For about the past ten years or so, I've been rockin' a checkbook wallet. But not just any old checkbook wallet. No, this one's special: It has Darth Vader's face embossed into the front of it. (http://images.dvdtalk.com/images/smilies/lol.gif) It's getting kind of beat-up a little, kind of worn out, but the main thing is: It's a checkbook wallet, and I don't even carry checks around in it anymore! And haven't, ever since I got a debit card, and that was a good seven or eight years ago, at least. Why am I carrying this huge piece of leather around with me all the time, when I'm not even using it the way it was intended to be used?
So the other day, I got to thinkin': Maybe it's time for a new wallet.
And after looking at a few department stores and online shops, you know what kind of wallet is ticklin' my fancy? The bi-fold? Nope. The tri-fold? Try again. The front-pocket wallet? You got it.
(Yep, this is my actual new wallet, and that's me, back when I lived in Utah, during my David Koresh phase.)
There's something very appealing to me about the front-pocket wallet. You got your I.D., facing out, on one side, you got your debit/credit cards on the other, and there's a pocket for your cash in the middle. That's everything you need, right there.
Simplify, simplify, simplify. That's my mantra for 2008.
So I think I'm gonna get me one of these. Something very similar to the one pictured above. I looked at the mall the other day, and they had some that were very close to this, but they all had money clips on the outside. And I don't think I like the idea of an exposed money clip. I mean, not only would the cash (all eleven dollars of it) be in plain view of anyone, anytime I pulled my wallet out, but also the clip itself, sticking out a little bit. I think that would bug me. So yes, I refuse to have an external money clip.
Anyway, I'm looking at several different front-pocket wallets right now. Haven't decided on one yet, but when I do, I will update this thread first thing.
In the meantime, what kind of wallet do you guys have? Anybody have a front pocket? Perhaps you've got a bi- or tri-fold wallet, or maybe even a Darth Vader checkbook wallet. Who knows.
I just hope nobody here has a Costanza.

I'm sporting a single fold made by Mandarina Duck. I picked it up in Italy about 4 years ago, I think it's made of neoprene. I really like this wallet, but it's starting to get pretty worn out.
Imagine this, but with more sleeves, a fold, and all that stuff on the inside.

