Sounds like we may not be getting a dias for Jabba according to Yak's qna. :-\ At least Oola is new though...It will be interesting to see what this is priced at, but I would have paid a decent amount of change for an updated throne/dias.
Q2) Rumors are swirling of a new Oola being offered as a pack in for the new Jabba the Hutt battle pack, I for one surely welcome the idea. Hypothetically, if that is the case, would/could she be in a reclining sculpt similar to the recent Slave Leia or do you plan on offering a fully ambulatory sculpt? If not, what if you had a the reclining version as the battle pack pack-in and then offered a fully articulated one in the basic "Vintage" line later down the road as you'd already have a completed sculpt for the head, arms and torso? Also regarding the Jabba Battle Pack, would it be out of the question to throw in one or two of those court denizens from the 2004 Ultra/Deluxe Saga pack namely Bubo and/or Wol Cabasshitte? Jabba needs his buddies!
A2: You are right in that a new Oola is coming with Jabba. However, this was an expensive pack for us to produce so we concentrated on a new nicely articulated Oola, but no secondary sculpts or other accessories could be put in. We know you'll enjoy the end result - we think it's fantastic and well worth the wait.

I'm not sure I read it that way. I think when they said secondary sculpts or accessories they might have been referring to my inquiry about the extra court denizens. I would consider the dais a primary accessory in this case. But who knows, I've been wrong before. :-X
-
Yeah, I read it like Jayson - I think that statement was Hasbro's way of squishing the one-time rumors that a Jawa and/or fan are also coming in the pack.
The dais/throne better be in there... if they are already talking "expensive pack" and it's only Jabba and Oola? Man, would there be some serious hating going on in the forums. :P
-
No Dais = EPIC FAIL ::) :P
-
Agreed, I didn't necessarilly read it as no Dais, but you never know anymore. Cost-cutting is rampant, and at times pretty major/negative.
-
I believe they were referring to stuff like the Jawa, Fan, Pillow, spit, Oola lower sitting body etc.
Hasbro has already proved they can deliver a Jabba & a SA figure for $20-$25 in a Battle pack. When they refer to "expensive" I honestly feel it's a safe bet the dias is counted in that comment. The dias with all the details is probably $20 on it's own.
-
It is hard to read from that answer, but I sure hope that we're getting a dais as well. I mean, I have my vintage one, but an upgrade sure would be spiffy - and I think a lot of people would be ready to buy even if it was a bit pricier (within limits).
-
Hum perhaps it would be a super articulated Jabba, with a detailed paintjob with shades of green yellow, and a chain like the vintage set to pull Oola or Leia. I wonder if the trhone would have wheels for the motion it had on the movie.
-
Great to get more info on this item, even if we need some clarification.
This is an item I have been waiting patiently to get more details on. I have the '99 Jabba Glob version but skimped out on the '04 revamp of that mold. Jabba's Palace is the only shelf display I haven't made yet, waiting for the good Jabba Hasbro has been talking about getting out there for what must be years now.
As for the dais, I really hope they are including it (as I said, I need that piece for my shelf and either I have to scratch build one or make the rest of the shelf around the dimensions Hasbro settles upon) but if this is now for sure a standard battle pack I find it unlikely. The Clone Wars Jabba was an all-new sculpt with a completely rehashed figure and a completely rehashed accessory. For sure we are getting a brand-new Jabba and a brand-new figure (unless they can somehow rehash parts from the Slave Leia?) I don't see how they could put in a dais that is anything substantial...maybe it will wind up being a flimsy piece of packaging plastic a la the Lars Homestead base or Sarlaac Pit extension? That would stink, but I'd take it over nothing at all.
I thought they had talked about putting out a Jabba with Dais pack as an exclusive if they found the right place for it...my gut says if this is a standard Battle Pack then the dais has been costed out of the equation.
-

I consider Jabba and his dias to be the most overlooked character / piece / set of the last 15 years.
They need to do it justice, and I'd pay handsomely if they get it right. I mean, let's take a quick walk down memory lane...

If there's one big, major, important character that needs to be done right, this is it.
-
I agree, but the Jabba Glob does a decent job in my diorama.
-
I'd like to see Jabba come with a new throne as much as anyone else. But if it's a choice between a new Jabba without a throne VS no Jabba at all? I go for the new Jabba in a heartbeat. And a new pack-in Oola is a pretty cool news, too.
The vintage Jabba's throne is a very good stand-in. It would be sweet if Hasbro still had the Kenner tool for that and could update it for a modern release. And even sweeter if they could make a new throne. But if you don't have the vintage throne? You can find a loose Jabba & throne for between $25 and $30. That's the throne I use in my diorama.
-
I just can't get myself to find a 27 year old throne to be a reasonable stand-in for anything. Nor can I get myself to get behind the idea that they can just pretty-up that 27 year old throne and have something that is anywhere near the quality level of the work they do now.
-
I think it would be a really lame pack if it's just Oola and Jabba with no dais. I guess they could put in a carbboard dais but man that would truly piss off the majority. They need to add the dais to make it worthwhile in my opinion. If not then yet again vintage Jabba crushes the modern releases.
-
This is the dais I made a few years back, which will hold me over I think, even if they make one. I'll buy it anyway for the Jabba and Oola though!

The vintage one is certainly a helluva lot better than the cardboard one that came out in the POTF2 pop-up Jabba's palace. Otherwise, what are the alternatives? There's vintage, then cardboard, then custom, and then nothing.
Daigo-Bah's work is amazing, but not exactly available on a mass scale. Although you could start up a booming little cottage industry making Jabba's thrones...provided Uncle George doesn't slap you with a cease and desist order! ;D
-
Why not just make this set a Deluxe Battlepack a la the Target exclusives with the AT-ST's? They should be able to throw in a few pillows and a jawa with a fan (c'mon, just repack a jawa with a new accessory). Then they are at the $50 price point and could put in a few extras for us.
-
I wasn't sure how to read Hasbro's answer on the Oola question either when it comes to the accessories comment. Unfortunately, we dissect every answer Hasbro gives us and any ambiguity leads to days worth of speculation.
When I read that answer the first time the first thought that popped into my head was "there goes the dais" as well as possibly anything else like his pipe and food bowl. But after reading it again, I think (maybe it's wishful thinking) that Hasbro may have just been addressing the extra accessories in the context of the question asked; no swapable legs for Oola, no Jabba denizens, etc.
However, has Hasbro actually confirmed the dais or was that always one of those "if we can afford it" type of prospects?
Edit -> On February 3rd, Jedi Insider asked for details about Jabba and Hasbro had this response: "We can confirm that there is a new Jabba and Dais coming this Fall, and that it will have a pack-in figure."
So I'm thinking that maybe the dais is still in, and the answer on this question may have been within the context of the question about those specific accessories. Hopefully. If they drop the dais we may have a problem.
E...
-
Yeah, Hasbro's wording on that answer was difficult to decipher. Reminded me of an SAT question.
-

