Gentle Giant / Re: And The Mystery Ent. Earth Exclusive Is....
« on: September 12, 2012, 05:04 AM »
There's been no clue that it's Tonnika's that I recall...  I think he was just adding to the fun of the thread.

Don't tease, especially on such iconic, if not X-files-esque mysterious, hold-outs of the line such as these two space hookers!  That said, after pronouncing myself more than willing to drop $25 on Jocasta, considering she's one of the few minor (speaking) characters left to be made, I certainly have to be willing to stomach the same amount for 2 far more "important" OT characters remaining from one of our favorite scenes (especially from an action figure / diorama standpoint).  I'd definitely be disgusted by the price again, but I'd still drop $50 x2 in a heartbeat for a couple pairs of these ladies that I never expected to see the light of plastic (that doesn't make sense, I know).  Hell, if they never get made, I'll probably be dropping $75 - $100 on nice customs for each one just to fill the gaping Cantina holes anyway, much like I used to in the post-Kenner days of the vintage line (Sandtrooper, Tarkin, Slave Leia, etc).  So even at a ridiculously lofty $50 a pop, I'll still be saving money.

I'd still prefer my aformentioned Disney astromechs though.  I just wish EE would hurry up and at least divulge the licensee so we could could move on from all this (hopeful) figure speculation, if it winds up "just" being a Gentle Giant product instead.

Here's one more thought on the potential Tonnika Sisters: What if they came with the Cantina's distillery section finally...  That'd be a much easier $50 to stomach, eh?   8)

No doubt Denver's D kept them in most of those games long enough for Tebow to pull yet another miracle out of his ass.  I certainly wasn't suggesting he get all the credit for what they accomplished last season.  Considering I'm not even a Broncos fan, I just didn't want to type out a full expose on their season, though statistically their D wasn't even ranked in the top half of the league.

As for the Ravens, anyone who QBs under Ray Lewis's watch is going to look good/succeed.  As for Dilfer, I enjoyed watching him as a commentator.  Amusing guy.

I'm either totally nuts or just bored with the lack of new product, but I've started collecting this little guys this week

Bad idea.  But I'll guess bored and nuts.  ;)

To be honest, I briefly contemplated it myself, for the same reasons I think.  But collecting a line with blind and/or chase figures can make one's life miserable (as you know).  As if the 4" line wasn't accomplishing that well enough these days.  You realize Hasbro now owns you twice over, and considering the way they've been pimping the schizz out of this line in the past year, I think you're gonna have your work cut out for you for a few years to come in keeping up with these little buggers.  This is the kind of line I'd normally wait to run it's course, and then keep an eye out for complete sets on eBay for a few hundred bucks later on, or at least an OT only set.  That was a better method to the madness with the SWM lines at least.

I was actually coming in here to mention that I saw a huge set of these (with 4 ships) at Costco last week amongst the X-mas toy swag.  Can't recall the price right now, but it was obviously very reasonable (maybe $30ish).  Wondered if this might entice others to delve into the madness while loading up on way more coffee and fabric softener than they could ever need.

Yep, $30.  Here's a pic from RS:

I still can't find any "new" TVC (or CW) figures, but I've managed to track down nearly every other new item (and extras) that I need over the past week: K-mart AT-ST, Maul Returns BP, TRU Speeder Bikes & add'l Ewok & Pilot sets, and the MTT at WM.  Nice to find some new stuff out there, but with the exception of the Ewok & AT-ST Driver 2-pks coming to K-mart soon, there's not much else on the horizon.  It looks like I'll probably be heading back into another 6 month dry spell now.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Cars: Lease or buy?
« on: September 11, 2012, 06:35 PM »
Now we're talkin'.  Thanks Justin!

My car's been paid off for a while, and my wife's car will be paid off in 3 more months, which is why we thought we'd start exploring the leasing option.  I was thinking we'd keep one paid off car, as I don't mind driving around in something slightly older, and keep her in something newer and nicer on a go forward basis - since I think she deserves it (not because she's a materialistic snob).  ;)

The numbers don't back you up.

