I thought TRU had been around $17.99 or so for the Deluxe Vehicles.

The comic costumes VS movie costumes was the subject of a brief quip in the first X-Men film.  Wolverine joked about the leather jumpsuits, saying "You don't actually go outside in these things, do you?", to which Cyclops responded "What, you think we run around wearing yellow spandex?"  The Wolverine yellow uniform is iconic, but in a real world setting it would probably look silly.

This is where I think that the Marvel movie properties have been a bit more real-world however fantastic the stories may be.  The X-Men's uniforms were based in function.  Magneto's helmet had a purpose:  to protect himself from Xavier's telepathy.  And the same goes for the Avengers characters:  Captain America's uniform was protective.  Iron Man's armor is based on technology.  Thor's garb is more acceptable since his origins are otherworldly, but it's still got a function as armor.

I've still got 100 or so pages left in Dance, and I'm trying to drag that out a bit.  And I'm going to go back and give Game of Thrones a proper reading since I skipped over it, having seen the HBO series.

But the stories of Dunk & Egg seem worth checking out, since some of those stories do get referenced in the novels.  Egg being the brother of Maester Aemon, of course.

Lord knows that it's probably going to be a little while until George R.R. Martin gets around to publishing "Winds".  So I'm trying to find some additional reading material to fill that waiting period.

Tying that to a BluRay release of a movie everyone already has (3 different ways) is stoopid...not to mention hardly anyone has a 3D TV

Agreed.  But if the MTT was going to be part of the January 30th street date, I think SOMETHING would have leaked by now.  Or at the very least Hasbro would be promoting it already.

That's a pretty decent look at The Winds of Winter.  It's following an established storyline from Dance, but doesn't give too much away.

In the meantime I'm trying to find some other things to read in the interim.  That being said, has anyone read The Hedge Knight, The Sworn Sword or The Mystery Knight?  I got a Kindle Fire for Christmas, and I've been pondering what my first digital book purchase might be.

The AAT is prominently featured in TPM, so I figure that the new version in the Class II vehicle line will be branded as part of that line.

If Hasbro is looking to release the MTT in August or September, they would have to try linking it to a TPM 3-D BluRay release.  From a promotional standpoint that might be their tie-in, or they may also try to link it to the launch of Clone Wars season 5.  So perhaps there will be some episode late in CW season 4 where MTT's are heavily featured.  Lucasfilm has a vested interest in Hasbro's success, so they could very well do something along these lines.

2 or 3 years ago, Hasbro might have had an opportunity to produce a Twilight vehicle.  But the fact is that it was only in the feature film and a total of 9 CW episodes.  And the show has moved on with the Jedi using an assortment of starships.  For a little while I thought that the T-6 shuttle might make for a 3.75" system vehicle, but it's had even less screen time than the Twilight.

Looking at it now, the Twilight seemed like blatant attempt to incorporate some kind of smugglers starship into the show that would be along the lines of the Millenium Falcon.  I still like the design and how it was a bit like the B-Wing, but it's not iconic.

The Republic Attack Shuttle may have suffered for a couple of reasons.  First, it didn't really come into play directly with main characters in any significant capacity.  That association with a main character is a big deal when it comes to drawing in non-collectors, ie Parents.  A big mistake of the collecting community in these discussions is that we continue to underestimate the purchase power of parents.  And then there's the economy.  I know there were big sales numbers for online retail this year, but when I was in the malls and stores around Christmas time there were noticeably less people.

As for prospects for a big MTT?  Let's wait and see.  The thing is, if Hasbro really wants to capitalize on the TPM 3D release, then this thing needs to be out soon.  How soon?  How about next month.  It needs to be fresh in the minds of movie-goers and parents.

Vader 'Lightsaber Double' Bob Anderson

Damn.  I had really been hoping to add Bob Anderson to my Vader autograph collection.  Very sad news.  But some of the sword fights he left us with in films including Star Wars and beyond will always be with us.  His work on Lord of the Rings alone is very noteworthy.

And looking through his IMDB page, it seems that he was also an Imperial Officer in TESB.  Does anyone know from which scene?

What is the Republic Recon Fighter with Anakin that is also listed in this wave? Is that a TPM based offering? Or another Clone Wars selection?

I was definitely thinking that this is THIS VEHICLE that was shown at Toy Fair 2011 with Obi-Wan.  That got cancelled, but Hasbro may have re-purposed it for Spring '12.  Plus, with the upcoming Naboo Skiff being offered with a TPM Obi-Wan, perhaps Hasbro wanted to get a different character paired up with the Republic Recon Fighter.  If they're going to be in the same Deluxe Figure & Vehicle assortment I can see Hasbro wanting different characters in the lineups.

Plus, there's this:  Hasbro has consistently stated that if they have PUBLICALLY shown an item in print or at industry events like Toy Fair / Comic Con, they feel a committment to getting that piece out to market.

That matches up with what I've seen.  It would've been nice to find some Magna Guards at 5 Below.

Well, it looks like they definitely visit LV-426, because it certainly looks like they find the wreckage of the alien ship that the crew of the Nostromo investigated.

The official trailer for the Alien prequel Prometheus is set to premiere tomorrow.  It's great to have Ridley Scott involved with the Alien franchise again!  There are already some teasers up on YouTube.

The trailer for Prometheus is now online.  And it looks like we get to see some serious backstory to things we saw in the original Alien.

Middle Earth / Re: The Hobbit - Toy Line
« on: December 22, 2011, 01:22 PM »
Well, that's the challenge, isn't it?  A license like both Hobbit films will have a run of about 2 years at retail, give or take.  Hasbro's Star Wars & Marvel teams have licenses that will last far longer.  And the same goes for most military figures.  Those lines have a much longer lifespan and can support an in-house modeling/sculpting/engineering team.  The Hobbit films don't have that going for them.
