Quoting myself from a while ago:
Check out this news:
Party City to open Toy City stores in wake of Toys R Us demise (https://www.cnbc.com/2018/06/25/party-city-to-open-toy-city-stores-in-wake-of-toys-r-us-demise.html)
- Party City will open roughly 50 Toy City pop-up stores in September.
- The locations will sit alongside its Halloween City shops and run through the holiday season.
- The company hopes to capitalize on Toys R Us' demise, which left a void in the toy industry.
From what I can see, Party City is a national chain with locations all over the U.S. But the pop-up nature of this project means that they may just be testing the waters in the toy business.
And the first locations seem to have been revealed in Rockfather magazine (http://www.therockfather.com/news-and-reviews/toy-and-games/item/6234-toy-city-locations). They appear to include:

This list may be incomplete, as I have seen anecdotal reports of other locations that are not included on this list.
-
None near me but I’m kinda not surprised. Our malls are dead in general.
-
That one in Garland, Texas is about five minutes from where I work. I might swing by there just to see what they have.
-
Nothing near me either, which is absurd because I live in a state capital that has at least 3 different Party City and Spirit Halloween pop-up stores that would have been ideal for this kind of expansion.
Guess they don't want my money. :(
-
The only one for Chicago is southwest of the city and would take me about 45 minutes to get to.
Oh well!

Here's a vid of the flagship store in New Jersey. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5oe6xuGucnc
Can't believe we're not the targeted demographic.
Stoopid kids. >:(

At least a 3 hour drive to the closest one to me. I assume these will be like those Go Calendar stores in malls, where they have a better selection of figures (or any figures period), but 5POA stuff costs $13.99
-
I may check one of these out later today. But the closest one to me is at least 30 - 45 minutes away. Kind of a letdown, seeing how there was talk of popping up in old TRU locations, which is an even bigger letdown since I had at least 6 TRU locations within a 30 minute drive of my place.
-
Crap, nothing in MN.
-
Check your local news for more information about possible stores in your area. That list is far from comprehensive. It listed two locations in New Jersey. But a search of NJ media indicated that there are as many as 6 locations in the state.
A good number of the Toy City locations appear to be co-located with the seasonal Halloween stores like 'Spirit of Halloween' EDIT - It's sharing space with HALLOWEEN CITY. Party City owns both of them.
-
So who all's going to be camping out overnight the day before they open? Could be some Star Wars stuff in there!!
-
Disney and Hasbro have done their best to kill any fan interest in star wars. Odds are anything that shows up there will be left over TLJ and first wave Solo stuff from TRU.

Where's the like button?
;D

I assume this is going to be like the Fleet Farm Christmas section where some years it can be sweet because they get case assortments ahead of normal retail, but most of the time its the same old stuff, and in some cases quite old stuff - e.g. Solo Wave 1.
-
I tried going by one of the locations. It seems to be sharing space with HALLOWEEN CITY, but it wasn't open yet. From what I've read the retail space is rented out for Halloween City, and once Halloween is over the space will transition over to TOY CITY. And that should run through the Christmas holiday season.
-
So how much will old waves of figures be marked up? Scalper prices?
-
I'm guessing that the prices will be about 0.5% less than what you see at a comic and toy show.
-
That's not good.

I finally managed to check out a Toy City location. It shared space with a Halloween City location in a standalone building at one of the more busy malls in the New York/New Jersey area. In terms of the space and display pieces it is like a lot of pop-up shops that I've seen before (think Toys R Us Express, etc).
So what did they have? Honestly, not a whole lot. It looks like the focus of the store is largely on the Halloween City half of the store which has a good deal of stock. There are three aisles of Star Wars costumes. And in the costume aisles I also found 2 x Star Wars Black Series Darth Vader helmets. I did not see a price on these.
In the action figure aisle there is about 4 feet of shelf space devoted to Star Wars. And there was barely anything on the shelves. I saw 2 pegs worth of Hero Mashers and that was it! No 6" figures and no 3.75" figures either. There was a photo planogram hanging from one of the shelves that indicated they would eventually be stocking role play items like masks, lightsabers and Nerf. There is also peg space designated for the 6" Black Series, Vintage Collection and Titanium figures.
Near the registers there was a fairly decent supply of Funko Pops, but none of them were Star Wars pieces. In fact, there was so little toy stock that there were signs all over the Toy City half of the store saying "More Toys Coming Soon". I think that right now these stores are focused on Halloween and will shift that focus to toys come November.