The alternative is the hypothetical one that Hasbro is working on right now. I'm not saying that the other ones suck and we should all make our own. I'm making the case that a new one is something Hasbro would be able to sell quite handily and that it would be pretty easy for them to improve on the old ones in a pretty substantial way.
-
I totally hear you on that Rob. This is an instance where it looks like Hasbro may be cutting corners in order to get something out to market. I definitely want to see a new throne.
But the way Hasbro answered this particular question? They did that VERY carefully. And to me it looks like Hasbro *MAY* be setting us up for the disappointment that while we're getting a new Jabba, the throne may have been too expensive of an accessory to fit in a Battle Pack that might even go for $30.
-
I would hope someone asks about that in the next qna (if it's not too late) They've already confirmed the new Jabba and Oola, so would they really want to keep the throne/dias a secret? maybe...maybe not.
-
I love the blow job Jabba from EP1. That one definitely belongs in the hall of shame.
Agreed with Rob. I painted and added other details to the classic dais, it actually does looks good as the sculpt was very well done back in the day. However I do want a modern one as the level of sculpting is on a new level. I am currently building a new palace shelf display and I am anticipating this to be a little bigger already compensating for so it better be there:
Current display (Second shelf, sorry it's small):
Work in progress (yes am so excited for this item as display and I am showing off):
FYI - I am not building this to be 100% accurate in the layout of the Palace but want a very detailed environment to compliment my collection and one of my favorite locations of the trilogy.
-
I would hope someone asks about that in the next qna (if it's not too late) They've already confirmed the new Jabba and Oola, so would they really want to keep the throne/dias a secret? maybe...maybe not.
Back in Feb. 2010, JediInsider's QnA (http://jediinsider.com/index.php?catid=8&itemid=12542) revealed that the Jabba, Dais and a pack-in figure were in the works for this set. Hopefully those plans pan out.
Hasbro: We can confirm that there is a new Jabba and Dais coming this Fall, and that it will have a pack-in figure. Beyond that, we do not have more details.
-
Nice work JACK! Is the black material foamcore?
-
Oopps...Saw that post up there from E. Guess I'm still hoping we get the dias...and a throne. :)
-
This is one of the few aspects of the vintage era that has yet to be improved upon by the modern line - Rob's photo selections prove that. Here's hoping they go all out. It's been a long time....
-
Nice work JACK! Is the black material foamcore?
Thanks, got a ways to go. Yes on the foam core. I am going to coat it in plaster after some more structure details are added. I will place shots in the custom section once it's done in 2-3 weeks. I made the dais section wider to accommodate this (hopefully) new one.
-
I don't see how Hasbro can't do the throne, yet one hasn't been done in 27 years. I'll certainly be in the annoyed camp if one isn't done.
-
If we dont get a dias then there really is no point to this.
-
This is at the top of my wanted list - cannot wait for this one. Has it been stated yet the price or the retailer that is going to be selling it?

You wont see this unitl SDCC. (You may see some leaks before hand)
Nice work JACK! Is the black material foamcore?
This is still work in progress as I have a lot still to add (More paint detail, lights and other details) but look for a new thread with this in the custom section soon:
I tried to leave some breathing room for the new dais in case it's bigger than the vintage.
-
Nice to see the vintage Sy Snootles in there :)
-
Nice to see the vintage Sy Snootles in there :)
That's the REAL Sy Snootles! I hope Hasbro makes an updated version of her one gay. I hate the looney toon version. It would be nice if they brought her back for the upcoming blue ray version. Doubtful, they will probably make that scene more cringe inducing.....
I hope we see some leaks of this Jabba set soon......
-
I CANNOT wait for this set!! I am pleasanly pleased that Oola will make it, and that Jabba is finally getting love, but I'm disappointed that - 1. It'll be an exclusive rather than a general release, and 2. that the price point will most likely be high. I doubt it'll be part of the BPs assortment, meaning that it might be more expensive as an exclusive, but I do hope that it comes in special Vintage Collection packaging,
-
I think Oola is fine the way she is. What we need is a new version of Bib Fortuna. I hate the pull over smock.
-
We did get a new one in the TSC line (http://www.yakface.com/TGuide2004/html/tsc/003.html). ;)
-
We did get a new one in the OTC line (http://www.yakface.com/TGuide2004/html/tsc/003.html). ;)
Beat me to it... not only was a there a new one, but it was really pretty well done.
-
I hate to say it but I think that looks like...well not very good either. I use the vintage one instead for display. I would be all for a new one.
-
I agree. I think that one equally sucks. How about some cloth and a better looking expression? The OTC one could barely move.
-
Wait, wait...OTC or Saga2? I could've sworn that the OTC one was a repaint of the POTF2 one, and the new sculpt was from the first Saga2 wave..?
Either way, yeah, a neo-vintage resculpt would be very appreciated...especially if they gave him a vintage-y coat, one of the best cloth robes from back then IMO. I have never been able to get the "new sculpt" to stand on his own.
-

Brainfart: I said OTC, but linked to the Saga2 one. :P

There's a boxed picture of this bad boy over on sandtroopers.com.
-
It also appears to be a WalMart exclusive - I hadn't been aware of that before.
I'm glad they didn't go with an easily damaged window box for Jabba, the only product you can see is the Oola figure - and it looks fantastic.
-
Oola looks great! I really want to see the product it's hard to tell from the package as they have what appears to be a a painting. It looks like a Salacious Crumb might be in there too which would be awesome. I am almost done my dio as I mounted the Taun Taun head and am hooking up the lights this week. This picture motivates me to finish it!
I hope we start seeing more leaks soon!
-
The throne looks pretty beefy in the art. 8)

They must have a thing for Jabba and his goons. I kinda wish it was in a window type package, but then again - I never saw any of their previous dancer/musician packs that weren't damaged.
-
omg this is my most anticipated item to see and I am at work and it is blocked - put this pic on JD for me please!!! ;D ;D ;D

