Title: TLJ 3.75" Class A Creature/Droid Assortment
Post by: Jeff on July 19, 2017, 03:49 PM
Rumors of the return of the beast packs have been flowing for the past couple weeks, now early pics out of SDCC have confirmed them - first up, Rathtar and Bala-Tik from TFA:

Glad to see the return of creatures to the line.  And those Guavian Enforcers did need Bala Tik to round out the group.  But that figure also looks very much like it's 5 POA.  Perhaps the rumors of increased articulation have been exaggerated?

Nice.  Put me down for 3 Rathars.

Anyone need only Bala-Tik?

Bala Tik and what appears to be a scale Rathtar?  Poseable tentacles too perhaps!  I love it.  It's the toy the launch needed I think.  Some bitched about the Rathtars but I dug em.

When I saw them the first time, I thought that the Rathtar looked like a cross between a Madball and Audrey II from "Little Shop of Horrors".  But they really do grow on you!  And that scene on the Eravana is one of my favorites from TFA.  I'm glad to have this addition to the line.

Hmm, I kind of want this set, but I don't have any Guavians or Kanjiklub guys, mainly since they never showed up here, so Bala Tik would be kind of useless to me, moreso that it's 5POA. Guess I'll wait and see. Rathtar looks great though.

And now I don't have to buy that terrible Lego Rathtar set

That's one of those "buy it purely for the minifigs" sets we've been getting more and more of lately :-X

We'd need another Teedo done to ride Luggabeast.

Post by: Jesse James on July 21, 2017, 06:09 PM
I'd dig the Lugga Beast too.  Now is that the one at the well, or is that the one Teedo is on?  I'd kinda like Teedo's beast more than the well beast, but the well beast I'm ok with.

I'm gonna happily nab that Rathtar, but the others in the series I was really floored to see how nice they are.  Sure the figures are meh, but hey it gets Tik out of the way.  I'll still happily pick these sets up and the figures are just there.  That Wampa, the Probot, the Rathtar...  All just great looking toys.

The Happabore (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Happabore) is the beast at the well.  I'm not interested in that, just a luggabeast with Teedo.
Title: Re: TLJ 3.75" Scale Creature Assortment
Post by: Jesse James on July 21, 2017, 07:51 PM
I'd take the Happabore and well, but I'm easy.  I'll take just about anything unique that way.  I can't say Jakku was the most interesting though, overall, outside of the relics.  Teedo and the Luga are far cooler to me too.

Disney actually made a Happabore (https://www.amazon.com/Disneys-Star-Wars-Happabore-Squeezable/dp/B01M4S5DYO) that's close to the 1/18th scale of the 3.75" figures.  I've been tempted to get one, but then I haven't really been focusing on making any sort of a Jakku diorama.

Thanks Nick I may have my friends try and get me that if it's regularly available.

The telepathetic© Bor Gullet seemed less a beast and more just a guy with special skills, and ugliness.  I'd like to have him too even if he came in the beast line though but I didn't think he was much, if any, bigger than a regular figure.

From that YF UPC/DPCI data it looks like Luke and the Wampa are also part of this assortment.  And considering both the size and all of the articulation that seems to be on the Wampa, this format makes more sense than the figure 2-packs.

Because I should be doing something else - here are some hopeful sets we'll see in the future in this segment:

Luggabeast w/ Teedo or maybe Rey w/ X-Wing Fighter Helmet

Grummgar w / Bazine Natal

Crusher Roodown w/ Bobbajo

Picador w/ Geonosian Warrior

Held the Rathtar in my hands the other night, couldn't get them because the Kmart computers are now telling them not to sell.  Looked like they'd maybe put out the AWing and other junk...  possible someone bought stuff before I got there but not sure.  Just know that I was told nope.

Typical.

So close to fun, but denied.  Funny thing was how the girl put it behind the counter slowly line I was gonna grab it and run or something.  She started treating it like a bomb or something.  Just odd.

