Watto's Junk Yard / Re: 12/16/05... Stern's Wrapping Up
« on: December 16, 2005, 09:29 AM »
Hah...  By the way, a Star Wars moment...

Stern's producer (for non-fan's) Gary Del'Abate is basically never called by his name, he's just "Ba Ba Booey" which is a joke that goes back to like the 80's.

Anyway, one of the staffers sets Gary's nickname to every song imaginable...  The one that is easily the most used/popular is the Imperial March...  It's basically just "ba ba ba ba booey, ba booey...  ba ba ba, ba booey, ba booey..." you get the picture.

Well Gary was just doing his speech and the whole crowd was chanting the Ba Ba Booey Imperial March at him.  That was just great. :)

Customizing Tips and Tricks / Re: Fodder Alert - 11/15
« on: December 16, 2005, 07:57 AM »
Sahara's are not shipping heavily it seems.  one of each is all I'm hearing that people are finding ever...

BTW I popped a head with the arab wraps on it just for fun last night amidst some popping I was doing...  The wrap is a separate piece so this intrigued me to see what the head was underneath.

So I pop the head...  and the head underneath is comical.  It looks, not to sound crass, but like a white burn victim with a fade...  The head's smooth all around, and his ears have feint hints that ears were there but looks like something happened to them.  I just can't think of a good way to describe this honestly...  And on top of that there's this hair...  just on the top of his head.  It's comical.  Kinda like a fade/flattop haircut or Bert from Bert & Ernie.

Anyway, enough of that...  the arabic head wrap is GREAT.  It's a hat really once you get it off the figure.  It fits most every generic head I have in my fodder drawers, and man I was just thinking how cool I could make some Earth military customs but this'll also be a great Star Wars bit for civilians.  I mean why not have these kind of turban/robes on for civilians, ya know?  Padme sorta had one on when they were in disguise as refugees...

But yeah the wrap is cool for Star Wars but from an earth military it's great too...  There's big need for modern "enemy" figures, or civilians and whatnot for those 1:18 US military figures I have from Iraq/Afghanistan.  So far only 2 Eastern Warrior figures exist so these Turban wraps are cool bits.

The other thing is that they'd look great on British SAS from N. Africa too and US Special Forces (modern) customs.

I love how flexible they are though and after boiling they peeled right off the head easily and pop on/off various heads quite nicely.  Very cool, I must say.

Watto's Junk Yard / The Howard Stern Show
« on: December 16, 2005, 06:25 AM »
This thread's mostly just for the fans of Stern...  If you're like me, and still love listening to him every morning, today is the last day you're going to do so without paying for it...

I'm actually getting Sirius Satelite Radio for Christmas this year, and I'm excited...  I wasn't going to, but my buddy Dan got it last year and I've listened to his and it's really just fun to have.  I could listen to the comedy channel all the time actually just by itself, so Stern's move there is just really gravy to me since he's who I've always liked listening to in the mornings...  Stern's show hasn't lost anything to me.  It's as funny as ever, and with what he's allowed to do he makes it as funny as he can.  I am excited to listen to him at Sirius though, and hear the show as he intends...

I'm really sorta sad though.  The Stern show is something I've actually had as a big part of my life since I first saw/heard Stern when he did his old "Channel 9 Show".  That was when we really got true "Cable" in my area and Channel 25 carried Stern's show.  I had no clue who he was till then as he wasn't on in Pittsburgh on the radio.

When he came to Pittsburgh under Clear Channel's new alternative rock station "The X", I loved listening to him daily when I was able to.  His show of course got canned when Clear Channel basically were pussies, and we did without him in the city of Pittsburgh till K-Rock bought out one of the HORRIBLE Top 40 Stations our city was plagued with.  They've made one of the only listenable stations in Pittsburgh, but come the 25th I'm done listening to the BS in my car for anything but local information I maybe need (traffic, etc.).

I'm listening right now...  The show just started here.  Sounds insane with the crowds for it up in NYC for the final show.  The show yesterday with Jackie Martling coming back to say bye was GREAT, it was really funny and you remembered great stuff from just a couple years ago that really they can't even say/get away with now.  That's ****** just to think about but even their PC descriptions of these past events had me laughing early in the a.m., which isn't something I do much...  Not a morning guy, but I have to say that it sounds funny but Stern's show really did make my morning existance easier, more lighthearted...  It always gave me fuel for jokes and conversation with my buddies when we'd all get together on the weekend...  It meant a lot to me, in a weird way.

I'm happy and sad right now...  It's weird listening to what is his last show as the fans know it.  It's something that really was a big part of my teen to adult life actually.

Saga Collection '06 / Re: Battle of Hoth Wave
« on: December 16, 2005, 04:34 AM »
I'm a bit bummed to hear about Veers' headgear issue...  Hasbro, instead of getting off their cheap asses and sculpting a hat, sculpted the helmet so it fits OVER the hat...  Which I'm disappointed in that.

