Title: Droids and (shudder) Ewoks.
Post by: Morgbug on August 3, 2004, 03:59 PM
Yup, pretty much nearly done the Vinty collection.  Waiting for a few pieces in the mail, need to get a Romba with a hood ::) (this piece will subsequently drop dramatically in price, once I do) and then the loose collection will be complete.  I only need to upgrade a few figures, maybe 5-6 to be happy.  Almost all of the weapons are present, but some that are missing are with the upgrades, so I'll buckle down and get the advertised C-9+++ ::) individual figures with the $4 shipping ::) and be done with it.  No more bargain hunting here.

That leaves me wanting something new.  I'm still toying with the trilogo carded stuff, but know I won't ever finish that line thanks to a couple of extremely expensive pieces.  I've contemplated doing the first carded appearance schtick as well, but again, probably more $$$ than I want to part with.

Vehicles are out - too big, too many and too expensive.  Also not keen at the moment on playsets due to space constraints.  Not sure what else there is that I want, so I'm thinking about the two smaller lines, Droids and yes, embarassing though it may be, Ewoks figures.

So, difficulty?  Price?  Completeness?  Comments are all welcome.

I'm not terribly worried about prototypes or unproduced second generation stuff, that's beyond my desire (I've never seen these shows even once :-[).  So who are the toughies in these lines?  Should I be expecting to part with considerable sums of money?  From scouring ebay, I've seen a fair number of the Droids common stuff come along, most of it carded surprisingly and relatively cheap.  Seems blasphemous to buy carded stuff to open, but some of those bubbles are so yellow they're almost brown.

I've noticed that R2 and 3PO seem to be quite pricey and relatively rare on ebay, but the rest are rather more common.  Is this accurate?

As far as the Ewoks go, I haven't a clue, largely due to my aversion to small furry cute movie ruining midgets.  I occasionally see some and lost a few auctions on them on the weekend, only because I wasn't around at the end.  No big, just curious to see the pricing, seemingly around $15 or so a piece.

Help me ___, you're my only hope ::) :-*

Have you ever thought about collecting the POTF Coins? It is one hell of a challange espcially the Catagories IV & V coins there tough to find and will command some $$  but its worth it  :)

So now the Droids & Ewoks series. I'm in the same boat, I don't have all of them. In time I will but not a rush right now.

Lets take a look at what is in the series & my search on eBay for carded unless noted!  :P

Droids

Artoo-Detoo (R2-D2).  $100.
A-Wing Pilot.                $100.+
Boba Fett.                    $500. +
Jann Tosh.                    $35.
Jord Dusat.                   $40. +
Kea Moll.                       $30.
Kez-Iban.                      $45.
See-Threepio (C-3PO).  $125.
Sise Fromm.                   $200. +
Thall Joben.                    $25.
Tig Fromm.                     $125. +
Uncle Gundy.                  $100. +
Vlix.                                 $2,600.  Loose.  Carded...  :o

Ewoks

Dulok Scout.         $15.
Dulok Shaman.    $20.
King Gorneesh.    $15.
Logray.                 $70.
Ugrah Lady Gorneesh. $20.
Wicket W. Warrick.       $45.

You can find them loose but not many have there accessories. I may have missed something.   :-\
Title: Re: Droids and (shudder) Ewoks.
Post by: Morgbug on August 3, 2004, 09:51 PM
Yes, accessories are a biatch, to say the least.  That's kind of why I was thinking about carded, but hopefully lesser cards or bad bubbles or something like that.

Vlix was and is out.

So what are the differences between the figures in this line versus the regular line.  Specifically:
Awing pilot vs awing pilot
Boba Fett vs Boba Fett

3PO and R2 are obvious to me, but these look pretty darn identical.
Title: Re: Droids and (shudder) Ewoks.
Post by: DSJ™ on August 3, 2004, 09:58 PM
The Droids Boba Fett & the A-Wing Pilot are identical to the regular line so not a biggy there unless you want to grab another Boba Fett & A-Wing Pilot to stand them all together in one happy family.   ;D

Post by: Morgbug on August 3, 2004, 10:07 PM
Thanks for the confirmation.  Lookee at bookee and see no difference.

I may do just that, for ***** and giggles.  Droids may be sufficient to keep me entertained for some time, obviously.  Wonder if the wife would divorce me over a Vlix?

hmmm. this is a line that really never interested me, to be honest. i'm not 100% finished with my vinty collection just yet, but i don't consider these a part of it, and i really don't have any plans on starting them. i do like the droids r2 and 3p0, but if i got them i'd have to get them all.

Well being the huge vintage collector that I am I say go for the Droids, Ewoks, and POTF Coins. I have complete sets of all three mentioned above and i think that they are my favortie vintage items. (still need Vlix and a 63rd coin) The Droids and Ewoks cards have some of the nicest artwork. They are pricey now but are very cool.

