Title: Most Wanted Vehicles
Post by: Brian on April 23, 2008, 04:30 PM
I was going to call this "Vehicle Wishlists", but that's more Scott's domain, so I'll just leave this as a want list.  With the pictures, speculation, and announcements of the new vehicles (in various sizes) coming this year - it looks like newly sculpted vehicles are definitely back on Hasbro's radar.  After seeing that things like the Falcon, AT-TE, and others can be done - which vehicles would you like to see done at this point?  It can be OT, PT, EU, resculpted vehicles from the vintage/POTF2 days - or whatever you are interested in.  What are your vehicle wants at this point.  Here's a few I can think of:

Cloud Car (again, the old standby, probably a longshot but I'd like to see it)
Tantive IV (again, a long shot, but I'd take any new OT vehicle)
Snowspeeder (newly scaled sculpt)
AT-ST (newly scaled sculpt)
Jabba's Sail Barge (unlikely, but it would be cool)
Lars Family Speeder
Speederbike (new, clear stand included)

Juggernaut/Turbo Tank
Darth Maul's Sith Starfighter (larger scaled sculpt)
Gungan Bongo (Probably in the minority here, but after re-watching TPM on Spike TV, I thought this might be kind of a cool vehicle to have.  Its not too terribly big, and pretty much the only underwater type thing we see in the movies for the most part)
Dooku's Solar Sailor
Bail Organa's Airspeeder

I'm sure there are lots of others I'm forgetting, but those are a few off the top of my head.  Like I said, my most wanted ones would probably be newly sculpted vehicles from the OT - whether it is for improvements in scale or just something that hasn't been done (Cloud Car).  I'm not an expert on scale (I'll leave that to Jesse), but I'd be all for any that could be done reasonably close to scale - or that add in features/etc. to make them amazing (Falcon).

Great topic and good list Brian.

I'd also add:
CIS Tank (Snail) Droid
Rik shaw w/RIK droid
TX-130 Saber tank (as seen in several video games and comic books)

Below is a list I compiled for a Vehicle run-off poll (for never before made in the modern line) on another site, to gauge what collectors on that site wanted. From this list we had three rounds of voting and came up with the top 5 from this list. Undoubtedly some vehicles didn't make this list, but as you can see, it's pretty far reaching for "most wanted" vehicles.
The top ten from that poll in order were:
1. Jabba’s sail barge
2. Twin-pod cloud car
3.Gungan Bongo
4. Dooku’s Solar Sailer
5. Corporate Alliance tank droid(aka Snail Droid)
6. Clone Turbo Tank (aka Juggernaut)
7. Rebel Blockade Runner
8. TIE Defender
9. Virago
10. MTT

Here was the initial list we started with:

Well Sal, I think you just killed this thread.   :P   ;)

In all seriousness though, I'm getting a bit burnt out on repacked vehicles so a few more new ones would be welcome.  And with the Falcon and AT-TE coming out, I'm pretty satisfied with what we're getting for a while.

Some of the ones that I do want to see at some point are rather large, such as a Sail Barge or Star Destroyer.  Those would probably be so damn big that I'd classify those as playsets.  Kind of like the Black Pearl or the USS FLAGG, or even the Defiant Space Shuttle.  Those two are just a given that I want to see them made, but I don't consider them to be vehicles per se in terms of being part of a toy line.

So, in regards to what I consider vehicles (something the size of the AT-AT, AT-TE or smaller), here's what I'd like to see over the next couple years... going to pick just two different ones from each film to keep it simple (though I'm sure Hasbro is going to show more emphasis on vehicles from the cartoon and live TV series than the films for a while).

The Phantom Menace
- Battle Droid Carrier
- Coruscant Taxi

Attack of the Clones
- Padme's Ship
- Nemoidian Shuttle

Revenge of the Sith
- Tank Droid
- Theta Class Shuttle

A New Hope
- Imperial Landing Craft
- Lars Family Speeder

The Empire Strikes Back
- Hoth Trooper Transport
- Cloud Car

Return of the Jedi
- Desert Skiff (larger sized than the existing mold)
- AT-ST

Expanded Universe
- AT-XT
- AT-PT

I have never been much of a vehicle guy, even as a kid. WIth that said there are a few i would like.

My #1 is without a doubt Jabba's Sail Barge. I would buy it and spend a lot for it.