Basic bi-fold that at times approaches Costanza, only because I don't clean it out enough. Basically I have the bad habit of keeping all my receipts in there for no good reason. No button closing though.
I'm kinda irritated with all the swipe cards for various point systems that retailers have, mostly because I'm not bright enough to say no. So I'm carrying way, way more cards than I really need to. I probably only really need to carry my credit cards, debit card and ID most of the time. But I've got a couple of airline cards, at least three different retail "points" cards, a couple of gas station points cards and so on. Plus I stuff some extra business cards in it as well. So it is manageable enough when it's empty of receipts, but gets messy quickly :-[ It can always fit in a pocket without being overly obtrusive though.
Mine is severely beaten too. But I really like it, to the point where years ago, I bought an exact duplicate of it (from a retailer that has since gone out of business). I just can't bring myself to endure the break-in period of a new leather wallet.
-
i am still rolling with the standard bi-fold. my front pockets are for keys and cell phone, so i am not that keen on the front pocket wallet. my brother uses one and says that once you get used to it its pretty cool.
i get a new wallet every 3-4 years for my anniversary. i don't usually feel that i need one, but its probably a good idea to upgrade every once in a while just for the excuse to throw out all the business cards and receipts that get built up.
-
I have a bi-fold wallet but am thinking about movie to a money clip.
-
I'm sporting a leather tri-fold that I've probably had for 12 years or more. I just started to notice in the last few weeks that it's about on its last legs though.
You wouldn't think that upgrading a wallet would be such a big deal but for some reason I can't seem to get excited about seeing this one go.
I'm not, however, a fan of the front pocket. I'm with John, those pockets are for keys, change and whatnot, not a wallet.
E...
-
None.
I carry my debit card and a few bucks in a side pocket. Driver's license in the car with the registration.
I learned from Costanza.
-
I've got a single fold tall fossile wallet. It doesn't have the check pocket in it and I've never carried checks around anyway. Mine stays nice and clean and isn't used to hold a bunch of junk in. I've got my required ID's, debit card, credit card, insurance cards, and of course my good ol' Vitamin Shoppe card.
-
Speaking of wallets, I would like to find a trendy 'man bag' to carry mine and everything else:
*Wallet
*Phone
*ipod
*Smokes
*Lighter
*Gloves
*Gum
*Keys
Where am I supposed to put all this ****?
-
Front pocket with a money clip. I actually just switched to this type after years of having a bi-fold back pocket type for all the typical wallet stuff and a separate money clip in the front pocket. I got tired of carrying all the extra **** I managed to accumulate (insurance cards, seldom used credit cards, etc.) that I decided to switch and just keep my drivers license, 2 debit cards, 1 credit card and my work access card with me at all times and just grab any of the other stuff when I need it (which hasn't happened yet). The front pocket type was a perfect fit - it's not intrusive and fits perfectly in my front pocket.
And my ass cheek doesn't hurt from sitting on a wallet all day...
-
Canvas bifold, sans velcro (shudder). I've got too many cards to go for a smaller, front-pocket type wallet. It's the cards that do me in, including three credit; one debit; license; three med. insurance (me, plus my two kids); Safeway, Costco, BevMo and Albertson's club; and Target, Peet's Coffee, Gap and Bloomingdale's gift cards. (That's 16 cards, ugh.)
-
I have this one-
(http://www.entertainmentearth.com/images//AUTOIMAGES/NC33308.jpg)
It's a single-fold, with barely enough room in it for my credit/debit cards and license. But it's neat as hell to have, especially when I'm at the store and get it out in front of old people.
-
My wallet (http://www.ae.com/web/browse/product.jsp?catId=cat90022&productId=2225_4232)
I like it due to the two slots in the front for ID cards (easy for me since I have to use my school ID a lot) and the inside can hold about 6-8 credit/gift cards and whatever else you need. Plus there's a lot of space for cash.
-
I'm not, however, a fan of the front pocket. I'm with John, those pockets are for keys, change and whatnot, not a wallet.
What if you carried a front pocket wallet in your back pocket? Are you allowed to do that? ???

In your vagina, that's where.
"I would like to find a trendy 'man bag'." Sheesh. ::)
-
Bi-fold- approaching Costanza-esque.
Between the ID, check card, 2 credit cards, health insurance card, dental card, science museum pass, zoo pass, car insurance cards (I never remember to change the ones in the glove box), library card, coffee punch card for work, caribou card, access card for day-care, misc notes/directions, a couple of gift cards from Christmas, and both dollars I don't think I could use anything smaller. But I'll develop scoliosis before I get a purse.
-
In your vagina, that's where.
"I would like to find a trendy 'man bag'." Sheesh. ::)
In my vagina? That's crossing the line there buddy.
It takes a real man to admit his need for a purse in contrast to some dip**** who is constantly losing his **** because he has no medium by which to transport his 'stuff.'
Oh, look here Matty - who's this sporting a 'European Carryall'?
-
It's not a purse!
It's a European Carryall.

Can't go wrong with the Jack Sack™
(http://coffeeandcapitalism.com/blog2/wp-content/uploads/2006/05/flyingmanpurse.jpg)
The Jack Sack makes Batman's utility belt look like a piece of rope. ;)
-
So I guess Jack and Indy have vaginas now...
-
I think the stuff they're carrying around in their utility bags is probably a little bit different than the lipstick and tampons you'll be carrying around in yours, ma'am.
-
So I guess Jack and Indy have vaginas now...
If Jack and Indy had vaginas then I'd turn into a lesbian............
-
Tracy - you're a woman, what do you think of the man purse?
-
I have been known to roll with my Kenneth Cole Reaction bag from time to time.
It does a good job holding the keys, Palm pilot, cell phone, iPod, DS, pens, gum, notepad, etc while travelling.
I figure, if Chewbacca/Indy/Jack Bauer can carry a man (wookiee) bag, then so can I.
-
Honestly, it depends on the man and the "purse" he's carrying. If he's confident about it, it's kinda sexy. I don't even think of a canvas bag or a messenger-type bag as a man purse. I think it looks a lot better than a bunch of stuff crammed in your pockets.
-
So I guess Jack and Indy have vaginas now...
I think if you're carrying the Cross of Coronado, a golden fertility idol, or nuclear warhead launch codes you get a pass.
I'm with Tracy, though....I would think of those more as attache's or messenger bags, not manpurses. Besides, you don't see Indiana Jones carrying that satchel around when he's off the clock...just when it's in action.
I tend to think of the manpurse as more along these lines:
smaller...more pouchlike.
Still...I think you could get away with it. I just wouldn't want the hassle of something over my shoulder all the time.
For the record, I have one of those moneyclip pocket wallets that you described, but it's wearing out and it's a tight fit for all my cards. I need to be in the market too, but ....meh...maybe I'll just do this:

i was thinking the same thing. if your man bag has guns and explosives in it, you are ok.
-

That's a lot of crap there, buddy. But smokes? Smoking is bad! Just looking out for your health, that's all. Plus, it would be two less things for you to carry (smokes + lighter).
I use one of these
(http://www.kjbeckett.com/acatalog/002927_main_m.jpg)
It fits the bill nicely (no pun intended).
-
I have a basic, brown leather bi-fold wallet. It serves my purposes well enough.
I do have a Swiss Army 'man bag', as well.
-
"man bag" sheesh. I thought all we needed was a nice wallet in our back pocket? front pocket and man bagging....I must have missed this casual lesson in school... ???
-
Umm...trifold leather straight from my trip to Italy a few years back. ITs held up well, but the picture-flap-thingie needs to be replaced. Man-bag? Get real. Its a purse.
-
Trifold...I have the following cards:
Driver's License
Work RF Card
Insurance Card
Library Card
Hunting/Fishing License
Check Card (I don't carry much cash)
Credit Card
Plus a picture of the YCB's
Even at that amount it is pretty damn thick
-
Even at that amount it is pretty damn thick
Yeah, but, what if I sent you a wallet sized pic of yours truly? Would you have room to fit that in there too? ???
-
what do you guys think of the back pack? my brother in law carries one pretty much every where. for me it always gets back to "do i need all this crap". for me the answer is usually no, but apparently he needs his laptop, some books, ipod, pencils and pens, and sometimes a change of clothes with him at all times.
-
i have literally carried this wallet around since I was eight or so:
the Mario picture is one of those moving image things with Mario picking up the mushroom and holding it over his head in a very phallic pose. my wallet is completely coming apart due to the 20+ years of use it has gotten. it has a nice clear window for photo ID and a few different pockets for cards, etc. unfortunately, it's about time to retire the poor thing before it melts away. and that's my wallet. thanks, everyone.
-
unfortunately, it's about time to retire the poor thing before it melts away.
When you do, give it to me. I'll give you a dollar. Deal?
-
Tri-fold, and not a very good one.

i'm thinking of having it bronzed, actually. i've looked for the same one on ebay before, and the few times i've seen one, they go for over $100-150, oddly enough. it's quite the item.

Just ordered one of these bad boys:

The Johnston & Murphy Weekender Case, Chocolate
I'm very, very excited about all of this.
-
a chocolate wallet seems a bit excessive to me. but hey, congrats.
-
I think chocolate is the color, not the flavor.
But when I get it I'll let you know for sure.

I realize the time has been short with your tasty wallet but what has been the better purchase, your wallet or your smelly ass flip flops

Still searching for a manly man purse.
Any suggestions*?
*Save the smart ass comments for your momma.

I realize the time has been short with your tasty wallet but what has been the better purchase, your wallet or your smelly ass flip flops
Mmmm. . . that's a tough question. Apples and oranges. Wallets and flip-flops.
Difficult to say. I very much enjoyed my smelly ass flip flops but they only lasted me a year or so. Whereas I expect the new wallet will last me much longer. Plus, the wallet was cheaper. So the wallet is probably the better bang for my buck, but I did really, really enjoy my flip-flops in the short time we had together.
So, can I answer this later?
(By the way, I've been meaning to order some new flip-flops for the upcoming Spring and Summer. Perhaps a thread-bump is in order?)
-
I bought a fairly nice Kenneth Cole black, leather bifold wallet. It's pretty good for carrying my cards and ID, which is about all I have in there. And doing that keeps it on the slim side, so I don't wind up with George Costanza syndrome. I keep my cash in a stainless steel money clip.
-
I have a Costanza easily. been ribbed about it ever since Seinfeld came out.
-
Still searching for a manly man purse.