This is about the closest I will get to a Vlix. It's a huge figure!  :o

I dont have any droids/ewoks  figures loose and I only have Jord Dusat carded, I would like to get a complete set loose!
Is there any difference between Boba and A wing pilot from the droids series and from the vintage line?

I bought neither since they aren't movie cannon, EU sucks :P

Although a Droids 3PO and R2 would be nice to have someday
Title: Re: Droids and (shudder) Ewoks.
Post by: Morgbug on August 4, 2004, 11:34 AM
Sadly I have no such restrictions :-[

I'm less inclined to end up with Ewoks than Droids, to say the least.  But much of the EU stuff I really like: Mara Jade, Leia Organa Solo and the rest of that series.  Snowbiwan is cool for a figure, thought it might appeal to a Minnesotan as well, but guess not :-*

Hate to admit it, but I have to agree with Scott on this one.

I too don't like theStar Wars  EU, neither books, comics, figures or anything else related to it. I do like a good book, especially a sci-fi novel, but just not Star Wars.

Only EU figure I have is the Imperial Sentinel, because of it's semilarities to the vintage unproduced Atha Prime figure.

Actually I have some Droids and Ewok figures too, but they are all up for sale.

I am afraid I swing the other way, I love the EU, I am currently reading the NJO books and there great! :)

I've got three or four loose Ewoks, my favorite is probably the one in a yellow rain coat - but the Princess (or at least I think she's the princess) is cute, too.  :-*

Can't wait to get the DVD set of Ewoks/Droids.

BTW - Anyone want to sell their Ewok cell that the Insider mailed out recently?  ???

One down, one to go.  My Canadian carded R2 arrived today.  My dilemma over whether to open it was solved when the bottom of the bubble popped out in transit, so I have a rather nice, minty loose Droids R2.

Ouch. That kinda sucks. Unless, of course, you really wanted it open. Then I guess it's okay.

Is there anywhere that lists the Droids figures weapons?  They aren't listed on the armory and I can't make them out in Sansweet's book very well.  I'll check Kellerman's book, but I don't know of them being in there from memory.

I'm sure RS probably has pics.  I'm looking for overlap with conventional vintage weaponry as some of the incomplete figures are going for considerably cheaper right now without weapons.  I just want to know if I can find a relatively cheap replacement.

Thanks.  The solution is to do what I originally intended - buy beat up cards and open them, but I'm starting to feel bad about that :-\  It's ok when it happens without intent as it did with R2, but unless the card is fairly thrashed, it's sorta painful.

Yeah thats rough, i think part of the beauty in the line is the art work on the cards.

I neglected to mention that stormie (Bob) fired me off the Kez Iban I count as mine for nada.  A very kind gesture that I hope to repay some day.  That made that auction all the more appealing since I get a bunch of coins out of it as well.

Nice to see Mike over here as well.  I've found him to be very informative over at snowtroopers.ca.  The more resources I can exploit, the better. ;)

It's actually fun to have some challenge to it.  I've set an upper limit around $110 shipped, so we'll see if I can pull it off.  I think that's the third or fourth Sise I've finished second on ::)  All around that price too, but you never know the winning bidder's max, so I may not have won even if I went higher.  I don't really need the coin either, but will take it if I can get it.

Never going to be finished though anyway, I'm not buying a Vlix unless I win the lottery.  I'll see what I can do with the Ewoks now.  Since I started watching them the prices have climbed steadily ::) :P

I haven't paid much attention until recently at Droids/Ewoks figures. I know it's easier to find carded figures on beat up cards than mint loose. Is it common to see the average price for the more common carded figures in the $30 range? I'm thinking I might go forward and start picking up some of these guys, though I have to balance my wanting the figures with my steadfast cree not to open carded vintage....

There's been a pretty strong upward surge in the price of most of the carded Droids and Ewoks figures over the past year.  I'm down to needing Logray and Wicket for my loose collection.  In that time I've watched them climb into that $30 range you mentioned Jason.  I don't know why, surge with ROTS popularity?   It's been frustrating though because even though they're neat, I don't think they should really be commanding the prices they do, though that's only my opinion.

The Fromm's, 3PO, R2 and Kea tend to generate the higher prices among the Droids, while the rest can be had often for under $30.  Ewoks are really variable.  At times you'll see Logray go for $15 on a very nice card and then the next week for $40+ on a card not all that much nicer.  It's weird and frustrating to say the least.  Loose are commanding the same price pretty much too, at least with the Ewoks.  You can find Droids loose for fairly cheap with the exception of the above mentioned ones.  I picked up most of the others in the range of around $10-15 loose with weapons.