Glad Kmart appears to be getting stuff right away though because the last 2 years they were a ghost town for weeks after the toys were out elsewhere.  I'll use coupons and points to get stuff like the beasts and AWing if I can.

I stopped by one local K-mart after I heard the reports of TLJ stock leaking out early.  But once I saw the followup reports of the turndowns at the registers?  That stopped me from checking the other area K-mart stores.

I do have some hope for this format, at least on the front of the creatures.  The pack-in figures look like they're going to continue to be 5 POA, but the creature/droid is the big draw here.  Some other ideas?
-Nexu & Padme Amidala (AOTC arena battle)
-Dianoga & Luke Skywalker in Stormtrooper disguise (ANH)
-Hurid-327 & ME-8D9 (TFA)

holo-chess monsters in holo and solid versions! (This will never happen)

sando aqua monster with claw fish...it'll retail for $599.

Proper sized dagobah dragonsnake and R2-D2.  (Or is a proper sized one still too big for this assortment?)

Those icky spider things from Rebels with...I dunno...Sith eyes Ezra? You know it would be Ezra or Kanan.

I've seen a lot of complaints about the Rathtar's legs falling off, and I think they are a bit overblown.  I purchased three yesterday, and I've not had any real trouble.

I equate the legs to the landing gear on the BMF Falcon.  They have to go in the correct space.  The legs on the Rathtar are lettered...althoguh really hard to read.  Put them in the correct space and they do ok.

Post by: Jesse James on September 2, 2017, 08:29 PM
People have to sorta do the twist with em a good 5/10 times. Ack and forth.  They fit fine.  Anyone complaining isn't trying hard enough.  I will say I think the assembly required on this is  a bit beyond a kid.  Apparently adults too. :P

Haven't had any trouble with the one I have assembled so far. Have a 2nd one waiting to open, I'm hoping it's the same for that one as it was the first.

I saw a video of a guy complaining that it was (a) hard to get the legs in place and (b) that the legs kept falling off - I agree with Jesse, I just think he wasn't trying hard enough.

I continue to be amazed watching the price of the Rathtar drop at Amazon (http://amzn.to/2r2V44q).  Every few days, it drops a few pennies more... down to just $4.07 now.  Poor Rathtar. :(

Really hope that Wampa/Hoth Luke sets makes it out someday, but with so many wave 1 cases (2x Rathtar/1x Probe Droid) rotting and Rathtar not even selling out at 75% off?  Oof. Not good for the future beasts chances...
Title: Re: TLJ 3.75" Class A Creature/Droid Assortment
Post by: Darby on January 12, 2018, 03:19 PM
Not good at all.

As cool as the Rathtar set is, I don't understand the reasoning behind doubling up on what essentially is an obscure beast and an obscure character. I give Hasbro all the credit in the world for even taking a shot at this, but I would have favored the Probe Droid set in the mix. Not that the Droid sells any better, honestly. I don't know. Maybe things have changed. I hope we see the Wampa set, and others. A Fathier would have been neat, but I'm guessing that is unlikely now.

It is kinda fascinating and I’m glad I waited to get a 2nd one.  It’s a good toy!  Coulda been better with bendy arm tentacles but still not a bad toy.  Bala teek on the other hand?  Not so hot.

While it might spell trouble for them to get marked down that far, I've wanted three this whole time and couldn't justify $60 worth of them... so this works for me.  I just ordered 2 more.

If anyone needs a Bala Tik PM me.

Too much. I'll wait until they get to 99 cents store.

Actually, add-on item...i.e. a freaking hassle. Maybe not, I don't feel like breaking my pseudo-resolution by ordering $30 worth of anything.

I had to order another at that price as well, probably should have gotten two to have the set of three. Hard to pass up that good of a deal. Tacked on a couple basic figures like Hux for $4 (hadn't picked him up yet), and another Rose for $2 and change because why not. Actually a very well done figure, I think the sculpt might be better than the BS one actually.