Still liking Veers a lot though, but man they can take any really good idea and just fall shy of greatness.  I'm probably more disappointed in the hat not coming off than I am in his lack of knee joints...  I mean, why not just sculpt the hat?  Hell, re-use it on future Imperial figures even...  Alas, perfection's not something they appear to want to give us unless it's $10.   Someone probably lost his job for Obi Pilot even making it into the basic line.  :P

Definitely some cool gear but it's a shame that the company seems to be so specifically focused on earth military and very little sci-fi...

I think if they'd take a note from Build-A-Rama and start branching into OTHER gear like diorama bits and maybe Sci-Fi generic items, they really could do even better...  Diversify the product line some.  I know I have some BAR stuff and it's choice...  Competition would definitely get my $ though, especially since BAR's slow to put anything out and they're non-responsive to Sci-Fi gear...  Considering the Star Wars market alone, Sci-Fi gear could be REALLY a good niche to jump into...

Hell with sponsorship, say around here, they really could tap a good market what with the photonovel guys and such...  Good potential there.

Yo Ryan,

Don't feel bad, I haven't even paid yet so it's not like I'm in a rush for you to get them out to me.  If anything I feel bad because I'm just caught up in the holidays and haven't gotten you paid so please don't rush those to me...

And of course I appreciate the offer for XD help...  Considering I"ve yet to see a single Japanese (Series 1 or 2), and that Battle of the Bulge (Series 1 or 2) figures are non-existant here too, I definitely need the help, haha...  I can't get enough of the 3 Germans really, and I haven't even got a complete set of Japanese figures so far...  I know I don't have the Officer and one other one...  Yet somehow other places have TONS of these figures literally falling off the pegs.

Where are these bastions of toy heaven!?  >:(  And why does Pittsburgh only get those goddamn Huey's all the time!?

18577
Clone Hunter...  I'm gonna PM you links to what the figures are/look like.  Just bare in mind there's NO accessories, so the seated Emperor is just that...  An Emperor sittin'. :)

PM coming your way with links to what the figures are though...

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: RS deletes accounts

Not long...  With any account he forms.  He makes his presence known then a ban comes.  People like him do the same, and they are given their shot to be a part here and if they can't do so by our rules and standards they are gone...  We like for people to be given a chance but when they prove they can't be a harmonious part of the community they're banned, and rebanned as much as is necessary irregardless of how persistant they are.

I think you guys would be surprised at A) just how little anyone there actually gives a ****, and B) just how much the staff here actually DOES give a ****.

I can safely say that yes a massive influx would be handled appropriately here...  Our staff are very vigilant about who's here, who's saying what...  And of course where they're saying it.  It's an underestimation to assume we couldn't handle ourselves with a larger population than we currently have.  Would we hire new?  Good chance we would just for our own ease, but I can tell you we would still run a better forum than Rebelscum, and I 100% firmly believe every word of that to be true.  It's not a matter of how many people, but a matter of how much you actually give a **** about what's going on at your site.

Case in point, it appears to me fraud and scalping are increasingly bigger problems there day after day...  No action = No Importance, not  their being "overwhelmed".  We've had our fair share of trolls, "newbs/noobs", douchebags, and instigators.  They're gone...  They're not tiptoed around, they're not sided with...  Some get a brief shot to improve and are gone, others are gone with their first foot-in-mouth asinine words.  There's people there to deal with it...  They just choose not to.

The Legacy Collection / Re: Fan's Choice Returns
« on: December 16, 2005, 12:00 AM »
My thoughts are all over the place.  I've yet to vote...  Right now in my mind I have:

-Kyle Katarn (Jedi Knight)
-Super Art. Rebel Fleet Trooper
-Super Art. Hoth Rebel Soldier
-Hermi Odle (gotta love the anti-Odle dips who just can't leave a thread alone and be civil)
-West End Games Space"Storm"Trooper

And I have to admit a Concept Vader's been on my mind but I doubt I go for that...  Other things are too important to me whereas Vader I'd live without if it didn't happen.  Cool if it did, but if it doesn't I'll live.

Other figures pop in but those are some of my all-time wants really.  Figures that, if the line ended (short of the Spacetrooper really though) I'd probably be upset without them ever happening on some level...

There's a couple mains on my wants list too, but word is the ones i want the most very well may happen so I dunno.  Main characters always just strike me as such likely choices to happen...  It's the army builders that have been shafted over the years the most to me, and Katarn just NEEDS a good figure.  He's an EU Icon to me and his figure is cool to have but doesn't do him any justice as an action figure.

Lots and lots of choices and it's killing me.

Saga '02-'04 / Re: The Search for a Better Obi Wan
« on: December 15, 2005, 11:52 PM »
ROTS Pilot Obi Wan with the Clone Wars Battlepack Obi-Wan's head on it looks real good.  Slap the Pilot Obi's headset on (little bulky, but as good as it'll ever get IMO), and you have a good AOTC Obi Pilot going there...

The heads swap perfectly too btw, no customizing necessary.