Congrats Dale.  Is that all of them carded then?  And are they all Canadian carded at that?

I'm still down a loose wicket and logray.

Lets see where I stand now.

Droids Canadian Carded:

C-3PO.
R2-D2.
Kea Moll.
Uncle Gundy.

Droids US Carded:

Jann Tosh.
Tig Fromm.
Kez-Iban.
A-Wing Pilot.
Jord Ducast.

Ewoks Canadian Carded:

Dulok Shaman.
Dulok Scout.
Urgah Lady Gorneesh.
King Gorneesh.

Ewoks US Carded:

Logray.

Loose Figures:

Thall Joben.
Sise Fromm.

Still Need Ewoks:

Wicket W. Warrick.

It really didn't matter to me if they were carded (Canadian/US) or loose but when some good deals came around for carded I got them. Not including Tig Fromm as he was a Secret Santa gift.  :o   :o

Since a good majority of them are carded, after I get Wicket I think I'll focus on getting the loose ones carded. Boba Fett & Vlix are out of my league.  :'(

Yeah, Fett and Vlix are pretty much lottery win category now.  I'd be happy to buy them, but I'd rather go to Hawaii with my family.  For two weeks.

The Sise alone is worth more than that.

That Luke Stormie the seller was offering also went for a steal.

Out of all the Droids & Ewoks figures excluding Boba Fett, Sise Fromm is my only loose one & I still need to get a Wicket & this line will be done.  :)

That's a pretty good looking card there.  You know, when it comes to the Droids and Ewoks figures, I'm not that interested in the loose figures.  But I think it would be cool to have a set of the carded ones - the cards are so different than the regular line of vinty figures.  :)

Thats the way i felt when i went after my carded set. I had a few loose ones, but loves the card art so much that it was worth getting them all in package.

Well after a long search my last Ewoks figure is finally done. I have tried over the past few months to get the elusive Ewoks Wicket W. Warrick (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6043166309&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1) and tonight the hunt is over! (http://www.telusplanet.net/public/djustus/woohoo.gif)

My Droids & Ewoks line is done!  (http://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/midi/froehlich/a052.gif)

Out of all the figures only Sise Fromm is loose, all the others are carded. In time I will get Sise carded but for now... (http://www.telusplanet.net/public/djustus/woohoo.gif)

I'm so happy the hunt is over!  (http://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/midi/froehlich/a049.gif)

As I mentioned before the carded Droids Boba Fett & of course the very elusive Vlix are not a biggy to me. Down the road... will see.  ;)

Well, it took a while but these seem to be done now.  You might have noticed I have a tiny affliction when it comes to Ewoks (ptui), so I certainly wasn't prepared to drop $30+ for a loose Logray or Wicket.  I've watched many auctions come and go and have bid on an occasional one but lost.

Logray cheap! (http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6063624409&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBSA:CA:11)  I finally managed to get Logray for a decent enough price, mostly I think because the shipping was outrageous.  I actually missed out on this one a week earlier, as did everyone else because it did not sell for $1.99.  I'd contacted the seller to try and buy it without the auction process, but some email glitches dragged it out too long.  I did win the auction and the email conversation proved beneficial.  She also had Wicket, in about the same shape as Logray there (some paint rubs, but for these, I don't care, I'll upgrade when prices are reasonable again).  So $25 total for Wicket and Logray.

No weapons with them that I know of, but I won an auction a couple of years ago now that came with some extra weapons.  I couldn't figure out what they were at the time, but it turns out they were weapons from the Ewoks series so I actually already have the weapons for these guys.

They're not here yet, so I'm not quite prepared to pronounce the line finished, but hopefully within a week.

$10.00 anywhere in the United States and Canada! That Logary better be delivered by a hooker on a silver plater!

LOL, yeah, I think that kept a lot of people away.  It would have kept me from bidding, but I knew I was getting a Wicket as well, so I just considered it part of the price.  But if she ships in a box, it might be $8 CAD anyway, so $7 USD :o  Stoopid Canada Post.

A good way to get a cheap one is to buy one with a missing limb and replace it with a painted limb from a regular c3po. I have seen them go for less that £30 with a missing arm.

I wanted to revive this thread, because its my vintage collecting focus.  I have all the Ewoks characters, but I am still working on my Droids collection.  I'm after Kea Moll and the Fromms, and I collect loose so hopefully I'll find them one of these years, lol.

Awesome, this is part of my ongoing Vintage focus as well. I have all the EWOKS carded and am steadily working my way through the DROIDS lot, although those are way more expensive.

I still need a carded Sise Fromm, C-3PO, A-Wing Pilot, and Boba Fett. And the ATL Interceptor, than I'm done. :)

There's a decent auction on eBay right now for a loose Sise Fromm, Sidious, if you're interested. Might be worth checking out.
