Since we were talking updates to our collection pictures, here's my Kubrick Case with nine empty slots ready for Series 4:

And, not to be left out, my display case with my Speederbike set and my Max Rebo Band:

No carded Kubricks (yet), but for now (until Series 4 debuts) I'm happy with my chase-less Series 1, complete Series 2 and 3, and all 4 box sets (EB Kit, Speederbike, TRU, Rebo).   ;D

I was looking for a better way to display the kubricks that I have, unfortunately I wasnt able to find anything that would suffice, Last week the wife took me into a kitchen shop and of all the places to find what I needed.
It was a dodgy spice rack , that had some really bad rubber glued over the plastic, took about 3 hours to get the plastic and glue residue off the thing and then I gave it a quick coat of paint.
Here is the end result

Jeff - Are these actual Kubrick/Bearbrick cases?  How are you getting IG-88 & Carbo-Han to fit?  IG-88 won't fit for me and Carbo-Han scratches the  case if I try to put him in like you have shown.

They're Johnny Lightning cases designed for diecast cars but work perfectly for Kubricks.  A bunch of people use them here (after we all stole borrowed the idea from Scott (OCB))

Do they "lock" together in any way like the Kubrick cases do?

I'm thinking not...
Title: Re: Show me Your Kubes!
Post by: Jayson on January 5, 2007, 01:37 PM
they interlock on all 4 sides/edges for making one giant display case of limitless sizes.

My collection from August.... new display photos to come soon!

Yep, made it myself and gave a few to the local MN Kubrick Crew.

Here's my new set up with Series 7 added

Those do look nice.
I had one in my hand and put it down!
Now that I know IG-88 won't fit in the medicom ones I have on the way, I may have to snag one of these just for the bounty hunters.
Thanks for the heads up.

Jeff,
Is that display from the Cantina three pack that had the blue Snag/Kitik, etc. in it?  Or something else, my memory might be wrong since all I ever see is cardboard.

I was very disappointed to find that IG-88 & Carbo Han didn't fit in the cases I just bought....now I'm debating if I want to dump those cases and switch'em all to the Johnny Lightning cases or just purchase a couple for select Kubricks....

That case was one of those larger die-cast car cases.  I can't remember the name of it, but it cost like $6 at TRU.

Yep, made it myself and gave a few to the local MN Kubrick Crew.

As a lucky recipient, I can vouch for the coolness of the Kubrick banners.   8)

Looking good Jay!  Just a few more to track down!   ;)

Here's a nice shadowbox frame I picked up on clearance at walmart for $11.  I originally got it to hang horizontally and put my kubricks in it but I wondered how it would look with some protos in it.  Looked good and free'd up some space in my glass display so I'm gonna leave em and get another for the kubis but it should hold at least 27 kubricks if hung horizontally.

You may.  Most of what's been available so far has been what was sold at the event.  The collector's club versions haven't been shipped out yet as I understand it (they are shipped some time in March), so the price may drop more yet.

I got lucky.
It was my turn for the Chase that time around.
I paid $110 for the Imperial officer, but I sold him not to long ago.
Just too many other things I'd like to get and Bricks were getting a little insane.
No way I can be a completest.

I do love the 400% ones though, the BH Fett is great.

Nice army Hemish, those days are over for me.

Madcow, I've gotten rid of allot of stuff as well, just can't keep up.
I ordered an RAH Fett, but I'm not going to keep it, I may get the Die cast one instead, but I can't keep both.
Dumping some Alien Kubes as well and skipping the new Box set.
Its out of control and I must bring it to a trickle.

Still impressive MC, lots of cool stuff...oh, I kept my Indy as well!

Man all of these Kubrick pics are freakin awsome.I recently just got into these and I Have a small collection so far I will post a pic as soon as I get one taken.Where is the best place to get good deals on these?

Look in the Marketplace here on Jd or over at KN, KN sometimes has group buys where people go in on cases as well:

And ebay,

Got my first 6 Bricks from JEsse this weekend and went to TRU to get some cases over lunch.  Had to take a quick camera picture while I'm still here at work to share with everyone.

