Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Comic Book Thread
« on: January 7, 2011, 04:43 PM »
Maybe you guys can lead me in the right direction.  I've always been more of a toys, movies and toons guy, but recently I've had the urge to start reading some of the DC comic storylines.  The universe is so expansive, I'm not really sure of the best place(s) to start.  So far these are the only graphic novels I've read:

Batwoman: Elegy
Final Crisis
Superman: Escape from Bizarro World
Batman: Killing Joke
Supergirl: Way of the World
Jack Kirby's OMAC

I have a few waiting in the wings (Superman/Batman: Supergirl, Superman: Last Son, Justice League: Second Coming, Crisis on Infinite Earths) and I've started up a couple of recent series (Zatanna, Wonder Woman 600+, Batman: The Dark Knight).  What are some other "must reads" that I should add to that list?

Wave 17 has been revealed.

The series looks good enough, but DC Direct either has recently released or will soon release every figure here with the exception of Anti-Monitor.  I have a feeling these aren't going to be flying off the shelves.

Has anyone else noticed that CoolToyReview has become CoolEbaySponsorLink?  If you look reeeealy hard, you can actually see a couple of news posts in between those revenue-generating links.

All I've seen so far is a single Zatanna and Hourman, but I have set coming from a guy on RS.  With any luck it'll be here today or tomorrow.

Anyone having any luck with the K-Mart sale?  The two in my area are stocked with wave 13, though I did find a Batman and classic Starman at one on Sunday.  Aside from that "what we have on the shelves is all we have".  :|

Title says it all, kids.  I'm finding my way out of collecting and realized I still had this laying around.  First person that PMs me gets the card.

I nabbed the Batman & Robin set last night.  Robin's still too short.  :P  I like the paint scheme on Robin but I still didn't feel right spending $30 on it.

TRU has exclusive of GL, Flah, and Batman. I believe they are full cases of each. They have different paint jobs

Really?  I've seen Batman and Flash and they look no different.  I saw them both at Wal-Mart though...are there exclusive to TRU that have the different paint?  The GL is definitely different, and I like it quite a bit more than the wave 3 figure.

I saw the Aquaman/Manta 2-pack twice but haven't seen Batman & Robin yet.  I like the Aquaman but don't care much for the Manta.

Yeah, I STILL haven't seen this in stores and need the set!

Yesterday was the first time I had seen a figure from this wave at retail - a Wolverine that was in the clearance aisle at a Wal-Mart that I go to occasionally.  Odd thing is, there was nothing else from the wave, and figures from all the previous waves were still sitting in the normal toy aisles at $7.88 a pop.

And for the record, that Wolverine looks even worse in person than it did in the pics.  Ugh.

He smells more like Vick Vapo Rub to me.  There is a hint of pine.  It's kind of weird.

Ditto.  My wife says Pine Sol, but it really smells like Vicks to me.  Thankfully the smell has weakened over the last four days.  It was really strong the first couple of days.

I like that they're giving nods to the 200x cartoon series like they did with the alternate Moss Man head and the Zodak repaint.  Personally I prefer that series and hate that it was cut so short.  I'd even be up for an Evil Lyn repaint later down the road.

Moss Man arrived today.  I'm going to do a review tomorrow, but I have two things I have to say.

1) The "evergreen" doesn't smell like evergreen...it smells like Vicks Vaporub.

2) When you have a paper cut on your finger, the prickly flocked skin ******* HURTS.  :|

Just about the best news DCUC collectors could hear:

Wave 5 will be re-released!

This release is identical to the one in 2008 − same package, same decos, not a single change to the figures. Like all our boxed sets, these are individually carded figures packed into a single box. The set has the five figures you need to build a 9” Collect and Connect™ Metallo  figure.

They didn't post the price, but I suspect they'll go higher than the $15 they're charging for current figures.  I'm guessing $100 for the set.  Still...much better than $400 on eBay.