Dunno, but when you finally find the right man purse, make sure it has the Patriots logo/emblem embroidered on there somewhere.
-
Nah, next year I'll be on a different bandwagon.
-
Constanza wallet all the way.
Sure, get ribbed- but typically could care less.
Actually, my plan is to develop some health condition from the lack of blood flows it causes, then do something about when that happens.
About 2 inches high, resembling a small square shaped cheeseburger.

I expected my new wallet would last me much longer, but apparently my dog didn't. He had it for a snack yesterday. Now, he's had plenty of opportunities to eat it before, but always left it alone, so why all of a sudden he decided to chew it up one day. . . well, only he knows why, I guess.
Anyway, immediately ordered another one, exactly the same as before, and I was even able to get the same price on it, which I was happy about. What I'm not happy about is having to order a new debit card. I guess what's nice about the front pocket wallet is that so few things fit in there, that when your dog chews it up, there's not a whole lot in there you have to replace.
What I'm trying to say is, the wallet so nice, I ordered it twice!
-

It's not a man purse it's called a manbag. ;D
I sport a fossil Wallet/Money clip combo. The money folds into the outside clip and the credit cards/id's fit in the inside fold. Thin, stylish, functional and durable. link (http://www.fossil.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=12052&catalogId=10052&categoryId=30015&parent_category_rn=30000&productId=1000758&N=0&PSID=SDXSRCHFSLB060107_MAINLINK)

Maybe he had a sudden cocoa bean craving and decided to tempt fate by sampling your chocolate wallet.

Nice callback. :)
-
My girlfriend go tme a money clip for my birthday and i have been trying to use it. I kind of like it.
-
Well I had one of those front pocket holds your cards and a moneyclip type wallets for years and years, but it was getting pretty beaten up, and it was getting to hard to get to certain cards because it was overpacked. The leather on the money clip had worn and split, revealing the metal inside. Plus I've started carrying cash a lot more lately, and it was getting annoying.
So last night I bought a new brown leather bi-fold wallet from Target. Holds 8 cards, bill divider in the main pocket. I'm happy. So very neat and tidy. Almost all my cards have their very own pocket. Was so nice to buy lunch today and easily pluck the right bill out of my wallet, then easily file the change away in order without having to deal with this big sweaty wad of cash.
My only complaint is that I have to get my ID out a lot at work to swipe through doors, and it's a little more cumbersom to do that now. Oh well.
Mine tastes like boisenberry.
-
I've got some kind of eel-skin wallet. It's alright, I guess, but I've wanted to downgrade to a cheap, light canvas for a long, long time.
-
Mine is just a simple brown lether wallet. There's no cash in it. My wife has it all! :o
-
Even though I am not a gentleman, I am butting in to point out the new Coach (http://www1.macys.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=297509&EXTRA_PARAMETER=ZOOM&trackingCat=25319&PseudoCat=25319&CURRENT_PAGE=0) wallet I just picked up this past weekend. At first I wasn't sure I wanted pink (not Colman pink) but I like it. Now, I just need to find a matching pair of shoes....
-
I'm pretty sure I could rock that.
-
I just noticed that for some reason, I brought my 7 year old's wallet to work in my pocket today.
And hey...as long as I'm taking stupid pictures of wallets...here's my new bifold that I bought this month. Love it soooo much better than that messy front pocket card holder/money clip that I carried for so long.

I could see that happening -- if you guys were out somewhere and he asked you to hold it for him. But ewww - that would mean you didn't wear clean pants to work today.............. :P
-
A mostly empty one unfortunately. :P
Anyone know where to go to get a new plastic picture window thingie? I can't find one without buying a new wallet and don't really want/need a new wallet.