It's amazing how much free space is in these boxes. I know it's to allow for the Wampa and hopefully other creatures down the line, but the Probe Droid and Rathtar are both super tiny inside the box. Rathtar is kind of eh, but the Probe Droid is a great piece.

Around me Targets have a lot of the Solo Class A vehicles/creatures, while Walmart’s have none. Walmart is working on $5 clearances of the Rathtar and the occasional Probot. I presume they will get the Solo assortment once they actually get Solo products. And then inevitably those will get clearances out too. Target will hold onto them at full price until after the holiday season.

I opened up both the Wampa and Imperial Probe Droid sets in the past couple of days.  Despite the pack-in figures being 5POA, the Wampa and the Viper Droid were pretty awesome right out of the box.  Although given the size of the Wampa and Probe Droid, the boxes dwarf what's in them.  But then Hasbro wants to sell these for $20 each, right?

The true evaluation of both the Wampa and the Probe Droid came when I put them in my storage containers.  I've got those themed for organizational purposes.  In the case of these?  One container has Hoth Luke, Han Solo, tauntauns, and the Wampa from 2003.  The other one had Hoth themed Imperials:  AT-AT Drivers, Snowtroopers, Vader and the old school POTF2 style Probe Droid.  Holding the old versions up to these new renditions was eye opening.  These new versions are amazing improvements over the older releases.  And I regret asking the question "Do we really need a new Wampa?" now.

When you buy something to just put in a storage container, you probably should stop collecting.

My storage bin collecting days mostly went away when I started opening stuff, but it annoys me to  no end when people tell other people this. Great decision for yourself. Others can decide for themselves

Agree with Nick - people should decide for themselves what, when, why, where, and how they collect.  No need to judge.

Seconded agreement.  I have scads of stuff in storage bins and I have good reasons for it, not that I even need the reasons.

No.  They're going on the shelves as soon as I can get things organized for display purposes.  But that's been more of a long term project than I had foreseen.

And unboxing is a good thing in terms of space.  Because the space that the boxes take up is considerable compared to the toy itself.

For the record, I wasn't judging....just wanted to give Nick a hard time!  :D

I have a bunch of stuff on display, but also have plenty of Rubbermaid bins full of stuff.

It does beg the question, just how many Wampas can you display?

I always go with the newest version (or the version I like the most) for display.

Older ones either get used for customs, thrown into one of my kids' toy boxes, stored for later, or sold off cheap.

My wife and I have started some discussions about moving sometime in the next 2 years... eek.  That means all my stuff will have to go into storage for a while.

The spare probe droids can always be used to fill out an Imperial diorama.  With the Wampas?  If my Hoth diorama gets to any sort of size beyond the scenes from TESB, I might make the infamous "Wampa room" that C-3PO pulled down the sign from, and use the old Wampas for that.

But then I look at old vehicles, and who really wants to display the old style X-wing compared with the upsized version that was first offered around 2002?  The same goes for A LOT of POTF2 era figures.  I am just at a loss about what to do with some of them because I really don't want to display about 80% of them unless it's the only rendition of a character.

I have a retired figs box that goes up in my shop...  should probably unload those but I'm reluctant to.

Probots I bought scads of for $5 and plan to do some varying decos with most of them.  They were used on the battlefield in EU so I'm sorta figuring they maybe came in various camo flavors if that's the case.

I have a couple extras from the TLJ blowout too and I'm tempted to try to turn one into a Solo Viper Droid from the Conveyex heist...

I would personally hold off on the customizing.  Simply because the SOLO version of the Viper droid screams "Shut up and take my money!"  They were one of the coolest droid designs we've seen since K-2SO in Rogue One.

I wish I had that luck. That set never made it to the $5 bin around here.

One wm never had many and another had so much of those wave of figures and stuff it was insane.  An endcap stuffed with mostly Rathtars but obviously a lot of probots got in there too.  Nuts on the Rathtars count tho.