No kidding.  Any football fan could tell you that.  That was indirectly my point.  Hell, no one has worse stats than Tebow, other than possibly Rex Grossman and a handful of no-namers.  Yet the guy could somehow, inexplicably, get it done when it counted, even in the playoffs for one game.  On the flip side, Cutler puts up strong numbers every year, but continuously fails when it matters, and does so with extraordinarily "unusual" flare.  Skills, obviously.  Mental fortitude and QB IQ, not so much - hence my "from the neck up" comment.  If I was a GM or head coach, I would never want a guy like Cutler leading my team, or even just it's offense.

I've been a big box score and league leader reading junkie for over 30 years, but occasionally the numbers don't tell the full story.

Thanks again for the reply, but maybe I'm not being quite as specific as I should be here.  I know they're entirely separate transactions, but if the car dealership and I are both on the same page and understand that I want to remain a continuously loyal and leasing customer over the years, I wonder if I'm granted as good of deals each time (or better), more of a grace period between leases (if needbe), or... I don't know.  Just a question if loyal leasers are highly valued by dealerships and afforded special care as they choose each new ride every three years on a go forward basis.  Sorry for the confusion.  I think I've actually confused myself with my own goals and questions at this point.  :P

I decided I better stick something else in here quick before I get banned for that last post.  Probably my favorite hottie right now, even if Leo used her all up a few years back - Bar Rafaeli:

Not really going out on a limb with her being #1 on Maxim's Hot 100, I know, but still...

Please don't tar and feather me here, but since I'm currently watching Young Frankenstein, I'm going to throw in a vintage hottie (at least in this movie) from nearly 40 years ago.  A young Teri Garr:

Never had a thing for her before, but she's been giving me some warm and tingly feelings during this flick.  Anyway, sorry for the interruption.  Back to the normal (fake-tittied) hotties now!

More Kat-Daddy please.

Thanks for the info guys.

That's pretty much how I feel, Chris.  I'm not interested in keeping a car for a good 10 years anymore, which would obviously be cheaper in the long run, I know.  I'm more around the 5-6 year range currently, but still manage to have the usual maintenance issues popping up within that range, and still hate to deal with selling the thing at the end, or even trading it in for peanuts (always less than KBB trade-in value).  I'd love to get down to 3 years per new car.

As for money, we've always put about half down up front, which would probably be much more (x2) than three of the smaller leasing down payments added up over the same 10 year stretch.  Our credit is like top 2%, so financing is always a breeze and practically immaterial for us.  However, you guys have pointed out something that I was completely brainfarting on: The probable increase in insurance.  Duh.  I'll have to get some more specific info and run some numbers to see what that comes out to in the long run, as that could be somewhat material (and a potential wash on the avoided maintenance problems).

I'm still interested to know how the timing works out at the end of the lease, as you're heading into a new one though.  Do you have to get something else lined up prior to the end of the current lease (assuming same dealership, of course).  Or do they give you a brief grace period to find something new?

Here is a good article on leasing a car.

Um...  Thanks, again?   :P

The Clone Wars '08-'13 / Re: Target "Darth Maul Returns" Battle Pack
« on: September 11, 2012, 02:45 AM »
Found a bunch of these a couple days ago too.  I probably spent 15 minutes looking through the 4 sets on the shelf trying to pick the best paint job of the bunch, but I swear, when it comes to tattooed face and chest paint applications, Hasbro sucks.  The only one that had Maul's striped centered down his nose correctly, had everything completely off center on the Nightsister and Savage, and vice versa.  Annoying.  Grabbed the best of the bunch, but will probably keep an eye out for a set with 3 decent paint jobs in the future.  As has already been mentioned umpteen times, it's still annoying that Savage doesn't come with his lightsaber from his carded incarnation last year.  Could've appeased a lot of collectors by sticking it in there, since very few found him last time 'round.

