These are not final sculpts but I just wet my pants, Sesame Street is so engrained in my very being that I'll be all over these bad boys, JediMAX will be too :-*

Sesame Series 1 - Second Quarter 2004

Figures:

Ernie (with Rubber Duckie and a banana)
Bert (with Bernice the Pigeon)
Cookie Monster (with cookies and a tea cup)
Super Grover (with cape and helmet)
Oscar (with Slimey and his trashcan)

Sesame Series 2 - Third Quarter 2004

Figures:

Big Bird
Guy Smiley
The Count
Telly
The Two-Headed Monster

With the exception of Super Grover, I don't like 'em.

I want them to look exactly like the puppets on the show, just like the way the Muppets figures look, and. . . they don't.

Ernie's head is too big, Bert's head is too small, Cookie's not the right shade of blue, and Oscar rarely, if ever, wears the trash can lid on his head.  Plus, his trash can doesn't have a big ass "Scram" sign on it, at least the last I saw, anyway.

Yeah, they still have "NOT FINAL SCULPT" plastered all over them, but I'll bet dollars to donuts that this is exactly what the final figures will look like.

As for now, if they remain like they're pictured, the only one I'll be buying is Super Grover.  If they fix 'em (unlikely), I'll buy the whole line.

And "The Count" will be cool.

And a Deluxe Snuffleupagus would rock.

So would a Barkley.

Here is what the sculptor had to say about revisions to the figures...and a link to a rather long thread over at Muppet Central

http://forum.muppetcentral.com/showthread.php?t=10547&page=1&pp=15

Quote
hey all,
sorry I havent posted in a while.... been real busy. BUT, good news!
The meeting went wel wit Ses workshop. Lots of revisions.....bert's head will be totally redone, cookie WON'T have 5 toes?!, ernie's head will be smaller, bert's larger, cookie's eyes smaller, grover's feet smaller, cookie and oscar's fur "crazier" , their proportions will be much closer to the actual character's.....the "textures" will all be added...there are a ton more comments, but I ain't listing everything! (i know you all want me to). I mentioned all the characters that the "fans" want to see, and they were very excited.... Guy, 2 headed monster, telly, herry, mumford.... they were also very excited at the thought of doing a "chase" orange oscar, and a possible clear Snuffy down the line...So overall, good meeting, still lots of work to do, I'll keep y'all updated, you'll see the revised characters in a few weeks! Ciao!

Rock--that guy read my mind.  Well, I'm glad I'm wrong, about the "NOT FINAL SCULPT" business, then.

Orange Oscar!  Crazy!

"Clear" Snuffy made no sense to me until I realized. . .  "oh yeah, invisible Snuffy!"

Cool stuff.

Any idea on when we'll see the revised sculpts?  Toy Fair, maybe?

Man, I am SO going to buy Cookie Monster, even if I'm not confident enough in my manhood to do it. ;) Kidding, kidding. If I start these, I'm going to want to buy some Muppets, and it will be all downhill from there. 'Course, I don't collect GI Joe and Transformers anymore, and MOTU's dead, so maybe.
Title: Re: Sesame Street Figures
Post by: Scott on January 9, 2004, 02:24 PM
These are supposedly coming out in March, Toyfair would be a good bet.  They also said revised sculpts should be showing up soon...

So...I would want

Herry Monster
Prarie Dawn
Barkley
Snuffy
Fat Blue (The guy who was usually in Grover skits)
Regular Grover
Elmo and Zoe (for my sonny boy)
Amazing Mumford
Aliens (Yip yip yip guys)
Twiddle Bug or two
Betty Lou
Don Music
Roosevelt Franklin
Sherlock Hemlock
Forgetful Jones
Gladys the Cow
Biff
Sully
Honker or two
Frazzle

And many more...I am really excited about this line and I think JediMAX will be too, he loves playing with my spare R2-D2s, these will be a little bit more appropriate and akin to the Sesame Street Little People of yore

Well, the MSRP is going to be $15, retailers will supposedly sell them for around $10 putting them at what the Muppets sell for, no finished images yet, waiting patiently though to see if changes were made

Thanks for the pics Scott.  I'll have to admit, these figures do look kind of neat...and bring back some memories.  My wife will probably think I'm insane if I wanted to pick these up, but they are pretty spiffy.  When do these start coming out again?  I wouldn't mind having a Cookie Monster at least, just for the heck of it :P.

Action-Figure.com has a few more details on the first wave of Sesame Street figures.  Apparently now they have "action features".  Ugh.  Maybe it won't be too bad.  I know I never would have thought I'd see/hear the phrase "now with banana-phone answering action!" associated with action figures :P.  They still do look pretty neato though, wouldn't mind getting a Cookie Monster.  They also have some pics of the figures, accompanied by accesories and "letters" for each of them.

Shouldn't Bert come with the letter B?  Why the hell does he have W?
Title: Re: Sesame Street Figures
Post by: Brian on March 11, 2004, 11:24 AM
I was wondering the same thing Mikey, unless that letter is reserved for Big Bird or something?  I have no idea.
Title: Re: Sesame Street Figures
Post by: Scott on March 11, 2004, 11:29 AM
Bert's favorite letter is W

http://members.tripod.com/Tiny_Dancer/w.html

Action features definitely mean less cool to me, especially large obtrusive buttons and levers on the back...really unnecessary >:(
Title: Re: Sesame Street Figures
Post by: Mikey D on March 11, 2004, 11:31 AM
Probably stands for wanker.  Poor guy didn't even put up a fight for the cool letter "B".  You think he was made fun of before, what till the rest of the Muppets see this.

