I started on a new small dio the other day, the Cloud City torture scene. Studying the pics of the movie set, I noticed that the walls are weathered metal siding (like a tin roof), the floor is a reddish color, and there is a small control room off to the left. So I made the floors and wall from cardboard with the top layer ripped off and foamcore, respectively. The wall struts are strips of very soft craft wood (and will be what I use to make the struts that hold up the slatted ceiling). There are 2 wall "seats" (similar to the slab that they lay Han on after he's tortured) sticking out the wall in this scene, so I made them from foamcore and painted them gloss black. The lighting in my room makes the floor look a bit more orange than it really is; the spraypaint was actually red oxide primer from WM. I included a couple pics for scale, but I still have quite a lot of work to do on the ceiling, column struts, and control room background. More to come!

That is looking very good. Can't wait to see more!

8) You build the most sweetest lookin' Dioramas.
-
That looks fantastic.
I love this kind of thing...the cardboard walls is an inspired and resourceful approach. Already this is looking bang-on...love the color choice as well.
-
You are off to a great start as always Greg. I'll be really interested to see how this one turns out. I love your use of the cardboard ribbing for the walls. The color choice looks just about right from what I remember.

He will not be permanently damaged.

Today I made the little control room off to the left, and an unpainted first part of the ceiling. Tomorrow I hope to do more with the ceiling and start on the struts.

Today I spraypainted the ceiling part and hot glued it in place. I also made the ceiling trim for the transition from wall to ceiling (it's kind of in shadow in the pics). I also made the 4 posts that will hold up the slatted ceiling parts, from strips of balsa wood and foamies. Those will be spraypainted dark grey shortly.

Excellent update. It already look fantastic from the get go, but now...

Here are a couple pics of the painted struts that will soon hold up the slatted ceiling (which is a labor intensive b!tch, by the way :p).

Well, when you were showing the WIP pictures, it was impressive. Now it's obvious you're just showing us film footasge from ESB. ;D
Seriously, awesome job. Can't wait to see it finished.

Really like it so far. The supports look great, and if you're going for the same kind of detail with the ceiling piece, I don't doubt the labor-intensity involved. I have no doubt it will be worth it.

Here are several pics of the 95% done stage, I think. All that's left is the circular ceiling part above Han's head (sort of a large vent looking thing). Thanks for all the great comments and encouragement ;D

Man...that dio rules! The roof and struts really help make the room look even more menacing than the torture rack.
-
This set look so much better than the figures occupying it. :-X

Well done! That's sweet! You've got an eye for detail.