Hopefully the back of the box product image surfaces shortly.......
-
The artwork looks good/promising. I hope the actual product matches up well.
-
bah - thanks for the link Jayson - though I still can't see him (crappy internet blocking trying to force me into doing work) - oh well I can wait :)
edit: just saw a thumbnail size version of the pic at RS.com's main page - can't wait for the back pic!
-
The artwork looks good/promising. I hope the actual product matches up well.
Judging by the front panel art what is highlitghted hopefully is what is included: Jabba, Oola, Throne, Pillows, Hooka, Salacious. If that is the case this will beone of the best SW items ever! I am very excited about this one this one has been a long time coming! C'mon, where is the back of the box picture???
-
I have been waiting very long for this, i cant wait. I think i want 2.
-
I have been waiting very long for this, i cant wait. I think i want 2.
Yeah, this is one I will buy an extra one of as well to keep packaged. I hope Tungohri gets some of those Oolas in, that looks like an amazing figure!
-
That looks exceptional. I can't wait to see photos of the actual product.
-
Color me a little disappointed... looks like Jabba is just basically a statue with a pose-able tail. Yeah he looks good, but will he match the articulation of his Clone Wars counterpart from last year? I'll wait until we get better pictures to make a call.
-

He didn't exactly move much. Other than his arms, what articulation are you really looking for?
-
Hey, he moved a lot in TPM and ANH ;)
I dunno, I obviously want wrist, elbow and shoulder articulation, but I think they could also do some creative stuff with the eyes and mouth. I guess neck/waist articulation wouldn't matter on a ROTJ Jabba but I'm kind of an articulation snob at this point.
-
I'm still wondering what those locker/panel-looking things are on the side of the packaging. But the packaging/image is beautiful, and I'm fairly pleased with the Oola. And has Hasbro said that the dais will be included?
I really don't care if Salacious Crumb is not included, since we got him in 2007 w/ C-3PO. And I'm not happy at all that it's a strictly-Walmart release! There's no Walmart within a 1.5-hours radius from where I live! :(
-
If He comes with everything on the front of the box, it will exceed my expectations.
I'm confident that the sculpt will be good, but I'm still a little apprehensive about how the paint job will turn out.
-
If it comes what's shown on the front I will be really happy as well. I would not mind a really detailed Crumb.
I hope this throne is not too huge. I left a fair amount of buffer room in my custom display for it to hopefully accommodate this piece.
Here is my cheap plug as I started a thread for my Jabba Palace display:

-
What a welcome set! Kudos Hasbro.
-
I'm intrigued what all the figure will come with... Oola looks good from what you can see, but the toy's tough to tell on since the box is so photoshopped. Will he be articulated? Will it just be his tail? What's the deal with the dais? Those are all things I'm curious about before I go ga-ga for it, but I'm pretty pleased regardless...
To be honest though i'd have sacrified a new Oola for other stuff I think... I am pretty ok with Oola as she was. So basically what I mean is, if the Jabba figure or throne or anything suffered because of the Oola figure, I'd have ditched Oola I guess. So yeah, I'm hopeful nothing got cut from the set due to her.
Wonder what price will be?
-
I'm guessing in the $50-$60 range.
-

At least he won't have a Speederbike shooting out of his ass. ;D
I'm guessing in the $50-$60 range.
That's my guess as well, but I'm leaning more towards $50.
-
I'm hoping a little less than that, but $50 seems right. I'm hoping maybe closer to $40.
This is a fun game... If we had a giveaway right now it'd be interesting to make it a prize for whoever comest closest without going over. :P Rod Roddey (RIP) eat your heart out.
-
$43.96!
-
Even if it's pricey, at least I only need one. :P
-
I still have my '83-'84 era Jabba the Hutt with dias from back in the day. Better articualtion for Jabba, bendy tail, ball joins on arms and torso and better deco would be nice. Never had an Ooh-La fig; wonder if it'll come with a pop-out boob? ;)
-
Rod Roddey (RIP) eat your heart out.
Give the man some respect. It's "Roddy". Good lord, man.
I don't know that the Oola looks horribly different than the one we've had for years, and as JJ said, that one was pretty good to begin with. But yeah, excitement and stuff.
-
I hear what you're saying JACKOFTRADZE, I did the same thing with mine...
-
I was on Scum last night and I saw in the Jabba thread the guy that posted the first pic of the Jabba box posting that he was supposedly going to pick up a special package from the post office this morning - eluding to it being Jabba.
Perhaps we may see more pics today???
edit: turned out to be a load of hooey. the guy says he is getting it, but the package he was receiving today didn't wasn't his Jabba package. So supposedly he is still on is way to him.

Amazing! It makes me want to pull my pics of my backdrop display. I love how you actually made the playset and built it to adapt to a real Rancor Pitt when you get around to making it. Very impressive!

Wal-Mart Exclusive? Jabba + Dias + Oola minimum package contents? $65.99 - at the low end.

WOW!
Sandtroopers got the goods on this.:
http://www.sandtroopers.com/smf/index.php?topic=11691.msg259777#msg259777
This is just too awesome, they have finally nailed Jabba, his throne and even Oola in one shot. Hopefully Crumb will get a better paint job than the TAC version too!
-
Nice to see that Jabba is removable from the base :D Looks very nice. Not sure why it needs wheels, but I can't wait to pick this set up.
-

It needs wheels 'cause in ROTJ, when Luke and the pig guard fell through the trap door, the throne rolled forward so Jabba could get a good look at the carnage below.
-
That's a very, very nice looking set. Kudo's to Hasbro. I think I'll be very pleased with this purchase.
-
It needs wheels so it can almost run over Lando! (Watch closely.)
Yeah, this thing is awesome.
This isn't really a critique, but while I'm happpy with Oola, wouldn't this appeal to a larger audience (kids..) if the pack-in was Luke, or a Gammorean, or even Han with carbonite block?
Now that I'm a parent, I might look at that and think..."Do I really want my kid getting a slave girl figure who has a collar around her neck?" I consider myslef pretty liberal, but there are some questions I don't want to answer.
-

Plus, how else is he to get around Wal-Mart unless he has his hove-around?
I'm guessing this one's less aimed at kids (if at all) really, but a different pack-in would probably have made it more popular with kids. It seems very squarely aimed at the adult market though... kind of like the AT-ST that, besides the extra gun, seemed pretty much for adults between the price and the complexity and such. At least that's my impression.
I wonder if all the stuff comes off the dais? Is it solid or hollow underneath like the old one? Jabba looks fantastic, and sports a good number of arm joints it appears. Love the "brand" tattoo. I'm pretty pleased, and I think I'm going to move my current ROTJ Jabba to my Docking Bay 94 spot.
Oola wasn't high on my list of resculpts, but she does look really well done. A much better looking sculpt IMO.
-
Jabba looks awesome, so happy to finally get an updated throne.

