Star Wars Action Figures / Re: Gregorbian's Customs
« on: May 23, 2005, 08:40 PM »
Great stuff Greg!! I planned on doing a SSA clone just like that (minus you're paintjob of course ;))

The shock troops look great, and so do theheavy weapon specialists.

I like the V-Wing pilot a lot. Nice work on the helmet. :)

Very nice! Simple but oh so effective.  :) Now I know what to do with my extra Agen Kolar head.  :) If only I could find the damn head I was going to put on his body >:( :( ::) The paint job really disguises the body and makes it look like a whole new figure.

I want to see some of your collection pics too, Kevin showed me one and It looked pretty cool! :)

They accused me of causing the accident now, saying I ran a red light, based on the other drivers claim. >:(

Kevin

That sounds familiar. The same kind of thing happened to my friend. It was a really snowy night and my friend pulled up to an intersection, and the light was out (blinking red, meaning the light is essentially a 4-way stop) there was a truck to his right that got there at about the same time niehter one of them went so my friend started going, all of a sudden another car in the lane on the other side of the truck went flying throught the intersection, (without ever stopping) and hit my friend as he was crossing. When the police arrive they were asking around to see what happen and one of the two drivers and his whole car were drunk (I think it was the truck, the one that didn't hit him, as wierd as that sounds) and the cops took the word of the drunk over the word of my friend nad his passenger, my other friend. My friend ended up getting a ticket and and he was blamed for the whole thing because the cop took some drunk's word over that of two 17 year old kids.

There are so many things on the road that piss me off, to name a few:

  • people who talk on there phones
  • semi-trucks in the left lane on the highway
  • people who drive below the speed limit or even right at the speed limit in the left lane on highways
  • people who turn into the wrong lane and nearly run me or someone else off the road
  • drunk driver's, they say they will ony hurt themselves, but they always end up hurting or killing the innocent person who isn't drunk >:(
  • People who don't give you a courtesy wave when you let them in, I ******* hate that >:(
  • and the #1 thing: Retards who don't know what the **** a blinker is. They either don't use one which is really aggrivating, turn it on way too early and pass like 5 turns before they actually turn, don't reallize it is on and drive for a mile or two befroe they realize, and as dumb as this sounds I've seen it a couple times: people who use the wrong ******* blinker, I've seen people put on their left blinker to turn right, it really isn't that hard.

I've actually got more than that but I'll stop. Oh I and I also can't stand it when people bash the prequels, I understand that you may not like them and you are entitled to that opinion but it is really agrivating when people do nothing but bash the prequels, esspecially when they have nothing to say other than "tthese movies suck," or "Lucas has lost it," or "The OT is so much better." At least back it up, don't just bash it, if you can't say anything good about the PT don't say anything at all. Every OT purist I've seen seems to have this attitude, where they think they are better than every Star Wars fan who likes or even tolerates the PT, it is annoying, cut it out.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: So how many times have you seen it?
« on: May 23, 2005, 02:51 PM »
5 for me, 3 one opening day, 1 on Friday and 1 on Saturaday, and I plan on many more, at least once a week for as long as it is out. :)

Watto's Junk Yard / What time are you getting in line?
« on: May 17, 2005, 09:58 PM »
I've been like a little kid on Christmas eve all day today! :) I can't wait, I can't sit still and I know I won't be able to sleep tonight. Even thought there is absolutely no reason to I'm going to get in line around 10 or 11am tomarrow morning. I've got my folding chair from C3, some snacks, my Dell Dj, some reading material, and hopefully some friends :P. My brother is going to meet me there at around 3 or 4 and my other friends are going to show up some time later that night.

1 day and 4 hours until  ROTS ,    **** YEAH!!!!  ;D :)

1.  Sculpey use  for custom armor, accessories, etc.  I purchased some sculpey so I could mold some pieces to "update" the helmets and also give extra armor to my Republic Commando custom.  4 questions come of this:

A - Is sculpey a good product to use for such a thing?
B - How do you remove a sculpey piece intact so you can bake it?
C - Do I really put them in the oven to bake them, and if so, for how long?
D - Is there a good sealant for sculpey that'll keep it from getting brittle, cracking, etc.?

From my limited sculppting experience I usually just sculpt it right on to the figure and then you can cure the sculpey in boiling water without hurting the figure. I've heard of people putting a layer of saran wrap over the part you are going to sculp on and sculpting on top of the saran warp so you can take it off and bake it, but boiling it is the easiest and works pretty good. Once it is cured ond dry you can give it a small coat of super glue, this helps with the durability and it can be painted over fine. It will still be fairly delecate because sculpey isn't the best. You can try sculpting with plumber's putty (epoxy putty) it harderns fairly fast, so you have to work with small areas at a time but it dries rock hard. It works great as a glue too.

.  Gluing, etc.

A - I got this ultra-stinky, nasty epoxy from Lowe's at the recommendation of one of their employees, and it didn't work too well for repairing broken lightsabers.  I've found that plain ol' superglue works best, but should I be concerned about durability?  I'm thinking of using superglue to attach soft plastic armor and accessories to figures, but if something else is better, please share.

2-part epoxys can work ok, sometimes. I usually do use plain old super glue though. The Elmer's brand is my favorite but most others work too. I actually just bought this stuff at the hardware store tonight called SureHold Plastic Surgery, It says it holds: acrylic, ABS, EPDM, Nylon, Fiberglass, Phenolic, Plexiglass, polycarbonate, Polyester, Polystyrene, PVC, and Urethane. When I try it out I'll let you know how it works. Like I asid earlier too, plummber's putty works great.

