Title: Star Tours Thread - Waves 1-3
Post by: JediMAC on March 25, 2003, 07:23 PM
(Click HERE (http://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=8491.0) for the discussion on Wave 4...  ;))

So the Official Site has finally shown off the final 3 figures in the Star Tours line.  I really think that when they hit the stores in a few months, they'll be on the Saga card backs, rather than the former POTJ ones, which would be kind of a bummer since they won't look like one nice complete, and uniform, set when all placed together.  So what do you guys think of them?

The R5-D4 looks pretty good, though his blast mark is a tad big.  I really hope his head is articulated, as it's hard to tell from the picture.  I'd like to get a comparison shot of this one with the ANH version, to see how they compare.

This SK-Z38 "bird" figure is frankly a huge disappointment, and flat-out dumb IMO.  A bird?  C'mon...   ::)

Finally, the G2-9T is just a repaint of the earlier droid of the same make.  Disappointing too, though we knew this one was coming.

Oh well, not too thrilling overall - especially after all the build up in recent months, though I'll be snatching them all.  The R5 has some nice potential, but I'd like to see one in person before I really judge it.  I just hope that another R5 droid is eventually released in the regular line, so we can customize armies of them for half the (Disney) price...

First off, the bird is insane. Whoever thought this thing up was doing some bad drugs... Anyway, that's my opinion and I'm sure many people will think it's neat. I'm awaiting Kris' opinion.

G2 is just a re-paint, but not a horrible one. No real love or hate for this thing....

Now, to the droid I have been most interested in ->

The R5 is nice, I like it, but the blast mark is too much. I think this R5 is more accurate to the R5 that was blasted off of Queen Amidalla's ship, which would explain the blast mark being huge, than the R5 in ANH.
You can clearly see that the R5 in ANH did not have that blast mark.

I deeply hope that this is released in Saga, or a more correct version.

What do ya think, Kris?

Good points you guys have mentioned.I was really looking forward to these but I am disappointed this is what shows up.Besides the fact of maybe not being on POTJ cards the figures are not all that great IMO.

Of the bunch I look forward to R5-D4 the most despite the uncalled for blast mark. Not real sure what to think of the bird thing and the rehash gets a thumbs down.

I'll still have to get them though to make the set complete.:P

I guess it all depends on how you look at it.

R5D4 is hands down a perfect facsimile of the R5D4 at Star Tours, as are the other two droids. I guess I can understand if you don't like what they are based on anyway though. But strictly from a Star Tours figure point of view, these are all right on the money, and are the spitting image of their counterparts from Star Tours. Other than the Star Wars theme, none of these droids actually have bases in the movies (except R2 and 3PO), and actually, Star Tours has never named any of their droids (the closest are the G droids, since they have the serial number on their head which inspired the name). The only problem I have with them is that they aren't named differently (specifically R5D4 and R4M9 which differ from their movie counterpart namesakes).

Edit: According to the Star Wars website, R5D4 does have a background story which supposedly reveals his past, etc. So I guess it does have a basis in the movie, although I've been told by many people at Star Tours Disney World that these werent designed to try and be characters from the movies (aside from C3PO and R2D2).

Yes, that's definitely true Adam, and something to keep in mind when reviewing these figures.  That said though, I think a bird is still a bird and a rehash is still a rehash unfortunately...  I've never actually seen that bird myself, despite having been on the Star Tours ride a good 50+ times, I'm sure.  Just a poor character choice IMO.  They had a pretty cool Gonk droid in the line area that would've been much cooler, and more "Star Warsy".

As for the R5, some folks know that the head of the droid in the ride is a bit different than the one in the movie, but the vast majority were probably really hoping this was going to turn out as a spot on match to the one in ANH, mostly due to the fact that everyone wants a resculpted, more accurate R5-D4 than that rocket launching one version from back in the day.   ::)  But Adam's right - this is NOT that droid, nor was it meant to be.

Hopefully Hasbro will still put out a nice ANH accurate R5-D4 at some point in the future, that we can scoop up by the truck load for customizing at a much cheaper price.  I think it'll happen eventually, since this one from Star Tours doesn't really qualify.  R5-D4 was initially scheduled to be in the POTJ line, but was replaced by the R4-M9 droid.  So it would seem to me that Hasbro's got that figure under consideration.  A simple repaint and a new head for the ST version might just do the trick for them, when they finally get around to it.  Here's to hoping anyways...   :)

Im confident that Hasbro will hear the fans and give us a true R5D4 (Hey, I want one too! :) ) Like you said, it wouldnt take a lot of work.

Is the scoring -just- paint, or is their molded damage? It's so black I cant tell. In the Star Tours droid there is a big gaping hole where some of his panels were removed.

As far as the skeezee bird, while I like it, I do admit it would have been one of my last choices. If it were to be another droid, the gonk would have been great. There are a few other droids as well; I would have even prefered the red version of the R2 unit already made.

I cant speak for any other locations, but I do know that the skeezee bird is at Star Tours in MGM Florida (or at least the last time I visited which was about a year ago). He sits at the top of a doorway, out of easy view, and bows back and forth. Because of his being a bird originally, he still has the programmed bird movements (but no sqwaking). He was placed atop a doorway (or entryway, whatever you want to call it) as a subtle reference to other birds in Disney rides that sit looking over the ride entrance (The Tiki Room (when it still existed), Pirates of the Caribbean and The Haunted Mansion also all have "guard" birds, as well as a lot of other rides).

Also, according to some older Disney collectibles magazines as well as some conversations with Disney product purchasers, not only is this line supposed to be carded on the blue Saga cards, but also Series 1 and 2 are due to be recarded. The recarding is still up in the air though. Ultimately, they want their displays to match and think green and blue cards are going to throw off the casual customer, thus they want to take everything over to blue (which ties it to Star Wars right now)

Im really hoping they decide to continue the line. They have a lot of good Star Tours and Star Wars characters to make. They could make Mon Calamari figures, Ewoks and other aliens, Chewie, R2, 3PO and most importantly, Teek! :) Probably the only chance we'd ever have at getting an Ewoks movie figure

Oh dear Lord, I hope you're not right there Adam.   :o  That's a painful punch to absorb to any carded collector completists out there, considering they've already snagged the first 6 on the POTJ cardback for nearly $11 a pop.  Ideally, they just stick with POTJ cards through wave 3 so everything matches.  End of story.

But I suppose if they did want to consider adding further waves of new ST figures into the line, then the Saga cardback would be the only way to go.  I suppose it wouldn't be too difficult to recall all the current ST figures, rip 'em all open, and slap the figures on new Saga cards.  Well, since the loose figure pix have finally been released, the carded pictures shouldn't be too far down the line.  We soon shall see...

ok as Star Tours expert:

these figs are to due in MAY, samewith the Star Wars Weekends

and Wave 3 wil be at Green cards (90 % sure) and a rerelease later on blue ones (new likenes, with Star Tours on the left), possible trough more places to buy them (possible Fan club) tough the blue cards are only MINOR rumours...

and if you use comon sense, they designed a special card for the Star Tours Line, why change it ???

But Adam's right - this is NOT that droid, nor was it meant to be.