I never noticed his tat in the movie...will have to watch for as well. Was Jabba a sailor at some point?
Was it ever determined if that gokoracing guy has a packaging sample or the packaging with the actual product inside?

I never noticed his tat in the movie...will have to watch for as well. Was Jabba a sailor at some point?

I'd say it's the complete deal considering Oola is packed in there. Plus, Spice teased that he was getting this shipped to him from gokoracing for the full reveal.
-
It's the small details (very much like Jabba's tat) that make me love to watch Star Wars over and over again. I was watching AOTC yesterday and noticed so many things that I didn't notice before in the Coruscant chase/Cantina sequences. It's very cool to discover all these things.
-
I never noticed his tat in the movie...will have to watch for as well. Was Jabba a sailor at some point?
Not only was it in the movie, the original Kenner toy had it in 1983. And Hasbro (and modern Kenner) forgot it pretty consistently in the modern line, despite also being featured prominently in things like the Shadows of the Empire comics.
(I complained to anyone who'd listen that the next Jabba needs the tattoo. I'm glad to see it, you probably guessed.)

Gee, I own that thing and never noticed. Not very observant, am I?

Now with loose pics at commentary (http://www.sandtroopers.com/sandwatch/2010_vintage/jabbas_throne/)

Mega awesome!
Count me in for two! I love how they got the eyes right. He is a little too green but they slammed this out of the park. It's good to know that the hooka is missing the creature he eats is missing, I will be sure to keep that before I ditch the Ultra version. I can also ditch my painted vintage throne.
I hope this is a summer exclusive and not a late fall one, I want this now!
-
How did Jabba get the tail wound? I know its there because Crumb is picking at it in the movie but how did it get there in the first place?
-

I wanna know the price. Because this, the Kit Fisto Jedi Starfighter, Kul Teska, Jodo Kast, and who knows what else all seem to be pretty close to ready-to-go...
-
I think we were guessing that not all that long ago... My bet is in the same price-range as the AT-ST. It's a sizable set when all is said and done, at least in this day and age.
Nice design on the toy... Pretty poseable looking, plus the no-show tail jointing is pretty slick. Kudos to Hasbro on that.
I think the color's surprisingly accurate, actually. If you see lighted shots of Jabba when filming isn't taken place, he's one green freak. Perhaps another Hoth-Han-ish coat debate? :)
I like that we're getting all the throw pillows. :) Color me odd for being into that junk, but I wasn't counting on getting all the crap he's laying on. That's pretty nifty.
-
That looks pretty awesome. Love the wheels on the bottom.
-

I still don't get the wheels. I get the Rancor thing, but wheels - on the toy? Is the new Jabba w/throne going to race a sandspeeder or Podracer or something?
-
It rolled in the movie (forward, over the Rancor Pit, so he could watch Luke getting eaten more closely). So the rolling feature's actually accurate.
-
I think it looks pretty good. I didn't really care one way or the other about the pillows, I plan on adding my own touches for that anyway. I was actually planning on customizing a vintage set into something like this until we got the announcement that a new Jabba was coming.
Over all, I think I like this set. I just don't think I'm going to like the price. And it's debatable if my WM store will ever stock it anyway.

-
It's more than I expected, so kudos to Hasbro for delivering a really detailed and comprehensive piece. I still kind of think the original Oola figure is nice for what it is (plus, it's the original) so I'm sort of meh on that, but the rest of it is gangbusters.
-
I'm pretty sure he's a lot greener than he looks, look at closeups of him and Leia for starters
One thing I never knew...his tail has a huge cut on it
(http://www.theforce.net/swtc/Pix/zs/sw2j/jtr22tail.jpg)
-
Nice surprise to see that the pillows are not molded to the base.
-
I think the whole set looks pretty great, and I'm definitely looking forward to it. Time to retire the Ultra Jabba on vintage dais that I've got going in the display right now. Hopefully this isn't too tough to find, since it is an exclusive. Between this and last year's Dewback/AT-ST combo, it really seems like WM is getting the lion's share of good exclusives the past couple years - with "all new" stuff instead of just repaints.
-
Nice surprise to see that the pillows are not molded to the base.
I don't really know why everyone was so worked up over this. I never thought it made any sense for them to be molded parts of the base because it complicated that sculpt and added paint apps, two things that could increase price. By having them as separtate pieces, produce them in the color they need to be and save the paint apps. It's less manpower and molds for them are rather basic, seems like it would be cheaper.
E...
-
Actually it's been my understanding that the separate molds for the pillows (or other extra pieces) would increase the costs E, over simple splotches of paint on details added to the dais itself. Not that paint aps don't cost money of course, but just that tooling for anything costs more generally. The mold toolings are almost always the highest initial costs though, even if they're simple. Extra pieces = extra moolah. So that's partially why I'm surprised they're coming at all. I figured we'd just get the dais like in the vintage days, and no pillows or whatnot. Nothing separate or sculpted on/painted on.
-
I'm actually surprised we're getting the pillows as well, I didn't expect them. It's just that once I saw them, I didn't really think that they were sculpted as part of the dais. Not so much here, but over on the otheR Site, people were about to boil over on the topic.
My thought was that separate pieces that don't have to be painted don't cost additional manpower to paint. They get molded, spit out and packaged. Plus it gives Hasbro the opportunity to throw them in with another set or action figure if they wanted. Probably I'm making the assumption that they are part of their own mold and don't have other parts of the dais with them.

