You can take the girl out of the trailer park but you can't take the trailer park out of the girl...

I took a couple pictures the other day of the two Predator and one Alien figures that I bought.  I used a Joe and Luke Skywalker for scale.

I've seen it twice.  Shocking.

It's like a train wreck...

But if it's that easy to catch these guys and it's not entrapment, why aren't there set ups like this all over the freaking place at all times...

Actually I've read that even small local law enforcement officers have set up similar stings using the Dateline model.

I would think that you'd either need someone on staff that can do it or you'd have to get with the Perverted Justice people to help you out.  I'm sure that budgets for that type of thing might also not always be what's needed to get the job done.

As bad as it is, though, I still can't believe that people are shocked this is going on.  ****, my friends and I were picking up women across campus using IM programs back in 1989.  That was like the first thing we learned how to do on the VMS systems!

A lot of these parents can't be that much older than me, they should be relatively savvy but, apparently they aren't.  They don't have any clue about what's going on on-line.  That's why a (mostly) boring web site like MySpace.com is suddenly the top news story almost nightly.  Internet predators are a problem but come on, the same people that install security systems in their house, lock their car doors while driving and put in anti-theft devices suddenly get stupid when they see that "Windows XP" logo pop up on their computer screens.

I would like to see JohnH and MatkatandIcanttalksogood face off on an episode of Yo Momma.

My money would be on JohnH to thouroughly trounce and humiliate him.

(PS I'd actually rather see Mattkatandimmapunk get in the ring at a UFC event but, you know, you can't have everything)

Other Toy Lines / Re: 2006: What Are You Collecting?
« on: June 21, 2006, 11:25 AM »
I've been sticking pretty much to 3.75" Star Wars figures this year.  I've only picked up new characters or new sculpts that were better versions of previously released figures (Boushh, AT-AT Driver, etc).  For the first time, though, I added several Troopers to my collection when I bought 12 Utapau Clones.  I just loved the paint scheme and they look cool with Cody.

I've also pre-ordered most of the 12" Sideshow figures for the year but I'm thinking about cancelling a couple of them.  I wasn't psyched with Luke, Anakin is really nice and I'm looking forward to Obi-Wan, Mace and Han but we'll see.

Also picked up the two newest Acme Archives Character Keys (Padme and ARC Trooper).

I had the opportunity to pick up a couple Kubrick figures for good prices so I may actually work backwards and fill in some holes on the regular release figures.

My major purchase for the year so far, though, is the GI Joe collector's club convention exclusive set.  It's an Adventure Team set that's really cool and I finally talked myself into it.

But I need to cut back some.  Already saving for C4.

IT'S THE APOCALYPSE RUUUN.

The hell is an Apocalypse Run?

Wasn't it a bad sci-fi series in the 70's?

I'd read some of that thread and I even reported it to the mods as something that didn't need to be on the boards but it went on for a few more days after I reported it.

I see that it's gone now.  I didn't see how it got wrapped up so if anyone saved it I'd love to read the outcome.

Let me get this straight. You reported the thread to RS mods because you felt it was something that didn't need to be on the boards. You reported it with the expectation that it would be moderated. Knowing RS, a logical conclusion would be that it would get spanked, locked or deleted. Deleted being a more and more common result recently.

The mods moderate, and eventually take the thread down.

After getting what you asked for, you now want to read the thread you found objectionable.

Maybe you should be asking the RS mods to put it back. Tell them you were just kidding or something. Tell them that your disposition that originally caused you to report the post can handle Mr. Kenobi's foul mouth and idiocy after all. At least now that it's interesting.

What the hell is your malfunction?

I didn't report it because I was personally offended by the language I reported it because it's the wrong way of going about voicing complaints.  That doesn't mean I didn't want to know the outcome of the topic.

Yes, some threads get deleted on RS but others get locked.  I assumed this would be locked.  After hearing that Dustin actually addressed the topic I wanted to know the outcome but that's when I found it had been deleted or moved to their RS mod board.