Well, StarWars.com says :
Quote
R5-D4 is a down-on-his luck astromech that is first seen in A New Hope with an explosively faulty motivator. While he has gotten away from the Jawas, the carbon scoring on his shell reveals he's still working a hard existence. This edition of R5-D4, true to its theme park incarnation, features a unique head design.

So basically this is R5D4, except it has a new head design, and more scoring... I guess this would fall into the EU category.

Sorry Kris, but I ain't got no common sense!   :P   ;D  'Bout time you finally chimed in here!  We've been waiting on pins and needles for the opinion of the biggest ST fan out there on these things (which you still haven't really given us)!  But in regards to card changes, well - Hasbro does 'em all the time.  If the Star Tours line stays on green, that would give us 5 different cards just this year alone!   :o  But I hope you're right, and they just stick with the old POTJ green ones, as I'd greatly prefer the uniformity...

Good point Brad.  So R5 blew his motivator, and got a new noggin...  Interesting!  So kinda the same droid, but not really...   :-\

Well Im going to have to disagree with the blue cards being "minor rumors". I have talked to a couple of Disney execs very high up in the preverbial "food chain" of product purchasing, and they all had to say that it was very likely Series 3 would be on blue cards. Im not saying that means its guaranteed, but much more than just a minor rumor. Also, Tomarts Disneyana Collecting magazine has featured these toys and has also "confirmed" from their sources that Series 3 will be on blue cards. So please don't try to imply Im not using my common sense, because my common sense leads me to believe what Im told by reputable sources ;D

As for the Star Wars description of R5D4, I'll just jump on my highhorse again, and say that his Star Tours doppleganger wasn't originally -intended- to be based on his seeming movie counterpart, and while it seems that they are one in the same, he wasn't named as such until many years after he had been made. Although, I guess a lot of the characters even from the movie never really had names until their toy release, so its all a matter of semantics ;)

After looking at a few more reference pictures of R5-D4 from ANH, I've also noticed that the movie version has a number of blue and silver highlights throughout it's body, that the ST version is missing (to go along with the already noted differences in the head and "eyes").  And am I mistaken, or is the ST version colored red, whereas the ANH version is orange?  Check it out:

Despite that OS write up, the Star Tours R5 ain't the real R5-D4 to me.  Oh well...

That's great and all, but it doesn't specifically address the difference between the Star Tours droid and his supposed counterpart from the movie. Official answer once again? Disney did not intend to create any movie specific characters in the queue area for Star Tours, other than R2 and 3PO. You may fancy yourself an expert on things Star Tours, but that is the word from the folks that made it ;)

I like the representaion of the Star Tours droid, but I am disappointed in the non-movie head.  I only hope this means we will be getting a slightly retooled version somewhere down the line.  I think Hasbro finally caught on to the fact that we will buy pretty much every astromech under the rainbow so I think a retooled movie R5 is possible.

Another possibility is that the movie accuracy lies on the other side of this guys head

Somewhere I just read that this droid is actually called R5-DL

Of course, I just went to MGM for the first time in over 10 years and scored all the droids, I get home, and they announce Series 3...
D'oh!
Maybe I'll have to get on your list too, JediMac...
And having just been there, the R5 is a dead-on likeness to his StarTours counterpart, as is the bird droid.  I like 'em.
So, apparently the bird droids are not in Cali but are in FLA.  I'm just wondering about this Gonk that's been mentioned.  Where is he?  Or is he a Cali exclusive?  I don't remember seeing him at MGM.  Heck I don't remember seeing that service droid either....

Well, regardless of how I feel, I will still get (try to get) the R5 figure.  I haven't been overly impressed and have yet to buy one figure (or found a way to, other than paying over the already overpriced figure on ebay).   Mac, when these come out, any chance you could hook me up with a few of the 9 different figures?  I'm sure we'll eventually get a "real" R5-D4 eventually, but this will do until then.

I'm back from my trip to pairs ;)

and I went oon star tours 8 TIMES !!!!

I think a new world record  ;D

some older and newer SAGA figs, but 13.99 each, and there where a LOT of EPIC FORCE C-3PO's (for 12.99) and some UGLY POTF II 12" Chewies and also Slave Leia's. There was also a T-Shirt With hte Star Wars LOGO on it at the front, and at the back the tittle scrol for ANH. Also a lot of LOTR: TTT figures....

it was my original plan, but the only solution would be using the digital cam of a teacher that traveled with us.. (tough, it wasn't a school event)

but I asked a friend that goes almoast every week to DLRP, to take pictures of some certain droids :)

Alright, hopefully this doesn't get too wildly out of control here, but I'd like to put my "sign up" sheet for the third wave of Star Tours here so I don't lose track of who I'm supposed to be buying the last 3 droids for.

For those of you who don't know, I live about an hour away from Disneyland and pass right by it every 3 weeks or so when I go down to visit my family in Orange County.  Since I can duck into the park on a one hour shopping pass for free, I've been hooking up folks with the ST droids for the price they retail for in the park there which is $10.77 ($10 + 7.75% tax) plus shipping.  So anyone interested in the final wave please LMK and I'll see what I can do.  It'll likely run you about $37-39 bucks with shipping (U.S. and Canada).  I'll only charge exact shipping of course.

One problem I've run into with the first couple waves is with nice MINT cards.  Seems a card bender runs loose in the park there, so it tends to be tougher to find some nice C-9 to C-10 stuff for you "pickier" folks, which just means it might take a little more time.  Anyways, here's the list that I can think of off the top of my head so far (in order of those who contacted me first about it):

dustrho - MOMC
DSJ - MOMC
CyberScout - MOMC
chuckles - MOMC
obi-dad - R4-M9, R3-D3 & R5-D4 (non-mint)
OCB - two R5-D4's (non-mint)
Jesse James - (non-mint I assume, LMK J!)

I think there were a couple others I may be forgetting here.  If so, please drop me a line and remind me.  Thanks!

Also, JD member Karma is my Floridian counterpart in Operation Star Tours Liberation, as she is quite proficient at hitting DisneyWorld out on the other coast and helping folks out as well.  Feel free to drop her a line too if you'd like at magnussk@erau.edu.  Pretty sure Morgbug's already on her sign up list - right B?

Okee doke.  Added you Scott.  No bulk discounts unfortunately...  You sure you want that many though?  You just know they'll be pumping out an R5 droid in the Saga line in the not so distant future that you'll proably be able to get much cheaper on a standard card (for your customs and extras).  Up to you though!   :-*  Still a little while to decide...

Well I don't know what I am in for.  My parents are on vacation and went to DisneyWorld this week.  They will be home in a few days.  I really did not have much interest in this line.  However, I figure what the heck they are there they may as well buy them for me.  I don't think the R5 wave is there.  I am kind of surprised they have not made the actual vehicle from the ride.  What the heck is Captain Rex going to do out of the package?
Title: Re: Star Tours wave 3 FINALLY!
Post by: JediMAC on May 7, 2003, 10:41 PM
Well, they're not bad little droids really, as far as EU goes, and several of the astromechs blend in pretty well with the regular SW figures of course.  Plus, you can add these bad boys into that droid lineup that I know you'll be putting in front of your brand new Sandcrawler vehicle (for Uncle Owen) next year!