One thing I never knew...his tail has a huge cut on it
(http://www.theforce.net/swtc/Pix/zs/sw2j/jtr22tail.jpg)
Is there any EU stories about the cut? It's probably because the foam skin got cut during set dressing and they had to cover it up as a wound.
-
That's another detail I've missed all these years. ::)
-
I was wondering what that nasty-looking thing on his tail was. I was tripping up for a while while looking at those pictures from Sandtroopers.com.
-
actually the tail cut IS a joint in the tail's design... I seem to recall it in a documentary it coming apart or something, and getting "touched up" as a wound of sorts.
I think there's no story going with it, but I like the thoughts that it's a scar from his younger days, or something like that. Like Capone's or Luccianno's on their face and whatnot. Just part of the job. ;D
Jabba's one of those guys that, when you see him in other things (Clone Wars 2008, EU, etc.) you almost sort of think he's got a cool background and maybe isn't 100% a ******bag like he is in ROTJ... Much like Boba I guess, or Jango. Douchebags in the movies, but their EU and backstory makes them much less black/white as characters.
Hell, Bounty Hunter made you almost root for Jango in the Arena then.
-
I may have misssd it in the discussion but is Oolaa a new sculpt or a re-pack? I'm def glad they are making Jabba but wouldn't it have made more sense to do him in 3 years for the 30th ann of RotJ? Nevertheless, glad they are making him.

She's new.

I'd love to know the size specs for the throne, vs. the vintage one. This set looks excellent though...I'm totally ready for this.

Sandtroopers neglected to do a side by side with the vinty version in their recent write up. Hopefully that will come soon?

Sweet! That will fit perfectly in my display!

Judging by this pic at JTA (http://www.jeditemplearchives.com/news/images2010b/images.php?image=25), it looks like this set will be $34.99.

WOW!!! Now that's a low price!
-
Nice! I was expecting an easy $40-$50.
-
Yeah, hell... for $35 I may buy 2 so I can replace SE Jabba with Han using this new one.
That's a great price really.
Every pic of Oola has her titty out, so someone should maybe fix that. :-X
-

C'mon, it's more like side boob.
-
It's very Janet Jackson-ish of her, that's all I'm sayin'. :)
-
But it's film accurate! :D
-
Gotta tip the hat there... She's struggling and a knocker is flopping out. Hasbro's getting a better eye for detail I guess.
-
This is the best part of the whole day to me...due out at the launch! $35!! I really can't wait
-
I agree, it's among the better things seen thus far this year. I'm really contemplating 2 now too... A mobile Jabba and a stationary ROTJ one. Hasbro knocked socks off with this. It's the AT-ST of the year to me in 2010, with the new Snowspeeder right with it.
-
Yeah, I'm thinking about getting a couple of these now too, with the lower (surprising) price. Looks like a great set, and I really hope - being a WM exclusive - that it isn't too tough to find. I had decent luck with last year's stuff, so hopefully this year will be ok too.
-
WM's always hit and miss near me. The Droid Factory sets were actually fairly scarce here, even at the inflated price. The AT-ST was common, as was the Dewback for the most part. I hope these are abundant. It's such a nice presentation, I really hope it gets its due with a good distribution.
-
That's kind of how things were here too. The Droid Factory sets basically hit once and not much after that, even at the $17 price. The AT-STs and Dewbacks hit here a little later than many, but hung around for a bit it seemed. Prior to last year though, we were real spotty with exclusives as well. Never saw things like the A-Wing at any of our local stores as far as I know.
-
That was a weird one. I saw AW's at 2 stores I viist, but not the other 4 or 5... Yet at the one, they got so many that it lingered for a long time.
-
That always happens with me too. I have 3 WM's near me, and there's always at least one that gets the exclusives and at least one that doesn't. Usually it's a 2:1 ratio with 2 of the 3 getting the exclusives. I think the A-Wing and the Max Rebo band sets were the only exclusives that none of the stores ever received. 2007 was weird for exclusive distribution.
-
Even though I now have x2 AT-ATs, x2 SS, x2 CC and all of the Vintage line already in hand I will now have to make some runs on 8/1 to Wal-Mart to pick this bad boy up. I will be buying 2 for sure. Like Scott this was the best surprise thus far!
-
Probably my favorite set from this fall, but still not big on Oola. For some reason I still like the Kenner version.
-
excited. ;D for jabba and his dais. Oola...whatever, I still prefer the original version of her.
-
I really don't expect this thing to hit on 08/01 especially since it's WM, but I want this now! ROTJ was the first SW flick I saw (in theatre) and I always loved this fat bastard. Glad he finally got a much needed upgrade after all these years. Hope to see him soon!
-
I'm actually hoping that he's on the planogram for the Star Wars section reset - so he actually will be there on day one...
But you're probably right iFett, he'll hit two or three weeks out.
-
A vintage box would have been cool for this. . .
-
A vintage box would have been cool for this. . .
I was just thinking the same thing. I think they should do vintage boxes for everything from now on.
-
I agree, this vintage packaging stuff looks amazing. I hope we see it continue, at least for the life of "The Vintage Collection" if nothing else. I'm wondering if we won't see another round of exclusive "repackages" next year, if this year's crop does well.
-
Jabba has turned up in west coast Walmarts
-
IL has also had sightings on this set. It should hit any day.
-
Truly shocking. I highly doubt I'll find him this weekend, but I guess I'll add WM to my list. Was sure this would be a month or so out.
-
fan-freaking-tastic - cant wait for this! most anticipated item!
-
That's good to know - I will start including WalMart in my trips...
-
I just picked up a case of Jabba's (2 per) using the UPC #. I called two stores, the second had it in stock and she pulled them for me. I drove to the store and picked them up. Piece of cake. So I can confirm my earlier post that these are in IL.
I will shoot some pics shortly, he is awesome!
-
I've never tried it before but do you have the UPC # handy? I'm not going balls out this weekend with the entire line, but I'd be happy just to have Jabba by my side, and to get the WM headache over with.
-
I've heard that Jabba has a very rubbery body, and that the inside is hollow - similar to the talking Yoda back in 2004. Is this true?

Yes.
-
A couple of quick review notes:
- While the body is rubbery he is great. Those that were bashing this are overreacting.
- The Ultra Jabbas tongue fits good. If you slightly snip the peg it really fits perfect!
- I am using the Ultra Hooka/Stand. The new one does not have the frog, does not open up and the stand is warped from the ties so it does not lay flat. Both of the ones I have have the same problem..
- I added the Saga Padme Chain for my Slave Leia.
- Crumb is a 100% repack with some better paint ops on the mouth. Those that reported some new tooling are dead wrong.
Enjoy!

