The Black Series 6" Figures / Re: New York Comic-Con 2015
« on: October 8, 2015, 03:05 PM »
Panel over and moving into Q&A...   only "NEW" reveals were updates on 6" Revan and 6" Sabine; 3.75" Seventh Sister; and preview of prototypew for 6" ANH Leia coming 2016.

Tidbits from the Q&A, courtesy of Star Wars Action News facebook page -

- Force Friday shortages = "compressed timeline led to Force Friday shortages. They're working hard to make sure you get the figures in your stores and in your hands very soon"

- More Rebels figures are coming = "Dedicated to producing new ones. Can't say who but strong hints about new Season 2 characters Hondo and the new bounty hunter"

- Black Series 3.75" at Walmart = "they're testing the line with Wal Mart. If they sell as well as they hope they could become a regular non exclusive line again. But they're very expensive to make and they are concerned with fans accepting the higher price required to put the articulation in the figures"

- 6" C-3PO = "have patience"

- there will probably be a Celebration London exclusive = "something fun"

- crappy X-Wing plastic = "they recognize the problems and they are trying to rectify the issues with the guns.  They're trying to keep up with new safety regulations, new materials that keep costs down, etc. so the toys keep evolving.  They seemed to agree with the disappointment with that vehicle, though they didn't say that in so many words."

And, panel over.

Some good stuff but I find comments that the black series being very expensive to make sounds like a cop out they already make GI Joe with nice articulation and there's a much higher demand for Star Wars figures over Joe figures so the profit margin is there. I wont buy the 5 POA of anything since I really enjoy posing the figures in various action poses!

I also like the 6" Black line and I'd prefer to wait to make sure C3PO looks as good as he can be since we all know what can happen when figures or vehicles get rushed to market...

Since the 6" figures feel a little less like toys and a little more like display pieces, I would be in favor of "environments" more than vehicles.  Seeing the 6" scale TIE Fighter reinforces my belief that these are going to be really hard to interact with as toys, and potentially really hard to display.

The only vehicle that I would love to see in this scale is a landspeeder, but if they do that they've got to make a C-3PO.

My quick thoughts on "environments":
  • Jabba's Sail Barge (or palace) - would be great to have somewhere to display a bunch of the figures we have that fit this scene
  • Death Star - maybe around the detention center, but you'll need to make a "Death Squad Commander"
  • Hoth Base - I need a place for my Tuantaun and Wampa
  • Mos Eisley Cantina - I would love to see a whole wave of cantina patrons (Hammerhead please) to go along with the release of this set

It would be cool if they made these environments with a pack in figure that we wouldn't normally see - e.g. Yakface with a Jabba's Sail Barge.

Good ideas. I would kind of like to see the Death Star and Hoth base sets be multi parts. That way you can break the parts down to whichever set you want and if you get all the sets you can combine them I imagine a 3 part set or so you can display them each in a different display case or put em all together for one nice display.

As for the vehicles I always preferred the land based vehicles since I felt they were easier to play with vs holding a flying vehicle in the air all the time. Its also a bit easer to set up a display with land based vehicles since you don't need fishing line!

Some nice stuff. I never saw the space stuff that looks very cool. I don't actively collect 70s-80s toys myself since I like the modern releases they've done. I do still have a bunch of those M.A.S.K. vehicles and ONE lone mask guy without a mask. I liked the toy line didn't care for the TV show at all.

Power of the Force 2 / Re: 20th Anniversary of POTF2
« on: March 6, 2015, 08:22 PM »
Man, it is hard to believe, but this year marks the 20th anniversary of the original "return" of Star Wars figures to the toy aisles.  Although many of those figures look ridiculous these days, it really was a cool time in SW collecting I think.  I wasn't really "in" on these from the beginning, but came in later on and then backtracked picking some of them up.  Although some of the He-Man like sculpts were kind of extreme, I remember - at the time - thinking figures like the Boba Fett were amazing, just comparing detail to the vintage line.  I didn't know anything about "collecting" toys then, and hadn't paid that much attention since my childhood for the most part, but that was the start of things that continues to this day.  There are times when I like to look back on the releases for each year in the POTF2 days, and think how much fun it must have been for those of you who bought in from the beginning - awaiting each new version of our favorite characters, not to mention all of the vehicle, beasts, and other things that were hitting at that time.