The thing that bites with these figures of course, is the hefty price tag of $10 a piece that Disney puts on them.  Find someone with a Disney employee connection and the respective 35% discount that comes with it, and they're a little more reasonable (something I'm still working on actually)...

Just LMK if you'd like Wave 3 which should be out in the next month or two DB, and I'll add you to the list...

Yeah, I would go as far as to say that two of the droids are some of the best "droid" figures ever made by Hasbro, and definately good for EU.

The one droid, a little "box" looking thing with a welding arm is especially well detailed.  Not overly complex, and definately not a $10 item, but he blends in seamlessly in the Star Wars world.

He's got that campy "Cheap" feel that the original movie had...  He reminds me of the Gonk droids...  Simple, but effective and believeable.

The other droid I love is a rust colored droid (Sorry for no names here, I go by their looks for recollection).  The rust droid has a ball/socket head, GREAT detailing, and the sculpting puts almost every Saga figure to shame amazingly.

You'd be absolutely amazed at the level of detail on this guy, and he looks like a VERY believeable Star Wars droid with some heavy industrial type job.  Think ASP-7 with 10x the detail and thought.

The droids that are stripped down animatronic creatures from the park are neat too in a way, and hold a unique spot.

The price and availability are the main drawbacks to the figures...  And their R3 unit isn't as good as R3-T7 was (he's the non-poseable POTJ R2 body).  The R4 unit found a happy home in my Rebel Astromech pool though, and the rest reside in Jabba's droid torture chamber.

You're at the very tip top of my list there Chris, how the hell could I forget about you?!  :D  Interesting to hear Disney's already got these in stock.  I'm assuming they're holding on to them to release them during Star Wars weekends, which is sometime real soon...  (don't recall off the top of my head).  But I don't know what that means for my local Disneyland's stash, since they're not really participating in the Star Wars Weekends festivities.  I'll be sure to find out when there's come in though...  No worries Mr. C-10!   :-*

BTW, if you're not able to hook up with someone for these figures, try Disney Delivers.  Their phone number is 1(407)363-6200.

Well, this is a decent idea for "openers", but if you're looking for MOMC, don't even bother with Disney Delivers.  I ordered Wave 1 from them, and they just threw my 6 figures loose in a box, with one tiny plastic Disney bag to take up the remaining space on the side.  They cards were THRASHED.  I've heard similar stories from almost everyone else who ordered through Disney as well.  But like I said, for the openers out there, this method should work fine...

But myself and Karma are always around for anyone interested in using another route...   :)  So it looks like maybe next weekend then, assuming Disneyland puts theirs out to coincide with DisneyWorld's Star Wars Weekends festivities.  I'll be on the lookout folks!

Quite true!  I ordered two sets of waves1 & 2; one to open, and one to keep MOMC.  I was disappointed with the shipping.  All of the figures were tossed into a plastic bag randomly, and then put into a box stuffed with packing material.  The cards in most cases were bent.  I opened the worst of the bunch.  Four of the remaining carded samples were in excellent shape.  Another two were bent, but not creased.  I was able to work the bends out by keeping those in Star Cases.

So, it's caveat emptor for you carded folks!

The parents came back from their trip to DisneyWorld with the first 6 figures in tow.  They seemed like good cards to me.  Anyway I liked them for the most part.  Although this trashcan figure thing I got is kind of lame.  LOL!

Reports are starting to trickle in around the net that the first 2 Star Tours droids in Wave 3 have been released at DisneyWorld and via the Disney Delivers mail order phone line (1-800-362-4533): the G2-9T and R5-D4.  No SK-Z38 yet though...  But get this, our fears have come true:

They're on BLUE Saga cards!!!   >:(  >:(

Ugh.  As many of you may speculate now, this very well might lead to the rest of the previous 6 droids getting the same Saga carded treatment as well!  Oh dear...  Carded completists are shaking in their boots as we speak!   :'(

No word if Disneyland has gotten in a shipment yet, but I'll try to find out for everybody ASAP.

The Starspeeder 3000 has also been released, and as anticipated, it's not in a 4" scale at all.  More like the Action Fleet size...

Happy droid hunting everyone, or I guess that would really come down to me for a lot of you, huh?!   ;)  I'll see what I can do!

They're on BLUE Saga cards!!!

This was expected though, wasn't it? The first wave was on POTJ Collection 1 cards, the second on POTJ Collection 2 cards. Since there weren't any Collection 3 cards in the POTJ line, I just assumed Hasbro would offer this last batch on the Saga card as a point of difference.

However, given the unique venue of these figures, I see no reason why Hasbro would create new card art for the first six figures. It would be an unnecessary added expense unless they create one card for all nine figures.

I called the Florida number you provided, MAC.  They told me that while the figures are available at the parks, they don't think they're going to have them available for mail order until June 16th.  I believe that's when Star Wars weekends end.

The operator I spoke with at the Disneyland service in California told me that they didn't even have them available at their park in Anaheim, let alone for mail-order.

Looks like an in-person visit or someone who can visit for you is the only immediate hook-up for STAR TOURS wave 3.

They're on BLUE Saga cards!!!

This was expected though, wasn't it?

Well, I wouldn't say it was ever really for sure John.  The first 6 droids came on POTJ cards, even though the Saga line was already out, so there was some hope that that wouldn't change with this wave either.  The Saga switch has been rumored, but then again, so has sticking with the original green (POTJ) card though.  A lot of folks have been debating back and forth on which it would be, and which it should be.  But the general consensus as far as what most people actually wanted - was to stick with the green POTJ cardback, just to keep the whole line uniform.  If the line ends at 9 figures total, I'll really wish they could've just stayed similarly styled myself.  Just the OCD in me really, but I like everything to match, especially in such a small collecting subset like this.  Oh well...   :-\

But if Disney was smart (hopefully they're NOT reading this), they'd pull a lot of their older peg warming droids currently on green cards and recard them onto the Saga card as well (especially since the remaining droids are mostly on completely THRASHED POTJ cards at this point).  Easy money from the carded completists, like me.   :-[  (wouldn't affect my loose collection though fortunately)

And if the Saga re-carding does indeed transpire, I know there'll be a lot of gripes from said carded completists, but keep in mind everyone - it's US who choose to collect this way, so if we have to bite the bullet and shell out another $75 to get the original 6 droids on new Saga cards, then we've got nobody to blame but ourselves...  It's just the nature of the collecting beast!   ;)

BTW FX-7, I buy these at Disneyland for $10.77 retail each (that includes tax) for those who are interested.  But judging from what Nicklab just said, it sounds like my local Disneyland ain't got squat in yet.  I'll try to confirm that though.

But I'm surprised to hear that the Disney Delivers mail order line isn't taking any orders, since GH reported this morning that they definitely were...   ???  Maybe they sold out, I dunno...  But keep in mind that DD is primarily for the "loose" collectors, as a couple of us already mentioned earlier in this thread.  Very little MOMC stuff makes it's way out from them...

