Customizing Tips and Tricks / Re: painting figures
« on: January 30, 2006, 11:37 PM »
It sounds like you are using enamels. They will never dry. Try using some acrylic paints, and hitting them with a matte sealer afterwords.

It's true enamels and soft plastics don't mix, acrylics is the only way to go.  I use Tamiya flat acrylics myself and the best part about acrylics is they thin and clean up with water, which also means that sealing the items is also the way to go.

Painting these damn little things is getting addictive and now I am going to have to paint a whole set.

I just finished Count Dooku...

That is a pretty damn big Whipid.  You did a great job on blending the parts and paints, looks factory fresh to me.  ;D

That's awesome!  That is exactly what I was going to do with an extra Holo Boba Fett figure.  You really nailed the details on that Stormie.  Great work!

The Boba is going to be the most detail oriented of the bunch,  can't wait to see how that one turns out when you you complete it.   Vader and the Stormtrooper were pretty simple, Darth Maul might be challenge with the face paint, but I kind of like them in color...

I think it will look pretty damn cool if you paint everything, clothing included on the figure, then and add a belt and cloth skirt.  It would definitely fit into that style of figures quite nicely.

I was trying to fill in the gap between paint drying on a couple of customs and out of sheer boredom decided to add a little color to some these little SAGA mini Holo figures...

Holy crap, this is nice.  I really like the backpack and the visor, very inventive.  You did a great job on the painting too, a truly one of a kind Shocktrooper commander.  Not that he needs it, but a shoulder pauldron could look cool.  Either way, outstanding custom Exjedi!

 :P

Thanks.  I actually made a pauldron, a cloth skirt, and even tried just a single  leg holster, but ultimately didn't like the look of it, so I stuck with plain.

Wow, I had no idea that the backpack was sculpted - I thought it was a modified battle droid backpack!

It was originally a Battle Droid Backpack that I added some styrene strips to and chopped up a little to get my basic shape for the mold.  Once the mold is made, I trim, sand, add some new antenna's & paint to it.

Man, I must be getting old when 20 years doesn't seem like that long ago.

We watched that launch for science class that day.  We had been working on jet propulsion for a few weeks, building those little balsa and paper rockets that shoot way the hell up in the sky.  My rocket was a mini version of the shuttle & I still have the thing somewhere stashed away.  I felt the need to hang onto it as a reminder of that day...

nicely done, great color match and clean lines. i'm a sucker for some mild battle damage, but clean is good too  :)

Thanks, I like battle damage myself, thought about adding a few scuff marks, but still not sure if I will add it to this one.

That looks great, the lines are really crisp, nice work.  What did you make that visor out of?

Thanks, the visor is made out of sheet styrene that I cut for the basic shape of the visor, then I use hot glue for depth on the top and to cover the seams.  The hot glue dries nice and solid and can be easily shaped with a  dremel & sanding disc.

This is what it looks like once the basic shape is done:

That backpack pictured was a prototype I used before I molded and cast the final one...

I don't usually post my customs on the forums and a lot of people are just plain burned out on Clone Trooper customs, but I thought I would post a couple of pics of this one anyway since I am new to JD.  This one is about 95% complete, just have to add a few minor details & should be done tonight...

I don't care what they do as long as they don't bring back those stupid Jedi Master Points redemption program.  You remember the one that had some damn guy whose brother works with a Chinese guys cousin, whose sister has a 7 year old brother painting figures for Hasbro in a factory back home where  he cut 275,000,000 points from defective cardbacks that he sent her to trade for a new pair on Air Jordans.

Saga Collection '06 / Re: TSC Recent Purchases
« on: January 24, 2006, 10:20 PM »
You really have to wonder what the hell is going on.  Why are these stores so bad at this?  First of all, there aren't enough facings or peg hooks for THE hottest action figure line at present and probably of all time.  Furthermore, of the limited peg hooks they have, they could at least put some lousy figures on them.  Even the bad ones.  EIII figures were easy to find here in just about any multiples I desired them.  And when EIII went out, Star Wars pretty much went with it.  I did see the Hoth wave one time 11 days ago and have not seen another blessed thing in any store KB, TRU, Wally, Target since.

The pegs have been empty for the most part since Thanksgiving here as well.

I just wish that in these non-movie years Hasbro would pull their heads out of their asses and just get the assortments adjusted and actually ship a decent amount of the figures that we all know will sell.

Damn impressive collection you have.

I think even if I had the extra space like you have, that I would just be too tempted to start cracking open figures on a rainy day.
