Pretty big Marvel TV news yesterday with the announcement that Netflix has committed to four series of 13 episodes each for Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Jessica Jones, all leading to a Defenders team up miniseries. They will start in 2015.
-
Hmm. That sounds sort of cool, except that none of those people were actually IN the Defenders except Luke Cage. But hey, why split hairs when there's money to be made. ::)
The other sucky thing about this, besides the fact that I will never see them because they air on Netflx, is that Netflix does not do High Definition.
I literally cannot watch TV that is not in HD anymore.
-
Pretty much all Netflix streaming is HD.

Check out the press conference (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2WIZT98X74) about Marvel's upcoming Netflix series The Defenders. It's set to begin production and will shoot in New York City, where the stories are set. On hand for the presser were Marvel's Joe Quesada, Disney head Bob Iger and NY state governor Andrew Cuomo.

Is anyone else a big fan of these characters? The whole Daredevil/Powerman/Iron Fist/Jewel lineup seems really boring to me. The comics generally have these guys in some offshoot of the Avengers and I just can't get into any of the characters.
-
They're all Marvel's noir-ish characters. They're certainly not the spectacle you expect from Avengers. If they're well-written, these series could prove to be quality viewing. But quality along the lines of Boardwalk Empire, not Star Wars.

Kingpin - Good actor, not nearly fat enough. They needed someone of Brando-level girth.
The only one of these I care about is Power Man, for the sheer spectacle of seeing how they try to drag that cringe inducing doofus into the 21st century.
-
Power Man was handled well in the Jessica Jones comics a few years back.

Rosario Dawson to guest star in Daredevil. (http://www.deadline.com/2014/06/rosario-dawson-to-guest-star-in-netflixs-marvel-drama-series-daredevil/)
I'm totally on board with this.

So hot.

She is smoking!
-
I think we belongs in the top 5 hotties thread.
-
She really has been one of the best things about 'True Blood' on HBO. Her and Kristen Van Straten.
One very oddly coincidental thing about Deborah Ann Woll and this new role? Her boyfriend is blind. And she's been using some of her celebrity to raising awareness about the disease that took his sight.

Daredevil Series Review (http://deadline.com/2015/04/marvel-daredevil-review-netflix-charlie-cox-vincent-donofrio-1201405803/)
In the comics, they call him “the man without fear,” and there certainly is fearlessness to this new series debuting April 10 on Netflix.
As my video review above says, Marvel’s Daredevil is the TV offering from the superhero giant that we’ve been waiting for. With Spartacus creator Steven S. DeKnight as showrunner and Boardwalk Empire alum Charlie Cox as the blind protector of a very rotten Big Apple, the 13-episode first season leaves the painful 2003 Ben Affleck movie a very distant memory.
With influences including features The Raid, District 13 and Taxi Driver, this very stylized Daredevil is hard to take your eyes off – which is a way of warning you that there might be some bingeing in your weekend. To that end, let’s give a shout-out to former showrunner Drew Goddard, who wrote the opening episodes.
So... my level of excitement just jumped a few notches.
My plan is to get Netflix streaming after the season finales in May. So I'll probably get through DD at the beginning of June.

I tend to agree with Alan Sepinwall's tastes, so his glowing review (http://www.hitfix.com/whats-alan-watching/review-netflixs-daredevil-quickly-moves-to-the-top-of-the-tv-superhero-heap) of Daredevil is another sign it's going to be worth it.
I'm looking forward to checking out the show... but I probably won't get around to it until Justified, Americans, and Game of Thrones are done for the season.

The Punisher cast for Daredevil season 2 - and it's absolutely perfect! (http://nerdist.com/daredevil-adds-jon-bernthal-as-the-punisher-for-season-2/)
-
That is awesome news!
-
Hmm, Shane as The Punisher? I dunno, I guess I don't quite see it, but maybe he can pull it off.
-
You don't think he can pull of a super-intense psycho?

You don't think he can pull of a super-intense psycho?
Well, i tend to think of him as a short , jumpy redneck, not as a taller, darker brooding guy. I haven't really seen him outside of WD though, so his range may surprise me.
-
The Internets say he's the same height as Charlie Cox (5'10").
He seemed to tower over everyone in Fury (though maybe that was camerawork tricks). Or maybe it was just that he was intimidating.
-
I think it is a great casting. Looking forward to it. I just need some Hot Toys figures of Daredevil and Punisher now!
-
Punisher looks the part for sure.

I have faith in Marvel, but feel kinda the same. Shane was such a hillbilly, wheras Castle seems a bit more Urban to me.

After three Punisher films, I don't really know if the character works anymore. Simply because The Punisher was very much a product of his times. He was a New York character when New York was VERY dangerous. And the whole concept of the everyman turned vigilante seems like one that played much better during the heyday of his books, back in the 1990's.

Are you sure about that? (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTaV8B8Oc0g)

Yeah, I sincerely doubt we'll see anything like that from YouTube, though.
I certainly think the character can still work.
-
I was just showing that the Punisher can work in a modern story. I'm looking forward to the next season of Daredevil!

+1 Not a big Punisher fan myself, but I'd watch something like that and looking forward to seeing more Marvel characters in the DD show.

Recently finished Jessica Jones. I thought they did a great job with it! I prefer the Netflix MCU shows to Agents of SHIELD.
-
We only have the last episode of Jessica Jones to watch, and it has been a pretty fun show. I think they may have stretched out the plot a bit to fill out episodes, but overall, I like it.
-
How PG-MA is Jessica Jones? I ask because I've been using my iPad at the gym and was thinking about starting that series but I heard there is some nudity that might not be appropriate for public. Just wondering if that is safe for the treadmill at the gym ;D
-
There's a few boning scenes with no nudity (you only see Kristen Ritter's back) in the early episodes.

No nudity, but pretty graphic nonetheless, particularly for a TV show.
-
I finished Jessica Jones over the weekend. There was a lot to like about it, but there was a stretch in there that was just so relentlessly dour and depressing that it's hard to really say I enjoyed it. Great performances, though. Really complex characters, especially for a "comic book adaptation." And constantly surprising - there were a number of very refreshing, unexpected plot turns that I appreciated.

Straight off his appearance in the 2nd season of the Netflix Daredevil series, the streaming television service has ordered a Punisher series as well. Check out the news at Entertainment Weekly (http://www.ew.com/article/2016/04/29/punisher-marvel-netflix)

These shows are without a doubt my favorite part of the MCU. I love the darker tone.
-
Luke Cage is yet another incredible entry into this group of series!
Bring on Iron Fist and bring on the Defenders!
-
3 episodes into Iron Fist, enjoying it so far.

I though Iron Fist was sort of a hot mess. But I am looking forward to the Defenders!
-
Season 3 of Daredevil has been very good. This is the Wilson Fisk we always deserved!!
Pissed about Iron Fist and Luke Cage getting cancelled. Hoping they have a future on Disney Streaming...
-
I'm through Season 2 of Daredevil and loved them both. I've watched the Punisher and it's probably my favorite of the Netflix MCU stuff. However, I'm going back to watch The Defenders before I start DD season 3.
I probably wont' watch the other spin offs unless I just have nothing to do. I tried watching Luke Cage and was something like four or five episodes in and was bored to tears.

Jessica Jones season 1 is really fantastic.
Luke Cage and Iron Fist are both much better in season 2.