If I recall correctly, this is rather similar to what happened the first time around, when the initial 2 Star Tours droids were first available.  People were getting all kinds of different stories from DD on whether or not they could order the figures from them, when they'd be in, when they'd be delivered, etc...  It was a real big fiasco actually!  I think it's one of those situations where it all depends on who you talk to - some people are in the know and are understanding the situation and product, and other telephone operators are just absolutely clueless...  No idea, but it sure seems pretty chaotic and disorganized at DD.

Guess they've never dealt with the rabidness of the average Star Wars collector before!   :D

Oy...  Hey everybody (on my pre-order list), it just dawned on me that if the SK-Z38 (bird) droid is indeed not going to be included in the initial Wave 3 assortments for a little while, whereas the G2 and R5 droids are being released earlier (as in NOW), you all need to let me know if you'd like for me to hold off on shipping your figures 'til I can get all THREE of them, or if you'd rather have TWO now, and have me send another ONE later on (boy, that was a helluva run-on sentence).

It's a difference of about $4.50 in shipping really, but I know some of you prefer consolidated shipping to save a little coin, so shoot me a PM, e-mail, or reply here to LMK what you'd like me to do if I'm only able to get the first 2 droids for a while!  Thanks!   :-*

How long do you think it will be before Hasbro releases that bird figure?  If it's over a span of a couple months than I want you to just ship my two figs right away.  If it's less than one month than I can easily wait for all three to ship out together.

I don't know if I'm all that thrilled about them being on blue cards.  These figs will not look right on a person's wall with the POTJ carded Star Tour figures.  Six figs will be green, three will be blue... With the carded images of the first two droids finally surfacing (see main page), we can finally put one of our debates to rest regarding why (or how) R5-D4 is in this line.  The answer is:  HE'S NOT (assuming droids are a "he").  Disney has apparently decided to change this droid's name to R5-D2.  Glad to see it actually.  I'd rather keep the ST droid line here as "EU", and not have them intermingling in any way with the droids we actually saw on the screen in the Saga.

Also, I'm copying the droid order list of all you guys I'm going to be buying these figures for, from back on page 2 in this thread right here.  Mike, I already had you on there buddy!   ;)

dustrho - Wave 3 MOMC, Starspeeder 3000 MOMC
DSJ - Wave 3 MOMC  (ship all together)
CyberScout - Wave 3 MOMC, plus (maybe) a Starspeeder  (ship all together)
chuckles - Wave 3 MOMC, Starspeeder MOMC
obi-dad - R4-M9, R3-D3 & R5-D2 (non-mint)
OCB - two R5-D2's (non-mint)
Jesse James - Wave 3 + 1 extra R5-D2 (all non-mint)
BigDumbWookiee - 2 sets of Wave 3 (1 MOMC, 1 non-mint), 2 Starspeeder 3000's  (ship all together)
CHEWIE - two R5-D2's (1 MOMC, 1 non-mint)
Boba Binks - 2 sets of Wave 3 (1 MOMC, 1 non-mint), 1 Starspeeder 3000  (ship all together)
Membraneman - two R5-D2's (1 MOMC, 1 non-mint)
Daigo-Bah - R3-D3 & R5-D2 (pref. MOMC)

And Mike, the Starspeeder 3000 is going for $20.  But as a reminder, it's not in scale with the 4" line though - more like Action Fleet - if that matters at all...

Not too late at all CHEWIE!  Disneyland (where I get them) doesn't even have them out here yet, so you haven't missed anything...  So two R5-D2s for you, right?  Is card condition an issue at all for you, or will you be opening both up (as I assume)?  For two figures, it'll cost $20 + $1.55 tax + about $4-5 for shipping.  So about $26.  Cool?  Hopefully Disneyland will have some stock in this upcoming weekend when I head down there.  I'll keep ya' posted!

Hi J-Mac!  Do I still have time to jump in?...

...Are people sending you money yet, or are we reimbursing you?

No worries Greg!  Added ya' in there!  There isn't really a "too late" here, since I tend to meander down to Disneyland every few weeks.  So even if I don't hook some folks up on my first trip or two, or people sign up "late", I'll be going back there over and over so anyone can join in on the fracass any time they like!  Besides, Disneyland hasn't even stocked up on these things yet, so I'm still in a holding pattern myself...   :-\

As for the money, don't sweat it until I've actually got the goodies in hand, or better yet - until you receive them from me (unless an interested party has no prior trading feedback and I don't know them at all - which doesn't really apply to anyone on my list so far).

Not only are they on blue cards, but the supposed R5D4 is now R5D2 :)

Im actually very happy they changed the name to R5D2, seeing how that little fella at the ride isn't R5D4 (and was never intended to be :) )

Nah, I wont be smug about it. Im just very happy that we are getting the rest of these! I really hope/wish they continue this line. I want a freaking Teek dangit!

Yes, you may Adam.  Your fortune telling skills have earned you the right to give us a big, fat "I told ya' so!"  Glad you were right about the R5 name change, but sorry to see you were also correct in the carding of Wave 3 on blue Saga cards...

If I had that kind of forsight, I'd be rich! :) lol

I really wish they'd release more figures after these, there are still possibilities for at least one more series. Mon Calamari, Teek, and various other aliens in the safety video.

The same people that told me Series 3 would be on blue cards also said Series 1 and 2 would be recarded. And I mean recarded, not just changing production, but taking the green carded ones off the shelves, opening them and putting them on blue cards. Dont know how true that is, but their batting a thousand right now! :) It makes sense  from a sales standpoint, because all of the products will match, new interest will be created, and people like us will buy them becaue they are on new cards lol

There is also talk of redoing the ride, and I guess new ride videos exist, but they've been talking about a change like that for years now and nothing has happened

:'(  Update from the Star Traders shop at Disneyland:   :'(
Well, I swung by Disneyland on Sunday night, and unfortunately have NO NEWS to report.  They still haven't received Wave 3 of the Star Tours Droids or the Starspeeder 3000.  I asked the cashier about them and pointed out that DisneyWorld received them a week and a half ago.  She didn't seem terribly knowledgeable, but suggested that if DW got theirs already, than D'land shouldn't be too far behind (as in probably coming soon).

I did pick up a few of the older figures that Greg and Pat were looking for though.  The shop also had a peg full of the Mynock Chewie, Flying R2, and TC Mace, along with one Hoth Han (all $10 apiece though, just like the droids).

Sorry fellas!  I'll keep checking though...   :-\

Here's the updated list of needs (along with some non ST stuff I'm including for a few folks):

dustrho - Wave 3 MOMC, Starspeeder 3000 MIMB
DSJ - Wave 3 MOMC, Deluxe Clonetrooper, shaved Endor Soldier  (ship all together)
CyberScout - Wave 3 MOMC  (ship all together)
chuckles - Wave 3 MOMC, Starspeeder MIMB
obi-dad - R4-M9, R3-D3 & R5-D2 (non-mint)
OCB - two R5-D2's (non-mint), Torii Hunter Sportspick variant
Jesse James - Wave 3 + 1 extra R5-D2, Nexu (all non-mint) ship altogether
BigDumbWookiee - Wave 3 (non-mint), Starspeeder 3000, Dlx. Spider Droid & SBD Builder - both openers  (ship all together)
CHEWIE - two R5-D2's (1 MOMC, 1 non-mint)
Boba Binks - 2 sets of Wave 3 (1 MOMC, 1 non-mint), 1 Starspeeder 3000  (ship all together)
Membraneman - R5-D2 (non-mint)

I have just been informed by a very nice individual that there will indeed be a new wave of all new droids, no resculpts, for the Star Tours line in 2004. Please stay tuned as I get more info, I will indeed pass it on.
so: Wave four is in the works and will be out in 2004, all new sculpts, all new droids. They are in development stage, which means still drawings.