Once I get the rest that I'm expecting, I'll make sure I take an updated picture.

Once I get the rest that I'm expecting, I'll make sure I take an updated picture.

Got more of the ones I was expecting so I decided to post what I have.  Here's where the collection stands today:

I've lined up a purchase that should finish off Series 5 with Snaggletooth, and I've also purchased Series 1 and Series 4.  I'm waiting to receive the Series 7 Chase Senate Guard, Series 3 Jawa and Series 2 Cantina Band Member.  Last but not least is the TRU #2 set that should be arriving any day...

It's been one hell of a month  ;D.

Title: Re: Show me Your Kubes!
Post by: BrentS on January 18, 2008, 11:39 PM
Thanks guys.  So far, pretty much everything fits.  I double checked the height for IG-88 before I ordered it.  The columns on the left and right edge are slightly wider than the others for the extra wide figures.  The biggest problems have been getting the Kubricks with lightsabers in place so that they could fit reasonably well.  As far as non-SW Kubes, the Green Goblin's hover glider does fit so he's displayed without them.

I used Museum Gel product to stick all the Kubricks down on the acrylic floors.  They seem to be quite stable.  As could be expected, some of the Kubes are loose and their waists are wobbly and some have the over springly legs and they get positioned kind of funny.

However, when its all said and done, I'm really happy.  Its nice to see what a few months of hard work can turn into :)

Thanks guys-

Jeff, you are definately the main dealer- there are dozens of tie pilots, death star troopers, and death star gunners waiting for the imperial navy hanging bay and death star gun area to be built. This long drought between waves has left me picking up additional imperials here and there-

And I bet you didn't know the creature from the black lagoon was an imperial spy. Yup. Meetin with Tarkin and everything.

Sweet Scott, a very nice display.  8)

Question? For the 1st pic: do I see a mixture of Medicom display cases top left & right & diecast display cases for the bottom Kuby's?

I found a place in the city here that sells 1:64 display cases (http://www.diecastdepot.ca/description.php?PID=2294) that hold 6 for $8.95 CDN & they interlock to join more display cases together. Is this what you guys are using?

Also the display cases for the modern & vinty figs are kick ass with the mirror background.  8)

With all the excitment over SW Series 8, I finally got off my Butt and updated my Kube Case.  I'm running out of room!  Sorry the picture is a bit too blurry.

I only added one SW Kubrick (Tarkin) but a bunch of Marvels, some Shrek, and two Jack Sparrows.  I also had two Disney Kubricks but since Jafar wouldn't fit I decided Aladdin wouldn't go in either.

I just set it up so I don't know how hard it will be to dust, but I think I'll just use compressed air to blow it away (the Kubricks are held down to some degree using Glue Dots, so they shouldn't be affected by it).

After much searching, I found some cool displays for my Kubricks--at the Target, in the form of little steps designed to hold spices.  Anyway, I've got two of them covered in Kubs--one exclusively Star Wars.  I got a couple more, and the Kubs to fit on them, but no space on the shelves yet :(

If anyone else it looking for alternative displays for Kubys, Hot Wheels currently (http://www.hotwheels.com/showcase/product.aspx?product_number=N4154&category_id=7500) has a line of cars out now that includes an acrylic case very similar to the small interlocking official Kuby cases. I think they run about 3-4 bucks each.

Just updated my collection pictures.  It's not eveything I own, but it's what I've been able to put back on display since the basement flooded.  More to come...

So what are the 4 spaces in the star wars collection cases for then?

You display your figs the same way I do almost right down to the choice of fig to put in with the 5 packs ;)

Off back to stare and drool some more :P

So what are the 4 spaces in the star wars collection cases for then?

I had some customs in there, but decided that I'd leave those spaces open for any additional figures I'm able to pick up, like the L-Slot Fett that coming.  Eventually, they will be filled with figures I still need to finish off the collection.

