Revenge of the Sith / Re: ROTS carded figures
« on: December 7, 2004, 01:14 PM »
Hey, Lando!  I've got an idea.  Maybe we can go to Midnight Madness together again.  I'll buy the Clone, and let you open it.  Then, you can see if the action feature is bad or not.

Did anyone notice waht looks like a grass and roots base/stand in the Battle Droid package?

I think that we will see more of these.  I believe that only Anikin's has the yellow paint job.  The others, including Kenobi's, have the traditional Rebiblic red.  It is a cool ship, and I like it a whole bunch.  But I wonder if it has any landing gear, or if it just sits on the ground like that.

It's been a long time since I've posted.  My wife had a wonderful baby boy on October 1st, so it's been kinda busy around here.  Personally, I really have no problem with the action features, as long as the figures are not one-pose-wonders.  I still remember the day that all of the E2 prototypes showed up on line.  I have never felt more disapointed as a collector.  It was very tough for me to stomach those first waves of Saga.  They are still my least favorite Star Wars figures of all time.  Yes, I rate them lower than the 1995 steroid  figures.

Anyway, I think that Hasbro has managed to create some very solid, neutral sculpts while creating some extra play value with the slashin' and stuff.  Also (and this one is for you Lando the Scoundrel) I checked out the Saga Dooku with the action feature (activated by pressing his legs togehter) and his legs are movable.  The only thing keeping him from sitting down is his tunic.

So, at this moment, I am very excited about the E3 figures, and think that they might really do well and create some kid interest in SW.  I like the package too.  It doesn't really appeal to my tastes, but I think it's very contemporary and looks like fun.  I can't wait to see Collection 2 (and 3?)

I'll be in first line at Midnight Madness.

I think that the "tentacles" are smoke.  I'm serious.

"Is it possible to be cynical and optimistic at the same time?"

I think that's called being a realist.

You know waht's odd?  I belive that in the movie, that wookie just had some sort of senatorial sash across his chest.  Hasbro seems to have made it into a shoulder bag, like Chewie's.

"Rumors from the orient..."

What is this WWII?  Where is the original sorce of this rumor? $12.00 is just nuts.  The figure will be the same size, and no more than 5.99.

Now in 2006/7, I imagine Hasbro could make a more pricey, VOTC type line aimed at collectors.

OCB, I was just thinking the exact same thing.  I'm going to miss those monkey eyes.

Saga '02-'04 / Re: do you have too much stuff?
« on: June 22, 2004, 01:39 PM »
I also have a lot of stuff, and am moving into a house next week that I will have less space than I have now.  What I plan to do, and I'm hoping works, is to rotate what I have on display every few months.  The thing is, I'm a 36 year old man, so I don't actually "play" with my toys.  But by changing my displays now and then, I can spend time actually interacting with my collection, and not just looking at it.

Watto's Junk Yard / SW Toys in the Attic?
« on: June 15, 2004, 02:23 PM »
Hi.  My wife and I are moving into our new house in a few weeks, and I will be stroing my Star Wars collection in the attic for a while.  Has anyone ever had any problems with toys getting too hot in the attic?  Ours has two windows, and will eventually have a fan.  While growing up, we kept toys and records in our attic and had no problems, but I'm a little concerned about the soft plastic used in today's figures.

I have most of my open collection stored in plastic tubs.  I am thinking about putting it all into cardboard boxes so that everything can "breath."

Any tips or pointers would help.  Thanks---Speedermike

Hey, Nicklab, that person in your club (in the NJ/NYC area, right) might have seen the OTC stuff at Toy Tokyo.  They had the firrst waves there about 2 weeks ago.

There's a problem here though...what if you were a kid and you wanted a "regular" (Tatooine) Luke Skywalker.
You would either have to buy a 10.00 VOTC figure, or a 30.00-40.00 set of figures.  That's just not good business.

While I have no interest in the HOF figures, I am glad to see them on the pegs, and to tell you the thruth, I see kids and parents
looking at  them often.

We must remember, that with the DVDs new kids will come to Star Wars who want the main players, not old men like Ozzel, and Dodonna.

Man, this is a whiney thread...Guys, listen up...These Are Not For Us!  They are for new kids coming to Star Wars who have never, ever, ever bought a SW product before. Yes, people like that exist. Not everyone is like us.

Personally, I think these are nice sets.  Will I buy them?  No.  I'm a loose collector.  In fact, I think hasbro made a good decision to only include old figures.  We would all be totally p*ssed off if there was a new one in there with other old figs.

Anyway, I aslo see these as products that will see in non-toy specific retail places like Blockbuster or Suncoast, or even Best Buy.  They are sets that are made to be displayed along side the DVDs.

I agree that it would be nice to see some VOTC style Prequel figs.  I'd even go so far as to see them on the reproduction vintage styled crds. Now that would cause some discussion!

Y'know, looking at the VOTC, and even the rgeular OTC , makes me wonder why in the world Hasbro ddin't do this back in 1995.  I would have gone totally ape-sh*t if I had seen these figures on these cards back then.  And personally, I know two collectors who wanted to collect in 1995, but were put off by the sculpts and packaging.

Anyway, all this stuff looks good, but I feel sorry fopr carded collectors who will be going nust trying to tack all of these down.