Planet Action Figure has the Starspeeder 3000.  It's $35, but might be worth it to some.  Here's the listing page: http://planetactionfigure.com/default.php/cPath/21?osCsid=b2e422e3e7bb8508d51fbf0cd10a285f (http://planetactionfigure.com/default.php/cPath/21?osCsid=b2e422e3e7bb8508d51fbf0cd10a285f)

Tom (Darth Kenobi) swung by Disneyland's Star Traders shop today and reports (http://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php?board=7;action=display;threadid=296;start=60#msg15502) that there's still no Star Tours Wave 3 there yet unfortunately...

I might be heading back down this weekend, but if it sounds like they still don't have anything, I might wait 'til the following weekend after that.  I'll keep you all posted.  Hang in there - I'm sure these suckers will show up there eventually!   8)

I got my first two Wave 3 figures from Karma, and they were both on blue cards.

I just need one more to be complete now, since I'm not going back and buying the card variations.  :)

Karen hooked me up as well with all 8. :) Damn that girl sends mint stuff!

I was never into EU, but there is something about these Star Tours figures that really makes me like them. I guess it's that the series is so small it's easy to complete, and that it's all Droids.

Soo, what will we see in wave 4 ???

Assuming Wave 4 comes to fruition, as is now rumored, I'd have to say the Gonk/Power Droid should definitely be in the mix the next go 'round.  Kris, you know better than anyone else - who does that leave?  Obviously there the option of R2 and 3PO still.  I kind of like the idea that this whole line consists solely of droids, so I think I'd prefer to not see the Admiral Ackbar or other Calamari Officers done, as well as some of the characters in the training video, like Teek.  But I wouldn't be upset if they were though...

Heck, I wouldn't mind if they just started putting out some new astromechs with different paint schemes, even if they weren't present in the line/queue area - though I'd much rather Hasbro themselves take care of this instead!
Title: Re: Star Tours wave 3 FINALLY!
Post by: krisvds on June 7, 2003, 08:55 AM
All are new sculps, so I wouldn't think an Astromech, except if they did a R3-A2, but he is released in th Hoth Pack already  ::)

a GNK should be a possibility, with all new details and color, so that can count as a Special Droid, and what about repair droid ? maybe the one from Tokyo, that looks like the droid from Jabba's Palace..

Toughts ? :)

I just got my Starspeeder 3000 today.  Ordered it through Planet Action figure, and it doesn't disappoint.  While it's not nearly scale with the 3-3/4" line, it's still very cool.

A panel up top reveals the interior.  It's instrumental in getting Cap'd Rex into his command position.  There are also a couple of push-buttons on the aft side of this ship.  Each one  opens the hatches on it's respective side of the ship.  It also triggers lights in the interior.  Add on top of this, that it's got some cool sound effects, triggered by our favorite plucky Artoo unit, and I'm pretty happy with this ship.

Here's the updated list of needs (along with some non ST stuff I'm including for a few folks):

dustrho - Wave 3 MOMC, Starspeeder 3000 MIMB
DSJ - Wave 3 MOMC, Deluxe Clonetrooper, shaved Endor Soldier  (ship all together)
CyberScout - Wave 3 MOMC  (ship all together)
chuckles - Wave 3 MOMC, Starspeeder MIMB
obi-dad - R4-M9, R3-D3 & R5-D2 (non-mint)
OCB - two R5-D2's (non-mint), Torii Hunter Sportspick variant
Jesse James - Wave 3 + 1 extra R5-D2, Nexu (all non-mint) ship together
BigDumbWookiee - Wave 3 (non-mint), Starspeeder 3000, Dlx. Spider Droid & SBD Builder - non-mint  (ship all together)
CHEWIE - two R5-D2's (1 MOMC, 1 non-mint)
Boba Binks - 2 sets of Wave 3 (1 MOMC, 1 non-mint), 1 Starspeeder 3000  (ship all together)
Membraneman - R5-D2 (non-mint)
Daigo-Bah - R3-D3 & R5-D2 (pref. MOMC)

Sorry fellas, but I totally struck out again at Disneyland last night.  Still nothing new to report...  >:(  It was the same cashier I saw last time, and she still had no idea when the new stuff was coming in, though she still assumed that it would be sometime soon.  I'll be heading back down in another week and a half, or sooner if I hear that Wave 3 has finally hit, so I'll be sure to keep you all apprised of the goings on!  The Star Traders shop did have a lot of the Hoth Han, Mynock Chewie, Flying R2, and TC Mace figures though - all $10/each.

Adam, I changed your Starspeeder order down to 1 per your request.  Scott, LMK about that Torii variant.  Sounds like you recently found one on your own, so LMK if Brent or anyone else you know up there still wants it.  If not, I can easily just return it to WM...

And for anyone who's fed up with waiting for Disneyland to finally stock it's Wave 3 droids, and doesn't want to wait any longer, like I mentioned a couple times earlier in this thread, JD member Karma lives out in Florida, and hits DisneyWorld a fair amount out there, and could probably hook you guys up now if you'd like.  I know she's already helped a few other members out here with their droids, and she comes highly recommended by anyone who's ever dealt with her.

So if you're tired of the wait, feel free to contact her to see if she can help you out sooner than I can, since DW is the only place in the world currently stocking these elusive figures.  I won't be offended in the slightest bit if anyone backs out of their pre-order with me in favor of dealing with Karen who can get the goods right now.  Just LMK if you decide to go that route so I can change your order above...   ;)
- M

P.S.  Josh, they have tons of the Hasbro Stormtrooper blasters, and they're $20 a piece.  LMK if you want one...

Let me say that Saturday afternoon I got to mess with the R5 droid from Wave 3, and it's awesome.

It's not like R5-D4 in the slightest, so those of you wanting an R5-D4 (or thinking it'll pass as him) aren't in luck.  His head's different, but he has an intensely huge GASH in his left body.

Talking REALLY heavy damage...

It looks great though.  I swear, it's one of the neatest sculpts on a SW figure I've ever seen.  He's got a retractable 3rd leg to boot!  WHEEEE!

He's going right into my Rebel Pilots group when I get him (Thanks Matt), and will look just dandy.

I could take repaint after repaint of this figure if they wanted to, along with a new R5-D4.  Would give some extra diversity to the astro ranks for sure.

It's a shame Hasbro can't do this well on all their figures...  I didn't wanna give the lil bugger up after checking him out in person at our local get together of collectors, but alas I had to.  Not after a good fight though! :)

Matt, that really sucks that Disneyland hasn't gotten anything at all yet.  I just don't understand why they're not getting anything, but Disneyworld is.  Doesn't make any sense to me at all.  I'm really in no rush to get these figures & speeder, so I will just wait for you to hook me up once they come in (if it's still cool with you).  Thanks Matt!