2. More in scale Sandcrawler

3. Cloud Car - never understood why i like it

4. Lars Famly Speeder

5. Virago

These come to mind:

Tantive IV (with features and details similar to the TLC Falcon)
Cloud Car
Rebel Transport (from hangars on Yavin and Hoth)
Royal Guard TIE Interceptor
TX-130 Tank
Corporate Alliance Tank Droid
Droid Gunship
Firespeeder
Bail Organa's Airspeeder
Padme Amidala's Starship (the one on Tatooine and Geonosis)

This is all I can think of for now, I'm sure I'll think of more vehicles I like later.

Great topic! :)

Bigger Jawa Sandcrawler
Clone Turbo Tank (Juggernaut)
Cloud Car
Scaled Snowspeeder
Rebel Transport
Droid Gunship
New Sculpt At-St
Tatooine Skiff (Scaled better)

not on my list but Jabba's Sail Barge would cool, but prefer if they did an huge Jabba's Palace playset.

I'd like the Raven's claw from the Jedi Outcast video game and the Ebon Hawk from the Knights of the Old Republic game.
Title: Re: Most Wanted Vehicles
Post by: Jesse James on April 24, 2008, 01:46 AM
Since I'm pretty particular my list is likely to be shorter...  I'm trying to think realistically on the matter too, so no "scale Falcon" or "Scale AT-AT" listings from me as much as I'd love to have either.  Anyway, here's my list...  Suffice it to say, I want everything to-scale as well...  No cheating on things. ;)

Prequals:
(I'm not counting "walking droids" in my list, just ones that roll on treads or fly, as they're more vehicle-like to me...  The others are more like larger figures, like a giant Octupara droid I'd love, or the upcoming spider droid.)

-Droid "Snail" Tank Droid (Kashyyyk beaches)
-Droid Troop Transport (Episode 1 and Kashyyyk beaches)
-Droid Gunship
-Wookiee Catamaran
-AT-OT (built off an AT-TE frame)
-Dooku's Solar Sailer
-Neimoidian Shuttle
-Clone Swamp Speeder
-Palpatine's Shuttle

Original Trilogy:

-Cloud Car
-Lars Family Speeder
-Round Speeder thing (Mos Eisley streets)
-Yavin & Hoth Transport Sleds
-ANH:SE Swoop w/Rider

Resculpts (probably my longer list):

-Speederbike...  (Smaller, more properly scaled with a "hover" clear stand for it)
-Snowspeeder...  (Smaller, more detailed cockpit interior)
-Imperial AT-ST...  (Hoth)
-Imperial AT-ST...  (Endor)
-X-Wing...  (Larger, more sturdy design, no "lights/sounds" features)
-Y-Wing...  (Larger, removable droid)
-B-Wing...  (Larger)
-Anakin's Speeder...  (Larger, more detailed)
-Zam's Speeder...  (Larger, more detailed and better designed)
-Outrider...  (Definitely doable to-scale, it's not a big ship by any means).
-Slave-I...  (Both OT and PT paintjobs for this to-scale beauty)
-Imp. Shuttle... (If all 3 wings were removalbe, it's incredible doable to-scale)
-ARC-170 Starfighter... (Larger)
-Republic Gunship... (Larger & new functional gunpods)
-Jabba's Skiff's...  (Larger)

Expanded Universe:
-Kyle Katarn's Moldy Crow (Dark Forces/Jedi Knight series)
-Azzameen Family's YT Freighter Otana (X-Wing: Alliance)
-Z-95 Headhunter
-R-41 Starchaser (X-Wing/TIE Fighter series)
-Skipray Blastboat
-Bossk's Hound's Tooth
-IG-88's IG-1000
-Space Tug (X-Wing/TIE Fighter series)
-Stormtrooper Transport (X-Wing/TIE series)
-T-Wing Starfighter (X-Wing/TIE series)
-TIE Defender  (X-Wing/TIE series)
-TIE "Avenger" Advanced  (X-Wing/TIE series)
-TIE Phantom
-TIE "Boarder" Boarding Craft (omitted from ANH)
-Cygnus Assault "Starwing" Gunboat (X-Wing/TIE)
-Cygnus Missleboat (X-Wing/TIE)
-Assaj Ventress' "Fanblade" Fighter
-Slave II/Pursuer Class Vessel
-Rebel Light Hover Tank (Force Commander)
-Rebel Heavy Tracked Tank (Force Commander)
-Rebel Medium Hover Tank (Rogue Squadron)
-Rebel Mobile Proton Torp. Launcher (Force Commander)
-Rebel Hover Transport/Speeder (Force Commander)
-Rebel Combat Airspeeder w/rear Quad Gun (Force Commander)
-Rebel Combat Swoop (Force Commander)
-Imperial AT-PT (Force Commander/Various)
-Imperial Tank Patrol Droid (Rogue Squadron)
-Imperial Troop Transport-Ground (Force Commander)
-Imperial Charriot LAV (West End Games)
-Imperial Tracked Shield Disabler (Force Commander)
-Republic AT-XT (the actual precursor to the AT-ST)
-Republic Saber-Class Hovertank