You all have some nice sets displayed. I just ventured into them recently, though mainly looking for the main Heroes and Baddies... tough to not delve further into the dark side though.

Holy crap!  That's a lot of Kubes.  I'd be too frustrated with all the Kubes hidden in the back.  You could wall mount them and just make a full room wall out of these.  Maybe even a 2-layer wall in the middle of a room so you can see half on one side and half on the other?  Nice collection regardless!

Yeah, I'll probably end up hanging groups of them on the wall like framed pictures.  And as far as the back rows, they're more accessible than they look.  Plus, I snapped photos of each wall, so I can see em any time.  :)  Here's one:

My wife thought it would be fun to let the boys have their own Christmas tree this year.  When it came time to put ornaments on it, the perfect fit were the extra Kubricks I had.  We sprinkled in a few Hasbro figures for fun and bought a Yoda tree-topper to finish it off.  I'd still like to get a few more Kubrick figures to add to this, but I think it's pretty fun the way it is.

Revamped my Kubrick display this weekend and wanted to see what people think.  I usually display my stuff by collection or series, but decided it would be fun to see different versions of each character next to each other.

So, I started with Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie, R2, & C3PO in the middle.  I put all the Hans, Lukes, etc next to each other, then flexed out the gaps with remaining characters.  The top cases are split with stages of Vader/Anakin in the center followed by Imperials on the left and Jedi, clones, cantina aliens, and droids on the right.  The bottom row (above my BSG mates) is the Fett Family and S1 bounty hunters.

Now I just have to figure out what to do with Sacul, Jar Jar, and the Rebo Band.   :P

For those who don't know, about half of my rares have come from the D.U.C.K.  (Dan's Uber Collection of Kubricks).  I don't know where my collection would be without Dan, but I do know that I'd probably have that second flat screen TV by now.   ;)

At Shane's Toy Show this past weekend, my Kubrick/Be@rbick collection was on public display for the 1st time. These pics were taken about 2 hrs before the show opened. I received alot of Kudo's on the display.  8)

Wow!  Very nice display sir.  Do you have them displayed at home in similar fashion?  Pretty cool to see everything together like that.

I will say though, I have never seen display cases displayed inside of a larger display case before.  You may be borderline OCD.   ;)

Title: Re: Show me Your Kubes!

I agree--sweet display, Stealthtank. What kind of riser steps are those? Are they just clear medicom cases stacked up?
Title: Re: Show me Your Kubes!
Post by: StealthTank on September 27, 2010, 07:36 PM
Thanks guys!

I bought my own Master Cases and landed an AT-ST Driver and a Rebel Trooper.

And the risers are indeed from Medicom's clear boxes.

It's probably the last time I buy a Master Case for awhile, though, as I would have lost money even if I had sold the chases.  In the old days, I was able to purchase boxes from Robby for $59 bucks a piece ($236 per MC) and be able to keep and complete a set while making my money back by selling the rest.  Now, it's three times that for the same number of figures and chases.  I have a feeling many of the sellers are sitting on their chases, thinking that their value is higher than current selling prices.  If Medicom doesn't lower their prices considerably, I think they will continue to find it difficult to find retailers who are willing to carry kubricks, leaving us to fight over the secondary market from dealer's who have taken a bath on their initial investment.

That's really a bummer. You were the first US seller on ebay to have these (I got a set of 6 from you ;D) and since then I haven't seen too many others. Hopefully Medicom does something about this so collectors don't have to give up on getting cases.

Yeah man.  I bought some figures from you, as well, but do feel bad knowing you had to eat so much money trying to acquire the full set for yourself.  Bummer.

I have a feeling many of the sellers are sitting on their chases, thinking that their value is higher than current selling prices.

Yikes.  I was thinking the prices are a tad too high.  I think ballpark $130 is about right for a 1/96 chase pieces, at least to me.  If sellers are waiting and hoping for a lot more I think they'll be fairly disappointed.