Another update from the Happiest Place on Earth:

Swung by Disneyland today, and guess what?  Yeah...  No wave 3 of the Star Tours droids in still.  BUT...  They did finally get the Starspeeder 3000 in, so I snagged a bunch of those to fill the orders on them.  So at least that's a start, huh?!   :D  Hopefully that's a good sign that Wave 3 is coming soon.  So anyways, the Starspeeders are in the bag for the 4 of you who ordered them!  Heading back down next weekend, so I'll update you all again at that time.

Unfortunately, the Star Traders shop stashed all their Stormtrooper guns in the back for a couple months, for reasons unknown, so we're SOL on those for now Josh...   :-\  They're supposedly putting them back out in August, if you want to wait that long.  Up to you (Karen may be able to help sooner on them if need be).  Just LMK...

Same time, same place next week...   ;)

What "Stormtrooper guns" are you actually talking about Matt?  Is this something new that Disney has and no one else does?

And Matt, thank you VERY much for getting that Speeder for me.  I really do appreciate it.   ;D

No worries Chris, these are the older Hasbro roleplaying guns from like 5 years ago - the white ones.  Came out at the same time as that orange Han Solo blaster.  Josh and some of his fellow 501st guys need a few of these (to customize) for their Stormtrooper costumes, and D'land had a ton of 'em sitting around all these years later for some odd reason...  Unfortunately, after Josh finally gave me the green light to snag some...  ***poof!***  The damned things completely disappeared!   >:(

Guess what everybody...???!!!   8)   ;D   8)

Yep, Star Tours Wave 3 has finally arrived at Disneyland!!!  'Bout freaking time!!!  Thanks to David over at GH for the head's up on their long awaited arrival.

But there's a slight catch, since they just came in yesterday, I don't have them yet!  But I'll see if I can drive the hour down there some time in the next few nights to snag my massive allotment for everyone.  If I can't, then I'll just pick them up on Thursday or Friday on my way down to the San Diego Comic Convention.  Keep an eye on this thread for any updates!  So before I head down, would everyone kindly chime in to confirm their orders here (or via PM/e-mail).  As a reminder, they're $10.77 retail each (which includes the sales tax).  Please check my list below to see where everything currently stands.  Items that are crossed off have already been bought a while back, and have been patiently awaiting departure with the Wave 3 droids...

dustrho - Wave 3 MOMC, Starspeeder 3000 MIMB
DSJ - Wave 3 MOMC, Deluxe Clonetrooper, shaved Endor Soldier  (ship all together)
CyberScout - Wave 3 MOMC  (ship all together)
chuckles - Wave 3 MOMC, Starspeeder MIMB
obi-dad - R4-M9, R3-D3 & R5-D2 (non-mint)
OCB - two R5-D2's (non-mint), Torii Hunter Sportspick variant
Jesse James - Wave 3 + 1 extra R5-D2, Nexu (all non-mint) ship altogether
BigDumbWookiee - Wave 3 (non-mint), Starspeeder 3000, Dlx. Spider Droid & SBD Builder - both openers  (ship all together)
CHEWIE - two R5-D2's (1 MOMC, 1 non-mint)
Boba Binks - 2 sets of Wave 3 (1 MOMC, 1 non-mint), 1 Starspeeder 3000  (ship all together)
Membraneman - R5-D2 (non-mint), 12" Yellow Clonetrooper
Daigo-Bah - R3-D3 & R5-D2 (pref. MOMC)

If everybody would please PM/e-mail me your mailing addresses as well, that would be great, even you guys who I've already traded with before, just so I don't have to search through my old (200+) PMs!  (really need to clean those things out  :P).  Better cross your fingers MOMC guys!  Hopefully the card conditions aren't as bad as the last couple waves were...    ;)

If there's anyone else out there who hasn't contacted me yet, but wants to get in on the Star Tours action as well, drop me a line and I'll see what I can do for ya'!

Hey Matt, what's the stock like on the older astromechs, R3-D3 and R4-M9?  Being an astromech fan, I'd like to pick these up, along with the new R5-D2, but I can't really afford the $40 right now.

If they're in danger of selling out pretty soon, I'll see what I can do to scrounge up some cash.  Unless, of course, you think they'll be around for a while. . .

Thanks.

I can't say entirely for sure what the Star Traders shop stock looks like right now, since they just finally stocked the Wave 3 droids.  They might've pulled all the prior peg warmers (incl. R3 & R4) to make room for this new stuff.  I'll know better after I visit in the next few days...

But with that said, prior to them stocking Wave 3 (and very possibly still right now), there were TONS of the first two astromechs hanging around for all of the past year.  There's been no problem whatsoever attaining either of those, especially if you're not looking for mint cards!  I'd assume at least some of them would still be there, but it's possible they got pulled to get recarded onto the blue Saga cards, in which case they'd all be back in the near future.  The bottom line is that you should be fine Virex - there were plenty of extras before, so there should still be plenty - if not right now, then very soon...

No idea how well the new R5-D2 will sell, but judging by my pre-orders here, he'll be pretty hot.  I'm sure there'll probably be plenty to go around, just like the prior ones, but I obviously can't promise that...

Just give me a holler whenever you feel like picking them up...

Great.  Thanks for the offer and the info, Matt.  Let me know what you find when you next head out there, huh?  :)  (Oh, and card condition doesn't matter to me, as I'll be opening them up anyway.)

Thanks again.

[Oh, and by the way, the widescreen Special Edition of Christmas Vacation was just announced the other day for October 7th.  So, with the new Vacation 20th Anniversary Special Edition (widescreen) hitting on August 26, that leaves just Vegas Vacation as the only non-widescreen Vacation movie out there (and that's supposed to be coming sooner or later).]

Well, I hauled my booty down to Disneyland tonight.  Got in there just a half hour before closing time!  Jammed straight into the Star Traders shop, and stopped dead in my tracks when I saw nothing but the previous 2 waves of POTJ carded droids, right where they usually are (plenty of yours still, Virex).   I was momentarily PISSED after the apparently fruitless hour long drive...

BUT... then I walked around to the other side of the shop and WALLAH!  Wave 3 all stocked up on the endcap!   8)  I quickly started my droid hoarding for the JD masses here of course, but soon discovered that I wasn't seeing too much in the way of MOMC stuff.  Pretty jacked up cards, as usual there.  But I pretty much cleaned them out anyways - 34 figures in all!  Left them no more R5s, and just a few of the other two.  Had more than a few onlookers and inquirers, including a 5 year old girl asking me "Are you really going to buy all of those?"...   :)  Even took my loot up to the cashier in 3 separate waves to ring up!   :P

My biggest fear was that someone was going to think I was an eBay scalper or something, so whenever people started staring or asking me questions, I showed them my Star Tours sign-up list that I printed out from here in the forums (which I needed to figure out what all I was buying), saying "See, these are all my buddies that need this stuff that I'm sending it all to since they don't live around here!"   :o  They all seemed to believe me fortunately...