And that's my list.  I'd love lots of EU vehicles as there's an assload of good designs...  Some not so good ones too.  I left off probably a dozen fighter types from the X-Wing/TIE Fighter games there, some random vehicles you see in other games and EU...  I am sure I could open up the old WEG RPG's and find a ton of fantastic designs I'd love to see to-scale some day...  Force Commander was a wealth of great land-based vehicle designs too for the ALliance and Empire alike...  I'm not anywhere near hopeful to see 99.9% of that list...  A Defender seems to at least be on their radar though.  I could see some of the CW vehicles coming out too.  How could they pass on Ventress' Fanblade Fighter?  It's such a wicked design I'd love to see...  We're getting Torrent's so maybe the Fanblade has a shot.

Still though, most of those aren't anywhere even on their radar at this point.  I'm much more hopeful on the resculpt list though, especially the Speederbike (which I've slipped into the Q&A and was well received  :-X ), the Snowspeeder, and the AT-ST.

There's actually not much left that I need for vehicles.  However, I think the TIE Defender would be pretty sweet to see.

Ideally:

Cloud Car
Slave 1 (new larger scale)
At-St (new larger scale - 2 seater)
At-At (new larger scale - 2 decker)
Snowspeeder with modified cockpit

I was joking... i.e., you created such a great/massive list that it's hard to follow up after that!   :)
Title: Re: Most Wanted Vehicles

Such an easy question, and I have to go ahead and butcher up my answer  :P.  I've customized a vintage Cloud Car to my satisfaction, therefore it would be unlikely that I'd buy a new one.  Further, the Sailbarge and Sandcrawler are SO huge to be in-scale (and I think those two need to be in scale to look right), that I'm happy with the diorama partials I've made of each of those (acting more like playsets than vehicles).  And lastly, I've dramatically altered the AT-ST to get a pretty close movie version, so that's off my list too.  So that leaves for me, OT-only, non-SE versions of:
1) AT-AT: don't expect it to be scale, but they could at least keep the head size of the original and upscale the body while lengthening the legs.
2) Snowspeeder: smaller scale like JJ describes, with a stellar paintjob.
3) Speederbikes with the proper handles and paintjob/details of the ROTJ version.
4) Lars landspeeder: would be a cool background item for a garage diorama.

The only vehicles I really want are:

Jabba's Sail Barge
Blockade Runner
Red Jedi Crusier (Red one from EP1)
AT-ST Scaled/retooled.

I am very picky when it comes to sculpts but I never understood the complaints on the Snowspeeder. IO think that ship still holds up an while it may be a tad big I think its a solid toy. Also I am surprised to see a larger scale x-wing request. We have that one already......maybe it's me.
Title: Re: Most Wanted Vehicles

We had it, but it's about 80% to-scale and for me I want one 100% to-scale...  Same for the Snowspeeder.  I want the dinky thing we see in the movies that's no bigger than a Y-Wing cockpit section rather than a Snowspeeder that dwarfs the Starfighters we have. ;)

I think that it's a matter of whether scale is important or not...  As much as I want a Sailbarge, I wouldn't want one done half-assed in size, so I'd rather see things Hasbro can do like starfighters or speeders then.  I'd say the Snowspeeder, AT-ST, and Speederbike are my 3 top resculpt wishes because they're the 3 most in need and likely to happen...  Starfighters are getting a bit bigger, however they're completely doable considering other toy lines put out 1:18 scale aircraft.  Other larger craft like Slave-!, B-Wing, etc. are then pushing the envelope a bit further.

I think considering the Falcon and AT-TE now, any of those are possible...  They'd all be well under $100, but certainly more than $30.  I also don't hold out much hope for many of them though because Hasbro's not looking to start a to-scale vehicle club either, it's just what I'd prefer.  I've resigned myself to the fact I'll likely have to produce my own of almost all of those, rather than wait for Hasbro to do them.  Someday when I'm older and have the more heavy free time on my hands, perhaps they'll get done.