I'm a little worried Medicom is doing somewhat the same thing as Gentle Giant has done in overestimating the market and the willingness of Star Wars collectors to spend as much as they used to.  GG's at least seen the light in dropping back the production numbers and price increases have only been modest ($55-75 for a bust).  Medicom seems to have gone through the roof and at least for me it's going to drive me even further from buying stuff.  I got a box this series because I got it for considerable savings off most retail but at a loss to the seller.  I'm now at the point where I'll buy a figure if it's new relative to vintage (i.e. the vintage figure exists but Medicom hasn't released that figure yet) but beyond that I'm not even going to be looking at complete series' unless the BAF is incredibly cool.  Jabba was a must have but in retrospect I don't need vehicles.

And yeah, nice display Scott.

Built a few wooden display frames for the collection over the holidays. Here's the basic wooden frame, which can be hung on the wall separately, or it can be stood on the separate floor stand / base. The frames are also stackable, so they can go about 3 high on top of the base, forming a bookcase of sorts. The frames have a white masonite backer board, which holds the cases in, the white color makes the figures a lot more visible, and it's also removable, so the 6x20 cases array can be removed, updated, and replaced inside the frame. With just one frame on the base as shown, it sort of looks like a mini-big screen tv :) , though that wasn't the intention.

Still need to sand these down, but I can't decide if I'm going to stain them or paint them black. So far I have 12 frames and 4 base units, comprising three full "bookcase" structures. Unfortunately, these won't even house the entire collection, so I'll be making a few more.

Sweet collection and setup, Adrian! That galactic heroes sail barge fits in perfectly. Is that the carded chewbacca in the cantina bar photo? His coloring is pretty cool.

I also use a curio cabinet type thing to display my kubricks.  I was lucky enough to find it on my block, out for the trash, but in great condition. It was just around the time I got my first few kubs and it probably encouraged me to get more.  Here's a couple pics.

As my buddy 'I am Sith' will attest, I'm a bug procrastinator when it comes to actually putting my Kubricks in my display. When DX3 arrived this week, I still needed to find room for DX2 and my Harry Potter ones.  However, I had some time this evening so I went to work. The problem is, I've run out of space!!!  So I had to make some cuts. Sadly the Lost figures were removed. I also took out Collossus so I'm down to 8 Superheroes. In looking at the DX waves, I'm thinking that I will leave the new R4 out of the display. I'm also probably going to leave floppy hat luke out to drive my land speeder. Finally Han and Chewie from DX2 might not make the cut either. I'm going to think about and finish up tomorrow. Hopefully I will get some pictures tomorrow too!

dremel highly recommended. I used some masking tape to mark a clean edge i wanted to follow. It also helped keep the height consistent. Used sandpaper to flatten out any edges.

Finding the right parts is the hardest part. for years I tried to make my own tactical display from lego and just never got the right look.

Pretty amazing collection Mike!  I would love to see a close up of those Marvel figs if you get a chance.  Still haven't made the effort to get any of these, but I'd like to snag Captain America and Iron Man among others at some point.  Do you ever get the itch to pop open your boxed Kubes?  I'm close to opening my Max Rebo Band once I find the right display for them.

When I first bought them, I opened the TRU sets and the 2007 Collector's Club set and had them in my display.  As I started filling up the JL cases with the Series figures, I had to put them back in the boxes.  If I had a lot more space, I would definitely take them out and display them (I would love to do a Jabba's palace diorama).

Got my hands on an unreleased prototype diorama from the DX2 days--the Hoth echo command center!

Haha, I jest of course. As you can probably tell from the sub-par artistry, I painted it myself. I had started awhile back and then put it on hold for awhile, but recently I got inspired to finally finish it. The pic is just a mock up of how it'll fold out once it's printed. Gonna head down to the print shop tomorrow and get it printed out and mounted. Here's a couple of close-ups:

Thanks guys!  I was really pushing to try and ape the Medicom style, which is deceptively simple and  really clean, elegant, Japanese-feeling. So in my eyes I fell a bit short of that mark, but I'm still happy with how it turned out, and it was a good learning experience. And now I'll have some more terrain to display my Hoth kubbies in front of.  :)

Sure! Let me see what the printers are going to charge me and how it turns out and then I'll get back to you. Hopefully they won't give me any flak about the Star Wars/Kubrick logos. The size of this is basically the same as the DX3 backdrop if you sliced off the Ronto's head on top.  My home printer can print at that size but the color inks it takes get pricey--I'll weigh that against what the print shop charges.

