The Vintage Collection / Re: 2023 TVC Jabba’s Court Denizens 4-Pack

Count me in on being excited for this release!  Seeing new, never before made OT characters in the Vintage Collection shouldn't be a big deal, but in actuality it is.

Of course, some in the TVC social media circles are looking at "Who's Next" from Jabba's Palace.  They haven't even recycled the shipping boxes yet, but this is the collector mindset at work.

Other Collectibles / Re: The Black Series -- 1:1 Helmet Replicas
« on: September 25, 2023, 08:25 AM »
I've been seeing these a good deal at GameStop.  One store had at least 3 different helmets in stock a few days ago - the 332nd Clone Trooper, Bo-Katan and the Artillery Stormtrooper.  I've seen the Darth Vader helmet more recently at Target.  And Hasbro seems to be responding to demand because they're offering the Red 5 helmet again, too.  The Captain Rex helmet is really tough to resist.  With as many clones as Dee Bradley Baker portrayed, Captain Rex was such a well developed character.  And seeing Rex portrayed in live action was amazing.

But I agree with Nick - the space these require to be displayed properly is a serious challenge!  Does anyone know if these would fit in an IKEA Detolf?  I've seen images of the helmets resting on top of them.  And I also have to wonder if Hasbro will get around to offering some kind of a helmet display pedestal at some point.  It might make for a nicer way to show these off rather than sitting on a shelf.

Old stock seems to be making it back out there with both Hasbro and Disney!  The Droid Depot 5-pack from Galaxy's Edge from a few years ago has popped back up on Shop Disney.  No vault to be seen with that set.  So I wonder if that might be the case at some point with D3-09?

I ordered it from Pulse.  HK-47 and the meatbag, errr, REVAN, will be a nice addition to the line!

I found this the other day in Walmart, and again yesterday in Target.  It's nice when you can actually find things on the shelves!  But the price tag on this is still questionable.

But I was definitely struck by how much an older Ezra looks like his father.

My daughter asked why he looks like Jesus.  :P

Definitely seemed like he was a hippie living in a turtle shell camper on the side of the road.

I saw someone reference what looks like chainmail that Ezra was wearing.

A closer look revealed that it was composed of the dogtags of Stormtroopers.  Ezra has clearly been.... busy!

I’m wondering if they will flash back to explain that as well. I mean, the Purrgil had literally broken through all the windows on the bridge, and I’m no physics major but I’m pretty sure you can’t go through hyperspace Al Fresco  :D

I just figured there were emergency shields that keep the atmosphere from venting.

Same!  It's best not to invoke physics when it comes to Star Wars.

Thrawn sure can make a hell of an entrance!  And not a bad parking job by the Chimaera, either.

The Night Sisters seemed like a beautiful blend of what we had seen before with Mother Talzin on Dathomir, while drawing on the archetype of three witches - the Stygian witches and the Three witches in MacBeth come to mind.  And their abhorrence of the Jedi seems like something that we should definitely pay attention to.

Baylan Skoll seems to be acting much more in his own interests now rather than as an agent of Thrawn or Morgan Elsbeth.  It seems clear that he needed a ride, because he has been in search of something grander.  I suspect that's going to bring him into conflict with the Night Sisters.

The Howler was hilarious!  And it was great to see a creature with that kind of personality executed so well.  As for the reunion?  It seemed almost pre-destined.  And I suspect that the next conversation between Sabine and Ezra will not go as well.  But I was definitely struck by how much an older Ezra looks like his father.

The Vintage Collection / Re: 2024 TVC Wave 1 (New TVC Wave 33)
« on: September 22, 2023, 04:40 PM »
Feel free to modify the link for sponsorship, Jeff.  Here's the listing for the case of this wave from EE:

Pre-Order Link: https://ee.toys/YR8PZR  #ad #sponsoredlinks

This Star Wars The Vintage Collection Action Figures 2 Wave 3 case contains 8 individually packaged figures:
1x Chopper (C1-10P)
2x General Hera Syndulla
2x Pre Vizsla
1x Darth Revan
1x Director Orson Krennic
1x R5-D4 (The Mandalorian)
(subject to change)

.......

I have to say, I'm a little shocked to see 6 characters in an 8 figure case!  But this will definitely deter any kind of pegwarming - that is, if the retailers get the case assortment and not solid cases.

The Vintage Collection / Re: 2023 Hasbro Pulse Con TVC Reveals

I wasn't even going to bother ordering the TVC figures on Hasbro Pulse.  I'm waiting until Amazon lists them because Pulse has a 2 figure limit on pretty much everything on the store.  And for TVC figures I've been leaning more towards 3 of each lately.

Mine arrived today.  Damn, that box is big!  This thing is gonna light a fire under my ass to get my displays together.

I definitely expect that we'll see Krennic tomorrow.  Beyond that, IDK.  The 29th will be the day that Hasbro is doing media tours at Toy Fair.  I guess it comes down to how much does Hasbro want to hold back for Toy Fair.  Or are they just going to have everything that gets shown at Hascon available for people to photograph in person the following week?

Secondary market prices on D3-09 seem to be going up as we get closer to the closure of the Galactic Starcruiser.  And it leaves me wondering what will happen with these figures.

So I have been taking a look at the calendar lately with an eye towards Hasbro's 12 - 18 month development timeline.  All while factoring in their "We saw it when you saw it" take on some characters first appearances in movies or Disney+ series.  And the estimated delivery date for this set actually lines up with that timeline.  And IIRC, the Grand Inquisitor should be showing up around that time as well.

I feel like the OWK series was somewhat unique in that we got figures of show characters fairly close to the premiere of the series.  But we're just coming off of this pretty substantial TBOBF mini-beat where Hasbro offered at least 3 basic figures, a convention exclusive and the Tusken 4-pack within the space of 2 or 3 month - and at the end of that 18 month window!  So does anyone think that we're likely to get much more from the OWK series?  And what other OWK characters are you hoping to get if we're almost in this next Hasbro TVC "mini-beat"?

With this version of Darth Vader, I thought there was an obvious choice for the image on the cardback.

Or...

But watching the scene, these are really tight closeups, and the shot composition is very much horizontal - intended to fill the frame.  A cardback filmout needs to be more vertical.

Plus there's the lighting - or lack thereof.  The incidental lighting of the glow of the lightsabers is all there is.  And when it goes from blue to red?  That red does not read well on the black of Vader's helmet.  It makes the exposed face look demonic, but the definition of the rest of the helmet is somewhat lost.

Hasbro has definitely done some heavy lifting in the past with cardback artwork on TVC cards - the deleted scene figures, the realistic Clone Wars renditions, etc.  This would have been a similar case.  So it leaves me wondering if this was a call on the part of Hasbro's packaging design people?  Or perhaps Lucasfilm wanted something more neutral?