I got my order in today from the Canadian seller.  My buddy Joe K. and I ordered together.  He got a Celtic Predator and Warrior Alien.

The three I got were the Clear and Scar Predator and Battle Alien.

The Scar Predator looks awesome.  Got a cup of hot water (just shy of boiling) and used that to soften up the parts to put them together.  Also had to use it to straighten out some accessories.  He went together pretty well.  Stands great and all of the accessories fit pretty well with the exception of the shoulder canon.  The hair is in the way.

The paint job is excellent and he looks awesome!

The Clear Predator has a really loose right hip joint so the leg pops off easily.   The peg on the leg sheath is also not formed quite right so it's not a great fit on the leg and the face mask won't stay on.  I'm a huge fan of clear figs and I'm a little disappointed in this one.  But, glad to have it anyway.

The Alien looks awesome though!  Easiest of the three to put together and the bendy tail and transparent head really take it up a notch.

I'm wishing now I'd gone ahead and ordered all of Series 1 for myself but maybe I'll pick up the others later on.  I can't wait for the Marines now!

Jesse and the others that recommended these figures, thanks, I really like them and I'm glad I tracked them down.

Is anyone familiar with setting up a wireless network between a laptop and a desktop computer?  We just bought a laptop, and I'm getting pretty close to getting it all figured out.  So far I've managed to enable access to the internet for the laptop, and it can also access files that are stored on the desktop.

However, the desktop can't seem to access files stored on the laptop.  I also noticed the laptop has a notification icon saying there is a network cable unplugged - are these 2 problems related?

Signed,
Confused in Canuckia

The icon on the tray saying a network cable is unplugged is probably for the wired network card in your laptop.  If you're using the wireless card you probably don't have a cable plugged in also (you don't really want to use both at the same time anyway).  That's not causing your problem.

There are two reasons I can think of right now as to why you aren't seeing the laptop.  The first is that if it's brand new on the network it's name hasn't registered yet and the desktop isn't finding it.  Sometimes it'll take 20 minutes or so for a computer to be recognized on a Microsoft network.

The other thing that might be causing it is that there are no shares on the laptop.  You can try to access it from the desktop using the default share (open My Network Places and use the address bar to type \\laptopname\C$ where laptopname is that of the laptop).

The other thing you can do is, from the laptop, open My Computer and right-click on the C: drive and choose Sharing.  Or  go into C: and pick a directory and do the same.  Add sharing for the drive or folder.  Then from the desktop try accessing the laptop just using the \\laptopname.  See if you see the folder or drive you shared.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: TRU Sues and Wins to Leave Amazon.com

That's a good question on the preorders.  I don't have any at the moment, I cancelled my Gunship after finding it at retail.  I waited on the new Battle Pack that's coming because I didn't want it to get delayed indefinitely.  Glad I waited now.

I'm hoping that the new TRU web site will be as good as or better than what Amazon was doing as far as shipping goes.  It'll be interesting to see how their stock holds up.  Will it be a store of "Sold Out" items or will they restock more often?

Lot's of questions.  I can't wait till they launch to try them out though.

I was hoping to find some of these at WW Philly on Friday but after searching the entire dealer area a couple times I came up empty.

I found a Canadian seller on eBay that had 20 pieces listed for $8 BIN each.  Both series 1 and 2.  I ordered 5 and got one each of the Scar, Celtic and Clear Predator and Battle and Warrior Aliens.  It was $50 shipped to the US.

The guy has good feedback and answered my questions quickly so now I'm waiting to see if they come through.

I'd like to place my order for one of these to be delivered to NY sometime next week.  Who should I call about getting that taken care of?

I guess we'll know sometime before SDCC...

You would hope!   :P
Especially if it would require a person taking vacation from work or whatever.  A lot of jobs require 2+ weeks notice in advance.

They just added Matt Wood as a guest at WW Philly for this weekend.  That'll be cool because I skipped getting his autograph as C3.
