Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Super Hero/Comic Book Movies

Also, I noticed some subtle things in it that seemed to hint at what they think about some of the talk in society from some people that they don't need God a part of people's lives.  I thought with how this movie says how the world needed Superman, and and what seemed like several times hints at how mankind needs to have a Savior to look forward to, really was hitting at something deep inside what makes people who we are, and really liked that
Quote

There was a strong Christ allegory in the film, topped off with Supes falling, arms spread after getting rid of the continent.

I loved the film.  Routh was perfect, Spacey was fantastic (Parker Posey too!) and I thought Bosworth did a fine job as well.  The nods to the original films were great.   I had goosebumps during the open and also just before the credits.

Left wide open for a sequel- what did Kal-El find in his years in space and how did he get on that ship.

I liked the way Singer implied that Supes stores power from the sun like a battery.

Superman is my all-time favorite superhero film, and this one is right up there near the top.

I would love a line of Indy figures.  One of my cats is named Brody after Denholm Elliot's character.

My fiancee is on notice that no matter what breed we get, our first dog will be named Indiana, since that was the dog's name.

I'm bothered by racists myself, but oddly enough, I find that I've encountered more of them online than anywhere else I've ever lived.

That is because of the "safety" internet anonymity provides.  Most of these idiots are probably too cowardly to "be racist" in person.

I used to shave down with just clippers, but now I shave down with a razor in the shower.  Takes a few minutes, but it looks better.  I was going bald anyway, and this just looks better than those dudes that fight nature.

By all means give an explanation on how this works...

I think somewhere an Australian just **** his pants.

Now THAT was funny.  He'll be the next Bill Gates.

So let me make sure that I'm clear on this:

Daughter gave a false age
19 year old told her that he was on the Senior football team, so she thought he was . .what. . 17 0r 18 instead of 19.
Daughter still met with dude.

Oh yeah.  Definitely Myspace's fault.

Yup  :)

If you give a gun to a chimp (or 2 chimps), and the chimp shoots somebody, you don't blame the chimp.

I think a better way of putting it would be that you don't blame the gun manufacturer, you blame the person that provided the gun.

I'm in class right now and can't google it. . .but I'm hoping from what was promised on Seinfeld that they are real, and they are fabulous!

It's....

They're real.......and they're spectacular!

Regardless. . .a quick google when I got home revealed that they're real, but far less than spectacular.

Unfortunately, I thought you might feel that way.  Total letdown.

Also, the porn industry award is the Hot D'Or as evidenced by the post above.  Wouldn't it be funnier if it were the Hairy Palm D'Or?

I hear you on that.  I work for the schools now, and I can't believe how many hotties they have for teachers.  Truly leaps and bounds beyond the old ladies with tight polyester pants and big asses.  Blech!

FYI for all you Aurebesh geeks out there, the console on the Senate Pod reads: "SW Fans Rule"

A nice little nod from Hasbro

I'm surprised it didn't say "Star Wars fans are suckers!"

Feh.  MySpace is jus the latest "evil" the media has picked up on.  First it was e-mail then chat rooms then blogging and now this.  I did an interview with Reuter's afew weeks back and near the end of the interview, I told him to watch out for outrage over www.youtube.com that is coming.  MySpace, like all teen fads, is nearly over by the time the news and such report about it.

The best thing to do is to teach children about the dangers of sharing too much private info publicly.  Keeping your nose in your kids' business is probably a good idea too.

Saga Collection '06 / Re: Chase/UGH figures: what's the big deal?
« on: April 10, 2006, 07:09 AM »

But you're right, there is no big deal, except for the fact that these are continuing to be a a "hot" item because every Hot Wheels guy is hoarding them up and making them even more difficult to track down than they should be.

That's the biggest problem I have with this whole idea; Hasbro is enticing the quick-buck speculator/Hot Wheels guy to the SW aisle.  You don't need to do crap like this to draw in fans of SW.  In reality, this is probably giving the regular SW collector more difficulty finding what they want.

Plus Hasbro's not dumb.  They know that there is a segment of collectors that will buy each and every combo of holo/figure/reposed in bubble figure there is.  That is probably part of the reason the holos are changing to red.

I would have applied for patents for the in-aisle price checking scanner and do-it-yourself registers.  I had both those ideas a decade before I ever saw them.

The Prequel Trilogy / Re: Top 25 Worst Sequels Ever Made
« on: April 9, 2006, 09:23 AM »
I actually cancelled my EW subscription because of the weekly out-of-nowhere Lucas/Star Wars bashing.  Those greedy jerks have no problem slapping four different Star ars covers on their rag of a magazine since they know there are a lot of people who will buy all four, yet they felt compelled to stand on their high horse week after week and tell us Star Wars sucks.

Whatever.

Is TPM the greatest movie of all time?  No, but IMO it is a pretty good addition to the saga and NOT the worst film in the saga.

Great comment about King Kong being a summer movie released six months late.  I liked the film a lot, but it was no where near as good as the LotR films.  The effects with Kong were excellent, and so were the T-Rexes.  The city and the ship... not so much.

I think it was absolutely inevitable that Peter Jackson would get a bit of backlash for this film.  He was behind what will end up being the "Star Wars of a new generation," a hero to geeks everywhere.  Just like Lucas, Spielberg and the Warchowskis before him, he'll get torn to shreds, especially if his next film isn't an out of the park grand slam.

I'm fairly certain there will be an extended cut coming.  I just hope PJ remembers the kindness he paid us with the LotR films and doesn't repeat the extras from one set to another, giving us a reaon to own both.

I'm waiting for DDD to get that 2-disc Narnia unless I see some other smoking deal.  This two versions nonsense is getting out of hand.  With the new HD formats looming, I'm 50% on the fence about saying screw it and just getting the one disc versions.