18582
In Rem, that's sacrilege! :)  No seriously though I like the Plo Rebel guy...  I like that you mixed up the paint on the skin especially.  I do however think that changing up the costume a little would help it some is all...  Of course I collect XD so the Japanese uniform stands out to me, but I think like adding unique "pouches" would help, and also I'd have considered giving him new legs that have the "traditional" Star Wars leggings...  Like the Endor guys had.  Nein Numb comes with ones that I think would fit perfect.  You'd lose moveable feet but I think it'd be worth it for "variety".

CHEWIE, your rebel is very cool and adds diveristy to the ranks...  For my tastes though I'm more a "uniform" guy even for the Alliance, so I'm not sure I'd have deviated from their traditional costumes as seen in the movies unless he's part of a guerilla force, however htis is all just aesthetic differences in how we view the Alliance so that's neither here nor there even...  The parts look great together.  I'm wondering how the arms blend in with the torso though?  They look good to me but without hte jacket I'd think the jacketed arms would show a gap.  Cool that they don't seem to.

Jeff's stuff's sharp.  I see your point CHEWIE about there being something with the blue soldier's look that stands out in a way.  I don't know the Andorian species to comment...  Chiss have red eyes so it's not one of them but that'd have been cool actually if it had been.  The parts match up well though so that's cool by me, and for my tastes the paintjob's great it's really just the eyes that don't match.  I think solid black would look better even, just to spice it up, but yeah Chiss red would look cool too...  Again though I don't know what species the Andorians are to comment on that much Jeff.

I like the Hoth Commander too...  Simple means of diversifying forces isn't anything bad.  A field backpack would add something I think if he's out there in the trenches, but that's just a minor tweak by my eye...  Maybe the addition of a cloth piece stuck to the hat would be cool?  A scarf you could wrap around the mouth would look pretty neat I think Jeff.

And your Rebel Commando/Endor Trooper is a simple parts swap but a good one.  Short of changing the facial features some way there's not much you can do to change him up...  There's a LOT of detail on the costume that can use a GOOD paintjob.  For instance a round pouch hangs off his right hip that's not even painted, but looks great...  It has straps hanging off it too, looks neat.

For a suggestion to those of you making figs, I've found that a GREAT swap to do for Endor Troops is that the legs/lower torso of the POTF2 Commando fit the Saga Endor Commando's upper body perfectly.  You just cut a top piece off the POTF2 figure's lower torso, but the fit is great then.  It makes for a better "neutral" stance Saga figure.  Simple enough and with some repainting another good way to add diversity to your ranks again.  And it gets rid of those ugly action posed Saga figure's legs too.  :)

Toy Reviews / New JD Review: Anakin Skywalker "Sith Eyes"
« on: December 15, 2005, 11:37 PM »
Ok, we're back thanks to the more tech savvy staff here working hard. :)  Yours Truly can't do **** with html.  Hell, I thought that meant hotmail for a long time actually.

Anyway...

This time around we're looking at Anakin Skywalker (Slashing Attack) with "Sith Eyes" Paint Variation...  long title huh?

I have seen this guy a couple times actually...  Not a lot, but about as much as I saw Black Clone Pilots which was disappointingly infrequent.  At the same time though, this Anakin figure ain't no cool EU Clone either...   :-\

Anakin's best feature are his bitchin' red fireballs he has for eyes, and I'd say his arm articulation is passable...  Better than average.  His legs suck though, and Hasbro loses my praise at that point.  Lacking knee joints would have made this a very good general Anakin Skywalker figure actually...  And also the leg's sculpt in a sorta leaning/action pose really hurt the figure as well.  Basically, if you want flaws you'll find them primarily in the leg region.

Read the review and enjoy...  I've been slowing some with reviews because A) I'm busy, B) I'm real busy, C) unlike others I am on the short end of finding stuff generally despite how much I hunt...  That's collecting in Pittsburgh,  D) With the final 12 a lot of stuff was repetitious at times.  Fear not though, I've got final Evolutions on tap, and hopefully Saga not too far away god willing I find them relatively quickly.

And if a fire gets lit under my ass I may get to other stuff too...  I've got things I meant to review but didn't get to, so hopefully I just get to at some point.

Thanks for reading guys, and Happy Festivus to you all.

I definitely felt that way too...  Good army builders too if you have some imagination about EU variety and stuff.  If you're a film purist though, red and green commanders likely fell quite flat much like the black pilot would.  That sucks because they're all good figures really...  just not film figures.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: LOTR's 'The One Ring' Inscription?
« on: December 15, 2005, 09:12 PM »
I'm pretty sure it is in Dark Speech, the language of Mordor. It is a dialect of elvish I believe...

Yup, it's the language of Mordor and Ryan's right that it's sorta related to Elvish...  Mordor's language is, like all the evil, kind of a bastardization of Elvish...  Much like Orcs are twisted Elves in a way and such.

And of course there's a lot more to the "poem" than the ring's inscription too...  I can't remember it all but that is the proper inscription translation I'm pretty sure.