I picked this up today in Northern Texas...the above pic illustrates the one issue I have with this whole set: the awful paint job for Jabba himself. That said, I did a nice brown wash over the 'skin' portion and it really helps the detail pop out without looking as bland. Hasbro put soo much detail into the set as a whole, its a pity that the paint apps suffered on the big lizard himself

Well, that saves me the trouble of PMing you that number if our Wal-Marts aren't recognizing it. What's w/ these UPCs?
-
No sure if this is related, but when I bought mine yesterday I first tried to scan it with the Upc bar code - it told me to 'see a service rep' or something, but when I went to check it out at the front, no problems.

Yes, it's how I obtained my set. But be sure to let them know it's the UPC number. They said the same thing when I called but I let them know to look under the UPC code, they usually look under the item number.
-
Hit up Walmart while i am back home in NJ, no luck.
-
Man...I can't wait to get this set. When is the official release date for this? Has anyone heard if it will be available online?
-
Yeah, I checked a couple of Wal-Marts this weekend, and no signs here yet. In fact, really no Star Wars at all at our closest store aside from some older Transformers.

REGARDING UPC
The box in the above photo shows a UPC of 5356950286.
I work at Walmart and usually just the ten numbers will give us a reading on our portable Gemini computer inventory units.
UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE
The 65356950285 number is the one that comes up as active in the Gemini system. But wierd thing, it shows up as being not on file locally, even though the main WalMart computer (Bentonville) shows it as active. This will most probably change from store to store as they start getting them in. Knowing Wally's screwed up distribution system, I say "GOOD LUCK" to my fellow hunters. The window of opportunity may be short in some areas and longer in others.
-
I work at Walmart and usually just the ten numbers will give us a reading on our portable Gemini computer inventory units.
So that's what they're called? Huh. I had no clue.
-
Based on the pics, I really prefer my custom dais over this one, and am about equally pleased with my repaint of the Saga Jabba compared to the sculpt of this one. That said, I think I only want the Oola. If anyone wants to sell one, let me know.
-
Man...I can't wait to get this set. When is the official release date for this?
The official release is the 6th, but I guess a fair number of Walmarts aren't waiting to put them out until then.
I just called my three local Walmarts in hopes of having them look up the item using the UPC code posted above. Two of them didn't have anyone answer in the toy department after about 5 minutes on hold, but I did talk to someone at the third. She said they didn't have any in stock, but there were two scheduled to arrive tonight (I didn't realize Walmart had such precise control over their stock). She said it would be put out tonight, but I'm not sure if that is actually the case given the street date on it. Does anybody know when the best time to go might be, if I did want to check tonight?

Honestly, I thought the same thing but there is just no comparison. The ultra Jabba has 4 fingers which is wrong, the sculpt is way dated and the old dais is still nice but the overall presentation of this blows away all previous Jabbas. Sure, there are a few paint details I would love to paint differently on the new Jabba but he is still so awesome. For $34.99 you cannot go wrong with this one.

He was quite debonaire in his own regard.

I've been asking the customer service reps to check in the "SMART" system.
Unfortunately, there is one way they go in and the UPC shows up as invalid, then there's another way, which I BELIEVE mimics the hand-held inventory guns and the UPC shows up no problem.
So far it's been hit or miss for me with regards to whether or not the UPC is even "valid" and the best excuse I've been getting is "well not all WalMarts carry the same products". ::)
-

Actually, this is pretty accurate. I have a Wal mart near my home that has a very small toy area, and has never stocked an exclusive. (BAD series, comic books, dewback, AT-ST, etc). I know I'm looking at a 1/2 hour drive there and home again to check any other store, so I'll wait til they are widespread before I make a trip.
-
Yes, that's true about WM... WM varies product by demographic information...
An "urban" store near me gets absolutely no exclusives, ever, and is much smaller in general and carries a pretty different load of product. There's no section for sewing for instance, whereas the stores in the very "rural" communities have still got fairly large craft/sewing areas, even if they're smaller stores.
THey're opening one here, inside a mall... It's the first I've ever heard of it, and it's something new I guess WM is going to look into more (There are only a couple actually inside malls right now). They're looking at large dept. store closings as an opening for them to anchor at a setting with already large foot traffic without building something new, plus they're looking to avoid the hastles they run into with building from the ground-up in well-developed regions. Very strange, especially for my area, but it's going to make one toy run more interesting that's for sure.
-
I got my Jabba this morning! :D
As I said above, I called around yesterday and asked about the UPC mentioned above, and one store said they should be getting them in that night. I went in this morning and there was nothing new in the Star Wars section, so I asked a woman in a nearby department if she could look it up for me. She was able to print off a shelf tag using her hand-held reader and tried to find it on the shelf, but that location only had pro wrestling toys. Apparently they will be relocating the SW section when they finally reset their toy aisles. In any case, she went to the back and got the two boxes that they had (one is for me, one is for someone I know in Japan).
I've written up a full review on my site (see below) so check it out for more pictures. I'm very impressed with this set. It's easily the best Jabba we've ever gotten (or ever will get, in all likelihood).
http://mightyjabba.wordpress.com/2010/08/04/hasbro-vintage-collection-jabbas-throne-set/
-
I agree that the Jabba set looks great and I'd like to add it my collection, I still have my vintage original one with the opening compartment. But my biggest question is why now? This is a RotJ figure and would have been the Big Surpise of 2013. Unless hasbro is gonna blow our minds and make a sail barge for him.
-
Another first rate product from Hasbro. Popped this set open yesterday and am very impressed. Oola could have done with hip joints and it looks like Jabba was to have articulated wrists at one point, but still, it's a 3 3/4" scale work of art.
-
I checked the three WMs we have in town this weekend for this bad boy, but came up empty. Our closest store hasn't reset at all yet, but the others seemed to have much of the other stuff out. Only one had a shelf tag for the set, priced at $38.44. Another store doesn't have the space for it (or the AT-AT), but did have the new figures out. One thing I've noticed, when compared to Target, that WM seems to have a larger area for CW - and then a few pegs for vintage, and Target is almost the other way around. Anyways, still no Jabba here, I'm hoping to shows up online so I don't have to keep visiting that "wretched hive" to find it ;).
-
No Jabba here, but they were in stock some places I visit... nobody would bring them out was all.
*shrugs*
-
Hit three different Walmarts today and finally saw the Jabba at the last location. $38.88 here looks like. They had a good number on the shelves. Oola is one butt-ugly sculpt IMO.
Great to see the local stores starting to catch up though...
-
I wish that were the case in my neck of the woods, I've been hitting five WalMarts every morning and so far nothing.
Good to hear that there are plenty on the shelves once they do indeed get him in. This is one of the exclusives I'm really excited about getting.
-
Hit another Walmart in the beginnings of a reset today, and they had a shelf tag (no product) for this item showing a $34.97 price point. WTF? You have to pay and extra $4 if you live across town? ::)
-
It appears that Jabba is now more than he is worth. (http://www.jeditemplearchives.com/content/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=6730/#details)
I kinda had a feeling that this was going to happen. But, like JTA points out, isn't this more Walmart's fault than Hasbro's? ::)
-
Any pricehike sucks, but $3's hardly worth going ape**** over either, on something most people were ecstatic to find out was $35-ish.
Will it keep creeping up? I don't know. Maybe it's at what it's at for good? This is 100% WM though... They set the prices. Hasbro set the minimum and WM is apparantly raising it. *shrugs* I don't see where anyone could possibly question this, unless Hasbro came out and said, "oh by the way, we made WM pay more for it".
-
I would say this is surprising, and believe me it does suck, but I did read an article the other day talking about how WM was raising prices on pretty much everything they sell... kind of explains the Clone Wars basic figs being the same price as the Vintage figures at $8. Whodathunk that TARGET would be the ones with the cheapest prices?
-