Count me in too, depending on the cost.  I haven't collected any of the other backgrounds to date because I don't usually display my Kubes that way, but I like this more every time I see it.  Thanks!

So for $20 the print shop made me a color print that looks great.  Was worried about the colors and brightness changing but it looks exactly like it does on my monitor, so that's a relief.  Unfortunately they couldn't mat it for me--they only mount prints on ultra-thick science fair diorama-type foam board. So over the weekend I'll try to find the right sized board and mount this myself, see how it turns out and let you guys know what I could get one to you for.

So I hit the art store for supplies and mounted my diorama print today--I'm actually really excited with how it turned out. The edges are crisp and it looks like it was printed directly on the board. The satin finish of the paper is a pretty good match for the real ones. The only major differences (production wise) are that the cardboard I used is just slightly thicker than Medicom's, and also the back of the diorama has watermark logos and there are scoring marks from the lines where it folds. They are slightly ragged but invisible from the front where it is just a clean fold.  Also the side flaps don't have the locking die-cut pieces, they're just flat.

To Iamsith, Jman and BrentS, and/or anyone else who'd like one, I'm thinking $40 would cover my print costs, supplies, labor etc. If you can't swing $40 let me know and we can probably work something out. I'll number them on the back to give them an artsy air.  ;D

I've been reworking my toyroom lately and searching for alternate ways in displaying my Kubricks. I found that those old Cinema Scene bases and backgrounds work pretty well for this scale - and they're a lot more economical than trying to get those DX displays.

The gas masks are all from the Cinema Scene/Saga Legends Chewbacca. It fits perfectly on the Kuby DX2 Chewie (it fits the regular ANH Chewie, too BTW) but are a little big for both Han and Hoth Leia. They sell the look though.  :P

My latest Kube obsession...

I'm trying to put together whatever Avengers I can find.  I have the Blue/Yellow Wolvie, which is a better fit, but I like his brown costume better.  I'm not a fan of the Iron Man 2 Iron Men, but Widow and War Machine fit in well with the others.  Might need to track down a Spiderman - I don't think there are any other Kube Avengers available.  Yet.   ;)

Have a spare set of X-Men if anyone is interested.  Have to check again, but I think I have Storm, Cyclops, Wolvie, and Colossus.

Haha, if I had a car i would. (Smug New Yorker here.)  Too heavy to carry home and would probably cost hundreds to ship. Next time I walk past it I'll see if I can take it apart somehow.  :)

That's a parking meter right behind it so I'd say its about 4 feet tall. That thing in the bottom right is the base piece.

Title: Re: Show me Your Kubes!

Went out to investigate it again on my coffee break. The first time I saw it it looked like each level had a flat tray with a little lip on the edge, but on closer inspection the levels are actually thin, deep slots, more suited to holding magazines or something I guess. Took some better pictures this time:

Photoshopped in C-3PO and the red lines to get an idea of the scale.

You can see that the clear actrlic panes would be in front of whatever you put in there. Behind them is a huge, one piece plastic "layer cake" with shelves about an inch thick. If it was just the white plastic layer cake with the acrylic panes removed, it might still make a good display, but since the shelves only come out an inch or so, not much breathing room. And it's all one piece so it's big and kinda heavy. Guess I was looking at it with rose colored glasses the first time.

Where in NYC is this? I might have to see this myself.

It's in Park Slope, Brooklyn. 4th Avenue and 16th St. It was there as of an hour ago. Somebody took the flat shelves that were on the ground in my first pic, though.

