Title: K-Mart Vintage Collection B-Wing
Post by: iFett on May 10, 2011, 01:12 PM
Kmart B-Wing ? (http://www.sandtroopers.com/sandwatch/hasbro/20110510/)  I'm perfectly fine with the 4-5 POTJ versions I have, but I do dig that box (if this is true)  Odd how K-Mart continues to get non sucky exclusives...

Very weird, and very uninteresting if it's just the old mold in the old box...  That last B-WIng release did so dismally, I am surprised they'd go another round on those.  Nostalgia can only go so far I think.  :-\

Id be down for one of these if it weren't a K-Mart exclusive. We haven't had one of those in Canada for a while now. I wonder if there'll be anything new besides fancy packaging to entice other buyers. They could probably score an extra couple of sales by including pilots with these exclusive ships.

K-Mart is definitely an odd choice for a vehicle exclusive.  They've done some figures and battle packs, but I can't ever recall them getting a vehicle.  The packaging will be a selling point for some.

Will it do better than the Dagger Squadron B-Wing?  It's possible.  I don't know that the collecting community as a whole was prepared to embrace an EU based fighter like that.  A film based B-Wing might do better.

YAY, K-Mart, and not TRU or Target!

I miss out on so many of their exclusives.

Nice surprise, though I'm happy with the 4 I have from previous releases.

Doesn't look like it's any different from the POTJ/Vintage release...so an easy pass.

Great for anyone who hasn't been able to get it though.

And here I was on the verge of trying to sell off a couple of my POTJ B-Wings.  I think I have at least 4 of those.  Drat!

Perhaps is the b-wing from dark horse comics, repainted and with the last update of the cockpit (buttons and panels on sculpt)

I tore apart my Dagger squadron version to swap the cockpits on the POTJ one. At least this will make it official. I kind of regret it now but I am happy to get this updated! go K-mart! Their exclusives have no been too shabby lately.

As nice as pack-in figures are, I hope this release doesn't include a pilot. I have too many B-Wing pilots that don't have a ride... hopefully this release will allow me to fix that for one of them.

No pilot/figure is included (http://yakfaceforums.com/main/2011/05/12/new-b-wing-boxed-photo/)  :)

Terrific. I suppose people that don't have a B-Wing pilot will have another shot with the single carded "Revenge of the Jedi" release in the fall.

IIRC, Hasbro stated that they would be releasing Keyan Farlander on the B-Wing Pilot vintage card in the fall.

It'll probably have the updated cockpit, but most likely, like most vehicles these days will not have the weathering the POTJ version has.

Even though I have the POTJ B-Wing, this might be worth getting.

I'm looking forward to skipping this vehicle like the previous two releases.  ;)

I'm glad they show love for the more obscure vehicles. Just not a space fighter collector per se (though, thanks to garage sales, I've got a wing of old style X-Wings...mostly incomplete). My Farlander and Ten Numb figures will just have to sit around and play cards.

My vintage one looks like garbage now.  Even though I have a sentimental pull with it since it's mine from childhood it looks like hell.  I should get rid of it.  I let my 6 year old play with the POTJ one and then the 18 month decided to play with it as well.  So, now that one looks like it's been destroyed by the Empire.  Who knows where the heck the canopy went to?  Probably in the backyard.  There is some sort of sticky stuff on and in it to.  I am assuming a juice box or God knows what?   At any rate it would be nice to throw a nice new one somewhere.  However, I just don't know?  The temptation is there.  For some damn reason the vintage packaging makes me want to get it to.  I think it's a nice score for K-Mart.

Found mine today.  It was in the overstock, so look up.  $39.99.

...last weekend I saw shelf tags for it at the very bottom of the shelves, so I guess look down too.

It's a nice piece-- fully-assembled, no labels.  Lots of paint aps, great canopy, wonderful deco throughout but it's a little bland under the wings.  I love the paint job on the engines, there's some blue on the cylinders which rotate the wings.   I haven't popped in the rocket-firing guns yet to try those out.  Also, the canopy actually latches shut which my 1984 B-Wing does not. (I have but have not opened yet my 2001 and 2008 B-Wings for some reason.)

It's really good.  I think I paid $30 for my MISB one (which I opened, of course) back in 1989, so seeing this for $40 is something of a bizarre head trip.  Nice box, nice design, nice deco, good deal.  Can't wait for the Y-Wing now!

after looking at sandtroopers´review it seems that the tvc version have improved the paintjob (in some stripes, turbines, wings) only it appears like the interior of the cockpit has less details coloured than the tlc Dagger Squadron release.

The details are pretty decent, there wasn´t time for a bigger scale yet, but decoration on this sheep is evolving.

I picked up two of these yesterday. I actually have to respectfully disagree on the deco. The POTJ one is way superior because of the body wash.  The new b-wing is nice and they did add new paint details but the body wash that is missing really stands out when you compare them side by side. it's still worth getting. I will take side by side pics and post tonight for my peeps here on JD.

