Title: Target's exclusive "Micro" line
Post by: JediMAC on January 27, 2005, 05:02 PM
That sucks that Target just changed their mind and decided to pass on this line after all...

Or maybe not. (http://www.hasbro.com/starwars/pl/page.news/id.1132/dn/default.cfm)   ;)

Looks like Target's in on these exclusives as well.  Odd that Walmart and Target would be sharing different exclusives from the same line of old ships, including a couple of the identical ships getting shared...  Or are they not the Diecast versions, and are instead just the old MicroMachine ones?  Hard to tell really...  I guess it's probably the latter, now that I think about it.

Are the figures from the former Micro Machine line, or what?  Actually, after scoping out the larger shots, they almost look like they're all new...   ???

Well, looks line one line I won't be spending money on.

Are those Micro Machines? If so, I'm passing on them. I have all those in the upcoming line already.

I fiddled with the size of the images to get a sense of how big these could be and my best guess is the package is roughly 4" x 6".

The figures are 3/4", not including the puck-like stand. (I wonder if there's significance to the uniform stand other than to save costs in tooling or production should it be a separate piece the figure is later attached to.)

At this scale, most of the ships would indeed be the same size as existing mm vehicles, the exception being the landspeeder. The one pictured appears slightly bigger (and obviously without a seated Luke). It also looks like the sandcrawler has less detail, but that could just be due to the low resolution.

[update: 1/31/05]

Just caught this thread (http://threads.rebelscum.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=1036831&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=2&vc=1) over at RS. Someone's attributing to SSG that the micro line consists of rehashes from the diecast/x-ray ships.

The sandcrawler in the picture certainly resembles the diecast version more closely than than it does the mm vehicle.

That's going to be one huge peg hole!

I think they are only rehashes, and that's why I don't like Hasbro. Man, I still miss Action Fleet!!!!!!! :'(

Are they going to release EP3 vehicles with these?  They just can't get past the fact that everyone has the OT ships that wanted them.  You think they would learn that with the AF OT vehicles from the past release.

Another Hasbro update today on the Star Wars Micro Vehicle Multi-Packs – Wave 2. (http://www.hasbro.com/starwars/pl/page.news/id.1170/dn/default.cfm)

Today we have the ANH Trench Ambush Set, EBS Battle of Hoth Set and ROTJ Bounty Hunter and Sith Set.

Meh, still passing on them.

I actually have collected some of the earlier MicroMachines, but with so much coming out at once, this line will probably get put on the backburner.

One big attraction to these is they are actually OT vehicles - I'm sure this will get them a lot of attention.

Has anyone heard anything official as to whether these are new molds, or old MicroMachines, or old Diecast ships?

After thinking about it a bit, the Titanium Series must be like the old Die-Cast vehicles, and so the Micro line would be equivalent in size to the old MicroMachines line.  Now if I can just figure out if they're new or rehashes...
???

I picked up the first 3 the other day at MM.  Haven't opened them yet, and don't have my prior Micro Machine ships handy to compare them, though I'd suspect the ships to be the same.  Not so sure about the figures though.  I think they're all new.

But yeah J2, the former Diecast line from a number of years ago is now the new WM exclusive Titanium Series, along with some all-new PT ships as well.

Anyone know when Wave 2 of the Target Micro line is due out?

Upon closer inspection, I'm not thinking the ships may be all new as well...  They seem bigger than the original MM ships.  Maybe they're even from the same molds as WM's Titanium series?  I have no idea.  Anyone know?

I heard they were molded using the larger "X-Ray" versions of MM, like these (http://www.cloudcity.com/Micro_Machines_Power_of_the_Force_2_X-Ray_Fleet_Collection_3_Sealed_Box_C9_or_better.html).

The X-Ray ships were a bit larger than the standard MMs were.  I don't own them to compare for ya, but that is the info I last heard from Target...

Hmmm, kind of cool really. Vehicles that transform into mini playsets.  I like it.

I was very impressed by these sets.  Could be a lot of fun to set up and display!

Yeah, those transforming sets look pretty fun, much like the ones of years past.  Question is, will I be collecting them?  I've refrained from pretty much all prequel MM and AF, so there's a good chance I'll be passing on these sets too.  We'll see...

The second wave of ships/figures has been hitting all the Targets around here tha past week.  Picked up the next three, and I'd probably say that Jeff is likely right on those X-ray fleet molds being used for these.  Of course, what happens when they've gone through the 8 or so X-ray molds?  Presumably all new molds, I guess.  That'd be a good thing, since I haven't found these ships to be of the highest quality so far.  Kind of disappointed in them actually...

I second that.  I took mine all back and returned them to Target.  These things aren't worth $7 a pop.  I already have the smaller scaled MM ships with the stands that came out years ago and theses things just look craptacular in their larger scale.  I'd be happy to start collecting the Titanium ships, but I can't find those lil suckers...

I like these 2 playsets and hope to get my hand on them :)

And on this one too:

I've never bought anything in the "micro" vein of things, but these playsets do look kind of cool.  I do like the wookiee one that is up on GH's front page today (and a pic in the post above of the "closed set").  Kind of a neat idea, and reminds me of the micro line that was out in the vintage days somewhat.  Still don't know if I'll buy, but they do look sort of neat.  I've thought about picking up the Falcon set from the first "regular release" series of these, but I don't know that I've actually looked through the pegs at Target to see if they even have it.  Might have to check that out next time, just to have the Falcon with Han and Chewie.

Why do I get the feeling that this is the only Turbo Tank we'll ever see?  It'd be great in the Hasbro line (as so many guys have stated)...

Series 3 of the mini-vehicle sets (with 2 ships and 2 figures) is now hitting Targets.  The 3 new sets consist of the ARC-170, both Jedi Starfighters, Droid Tri-Fighter, Barc Speeder and the AT-RT.

I'm just sticking with the OT Micro sets though.  Besides, the WM Titanium ships are just about the exact same size as the ships in these 2-packs, and the WM diecast ships have 10x better detail and a much better "weighty" feel to them.  These Target ones just look and feel "cheap".

But I want this Turbo Tank, where is it? I havn't heard any articles about people seeing this in stores yet. I have all the micro stuff both MS and TS. Yes, even wave one titanium(sorry Matt) it was easy(again,my apologies). But I don't have this...with no other tank released will this be a hard find?

Update: NM, I got it

Looks like the Turbo Tank is turning out to be a pretty easy find after all.  It's also sounding like it may be the last piece in this line, which may be defunct now.  I guess that's fine with me, since these really looked and felt cheap overall.  Not a good quality line, IMO.  The Titanium ships pretty much smoked these, even without the playability factor - at least to the average adult collector.  The kids likely dig the Micro line though, but the larger ships still aren't moving much, nor the smaller vehicle/figure sets either.  And for whatever reason, Target's making no effort to clearance these pegwarming crapfests out...  :-\

I thought another wave was announced at the CC for the fall of the double ship packs???Am I wrong about this? They showed the "ROTS wave" and didn't they say another wave WAS in the works beyond that? Can't remember.... :(...senility? :-[

I bought all of these when they first came out back in '05, but over the past few years, I've decided that these too must go along with all my action figures and ships. They are all still in the packaging of course, but now I'm wishing I had opened them and at least messed around with the playsets! :P