I honestly don't care either way as this is an item I have zero interest in purchasing, the thing that gets me is that I have seen displays for $38.88 and $34.97 at 2 different Walmarts less than 20 miles apart. I mean, they can't even be consistent with the pricing in the same zip code?
-
I'm not sure what the **** happened with WalMart on this but just listening to a random sample of Twin Cities Wally Worlds, about 2/3 of the stores are not even carrying this or the AT-AT. What really makes no sense to me is that there really is no rhyme or reason to it. Some small stores get them and some large stores haven't...it is also maddening to see what stores do and do not carry in general.
It absolutely amazes me that this ****hole is beating and exceeding Target's sales, because they have their heads shoved so far up their asses it isn't even funny

Not sure if anyone has looked at this angle, but has this price change been verified chain wide? I have not seen Jabba yet, but I have seen the shelf tags and even a planogram at WalMart. And those had the $34.97 price point.
Truth be told, other retailers have different pricing for some select stores. I've seen it at both Target and Toys R Us. And now it looks like this trend might be carrying forward with WalMart, too.
-
How about finding one today with a shelf tag of the $34 price to find it ring up at the $38 price at the register? That was my situation today.
-
I'm not sure what the **** happened with WalMart on this but just listening to a random sample of Twin Cities Wally Worlds, about 2/3 of the stores are not even carrying this or the AT-AT.
I'm with you on this Scott. We had a day off today, so I stopped by each of our 3 WMs in town. Only one had a spot for this (and the AT-AT), and they didn't have it in stock. Of course, that was the one that was furthest away that I rarely get to as well. Our local store was finally in the middle of re-setting (the aisle was set, but not much of the stuff was out yet), with no spot for Jabba or the AT-AT. I really hope that Jabba shows up online, I'm really looking forward to it.
-
I paid $38.88 for my Jabba... but at the same time I bought a new DCIH figure that rang up at the incorrect $3.50 clearance price (50% off), so I guess it all evened out in the end for me. :P
-
I went back to where I got my Jabbas nearly 10 days ago, and they were just finishing up putting out the new SW stuff. No more Jabbas (although the woman there said she thought they would get some in a couple of days). But they had increased the price to $38.88. Kind of lame that only a very small number of people were able to purchase them at the original price. It's still a reasonable price for what you get though.

I went to three more Wal Marts this weekend and didn't find any sign of it... no shelf tag, nothing.
Can this thing be bought online?
-
It's amazing how inconsistent WM is with their exclusives.
-
No, it's really not. This seems like a standard practice for them.
-
It may be that most stores will be getting it, but only some will be getting it as a regular item with a shelf tag in the Star Wars section. Others will get it as an end-cap item.
-
I've checked two of my three local WMs and I've only seen the "Thrown" at one of them for $38.88. I don't know why this thing is going to be so rare but it's a great item, so hopefully everyone who wants one can get one.
-
Still no Jabba around here. :-\

Ah, that's better... Finally found a Jabba actually on the shelf. Snapped it up for an extra, since I want to try my hand at a repaint. Too bad about the price increase though.
-
DAMN I WISH MY STORE LOOKED LIKE THAT!!!
DAMN!!!!!!

This has to be the most neat and orderly WalMart toy section I have EVER seen.
-
No joke, I have never seen a Wal-Mart that stocked or orderly before...
-
I think they probably had just done the reset either that day or the day before, so that's part of it. But it's not THAT different from what we usually get around here. Our stores are fairly nice.
-
Same as you icruise, that appears immediately after a reset to me, and that's about what ours look like when the resets are fresh. Then they go to a variety of different scenarios of orderliness similar to that all the way to a disaster area (especially at, obviously, Christmas). Some stores are worse than others though. Two I go to often are usually a mess for some reason. Just poor stock personnel i guess for the department in each store. The one I visit a lot is always really neat though, like that, and I love that store. It also seems to get the most stuff in for some reason.
-
The best (and most frustrating) thing about that picture is that if you look closely you can see they actually have the TCW Wave 2 figures on the pegs.
NINE freaking Walmarts here and they can't find a box of these between them to put out.
That's a beautiful picture though.

