I only really want the Astromech just because I'm a sucker for Astrodroids :)

The Aurra is interresting enough to use as another of her species. I may pick one up if I ever see one (Wallyworld exclusives are rather to ugh to come by when you live in a state with only 3 Walmarts :( ).

Saga Collection '06 / Re: BARC TROOPER!
« on: July 22, 2006, 09:30 PM »
>:( >:( >:( >:(
Why would they not at the very least pop the Barc trooper head on this thing. And the boots are the same worn by the Galactic Marine, which they've sculpted already as we've seen in the preview pics. way to drop the ball Hasbro, way to drop the ball.

 >:( >:( >:( >:(

I wouldn't necessarily say that Hasbro dropped the ball as the figures in the slide show are hand painted "prototypes". I used " " marks as they are not true prototypes but hand painted production figures of older figures that have been released before, just like the "Final 12" figures displayed at Comic Con last year. The BARC trooper is only a repainted VTSC Bikerscout with an Evolutions rifle. While the final figure may be more or less identical to the "prototype" seen here, Hasbro has been known to switch things up a bit at the actual production level (I.e. switching the 501st Clone from last year from a #41 to a #38 body).

Also, these toys are not meant to be exact replicas of their onscreen counterparts, just a representation of them for kids to play with. If you want absoloute accuracy, you will have to wait for something from Gentle Giant, Master Collectors, or one of the other "collector focused" high end collectibles manufacturers.

Also, you consider yourself a customizer, you can always fix any of Hasbro's "inaccuracies" yourself if you are ever so inclined. I do it all the time if it's something that I feel is just too far off-base to be tolerated for aesthetic reasons :)

The only ones I see myself buying are the Astromechs.

I wouldn't mind picking up a few more Kit Fistos and maybe a Yareal Poof or 2 for customizing, but the Astromechs are the only ones I really "want".

Saga Collection '06 / Re: #61 Super Battle Droid (Island Camo)

This figure is actually kinda cool, visually and conceptually. it may not have appeared in the films, but who's to say that the Seps didn't deploy differently deco'd droids across the galaxy to fight on different fronts? The events in the 6 films cannot be EVERYTHING that ever happened, everyywhere in the entire length and breadth of that entire million-system Galaxy, they are just a glimpse at some "major" events. If Clones can come in all of their Skittles-colored glory and you love them and buy them by the cartfull, why can't BDs? In early design sketches for AOTC, each "union" in the Sep Confederacy was supposed to have differently colored BDs so I really don't see any reason to be upset over this. Just think of them as "Concept Art" figures if it'll help you sleep better at night ;)

If you don't like it, don't buy it, simple as that. That's what I do with Clones. I don't cry about the fact that they are being released, I just don't buy them.

Maybe Hasbro is just making toys for kids to play with and not worrying about picky adult fans? Maybe they are just using alittle imagination and testing the waters for easy ways to keep the line alive between the end of the movies and the beginning of the TV shows?

(EDIT:  I edited out a large middle portion of the text of this post...  I've addressed the situation already so it needs no explanation.  Keep the discussion to toys.  The rest is just looking for a fight which I refuse to allow.  JJM)

I think this figure and his BD 2pk companions are pretty nice looking. I won't be buying them myself as I am no longer buying any Prequel-era items as they serve no real use in my "Universe" but I actually like that Hasbro is using some imagination and actually "playing" with the Star Wars Universe a little bit like Kenner did back in the Vintage days. C'mon, Mini-Rigs anyone? Imperial Troop Transport? Side Gunner? Micro-Rigs/Body-Rigs (they are referred to by both names)? All very cool, fun ideas that never saw a second of screen time but for the most part looked as if they could "exist" in Lucas' playground (there are 2 Mini-Rigs I dislike the design on, but don't begrudge them their existance). I see these camo droids in the same light. Just like I see the first wave of POTF2 Deluxe Figures. Or most any "didn't actually see screen-time" toy.

Just remember this simple little tidbit:

For every EU-hating adult that buys Star Wars figures and laments the existance of this and other "non-film" toys, there are tens of thousands of kids that may pick up these toys in the stores and think it's the coolest thing they have ever seen because they are new and different.

And they are the ones that Hasbro really makes these toys for, not us.

bTW, where do you announce your swap shop??

In the Modern Trading section of the board.

I have 2 different Swap Shops, one toys and one statues and busts ("Spectre's High End Swap Shop"). I haven't listed the metallic "holos" yet as I'm still deciding which ones I'm going to keep. I'll have any extras up tomorrow night or Sunday afternoon.

These look amazing!

I always thought it would be great to try to paint the Amidala one for use in a post-ROTS Theed/Naboo diorama and that the Jedi would look great in a jedi temple set-up.