My mock-up great-dane sized AT-AT has been collecting dust for almost 10 years, so patience is a virtue with me in that aspect of the hobby.  :-[

I can think of a few vehicles that could stand to be done as well as re-done.

EPISODE I
-Naboo N-1 starfighter - w/ vac metal parts, and working droid socket (which would require an R2 unit with telescoping dome)
-Trade Federation Battle Droid transport - I think this has a much greater likelihood of being made than the MTT.  The MTT is just huge, and this seems like a more attainable goal with some genuine play value.  As for getting my own MTT fix, I think that I might have to make do with tracking down the Pepsi MTT cooler.
-Gungan Bongo - This plays a  relevant enough role in TPM that it could do well with the kiddie audience

EPISODE II
-Dooku's Solar Sailor
-Republic Gunship - Carrier
-Rickshaw droid

EPISODE III
-Republic Assault Gunboat
-Yoda's Kashyyyk escape pod
-Droid Gunship
-Droid Tank
-Wookiee Catamaran
-Bail Organa's speeder
-Clone Turbo Tank
-Theta class shuttle
-Imperial V-Wing

EPISODE IV
-Imperial Landing Craft
-Rebel Hangar pilot transport

EPISODE V
-Snowspeeder - resized - The snowspeeder is really a small vehicle, and you can see the most striking contrast between the cockpit of the vintage toy (your figures swim in there) and the cramped cockpit of the vehicle in TESB.
-Twin pod cloud car

EPISODE VI
-Jabba's Sail Barge
-AT-ST - new sculpt - the scenes with Chewbacca and the Ewoks in the AT-ST really showed that the vehicle should be a twin seater.  Given the current state of the AT-AP, a more accurate AT-ST should be an attainable goal.

EXPANDED UNIVERSE
-Ebon Hawk - Why not go for one of the coolest EU ships of all time?

Check this one out! (Not to scale with the figures, but an awesome scratch built nonetheless.

I'd buy this if it was to scale and all the right panels could come off for interior access. I spent hours on that ship in KOTOR. Feels almost lilek a second home, lol.

That is really cool...but isn't it red?

Still though, most of those aren't anywhere even on their radar at this point.  I'm much more hopeful on the resculpt list though, especially the Speederbike (which I've slipped into the Q&A and was well received   ), the Snowspeeder, and the AT-ST.

I hadn't ever really realized how off the snowspeeder was until Jesse brought it to our attention in an earlier thread a year or two back.  I'm not near the expert on scale as he is, but I was just looking at the databank today - and just as an example, the length of the A-wing is listed as 9.6 meters and the length of the snowspeeder is listed as 5.3 meters.  I'm not sure, but I thought Jesse also mentioned one time that the A-Wing was close to being correct (if I'm remembering correctly), and if that is the case then the snowspeeder could definitely be smaller.  I'm hoping for a new sculpt for this as well, and it should easily be able to fit into the $20 starfighter line.  I would like to see more OT vehicles in that line the way it is.

Very cool stuff Sal!  Building a scratch model has got to be one of the most impressive things one can do in modeling.  But I'm equally puzzled by the new paint scheme.

I think I prefer the blue on it.

The Ebon Hawk's definitely red, and was a good choice on Nick's list for sure.  I'd be down for a Sith Fighter too really to accompany it.  Very cool ship indeed.

If you're ever curious on scale about the Snowspeeder, the concept for the snowspeeder was actually that the Rebels had frankensteined the cockpits of Y-Wings.  It's supposed to be that small.  The real tell-tale is the lifesize prop though and how cramped the pilots are in it.  That's one of the few times a prop's lifesize replica matched its model counterparts.  The EU airspeeder actually got the scale pretty accurate for that item, and that was ultimately the art that most closely matches the final snowspeeder.  Teeny tiny...  I guess that's one of the advantages of "speeders" over simply using fighters, is that they're a fraction the size and generally more maneuverable [/eu geek].

I agree the vintage is a great toy, but for accuracy it's just off.  Kind of like the POTF2 Luke speeder compared to the Saga resculpt.  Night and day to me.

An Ebon Hawk would be amazing, but I'd like to see the crew made before we see the ship. At least a Carth or Atton to pilot the ship.

The choice of blue instead of the correct red was at the discretion of the buyer of the model. I couldn't say why they'd want the blue vs the correct red.

Probably because some people like to use a bit of creative licensing with their customs.