2.  Taping questions (again)

A - Has anybody ever tried using the kind of tape that auto-body shop guys use?  I got this idea from watching American Choppers, and seeing the paint guys apply, twist, and bend this tape w/o any breakage, and an apparently good seal to the material.  It could be that the tape just seals better to metal than it does to plastic, but it could be that the tape is just better.

B - I've been doing Shock Troopers, and I'm on my 3rd now.  I still have problems with getting good, clean straight lines when I pull the tape off.  On my 2nd and now 3rd Shocktrooper I began using an exacto knife to cut along the edge of the tape prior to removal, and it helps a little bit.  Is this what you guys do?

I've found that scotch tape, (the clear stuff that you stick on paper and such works pretty good. You have to make sure you get a sticky enough kind and cut it to shape with an exacto, but from my experience it works pretty good. I almost alway send up scraping paint away with my exacto after to clean up the lines though.

Hope that helps. :P

Very Nice DD. I love the R5, the weathering is great! Very realistic.

Nice work on the Rodian as well, It is always nice to see some customs of video game characters that you never see. :)

The Blys look excellent. Overall I like the one on the left better but his chest stripe should be like the one on the rights. :)

4360
Thanks alot guys that really means a lot coming from you guys! :) ;D

COMMANDER GREE -

The straps are actually OTC Dagobah Luke's backpack strap, I cut the front stomach strap and moved that buckle to the back and glued it back there and painted it. CHEWIE I'm sure you could pull this one off, there is very little line painting and your drybrushing skill could make that camo look excellent.

COMMANDER BLY -

I just noticed that Bly has 2 stripes on the forearm guantlets so I'll have to add the other one sometime.

BLY TROOP & DIRTY CAPTAIN -

I don't like these either but I had some extras and I figured I might as well use them for something.

DEAD CLONE -

I tried to make the severed arm look like it had bone in it but I think it needs more work to make it look more realistic. The other are is just missing a strip of paint on the hand because I got some extra glue on it and when I cut the glue off with my exacto it took some of the paint off with it. It is hard to see from the picture but I dremmeled a hole in the chest and on the back that is supposed to be a saber hole, there is tons of caked blood on the back where it pooled out and dried. And on the right leg I dremmeled out a huge saber slash mark that has some blood around it. DD you are dead on, Grievous does get him :)

COMMANDER RHET -

He's shiney cause I couldn't find my dullcote. I gotta put stuff in the same place. ::) ;) Rhet: I came up with this in like 10 seconds when I was saving the file, anyone have any other name suggestions?

CLONE MEDIC -

He really is just a temporary custom until I get another tank Gunner and can make a real custom. Chewie I really like that idea, I was kind of thinking that but I went with the cross cause it was quicker. I'll try and come up with a new logo but keep it red for familiarity. And Give him some kind of kit, I was thinking an Ugnaught kit buit i didn't have one so I left him like that. Yaura's pouch... not a bad idea, and I have an extra, always a plus :)

SAVIORN -

I may swich out the pony tail, I don't have an extra one, I'll have to pick one up sometime. And CHEWIE that is still one of my favorite Falleen customs, that body is so good for smuggler/mercanary types. :)

One: I am SERIOUSLY in need of a new installment in the Rykrof Enloe saga. I want chapter 11 and I mean to get it...however, I could PROBABLY be staved off for a week or so by another SE.  :P

Two: Has anyone checked Lance Quazar's house for his moldering corpse? Where's he been, man? The site isn't the same without his interactive photonovel goodness!

-DD

Seriously. Lance where are you? And don't tell me you are dead that's not an excuse.

CHEWIE, we are waiting..... hurry up!!! ;) :P

4363
 ;D That kinda sucks though...

I wonder what would happen if he took a bath in that suff all night..... :P ;)

for POTF torsos I actually found that it works best to dremmel out the center post and then crack it after it has been in hot water for about 1min to soften the glue.

Bad-ass! Killer paint app, and that photography is great too, He's in some very cool poses. I love this one! :)

Now that I'm home for the summer ;D I have access to a camera again, almost all of these were made several weeks to a month ago and I am just now posting them. Instead of giving all of these guys their own threads, I figured I'd start my own thread for my customs, besides all the cool kids are doing it. ;) :P

Sorry, almost all of these are boring clone and Wookiee repaints, I have some reall customs in the works but they aren't done yet.

First up: Commander Gree WIP
I made him awhile ago with a bad refrence shot, i need to fix the helmet's colors and give him his holster, I couldn't find anything good.

Commander Bly
Fairly self explanitory.

One of Commander Bly's troops
This actually a fan-fic idea that is really just an AOTC clone w/ Bly's colors

Dirty Clone Captain
This was just my first attempt at a wash, and I needed a dirty clone so I made this.

Dead Clone
I needed a dead clone that had been killed by a lightsbaer, so here he is.

WIP Wookiees
They still need a few highlights and some accessories

Commander Rhet
Boring red Clone Commander Custom.

Clone Medic
I'm actually embarrassed to call this a custom :-[, it literally took 2 minutes. All it is is some tape and sharpie so I can still have my tank gunner. He is just a temporary fig until I make a real one, I wanted to give him an ugnaught bag but I didn't have one, so I'll have to find something else.

Saviorn
This is the only real custom out of the bunch, and it is actully 2 years old. ::) This was my third custom ever and it is still my favorite to this day, I thought'd I'd try and improve him a bit by giving him some CHEWIE style drybrushing. I like him a lot better now, though CHEWIE would have done a better job. :)

95% of these guys are in my first photonovel that I started work on yesterday, I got some of the principal photography done and I can get a preview shot or two if anyone is interested.

Comments and critiques (especially critiques, I would like to get better at this whole customizing thing :P) are more than welcome. :)