So anyways, I've got some stuff, but not all of it for everybody quite yet.   :-\  I've gotta sort through it all now to see who's going to get what based on their orders.  Since I'm cutting out of town for the San Diego Comic Con early Thursday, I might not even have a chance to get this stuff out this week.  But I'll keep you all posted on that.  Now all I've got to do is find some decent packing materials, which I'm nearly out of right now...

I'll be hitting Disneyland again on Thursday on my way down to San Diego (and maybe again on the way back up on Sunday), so hopefully they'll have restocked by then, and I can get the rest of the MOMC orders filled for you guys!  Anyways, gonna start my "sorting" now, so I'll be in touch...

BTW, I always ship with Delivery Confirmation, but if any of you also want insurance on your packages, please let me know (and for what amount) and I'll be sure to add it...

Dale, Bob...  Should I ship up to Canada right now, or hold off for a little while due to the looming postal strike?  LMK...   :-*

Good news and bad news fellas...

First, the bad news (it ain't really all that bad).  I won't be able to ship out 'til early next week.  Just too busy the last few days at the office trying to finish up several projects before I departed for a few days down in San Diego for the Comic Con.  So I'll start getting your packages shipped out on Monday and Tuesday, when I get back in town.  I promise!   :-*

Now, the good news.  I swung by Disneyland again this afternoon on my way down to San Diego, and I'm happy to say that they restocked all of their Wave 3 droids after I looted them clean on Tuesday night!  And the even better news is that they actually had some decent MOMC stuff for once, so I snagged my fill and I'm pretty sure that I'm all set now, and have enough to fill EVERYONE'S orders!

So hopefully by the end of next week, everyone (except the 2 Canuckleheads) should have their Star Tours droids in their possession!  We're almost there folks!   8)

Alright folks, just a quick update on the Star Tours droids...  I've shipped almost all of them out to you guys now - about half yesterday, and another half today, with a few stragglers left to go at this point!  I'll shoot each of you an e-mail or PM shortly with the final damage, including shipping, and your Delivery Confirmation numbers.  So keep an eye out for them in the next few days!  Please drop me a line when they've arrived, and LMK how everything looks.  If there's anything not up to snuff, we can discuss it and try to work something out.  And I'm really sorry about the damned expensive shipping charges on some of these!  Aside for the $.45 Delivery Confirmation fee, there's just not anything I could do about it, as I used the best fitting boxes I could find so as to well protect your stuff, but still keep the shipping charges to a "minimum".    :-\

So here's what the final list looked like, as far as what all is being shipped.  Give me a holler if there's any discrepancies!

dustrho - Wave 3 MOMC, Starspeeder 3000 MIMSB
DSJ - Wave 3 MOMC, Deluxe Clonetrooper, shaved Endor Soldier
CyberScout - Wave 3 MOMC
chuckles - Wave 3 MOMC, Starspeeder 3000 MIMSB

From a different thread:
(And, if you'll remember, I did post here a few weeks ago, asking you about the Star Tours figures. . .)

(11 weeks earlier, right here...)
Great.  Thanks for the offer and the info, Matt.  Let me know what you find when you next head out there, huh?  :)  (Oh, and card condition doesn't matter to me, as I'll be opening them up anyway.)

Thanks again.

D'oh!  Totally brainfarted on that Matt...  Sorry!   :-[  Just went down there yesterday for the first time in almost two months, and my senile ol' brain forgot to drop you a line first about it.  All 9 droids are still there in abundance, so give me a shout if you want me to snag any of 'em for you on my next trip down.  They're still $10.77 each with tax...

Or... if you do want some, you could just have my "openers" which I've yet to open, and I can just snag me some more on my next visit there.  LMK!   :-*

Anyone else need any of the Star Tours droids?  The MOMC ones are slim pickin's, but I usually manage to scrape up a few of them after searching through their whole stash.

I guess the same goes for the Indiana Jones figures too, though I haven't looked for those yet, so I'm not sure what the availability (or price) is on those right now since they're still pretty new...

I split the Indiana Jones figure discussion off from this thread, and over into the Other Toy Lines forum where I merged it with Sharon's previous thread on the topic right here (http://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php?board=36;action=display;threadid=2432).  So jam on over there if you want to discuss or request some of these figures...  :-*

Hey, no big deal, man.  And, actually, my sister and her family are headed to Disney World next month and she told me they'd look for them for me.  On top of that, I can't afford them right now, anyway.  But--it's cool, and I'll definitely let you know if they don't come through for me next month for whatever reason.

But also, I caught a blurb at Rebelscum's main page today about some site having the Star Tours figures for $5.99 each.  Lemme see:

Quote
News from PlanetActionFigure.com
Ben: PlanetActionFigure.com writes: "We have in stock . . . the Star Tours figures priced at $5.99 each.

Sure enough. . .

Star Tours figures at Planet Action Figure (http://planetactionfigure.com/advanced_search_result.php?osCsid=103d6646772dc59a25a0734ed0d84cba&keywords=star+tours&search_in_description=1)

At the link, they have "Card Not Mint" versions of DL-X2, R4-M9, and WEG-1618 for $5.99 each.

Looks like that's all the Star Tours figs they've got right now--but that's not bad if  you're looking for some cheap openers.

Thanks again, Matt.

Oy!  I just picked up a few of those same figures for some fellas yesterday...   :-\  But they were looking for C-9+ MOMC stuff, so I guess it wasn't a total loss.  But yeah, that's certainly a better alternative for the loose collectors who might be looking for those figures, for sure!  Disney's $10 asking price definitely sucks!

You know, I just wanted to update this thread, for no apparent reason at all, other than to make my mandatory non-Watto's Junkyard appearance for the month:

Well, the fam came through, and hooked me up with the three astromech droids a couple of weeks ago, which I promptly opened up and have displayed in my modest astromech collection.

Now, for a mini-review:

While I'm of the thought that the more droids, the merrier, these three left me with kind of a lukewarm feeling.  For what they are, they're fine, I guess.  I would have preferred that the R3-unit was in the R2-Q5 sculpt, and not the Naboo Escape R2-D2.  The sculpt of the R4-unit is just okay--I actually like it better than the POTJ R4-M9 it came from, since the earlier figure, for me, has a really loose third leg.

However, the paint jobs of those two is way-too cartoony for my tastes, personally.  The R4-unit's turqoise/aqua-on-white is just too non-movie for me, and there's so much blue all over the R3-droid, that it just doesn't look right.  Mind you, I've never been on any of the Star Tours rides, so while I'm sure they look fairly similar to their ride counterparts, they just don't look movie-enough for me.

But then, there's the R5-D2.  And really, the only thing "wrong" with this figure, in my opinion, is that there's not a real R5-D4 resculpt out there, which, of course, isn't this figure's fault!  :)
I dig the R5-head sculpt, and the battle-damage on the body.  And, of course, the light-brown wash over the whole figure really gives it that whole "lived-in" look.  It looks like it could have been just off-screen, out of the camera's view, during the "purchase of the droids" scene from the first film.  Really nicely done, and it gives me hope that a certain other, bad-motivator-havin' R5-droid is in the works up in Rhode Island. . .

Anyway, thanks again, Matt. . .

You know where to find me if/when Wave 4 comes out...