Title: Re: Show me Your Kubes!
Post by: JediJman on February 27, 2012, 05:01 PM
Pretty cool of you to offer that up.  When I first saw it I thought the plastic went over the top of each row.  So, like a layer cake, but entirely enclosed to keep out dust and such.  Still might make a cool display, but agree that it looks more suited to magazines or comics or something.  I'll pass, but thanks for sharing.  IT's interesting to think about different ways to display this stuff.  I am currently using JL cases, which obviously have no room for the Rebo Keyboard or the BAFs.

I've been using these nifty boxes to store my kubs. Found them on yahoo auctions. They were the perfect solution for me since I like to just display a handful at a time and store the rest. So far everybody fits (gamorrean is a little snug.) The boxes have plastic loops in the back for wall hanging. I've been looking for the seller's listing as I want to pick up a couple more...I'll post the link next time I see them for sale in case anyone else is interested.

Those are pretty cool.  Are those just plastic dividers in the box?  Almost looks like an Acrylic in there.  Do you display them in the boxes like that or just use it to store them.  Pretty cool.
Title: Re: Show me Your Kubes!
Post by: MikeT on February 29, 2012, 09:38 AM
It's a plastic tray that you can slide out (like an ice cube tray is the best way I can think to describe it), and then there's a thin sheet of plastic that you slide on top of that to keep everything covered and in place. I mainly just use them for storage, though sometimes I'll prop them up and display em for awhile. My only worry is if the materials are safe for preservation...

I forgot, Han in Carbonite doesn't fit, even angled.  :-\  If I could get this guy to make me a box with custom cutouts for the BAFS, speeder bikes, Han etc, I'd be all set.

You're right, Antilles has no business there. I don't have any other displays at the moment so I have to keep him in there since he's new.  :)   I shall add TIE Pilot and biker scout.

Not so much a "show me" post but I just saw that Funko has a line of 2-sided Paper craft displays and one of them is Bespin. I'm not sure how large they are but it might make for a great Kubrick display.

Edit: The figures are 4" so this could be pretty cool for Kubricks or LEGO figures.

Thanks for the news Jay. I love that death star scene for kubricks. Do you know what stores will carry these, or pricepoint?

I need to get some pics posted- I've been having some fun making kubrick dioramas. Is photobucket pretty easy to use?

I'm a big photobucket fan.  You just need to register and upload.  Then it gives you easy links for sharing in threads, email, direct link, etc.  I can upload them for you too if you like.

Less than $10 I think.

That looks really awesome!  Great looking display... the Hasbro and Kubrick pieces really seem to go together nicely!

Thanks guys, it's been a fun way to keep engaged with the SW kubes despite the lack of product. Here are a few other shots-

Props to Yak-face Jayson for the cool vinyl kubrick banner at the bottom of the cabinet! And Justin for feeding my addiction with Hammerhead to make the cantina more complete...

The background picture for the sandcrawler is Moab Utah, in Arches national park. We had some sand we had saved in a bottle from there, and I used some spray adhesive and put some on the display area to make it blend with the picture. It seems to be a good fit for the R2 capture canyon area.

Wow!!!!  Those scenes turned out great Dan.  The Tatooine one is my favorite - love how you blended the scenes together.  The Cantina is pretty slick too, especially with the Monster from the Black Lagoon snuck in there.   ;)  That cabinet display for the carded figs is pretty sweet.  Is that the case you were mentioning before?  I wonder how many loose Kubes I could fit in there?  Looks a lot more professional than My JL cases.  Thanks for sharing your awesome pics!

Yeah, I love the cameo of the Creature in there.  Also love the use of BaDs in there.  Awesome work!

I haven't looked at Kubricks for quite a long time, but I just wanted to say how awesome those dioramas are Dan.  The use of spray foam for the snow is genius.

These are all I have these days, but I'm hoping to add some more Imperials.

Dan - Where did that Bantha come from? Or who made that? I love it? (I'm fairly new to this.. so I may be asking something obvious)

The Bantha is a Hasbro item, that came out in about 1998 I believe. They did at least one re-release that I can think of- but it was probably 10 years ago at this point.