Please give as much detail as you can about the making of these, i.e. what paints did you use?

For some reason, though, my Yoda was already silver, so at least I have a leg up on that one.

Your Yoda was one of the "Ultimate Galactic Hunt" variants.

I just used Appel Barrel Craft paints, nothing special. They make some great metallics and are dirt cheap :)

Fixed my photobucket upload problem (kept reducing my pics to teeny tiny versions for no reason :( ) so the pics are now full-sized and you can get a better look at the metal patinas :)

23
I'll probably only get 2 or 3 as I have a ton of the POTF2 ones and all they are going to be doing is manning weapons stations so I do not need the extra articulation. The new ones will be officers or something since I'll display them sans armored vest (and keep their helmets on as I really dislike the Clone heads underneath :( ).

Wow, I can really see that those things require some major work. Great job! :)

Thanks :)

But they don't really require major work, just tedious, repetitive work. You really need to hit them with the base color (the darker colors in the nooks and crannies) 3 or 4 times to get them completely opaque so light no longer passes through them. You also have to prime them well or else the paint will have difficulty sticking to the slightly oily feeling transparent plastic they are molded in (especially the red ones as they are particularly hard to get the paint to stick to). Then let them dry completely so as to not remove any of the base color when drybrushing on the metallic accent colors. That's it, nothing fancy or advanced, just repetitive and tedious :)

I have been trying to find some kind of use for those stupid little mini "holo" figures that are packed in with the current Star Wars figures as they really served no purpose to me as-is since most of the characters depicted are dead by the time of my "Universe" (approx. 9 years post "Return Of The Jedi").

It finally hit me during the design phase of my "Super Secret Customs Project" (which will debut the first week of August!) when I had to come up with several different forms of weathered metal patinas.

Now the useless mini "holo" figures are metallic statues for use in dioramas!

Here's a comparison shot with all 4 "alloys":

I made a ton of these guys today. Any that I do not decide to keep will be offered up in my Swap Shop next week :)

no FAMAS then ? :'(

Possibly in Series 4, John is releasing only the stuff that is done right now. There were almost 40 items in development and the remainder will be out next year in the spring.

With the upcoming unveiling of my "Super Secret Customs Project" in 3 weeks (I had alot of stuff come up that keeps pushing this back, some good- getting engaged and making wedding plans :D, and some bad- exhaustion, accidentially cutting off half of the top part of my right middle finger and having to wait for it to grow back before I could resume customizing 8O ), the finishing up of "Galactic Intelligence: Joint Operations Elite and "The Brotherhood Of the Serpent" by fall (finally  ), and "Deep Sea Danger!" in the winter (Feb/March '07), I am left wondering what my next "themed" line of customs should be for mid 2007.

I have 3 ideas all ready for the design stage but cannot decide which to do first so I'm turning to everyone here for advice as to what you want to see first.

In no particular order:

"No Matter Where You Go, There You Are: The Continuing Adventures Of Buckaroo Banzai In A Galaxy Far Far Away"
- After a devestating accident during a test of the all-new and improved Ocillation Overthruster, the daring adventurer/neuroseugeon/rock star Dr. Buckaroo Banzai finds himself thousands of years in the past and billions of miles from home! With the Jet Car and his precious Ocillation Overthruster smashed, Dr. Banzai must build a new way to get home or be forever lost in a galaxy far far away. Luckily his new-found friends, "The Corellian Cavaliers" (name may change to something funnier) are by his side and watching his back.

This line will feature at least 2 versions of Dr. Banzai, the Jet Speeder, a dozen or so "Cavaliers", all-new crime lords to oppose the good Dr., and possibly some Lectroids thrown in for good measure :)

"Beware! The Red Skull!"[/b]
- On a war-ravaged planet in the Outer Rim, an aggressive disfigured warlord subjugates nearby systems with his dreaded soldiers- "The Red Shadows".

Kind of a companion series to "The Coming Of Doom" but also combining the old Action Force villians. This line will have the Skull himself, several classes of Red Shadows troopers and a few of the old British villians mixed in. Also possibly some vehicles and battle droids as well.

"Angels To Some, Demons To Others: The Order Of The Bleeding Wound"
- On the dark and foreboding Corriban, homeworld of the Sith, a Dark Side cult is gaining power. A cult that worships the blessed order of mutilated flesh and piercing metal. This cult is amassing an army of disfigured followers to send across the galaxy and spread their "holy message".

Think "Hellraiser" in the Star Wars Universe but without any of the overly Christian overtones (more like a freaky S+M club than anything else). This line will focus on the hierarchy of the Order, their soldiers, and weapons of torture (possibly as another multi-level playset!).
