Title: Glueing figures to the dio
Post by: Phrubruh on May 17, 2007, 05:52 PM
After playing with most of the figures you guys have sent I've noticed that some of them will not stand on their own without a base. Any suggestions on how to secure these figures to the board? I'm thinking poster tack or even a small dot of krazy glue.

As someone who still isn't a fan of gluing figures down unless it is absolutely neccessary I'm vetoing dremmeling into figures at all. No hot glue either. Hot glue leaves strings and those look horrible. I think if we reall absolutely have to glue anything a small dab of poster tack is the way to go. MAYBE a small dot of krazy glue, only on the ones that won't stand up to save their lives though.

I'd be in favor of either poster tack or small dabs of glue.  However, my experience with poster tack is that its not great at holding up the weight of a figure.  Hopefully we can get in there and "reset" anything that inadvertendly falls.

You guys need some Museum Wax. I picked some up last year at an art supply store.

I said glue a while back, and still think its the best thing to do.
The problem i see with the post-it tacky stuff is that
it wont stick to the sandy or grassy terrain so the figures will still fall.

I guess if it's a very, VERY small amount of Krazy Glue, just on the underside of each foot or so, it should be all right, and should be easy to pull the figures back off without doing much damage.  Perhaps another option is to use the Krazy Glue were used ONLY on the really difficult terrains (grass, etc.) and poster tack elsewhere?

Another risk of using super glue -- in the case of my own figures -- is that the stuff stains fabric REALLY BAD.  I can trust you to be REALLY REALLY careful, can't I?  :)

I think I have seen that stuff at Michaels before. Worth the look in any case if you want to go that route.

I've never used their Putty, but the Wax is super. I got it for my Mattel JLU figures (some of the worst standing figures around) and it works great. A teensy bit goes a long way and it's practically invisible. I also had heard Micheals carried but I didn't see it at the one near me.

If there's a consensus on the adhesive, please let me know and i'll pick it up before Wednesday.

How about double sided tape?

I use stick glue myself ( it keeps my first generation Han stable on the shelf). It's the kind you twist at the bottom. It won't work on sand or loose surfases though. I would use an improvised peg for those.

whatabout double sided scotch tape, my boss uses that crap all the time, it's annoying when you reach for the tape and it's... DOUBLE SIDED!!!

I think you can get it at walmart... and it's clear and sticky as heck...