Now Ernie, there's one cool dude.  Probably gets all the honeys.

Of course, this is coming from a guy who still plays with toys.

This is definitely cool news, and I'm glad to see a company like Palisades get this license.  It makes sense with the amazing work they have done on the Muppets line, and from what I have read, they seem to work with collectors pretty well.  I doubt the Mrs. will let these enter the house, although I wouldn't mind having a Cookie Monster.  The Super Grover looks cool too, I remember being quite a fan when I was little.  It will be tough to avoid this line, at least the "main" characters - Big Bird, Bert/Ernie, Cookie, Oscar, Grover, Snuffy, etc.

Also, a little more info on Super Grover (and the line) at their Daily Bit (http://www.palisadestoys.com/viewnews.asp?newsid=42&newstype=1).

ToyNewsI.com (http://www.toynewsi.com/index.php?catid=174&itemid=5353) has some big ole pics up of the Super Grover and "Grover Kent".  Looks pretty nice.  Great that Palisades got the rights to this line, I'm sure they will do it the proper justice.  Going to be hard to not want to pick up a few here and there for nostalgia's sake (such as Cookie Monster, Grover, Snuffy, the Count, Oscar, and Barkley the Dog...some of my favorites).  Heck they are all good :).

Hey, where'd everybody go?!  Just like the Muppets line, I'm loving these figures, but won't be collecting them, unfortunately.  But I still want to see you guys preview the new stuff in here, dammit!  Due for initial release around September'ish now, it sounds like...

Quote
Each series figure will be released in two versions. One for mass retail which will include a figure and accessories, and another version for the collector's market which will include pieces of Sesame Street that you can assemble yourself. Retailers will be announced later this year.

So here's Series 1:

Collector's Club exclusive Super Grover:

As for Series 2:
Quote
Palisades Toys has also officially announced that series 2 will feature: Bert, Count Von Count, the Yip-Yip Martians and Roosevelt Franklin. A special release of Big Bird is also planned for later this year.

I saw a picture in one of the recent action figure magazines, that included a shot of the whole 123 Building on Sesame Street as well.  Damn, how I wanted that when I was young.  I actually had the little Fisher Price Sesame Street figures when I was like 4, and I always begged my dad to make me a facade of the building, to set them up in front of.  In fact, I think there was a 123 Building by Fisher Price way back then, but I never got it which is why I've longed for one ever since (kinda like the Imperial Shuttle, which FAO finally laid to bed).

Anyway, this line looks pretty cool, and is obviously pretty nostalgic for us old farts who grew up on the show.  Just wish I had the balls to collect 'em.  I'm sure Palisades is gonna kick major ass with the license though, so it's good to see that Fun 4 All wound up going bankrupt and losing their shot at these.  Can't wait for more...

Damned pix keep "x"ing out...  Here's another shot from Entertainment Earth:

More "x"s, so copy/paste these links:

http://www.action-figure.com/images/05/03/sesame/Untitled9.jpg

http://www.action-figure.com/images/05/03/sesame/Untitled1.jpg

There's currently 24 pieces planned for the overall diorama (the street sections).  So it looks like they're really gonna make one helluva lot of the actual street, if not all of it.  Could include much of the following:

123 building (already seen)
Fix it shop
Hoopers store
Play yard
Big birds nest area
Alleyway
Subway entrance
News stand
Clock tower
Kids playground area
Etc.

Why am I suddenly feeling like I need to start watching PBS again?!  :P

According to this report at TNI, it sounds as if the figures will no longer be coming with the diorama "street" pieces, and will be sold seperately now.  Read about it HERE (http://toynewsi.com/news.php?catid=174&itemid=7282).  Sounds like it should make the figures cheaper overall though.

I see BBTS now has a preorder up for the deluxe Big Bird action figure coming from Palisades in April.  The list price is about $35.  Has there been any word if these will even make it to retail at all, or are they just an online thing?  Not that I could (or should) really collect them anyways, but I was just curious.  A cookie monster would be tempting to pick up though :P.

I put in a preorder right away last night

However, this line is in big time limbo right now.  There are also rumors going around that Palisades is not in too good shape :-\

Word on the Palisades boards is that Retail is balking at the line.  Too kiddy for collectors and too adult for kiddies ::)

That's the problem I've seen with the line all along.  I grew up watching Sesame Street, but I'm not about to shell out $10-15 for an Ernie figure.  My kids watch Sesame Street, but I'm not about to shell out that money for an action figure that quite frankly is made for adults and will probably break with minimal playing.

I think this whole thing is kind of reflective of the toy industry in general.  There's too much that's geared towards adults, much of which is somewhat esoteric to begin with.

From the President of Palisades, Mike Horn
Quote
"I regret to inform you that after more than 11 successful years, Palisades Entertainment, LLC has discontinued its business of manufacturing and selling licensed and proprietary action figures, collectibles, toys and other goods. This development parallels a general trend within the toy industry, including the bankruptcy of one of Palisades’ largest customers.

Palisades has sold a substantial portion of its assets to another industry player, an affiliate of C.A.S. Iberia, Inc. named Limited by CAS, Inc. That company will continue the sale of certain of the brands that Palisades developed, including the Factory X line.

The sale transaction did not include employment for me or my wife Kate, who many of you know. Consequently, neither Kate nor I will be reachable at the buyer’s offices, nor will we have any ongoing relationship with the buyer.

I don’t have any plans for the immediate future beyond enjoying life with Kate and our children, until I figure out our next chapter.

I’d like to take this time to thank all of my friends and colleagues, and in particular, the team that helped me build and nurture Palisades for so many years."
