Title: Star Wars Chase figures.
Post by: bigj22 on December 21, 2013, 01:20 PM
Its nice to see that no one is paying those ridiculous prices for those chase figures ( Uncle Owen,Hammerhead,AtSt driver and so on) Does anyone feel these prices will come down if the line is done ? Or even if not. Ide like to get these to complete my collection but not at those prices.

I think the guys selling them at those crazy prices will leave them at those crazy prices for a long time.  You might find a better deal from a collector or two that decides to part with their collection though.  The problem with these is that there's just too few of them.  Those that have them won't part with them for much less - they seem to have really held their prices the last few years.  You can definitely get the basic figures for a lot less these days though.

I know Dan is selling some of his Kubes - you might want to check in with him if you're looking for anything.

I have just purchased a SWDXS02 AT-ST chase figure and noticed the goggles on this figure is painted all black

But from other pictures I have seen the goggles looks like they are clear. Is this the case?

Wow! Congratulations!  How much did you have to shell out for him?

I can't recall if mine is clear or black.  I can't tell from the picture I took ages ago, but will check this weekend.  Looks black to me.  Possibly the promotional photos showed a clear one, but the releases were actually black?

JediJman - after all cost via a third party auction bidding program, the total I paid was 23,000 Japanese Yen, that's about $221USD

That's a great price.  Congratulations!  Odd about the goggles though.  Mine are totally clear...

That is a great price, and piece, congrats!

I wonder if the goggles weren't a running change  :-\  To me black would have made more sense. These guys weren't in wood shop, they were dealing with bright laser flares.   ;)

Well, I'd argue that it would be a little hard to see through painted black goggles.  Were the AT-ST Drivers force sensitive?    ;)  Mine is clear, but surely tinted to protect them from all the camera flares.

It must just be multiple versions somehow, but really odd to have a variant on a figure this rare.  How many AT-ST Drivers did they make?  He's 1:96, right?  If they made 2, 000 boxes, that should be about 250 Driver chases...would that require more than one run?  And even so, why paint over clear plastic?  Very odd.

Went back and took a closer look at mine. The goggles are dark tinted, but you can still see through them to the helmet. Not totally opaque.

The two pictures I took is the actual figure I have now. The third picture I got from another site

After another closer inspection on this AT-St driver figure the goggles are definite all black

Bootleg perhaps?!

Bootleg perhaps?!

I thought about that too, though I can't figure out how they would make the helmet and goggles so similar.  If it's a boot, its a fantastic copy.  Even then the markings and paint aps seem to match up with the other photos submitted.  Maybe the black goggle one is a prototype?  Very odd indeed.

I have compared my figure with pictures taken from http://instinctoy.blog73.fc2.com/blog-entry-891.html and they seem to add up

You mean other than the goggles?  Instectoy's version has the clear goggles...

In most of those photos the glasses look dark tinted, which match with mine. I'm just gonna choose to believe that there was some variation in the paint apps on the goggles, ie some got more or less black applied to the glass part.  :)

Well, it sounds to me like everyone has the tinted clear version except Kay, which still begs the question as to where his came from...

After a closer inspection with a magnifying glass I can see the goggles on this figure is not completely black. Mine has a darker tint like MikeT

As for the question where I got it on yahoo jp auctions.

If that's the case, then I'm betting these are all the same.  The clearness of the tinted goggles is heavily dependent on the lighting - maybe there's no difference at all.