Just read over at GH (http://www.galactichunter.com/absolutenm/templates/full_article_template_1.asp?articleid=2265&zoneid=2) tonight that this may indeed be happening now.  Looks like they dug up a couple early prototype pictures, one of which definitely looks like it's one of the Star Tours droids, but both of which look totally stupid to be honest.  I wonder if they'll have a third droid in this wave like the other three.  If they do, hopefully it'll have another neutral type of astromech like the R3, R4 and R5's in each of the other waves.  Not at all excited about these two, so I'll probably be passing on them.

If they come out I would like X2 of each.

Yeah, those really do look pretty lame.  They better at least spice it up with another astromech!  Ugh.  Not looking forward to "having to" add these ugly things to my collection.   :-\  Don't recall ever seeing either of those "droids" at the Disneyland Star Tours, so they must be from one of the other parks' rides...

Got your order there David (that was for me, right?)...  As we hear more info on these, feel free to give me a shout here for your Star Tours fix again everyone.   ;)

God, those look atrocious!  I had high hopes for the Star Tours line, and getting some cool looking droids out of it, but they've gone completely too far with some of these pieces of crap!  Johnny 5?  C'mon...   ::)  If Hasbro's going to start making characters from other movies now, then at least give us a senator E.T. figure finally!

Highly probable that I'm just going to skip wave 4 here.  This just ain't Star Wars to me.

Least interesting wave yet...  Unfortunately.

I maybe would take a set...  Oh Matt!   :D

The one on the right's ok...  One in the middle's most "Star Wars" looking.  The one on the left, eh...

All have bad paintjobs I think.  Not very grimey and Star Wars "used" looking, which is what I liked about some of the earlier ST Droids.

The one shaped like a blue box with rivets and a welding arm is, to me, the epitome oof Star Wars looking.  I'd like a handful ofo that figure if they were just as cheap as a normal Star Wars figure.  :(

Boy, those look rotten.  Considering they're easy enough to get though, fine. They really need to just bite the bullet and do a 3P0 and Mon Cal repaint if they bother with more, and update the cardbacks to an OTC variant. It would be dang cool if they photographed the attraction que area where the droid/alien was located and used it as the background.

No idea, actually.  Still nuthin' down there.  Maybe they're having a hard time deciding what cards to put them on (did we see any carded shots, or just loose ones?)...  OTC, Saga...  Or maybe they just finally realized that their droids suck (aside from the astromechs)...   :-\

I wish they'd clearance old figures.  I'd take a bunch of that bronze one with the hoses and stuff, and the boxy one with the welding arm.

I thought those were 2 really decent, Star Wars-y figures.  Especially the bronze one.  THAT is a nice figure.

Yup.  The top one sports some nice decals on his back, separate hose pieces, a ball/socket head...  The boxy one isn't as nice, but the "cheap" droid feel is there.

The rusty one though, he rocks.  A figure that holds up agains thte BEST droids Hasbro has offered.  $10's steep, but if they came down at all I think I'd buy two more anyway.  They look like any droid you'd see in any scene in the movies.

A visit to Once Upon a Toy this week, and nothing new. They only had wave 3 Star Tours on the shelf, no waves 1 & 2. All 3 waves were still available at Tatooine Traders @ MGM Studios.

They are out of stock on several popular items, perhaps they will be restocking for the Holidays?

Asking several cast members about the upcoming toys gave me several different anwers, none of them helpful.

Thanks for the updates Sharon!  I've heard the same from Karen out in your neck of the woods too.  Nothing out here on our side either.

What's funny, is that as much as I hated that Wave 4, I'd be pissed if they cancelled it for some reason.  I hate it when SW figures get shown, and then axed.  Make my collection feel incomplete...   :P

What about Sandcrawlers out there Sharon?  None of those either?  If there are any, let us know if they're $40 (as was rumored a couple weeks ago), or if they're just the usual $60...

I could probably go for one of those little Jedi Mickeys too, so hopefully they show up again sometime - especially out this way.

Yes, Sandcrawler is $40 and Slave 1 is $30 at MGM or OUAT. (Thanks Hasrbo! ;D)  It is great to have these resources so close by.

Perhaps Hasbro decided to change the cards on the Star Tours figures? Anything could happen....

But PLEASE bring back Jedi Mickey!

Still not a peep out of Series 4 yet Paul.  Considering nothing's shown up on eBay, it doesn't look like they're gonna be happening anytime soon.  Maybe they're gonna hold onto them 'til Ep. 3 hits theaters.  I dunno...  But from what I've heard, I think there should be at least 6 of the 9 prior Star Tours figures there, if not all of them.

As for other stuff there, I've heard some reports of scattered sitings of the OTC Sandcrawler there for only $40, but that's only at the Disneyworld store.  Which one are you going to?

Other than that, they've got all sorts of random SW things, from the regular retail stuff you'd see in stores (marked up quite a bit), to some more unique stuff related to the ride and what not.  They've got some new small PVC/vinyl set of figures, from what I recall.  Might want to drop Master_Phruby a message here if you're hitting Disneyland, as he stops in there every few weeks (including last weekend), so he might have a better idea than I do.

If you're going to Disneyworld, shoot Sharon a line (Darthshader, above), and she can likely tell you what they've got in stock out there...

Good luck, and have fun!

I only have one Star Tours fig that I OVERPAID for at a local show, so I'll probably pick one or two up just to say that I got one.

This is a full on trip for my Daughter, so I'll hit the Star Wars stuff if I have a chance, but I don't think she is going to want to ride Star Tours...

I'm not terribly upset personally.  Wave 4 was weak at best...  Those initial figures had some winners in there though.  The WEG1618 droid is among my fav droids of all-time in the modern line I think.

The DLX one is nice too...  I'm not fond of a couple, and for price they were all a let-down on some level, but there was quality in there.  I was always a little astonished how the figures seemed superior (at the time) in some ways to basic line figures.

Just wish they were cheap enough to amass a nice lot of extras.   :-\

Agreed - Wave 4 was the weakest set to date (Wave 3 wasn't much better considering that the Heli-bird thing was lame and the G2-9T was a minimal variant on G2-4T)

They really should have stopped after Wave 2.

Do things sell at the Star Tours shops and Once Upon a Toy? I thought they did well - I mean if you go back in this thread to January, the only Star Tours figures left were Wave 3 and Captain Rex - personally keeping Captain Rex IN STOCK is a smart move simply because he's the most noticeable droid of all.

Are these shops selling the ROTS figures now? Perhaps they're waiting for that to die-down abit. Perhaps they're waiting for Hasbro to package them on ROTS style cards or perhaps they are on hold pending the supposed updating that GL wants to do to Star Tours to incorporate the locals seen in the PT as well as the OT.

I agree with what Matt said all the way back in November - if they are indeed cancelled for good never to be available for purchase that will make me feel like there is a small (albeit midly insignificant) piece of my collection that is incomplete. This feeling is even further enhanced by the fact that someone out there got them on eBay for what would seem to be (in hindsight) a steal.

Sadly, i was really looking forward to wave 4. I wish i would have gone after the ones on ebay that time. Damn hindsight being 20/20