Still unusual that Hasbro opted to mix in a realistic character with 2 CW figures in the same BP, but that's fine by me as I much prefer the former over animated stuff.  Any predictions how long it takes Target to bump the price on this thing up?  I say about 3 weeks from now, 'til they figure out it's cheaper (and far better) than the other repacked BPs.

You guys had one pretty recently.  He's a Bear now

Seriously?  I'd take Tebow over Cutler any day of the week, and 10x on Sunday.  Cutler might have more conventional QB skills physically, but from the neck up, he shouldn't even be in the NFL.  I can't think of anyone over the past decade whose professionalism has offended me more than him.

As unconventional and downright crappy as Tebow can be, it's been sad to see him get buried on the Jets bench, after creating some of the most exciting moments in the NFL last year.  At least Sanchez earned his starting job this week though, so that should keep the Jets fans off his back for at least another week or two.

Surprising upsets in Green Bay and New Orleans this weekend too.  RG3 looked pretty damned promising, and really kept his composure in his debut.  And the 49'ers D' proved it's not a flash in the pan either.  I thought last year may have been a fluke for them, but perhaps not.  Bad start for the Pack.

Good to see AP back (early) as well.  They need some decent running backs in this pass-happy league now.  Speaking of which, despite the solid pre-season, I wasn't overly impressed with Luck's inaugural outting.  They better find a way to hand the ball off a bit more, or that poor kid's arm is going to fall off at this rate.  I still think he'd have been better off with a year's tutelage under Manning, despite his maturity and intellect.  I guess it's hard to go that route with the rookie contracts nowadays though.  Manning sure showed that he's rounded back into form.  Hope the old man can keep it up, and avoid any further neck (or bodily) issues.

Weak start by the defending champs too, I might add.

I came across 2 of these yesterday at one of my local WMs, and despite my original thoughts (below) was about to buy one 'til I noticed both boxes were completely crushed on one end, to the point that it made me worried about the contents inside potentially being jacked up.  After a bit of thought and consideration, I ultimately decided to leave them both, which I think was a pretty strong indication to myself that I'm still not overly concerned about coming across these again later.  Man, I'll be kicking myself if that's not the case, and I never come across one again!  But at least they're definitely starting to trickle out a little more now.  It was definitely much heavier than I was expecting.  I might do curls with this thing once I finally grab it.

Watto's Junk Yard / Cars: Lease or buy?
« on: September 9, 2012, 03:21 AM »
My wife and I have been looking into getting a new car (probably Acura TL), but have been contemplating whether it'd be a better idea to start leasing.  We've always bought our cars in the past, but after 5 or 6 years it's usually a pain in the ass to sell the thing, and you don't get squat for a trade-in, so we were exploring the option of doing a lease this time.  I like the idea of getting something new every few years, with the far cheaper maintenance that goes along with that plan as well.  Does anyone else here lease, or have any thoughts on the matter, good or bad?  I'm aware of the limited miles issue, but that shouldn't be a problem, as we could just do our various longer road trips in the other car, if need be.

When a lease runs out, and you pick something new, is the timing at all flexible while you look around, or do you have to jump into something new on day 1,096?  Do they re-finance everything again, or do loyal (continuously leasing) customers get to keep their original (presumably) good deals each additional time (other than the down payment)?  I suppose we could just drag our butts into the Acura dealership to find out, but I thought I'd gather what insight I could before we eventually wandered over there, lest we become prey to those wonderful auto dealership types.

Came across a bunch of these yesterday at TRU and grabbed 3 of them.  After years with the other version, this one feels kinda small, but I guess it's more accurately scaled so that's cool.  It'll just take a little getting used to.  I have to say that I much preferred the weathering on the prior version over this one.  It looks like the new one has been blasted from front to back with a silver paint gun.  Other than that, the added stand(s) and cannon are a nice touch.  Some of the "in-action" pix around the web look particularly cool when the speeder's in flight mode and the clear stand is just out of the frame.  I would've loved an additional clear stand (instead of the cannon, perhaps) that held TWO speeders, so you could stick 2 Scouts and/or Luke & Leia right next to eachother.  I guess I can do it the hard way though.
