Title: Marvel Legends Wave 5
Post by: Mikey D on July 9, 2003, 09:17 AM
Just thought I'd bump this up now that Wave V has been officially confirmed (I expect pics next week at SDCC)

Colossus will the be the first one I buy when these start hitting stores.  I've always been a fan of the gentle Russkie and his appearance was one of the many highlights of X2, IMO.

I saw this lineup yesterday as well, over at AFTimes (Julius Marx's column).  He also has an FAQ about Marvel Legends that is kind of a good read if you have the time.  Glad to hear about this lineup being confirmed, and Howard the Duck is definitely a surprise.  Can't wait to see pics next week, really looking forward to Colossus as well.

Howard the Duck?  Geddouttatown :o  Does it come with a Beverly accessory?

Any suggestion as to what the chase figure is?  Not like I'm likely to find it the way they've been "thinning" the numbers lately.

Wave V descriptions (http://adctalk.com/viewtopic.php?t=1937968)

Descriptions of wave V and pics of Howard the Duck and Silver Surfer.  Looks like Red Skull will be the chase fig - ala Goliath but in larger numbers.

Red SKull a chase figure? Damnation.
I did find Elektra today, but no Goliath to be found, which really doesn't suck, because I don't want that figure anyway.

I been wanting to pick up a few Marvel Legends... I almost got Punisher but I just hate the white boots... Maybe Sabretooth or Colossus will be my first.

I don't collect this line, but I'd think making Red Skull a chase figure would be damaging to it.  Exclusives and chase figures are gutting lines like MOTU, Muppets, Simpsons, etc.  Not smart at all.

WEll, they create a lot of interest amongst a certain segment that's for sure.  Being a McFarlane collector it would be sort of hypocritical if I crapped all over the idea but essentially, yeah, you're right.

The McFarlane release dates around here are nightmares.  Swearing, shoving and fisticuffs are regular occurrences, moreso with football due to the limited numbers we see up north, but also occurs for hockey.  It is severely turning off retailers and most of our Walmarts won't carry anything but hockey.  A few carry football and only one or two carry baseball and basketball.  Variants - whoosh - gone in a second, everything else sits.

I thought the Marvel Legends chase figures were handled well with gold Ironman and Doombot.  Not overly plentiful but enough that the price never went through the roof.  No Mask Wolverine is a farce.  $300 on ebay :o  Thank you, no.  $30 yes.  Seemingly so far Goliath is leaning this way.

Same fiasco that the comic book guys went through.  If you want to kill the market, this is the way to do it.  Anyone sitting on these chase pieces for anything other than posterity would be well advised to get rid of them now while they're still worth something.  Don't believe me?  Anyone remember Valiant comics? ;)

I just started my Legends collection. I ended up getting Gambit as he's my favorite Mutant. Im really excited for Colossus and Sabertooth.

The only Marvel Legend figure I don't really like is the Thing his head seems too small for some reason.

Even in some of the comic books, the Thing's head is too small.  For some reason the older figures are also like that, head too small.  I'm not sure why.

Like the Unleashed line though I think these things look awful in the package in most cases.  They look so much better when set free.

Colossus- In his classic red and yellow outfit. He’ s HUGE! Comes with a trashed Sentinel torso as the base.

Silver Surfer w/Howard the Duck- Same as we sow at Toy Fair, but shinier.

Red Skull (chase)- The head is the “mask” style Red Skull. You can see the fleshy-bits around the eyes. Looks like he in a military dress uniform. Gray pants, black jacket/dublet, black shoes and black gloves.

Oh yeah, ML stuff.  I like archangel.  That looks pretty neat.  Was hoping for pics of Red Skull, he who will tick off the Cap fans no end if he's as available as no mask wolvie has proven to be.

BTW, what's up with spiderman classics?  Where's the new stuff.  Even the non-classic stuff.  Anyone grabbed Morbius or Doc Ock? ???

Dear Lord!   :-X  God that's funny!  Where the hell do you find that crap Mike?!?

