Watto's Junk Yard / I'm gonna be a dad!!!!!!!!!!
« on: September 3, 2007, 03:43 PM »
Yesterday afternoon, I head off with a buddy to take some batting practice (I'm playing softball in 3 leagues in the DFW area) and she takes the test.

It obviously comes back positive and I'm freakin' thrilled to death.  For you dads, you know how high I'm flying right now.

It's a custom.  The bubble's all wrong.   ;)

First thing I noticed.  Damn, if I'm not careful I'm going to start looking like a Star Wars geek.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: JD Book Club: What Are You Reading Now?

I just finished reading Jawbreaker about the CIA leading the attack  into A-stan after 9/11.  Really good book.

I'm reading Stephen Coonts "Liars and Thieves," but put it down to read the above and may put it back down to read "A Bloody Business" about PMC's in Iraq and the role they are playing.

I started collecting a couple of vintage figures through a comic shop I visited just before college down in Corpus Christi.  When the POTF2 figs started coming out I was in college and went everywhere to pick them up.  I then went into EPI when I had no money and then into POTJ.  When I went overseas in 2001-2002 I spent my extra time and lots of money filling in spots in my collection buying pretty much everything I could get my hands on.  I came home and had a ton of stuff and lots of boxes to open.  EPII came out while I was overseas and when I came home I started picking up everything from that.

Pretty soon I had a bunch of stuff with no meaning to me.  I started selling some of my stuff, starting with EpII figs.  EPIII comes out and I picked up almost 100 clones and eventually sold those too.  Over the last two years I've started selling most of my stuff.  My wife and I bought a new home a year ago and after boxing up what was left of my collection, close to 15 boxes, I decided I had had enough.  I kept my vintage loose collection, my Han collection, and gifts that people had given me.  I decided I had enough and wanted less clutter in my home.

With the money I had, I bought a good amount of equipment for my home gym...thank god, no more trips to the gym to workout, just go into the next room.  i've been digging through and selling more stuff recently.  My collection looks neat and much more maneagable now that it has a place and a focus.  I still travel through the toy sections at Target, Walmart, and TRU, but don't purchase and modern stuff anymore.

You guys who have kids starting in the next couple of weeks, where do you live?  Unless it's a year round school, that's crazy starting this early.

I mentioned this in the new acquisitions thread, but I thought I'd post this here too.

My very first bootleg, a Polish unarticulated Han.  Not real sure if I want to keep it though.

Won't stop ******* raining.  Over the past 66 days we've had 46 days of rain.  We have large parts of North Texas that are flooding or on the verge.  Not a good situation for some.

We needed the rain after a 3 year drought, but good lord.  Our average for a year is about 34.5" a year, we are well over 36" now and we are only half way through the year.

Anyone else a great fan of Teddy Roosevelt's administration?

Walk softly and carry a big stick.  Our nation over the past 15 years should have taken some lessons from TR.

The first 224 were the best!

Especially 1981-1989.

 ???

Or do you mean 1980-1988?

President takes office in the odd numbered year.  Reagan was elected in 80, took office in January of 81 and left in January of 89.  Dressel was right on.

As for the last 7, just can't leave the political bitching alone can we?

God bless this country and everything it stands for.  Bless the people who have defended her so they can speak what they wish.

I think I contributed three or four pictures.  I've got one more Han to send in now that I think of it.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Gas Prices
« on: May 23, 2007, 10:42 AM »
Funny, Congress is 'posed to have some hearings on the gas issue soon.  I  can't remember where I read/heard this, but there has been talk of breaking up the major oil companies that merged in the 90's.  Congress is "worried" that oil companies are price gouging.  Gee, you think??  How long has it taken to figure this out...your government dollars at work.

However, in America, with only three major oil companies, there technically is no monopoly on gas, but the three companies do control distribution and pricing, so naturally they will all be in league with each other on prices.  Where each company jumps ahead of the others is within the company itself and who can cut costs.  Exxon-Mobil gets the nod here because they control most of their oil from the time it is loaded onto a ship until it is put into your gas tank.  Self contained organizations don't have to pay the middle man and are able to cut overhead.  So actually there is a monopoly with only three big companies in the business and they buy out or push out anyone who stands in there way.

I know that I'm getting a tad into conspiracy theories here.  I've also talked at length with my dad who is a petroleum engineer and worked for Exxon and Shell in the 70's and early 80's before he started his own production company. Much of the info he's given me has been regurgitated here and in several other posts on this subject.

They realized they sell the same amount of gas at $3.25 per gallon that they did at $1.05 per gallon.

So of course it's going to stay expensive.

I said this exact same thing last year.  This is an example of capitalism at its worst, as much as I hate to say that.