FYI - I upgraded my old POTJ B-Wing by dismantling the Daggr Squadren version. I took the new cockpit, front exhaust and the rear thrusters (with painted flames that the new B-Wing does not have) and swapped them with my old one. It looks awesome! i never shown it off.

anyone have the numbers on this set?  Tried to find it at retail today no luck - and the employee in the toy area wasn't about to go about digging in the back for it.

update:  here are the numbers

653569655190 (listed as SW Vintage B-Wing)

Hi newbie here!

Anybody in NYC know where I can purchase one?

Hey man, good to see a fellow NYer on here.

As far as I know, the only K-Marts in NYC is the one on 8th St and also the one by Penn Station. I don't think the K-Mart by Penn carries toys, so your best bet is the one on 8th Street. Having said that, I haven't found (or looked for) it yet.

Good luck!

Thanks for the response. I've actually checked both stores and neither one of them have it. The one at Penn station does carry toys but it is a very limited selection. I guess the search is still on. Thanks again!!!!

I used to work right near the Garden, and I went into the Penn Station K-Mart a couple of times.  There was a toy section at that time (some 10 yrs ago), but the pickings were pretty slim then.  It may be worth going if you're in the neighborhood.  Otherwise, you might have better luck in North Jersey, as there are a number of K-Marts there which are quite close to the city.

As for the store downtown?  I don't know how good your chances are going to be there.  There are at least two comic shops that are about a 2 minute walk from the 8th street store that are widely rumored to supplement their own stock with purchases from places like TRU and K-Mart.

I know of the two stores that you speak. One of them is st. Marks comics. Sometimes they have new stuff but right now it's mostly old legacy stuff as well as stuff their trying to get rid of. They also mark up their items twice as much as the regular price. If you need an item to complete or replace in your collection then I would suggest them. I'm trying to find the B-Wing for at least $40 like I did the Y-Wing. The problem is the kmarts in NYC suck. They don't even have it fir sale on their website. Thanks for the suggestions.

That's the problem, isn't it?  I don't know if you're in Manhattan or the outer boroughs, but if you can get access to a car there are at least half a dozen K-Marts that are are within 15 - 20 minutes of the GW Bridge in North Jersey.  This is where Zipcar can be your friend!

I hear what your saying about zipcar!

Yeah I live in manhattan. It sucks being a collector who doesn't drive. I guess I'm going have start learning how to and get on the open road. Jersey does sound like my best bet. Thanks

Finally got around to opening the B-Wing last night, and noticed that the rear section of the cockpit (the one on the other side of the ring that holds the cockpit assembly) seems to be misaligned.  I don't have a camera, but essentially, the blue stripes (that run from the front of the section to the back and *should* be on the top, bottom, and sides) are placed at 10-2-4-8 instead of 12-3-6-9.

It definitely adds some variety to the decos I already have on the shelves, but the rear section already has a small tapered area (above the screw hole) and having it positioned like this throws it off somewhat.  Again, it's more of an aesthetic thing, but does anyone know a quick/easy way to fix this so it's aligned properly?  And yes, I am completely insane. :)

Hey my fellow comrades,

Found ole B-wing today at k-mart in Penn station. Last one. Box is a 8 out of 10 so they gave me 10% off (original price $43.99). So I ended up paying 43 and change with tax. This info is for those looking in the NYC area. Feeling like the world is right, right now. BTW I heard from a good source that the big kmart in the Bronx (co-op city) bay Plaza area they have quite a few there. For those in NY or those visiting, check it out.

Make sure you guys are using the New York Finds Thread (http://www.jedidefender.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=8711.90) in our Mission Logs area...  With enough guys posting what they're finding (and looking for), the area could really grow and a lot of you could help each other out a good deal.  We'd even expand it to its own "child board" if the group gets active enough.

It's ok bellboy, to post in here.  I just hope I can get the NYC crew more involved as a cohesive group.  It's really to your own benefit to do so!  And with NYC being a difficult collecting location, everyone can use all the help they can get.  :)

Thanks Jesse.

And congrats on the find, bellboy. I'm going to try to hit the Union Sq K-Mart tomorrow around lunch time, as I'll be in the neighborhood.

I have the Saga B-wing, but I'd like to pick this one up as well, since it's one of my favorite fighters. Never got enough screen time in my opinion...and I really wish it had been included in the Empire At War video game. I'd love to see a few of those fighters in a surgical strike against an Imperial cruiser...

Picked up one of the $15 B-Wings on my way home from work. If your K-Mart still has them in stock, just go on in and they should ring up for $14.99.

I grabbed it so I could hang one from the ceiling in my collection area in the basement - already got it up too - looks awesome...

There's still two in Menomonie, Wisconsin as of Saturday.  It's not a short drive, but not unbearable.  One box is beat to crap at one, but still sealed.  The other is in very nice shape.  Until it fades in the sun anyway, they were outside on a clearance rack in the parking lot.

There's quite a few of these still here...  The extra 50% off wasn't a widely publicized thing it seems.

Those should be scanning at $29.99 McMetal...  I've never been to one that they didn't, so if your store still has them full price that's a rip off.

I guess so - when I scanned it at the store, I expected it to be higher - it said $14.99 ADV or something like that... come to think of it, I believe that all clearance toys are an extra 50% off for part of July at Kmart.