Spot on - I got these when I was in college since I had picked up the Star Wars series on VHS and then saw them in the store. I only got 5 of them and displayed them for a brief time only to realize they weren't very good sculpts. I completely agree on the He-Man sculpts - Lando must be the worst looking one he's ripped like a mofo complete with a six pack.  ::)

Power of the Force 2 / Re: POTF2 Recent Purchases

I have several opened POTF2 figures. They are RD-D2, Lando, Fett, Tatooine Ben, and Vader. Looks like the original price was $6.99 each so they've gone down in value I suppose. I agree with some earlier comments that the newer lines are so much nicer then these. The defining characteristic of the POTF2 in my eyes is how ripped out the majority of the figures are. Fair enough…BTW that project, from what we have looked up, was never on Kickstarter, it was on indiegogo which has very different rules.  Kickstarter is quite a bit more stringent these days with allowing projects.

Much anger in you…in all seriousness though we welcome the comments-discussion….we should all be talking more about this because we ALL love action figures!

Here are a few points we wanted to put out there:

You mentioned cost effective storage options and that is great, but we were looking for something more suited to our own personal collections and collector habits and we strongly believe that other collectors would feel the same way.

We realize that its not one size fits all when it comes to the collector genre.  Some are openers others are AFA graders. Everyone has a way that they prefer to collect. Rupe and I prefer to rotate out our figure and vehicle collections much like a store display to keep our guests interested every time they visit.

(Shameless Plug) Speaking of size, did we mention we are planning to make trays for the 6 inch black series…lol

It’s true that you don’t know us and that may raise suspicion but that is why we are here to get to know the community. We want to help serve the collecting community because we are collectors ourselves and saw a complete lack of solutions for people with quality loose collections.

Our goal was to get as close as we could to just over a buck per figure in storage….which compares very favorably with those plastic coffin containers in terms of price and we feel offers a lot more.  When you consider that even the cheapest loose figures in excellent condition can run upwards of 10 bucks and more with their accessories, you can see how we see that a buck or so to protect our plastic joy was pretty reasonable.  Our model is based on comic book storage essentials.

Kickstarter is about trying to create a brand new start up and our goal from day one is to become an active member of the toy collecting community.  It takes a lot of capital to get an operation off the ground and Rupe and I have put in a huge amount of time and capital investment to get things up and running.

Its too bad about what happened with that other project but not everyone on Kickstarter are agents of scum and villainy ;-)  It is also why we spent several months developing this prior to putting the project on Kickstarter.

Anyhow, we are just happy you guys have given us feedback and for those who choose to support us we offer a hardy thanks. We think collecting is a blast and we really love how our childhood love has evolved into a true hobby!

I feel like I'm part of an ad.

LOL Think of it as more of a crusade to help action figures everywhere ;-)

My vintage Dagobah and Death Star playsets seem to indicate that foam does not age well. It also bonds to plastic and is heat sensitive. I would be reluctant to put that stuff anywhere near my figures, but maybe that's just me.

Hey there...we hear ya and thanks for the comment, but you have to keep in mind that foam types are as varied as plastic types...near 40 year old throw away toy sponge foam is nowhere near the type of foam we are talking about...modern specialized foam is a completely different bantha ;-) ... especially foam designed specifically to house sensitive items in varied climates.

I find IKEA to have a really great collection of shelves if you want to display them. I was inquiring about storing them out of the way. The reason I ask is that I've started a project on Kickstarter and I was just interested in feedback.

We're looking for some support if your looking for a different way to store your collection please check out our Kickstarter project.

I hope its ok if we post this link to help get people thinking about storage.

Thank you,

Hi, I was wondering what methods folks have come up with for storing their figures.

Thank you,