Scratch that.  If you told us, our forum will suddenly become full of dancing superhero and action figure fairies!   ;)  So nevermind!  Yours are quite plenty to enjoy here...   :-*

ADC has there coverage up

I'll comment more tomorrow I guess but most of it looks swell

I'll be getting Red Skull, Colossus, Nick Fury, Mister Fantastic and Silver Surfer/Howard

Sabertooth and Blade do absolutely nothing for me

I also like the looks and possible direction of the Classic X-Men line

Classic Hulk...meh, I would have thought Classic Avengers would have been a better idea.  Just trying to cash in on the Hulk money train I guess ??? (idiots)

Scott, random thoughts:

I'm there with you on Hulk.  What are they going to do?  Banner Unleashed?  Oh wait, that's called the Hulk ::)  A grey Hulk would be cool.  Hey, maybe a She-Hulk (drool).

Red Skull?  Chase piece or not?  If so, he could be mighty pricy yes?  I want him too, he is quite the classic evil villain.  Pretty dumb to have the Cap and then make his arch enemy impossible to get.

No blade for me either.

When I saw my new dancing icon on another forum, I knew it would compliment Spidey, so I just had to have it  ;) Plus I knew you guys would get a kick out of it.

On to ML.  Awesome.  I've been jonesing for these pics for awhile now and they don't disappoint.

Colossus is nothing short of amazing and will be the very first one I pick up.

I like all the rest, with Sabretooth and MF probably being my least favorite, although still good.  Where are MF's stretchy hands?

I'll pick and choose the HC and XMC figs, like I do with SMC.  Definitely getting Archangel (although his face looks a little weird) and Cyclops.  I'll decide on the Wolverines when I see them.  Abomination is a definite and will probably pick up the intelligent Hulk (the one with glasses)  I didn't see his feet but hopefully he comes with his pink bunny slippers that he was wearing when he carried that gun in the comic.

More news from Comic Con

From AFT...

Firstly, I have to offer a HUGE apology to everyone,
especially Rob, Bobbi and Julius. I screwed up badly
yesterday. Here's some bad, hreatbreaking news, gang:
Remember that thrid series of X-Men 2 movie figures
that I reported? Well, I talked to Jesse today, and
sadly, they *ain't* happening after all. The figures
were manufactured, but retailers lost interest in the
line and the plans were scrapped. They won't be
released.

I'm sorry, folks. Mea Culpa. I saw that name card in
the display case that listed the figures and I assumed
that when Jesse arrived, he'd have them along with the
new Hulk X-Men and Marvel Legends assortments. Well,
you know what they say happens when you ASS-U-ME. I
am very, very sorry. I'm as disappointed as you are.
I wanted a Lady Deathstrike figure so bad my teeth
hurt. The worst part is, there's one made that we'll
never see. :-(

Well, on to the *good* news:

There will be at least *one* Punisher movie figure,
and it will probably appear in Marvel Legends just
like Blade 2 and the Ben Affleck Daredevil. That will
more than likely be the only Punisher movie figure we
see.

Marvel Legends will be bumped up to three assortments
a year. Woo-Hoo! Jesse will have two waves of Marvel
Legends on display at next year's Toy Fair, along with
two new boxed sets. Let the speculation begin.

Invisible Woman *will* happen.

Silver Surfer's base *is* wall mountable! It tilts on
a 360 degree angle. Jesse isn't sure yet if Mr.
Fantastic's base will be wall mountable or not.

Doop will be the sidekick in Series 6. Jesse wouldn't
tell me which figure he'll be packaged in.

Roto, large scaled figures for Marvel Legends?
Possibly. In fact, one's been manufactured.

Jesse says that Red Skull will be easier to find then
Gold Iron Man. He doesn't like the idea of chase
figures, either, but this is the only way we'll get a
Red Skull. He *is* a Nazi, you know. The retailers
are the ones who keep requesting chase figures, and as
long as they're the ones doing the ordering, we're
going to continue to get'em.

WEll, that's good news about Red Skull anyway.  I managed to find four Gold Ironman, so the odds should be ok.  Pity they aren't offering up comments regarding no mask Wolverine and Goliath.

Also interesting that the retailers want the chase figures.  Up north, most of our retailers hate the McFarlane shoppers with absolute passion.  They do not like the phone calls, the people waiting outside the door at opening, etc.  Perhaps by retailers they are referring to management.

No X2 Magneto?   :(

I was kind of worried about that, though.  The ML stuff looks good.  I'll only get the Surfer and Colossus, though.
