The Vintage Collection / Re: 2023 Last Figure Standing Poll
« on: December 18, 2023, 12:33 PM »
The answer is so easy here - A Cantina Goons 4-pack.

Go with the same format that was used for the recent Jabba Goons 4-pack:
- Tonnika Sisters take the two "obscure human" slots (like Taym/Velkin)
- Momaw Nadon/Hammerhead takes the "redo" slot (like Tessek)
- Ponda Baba/Walrus Man takes the "repack" slot (like ReeYees)

Hasbro gets to run around boasting how they filled three top fan choices in one set, the 'finish the 96' get Hammerhead, the "give us new" folks get Tonnikas.  Everyone wins (except people who hate paying $80 for 4 figures if they don't want them all).

I’m happy to keep voting for the Tonnika Sisters to let Hasbro know I think that a 50 year old photo that says Star Whores isn’t a good enough reason to not make the figures.

Yeah, after 25 years of asking for them in the modern line, it's kind of mind boggling that the party line is still "LFL said no, no further comment".  Like Nick said, seems to be a really hard sell at LFL which is just so dumb at this point.

Watto's Junk Yard / Re: Tough Times at Hasbro

The more I read, the more it becomes clear that the biggest factor for Hasbro's struggles isn't the supply chain or trying to recover from a stimulus funded toy buying boom during COVID.  It's buying eOne for $4 billion in 2019 and then selling it in pieces a couple years later for $385 million (music business) and $500 million (movie/TV).

That ****** them over so hard.  They basically spent $3billion for the Peppa Pig and PJ Masks led "family brands" business (which is all they kept from eOne).  It set them back a TON of money in integration costs and then divestiture costs, all happening at the worst possible time with all of the other things happening in 2019-2023 - COVID supply chain issues, economic factors, etc.

I'm hoping that the recent price drops (DLX Jango down to $25, Retro TPM 6-pack down to $60) are a sign they realized they went too far with the price hikes and are trying to find a better balance.  We will see what impact that new "Epic Heroes" 3.75" line has on things too.  Will that be an outlet for things collectors want too or just 5POA aimed at kids?

Other Toy Lines / Re: 2020: What Are You Collecting?
« on: December 15, 2023, 09:37 AM »
TBS 6" - No longer buying or collecting these.  In the near future, I'll be selling most of the 6" stuff I have (mainly Han Solo figures and some other main characters).  I am only keeping 8 figures from ANH - Vader, Leia, R2-D2, C-3PO, Ben with Holo-Leia table, Luke with Landspeeder, Smuggler Han, and Chewie.

How did the Black Series purge go Jeff?

Pretty good.  I kept the eight figures I mentioned plus two more - the Amazon exclusive ESB carded Carbonite Han block and a SDCC Kenner Fett that I forgot I had.

I have R2-D2, C-3PO, Ben with Holo-Leia table, and Luke with Landspeeder set up on one small shelf.  Then Han/Chewie, Vader/Leia, and Fett/Block set up on another small shelf.

How did you guys do on selling your BS stuff?  I'm thinking of doing a giant purge of my collection if I can mostly get my money back.  Not sure if yours was sealed or open, but my 6" stuff is all open.

I had every BS6" Han Solo figure, six from the ST (TFA Han, TFA Chewie, TFA Leia, TLJ Luke, TLJ Rey, TLJ Kylo), and a few other random figures either from Hasbro or from buying a set to get the Han figure or a Chewie to go with a Han  (Mando, Child, Hoth Leia, SOLO Chewie).  Everything was open/loose.

A few rarer older things went for good money (Hoth Han + TaunTaun, Stormtrooper Han).  The other older OT figures sold for pretty close to retail ($20) and the more recent OT figures all sold for $10-15 each depending how recent/available they still were at retail.

I have a small pile left that won't even sell for $5 each at the local Toy Posse show - and it's pretty much what you would expect to be the duds: TFA Han, TFA Chewie, TFA Leia, TLJ Luke, TLJ Rey, TLJ Kylo, SOLO Han, SOLO Chewie.  I'll likely try one more time to sell them at a Toy Posse show next spring, but guessing they will eventually just end up in a donation bin someplace next summer.

Huh.  Yesterday came and went and I didn't end up pre-ordering Jango.  Part of it was waiting to see if Amazon would list him (so I could use points), but part of it is just being tired pre-ordering these DLX figures and seeing them hit 30-45% off eventually.

I guess I decided I'm cool waiting this one out.  And also waiting to see what sort of double-dipping they are planning (Kamino backpack version, poncho version, pilot version, etc).

I think a better companion in this pack would be the C-3P0 body with battle droid head instead of the Super Battle Droid.

They should have tossed in a swappable regular Battle Droid head so that you can use it as an army builder pack if you wanted.  Seems like a wasted opportunity that they didn't (or just how bad their cost controls are these days if they can't spare the extra $ for a second BD head).

I don't need more Jango Fett's

For $28, we should be getting BOTH jetpacks and the pilot headset to make this an ultimate Jango.

Instead, we'll get this for $28 and then at least one other $17 TVC carded Kamino Jango with the other jetpack along with however other many repaints they find a way to do.   :-\

(edit: the press release says $25 but I'm still assuming these will turn up at $28 until I see otherwise...)

When these were originally announced, Hasbro said they were a Target exclusive, but now it looks like a 6-pack box set and no mention of Target here in the story. Curious...

Hmmm... McFarlane Toys and Hasbro sign multi-brand licensing agreement.

Putting this in here because this seems to be happening more and more where Hasbro farms it's own IP out to other people for the figures/toys.  They did it with Funko stuff, and then with Super7 to do TF and GI Joe ReAction figures (and Super 7 will soon be doing 3.75" o-ring figures too).  Now they are doing something here with McFarlane and comics/page puncher stuff rather than try to do their own comic-pack type things.

I wonder if this is all part of the new strategy related to the layoffs.  Farm out the IP to let the other guys design and develop things targeted to kids or collectors and that puts less development time/cost on Hasbro, but they still get a piece of the action from the licensing.  Hasbro can focus on the core business of transforming robots and 6" Classified stuff and let the other guys chase the other lines/sizes.

The Vintage Collection / Re: 4” Epic Hero Series Figure Line
« on: December 11, 2023, 01:36 PM »
Have we heard if these are getting picked up by major retail (Target, Walmart)?

Jayson has some DPCI info in his mega-rumor list, so it seems these should be at retail to some degree.

My hopes for the Epic Heroes line lie with the potential for vehicles.  So let's wait and see what develops.

I'm hoping that we can finally get like a basic Blurrg or that wolf thing from Ahsoka or other things beyond just vehicles too with this new line.
