars figures let me know. I need the following items: Robot Devil Hat and Cane that came with Bender, the Robot Devil Arms and the Nixon head in a jar that came with Zap. Send me a PM with your wants and expectations for trade if you have these items.

Hi everyone, I'm looking for pretty much anything right now and have various SW figs from various lines to trade. I have figs from POTF2, TAC 07-08, legacy and TVC with a handful of various other figures from different years carded and loose. What I'm looking for are vintage weapons/accessories, playset/ship parts and pieces, G1 transformer weapons-pieces-parts, just about any 80's toys loose-boxed-pieces, Starriors, 80's Gi Joe, Voltron, thundercats, etc. I think you get the idea. Most of the hot SW stuff I've had is gone, sorry no malek's, revan's or pre-cyborg grievous, no SDCC (except Mcquarries but I hate to break the set) exclusives but I do have some mailaway items like the coin set, rocket firing fett and lucas trooper and a handful of store exclusive figs but items are available locally for sale so I'm not exactly making any lists as they could change too quickly. I'm also interested in Simpson's figures/playsets and Futurama figures. I'm always interested in lego's by the set or just a bunch of loose bricks or mini figs. If you have items like this for trade and have a list of what you are looking for just PM your want list, I'll see what I've got and let you know what I have before you make any offers. Feel free to include ships, playsets and any other toyline you might be looking for as I have a bunch of stuff and I'm looking for pieces/parts to complete figures/ships/playsets/transformers so I'm sure we can work something out. If you are looking for stuff not out yet but coming let me know as I can order cases and just trade you the figures you want for any of the above items. Please note that I can't guarantee mint condition in that instance because most of the time the cases I get are usually dinged pretty good and if not the TVC figures sometimes bounce in transit causing that slight curve at the top of the cards so I if you are interested in me doing that do so only if you intend to open the figures.

My personal focus is OT vintage and includes ewoks/ewok village/plush ewok items, death star playset, cantina and ships with a secondary focus on the star destroyer bridge. Non star wars is G1 Transformers and lego's.

I'll be setting up there, and I'll have plenty of vintage and modern toys available. Bring your want lists!

Do you ever set up at the CTS Columbus show? I'm just wondering if I've ever run into you there.

Tikicon should be a good show. I'm just not sure I'll be able to check it out due to lack of funds...

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Question About Zombies!
« on: October 16, 2008, 12:21 PM »
I may be wrong on some of this but....

According to legend, the zombies created by voodoo priests were created to serve as slaves. If you gave one of these zombies salt they'd relize they were dead and return to their graves. There was a caution on this though as once they realized they were dead they would either devour those in their way back to the grave or simple trample them in transit. I'm a bit cloudy on that. One would assume that if a zombie actually had a destination in mind to head to it would be a place they were fond of but aren't they for the most part just on the hunt for food? I always assumed that the zombies in most zombie flicks were just going where the dinner bell drove them since they would most likely be unable to think in reality. Just mindless munchers. In Let Sleeping corpses lie (which is the only title I know it by offhand, it has many) the zombies are pretty much mindless corpses risen by a horticulture experiment to kill bugs. In Gates of Hell they're risen to serve a priest who commits suicide and opens a gate to hell so their just out to destroy the world. I know Romero had a solid following but there are a lot of Italian directors who tackled this subject too. Many of those movies even banned. There was even a flick in the 70's simple called Zombies that had a lot of problems. Check IMDB for some more info and other ideas. Why work on fleshing out Romero's ideas when you can mesh up a bunch of others or just create a fresh one?

I know this isn't what you were looking for but could be usefull in creating your mythos for your story.