I hear you McMetal - I've been hitting seven local WalMarts daily and I have yet to see any of TCW Wave 2 and so far, I've only found ONE Jabba.
Two of the WalMarts haven't even done the reset yet.
-
Man, that's ten feet of Star Wars. Here we have about two.
-
WOW, am I jealous that store isn't nearby me...
My local Targets are showing signs that they are remembering something about a "Star Wars reset." Hmm.
-
My store finally reset, and I finally found this, and it's pretty great. Tough to say it's $40 great, but it's great I think, and I'm happy despite the price I guess. Jabba (like others mentioned) is smaller than I imagined, but still sizable. The dais is quite large, and really nicely decoed. The Pillows are great accessories, as is Salacious Crumb...
Oolah is sort of a waste though. She's a good figure, very articulated and the most elaborately sewn softgoods of any figure to-date just because there's so much to them. But I'd much rather have gotten just about any Jabba Denizen (new or redone) over Oolah. I'm just not that into the strippers getting good figures I guess.
I find it really odd they did her whole outfit in the mesh... The POTF2 figure is better looking aesthetically, but I'll retire her, or have Jabba toting her around on my Episode 1 Shelf maybe.
The Jabba figure indeed is very fleshy and fragile feeling. I'm hopeful that's not the case. I like him a lot, and really don't want to worry that he'll degrade over time. He's pretty slick, and his bendy tail isn't as bendy as I hoped, but it is still kick ass.
I'm slightly disappointed at one thing with the set, and that is the lack of the arm rest/hookah thing not firmly snapping into the dais in some way. I'd have liked that to be moresturdy, as it is easy to bump it out of place.
LOVE that it rolls. :) If you're doing a palace diorama, that's a great feature unto itself for having it roll around the rancor pit opening.
Cool set... $40's probably right where it is on the cusp of being too much, or being a good deal if it were slightly less. So I'm not disappointed. I even would consider a second one if I had another $40 in my pocket wasting some time, and put him in place of the SE Jabba from Docking Bay 94.
-
Since last weekend I've been to 7 different stores looking for this thing. All of them have reset, only one even had a shelf tag, and (naturally) none of had it in stock.
I really do despise Walmart.
-
Don't you also love how they have like 35 cash registers but only keep 10 on them open no matter how many are in line. Stupid Walmart!
-
I'm really hoping Walmart offers this online at some point.
-
Yeah, I'm in the same boat as many of you are. The majority of our local stores don't even have a space for this (or the AT-AT), and the one that does of course doesn't have any in stock (and it is of course the one furthest from home that we rarely visit). I'm hoping this shows up online as well, or I'll be asking for some help here from those who can actually find these. Maybe they will be more plentiful the closer we get to the holiday season (one can only hope), but yeah, WM continues to be sort of ridiculous with their exclusives. When you have something all-new, of a well known character, you would think it would be something you would want to be available for people to buy.
-
Against my better judgment I went looking for this again today. I went to 7 different Walmarts (ten total this weekend) and spent over 3 hours that I'll never get back. I didn't have much else going on and needed to be away from the house until the Cubs game was over anyway, but I still should have done something better with my time.
I'm done looking for this until it starts showing up in a more widespread manner.
Of those 7 new Walmarts today, only two had shelf tags for Jabba.
-
So where the hell is this thing I wonder? Stores either don't have space on the shelves or claim they can't order any. Only one WM near me put these out (I managed to snag one at an out of town store) and they only had one case, which had 2 Jabbas. So are these just sitting in the back of the store, in those huge distribution centers or did Hasbro only make like 1000 of these things?
-
Out WM's all appear to be getting to their resets now... at least every one that I've visited lately has. They're all also seemingly putting them out if they do the reset, though I have noticed one in particular that did a full reset (one of the first here to do so) that didn't have any out, so go figure. Possible they were and got sold too though, of course.
-
Every one of those ten stores I stopped at had reset. They all had plenty of vintage figures, legends, clone wars... new vehicles. Most had AT-AT's....
Only 3 had shelf space designated for Jabba, and of course, none had him in stock.
-

Quoted for truth.
None of my 3 Walmarts look anything remotely close to this. If you told me a hand grenade went off in the aisle at mine, I'd believe it.
-
Ben (inadvertent imitation) and I hit just about every Wally between Waterloo, Iowa and Chicago on our way to Comic Con and saw none of these. There were 2, count 'em 2, at the show, for $60. I bought a vintage version for $35. ;D
-
Found two of these today... and actually, all the Wal-Mart Star Wars sections are neat and tidy right now. My guess is because the Legends/Clone Wars may not be doing that well... I'm rarely seeing anyone thumbing through anything except vintage.. I wonder if the long lull in product caused some people to lose some interest?

I think it can also be attributed to the new vs. repack product mix. Nearly everything in the CW and SL (to some degree) have been available on the pegs for years now just in a different wrapper.
-
I agree - repacks, repacks, repacks.
Then there's also 2-3 waves of both CW and Legends being stocked right now, while vintage only has one wave.
Another factor could be the price - we were seeing these at $4.50 and $6.04 a pop at Wal-Mart and Target over the past 6 months. I would not be surprised to see a price drop on these two lines again before too long... and I don't feel Hasbro has learned much from the past year.
-
BTW... I guess that TRU is already sensing this; hence the BOGO sale this week that only applies to CW and Legends.
-
That surprised me, too. The CW/Legends lines have moved here, but not as briskly as before. Once we get to the start of Season 3, though, this will probably pick up. Vintage has been slow around here. Every figure is available somewhere, and I kind of wonder about how well it's doing.

Yeah, I've sort of been trying to keep track of that as well. Right now, pegs seem pretty full everywhere for the most part. The CW/Legends lines are pretty full here as well, but as mentioned, many of these have been out for awhile in other lines and there are a couple waves of each hitting at once (and lots of repacks). I will say though, even the new Clone Wars figures (like Aurra Sing, Pre Vizla, etc.) haven't been exceptionally tough to find. I even saw the new deluxe lines sit for awhile. Vintage is much the same (although not nearly as much of it is shipping it seems), as the pegs are far from empty - and most everyone is somewhat easy to find (aside from Fett).

I never bought Clone Wars figures until this summer, when they were $4.50 at WM and pegwarming everywhere. I'm not buying anymore at the inflated prices though, specifically the repacks. I do want some of the new figures like Pre Visla but I passed on him the only time I saw him. Just couldn't bring myself to pay $8.
-
Pre Vizla? That's really the name of a character?
Might as well have just named him Conceptan Artis.
-
I picked up Vizla just Sunday, but only because he was at TRU with Aurra Sing, and so I figured I'd get both for the BOGO deal. I don't buy animated stuff generally, but Visla could actually pass for realistic if it weren't for his goony headsculpt. I'm trying to find a passable realistic sculpt in my catalog now for a future headswap. He's a little slim, but still quite realistic. His cape thing is badass too.
Aurra Sing is damn near realistic. I'm actually retiring my POTJ figure in favor of her animated one, she's that good.
-
I did the same thing with surra sing. No sign of jabba here sadly
-
I was able to get Jabba yesterday, but am not too pleased with him.
Jabba - Really a letdown. I expected more for paying 40 bucks. He isn't that well made... the worst part is he doesn't even seem to sit flush on this dais... or is it the paint job that is the worse part? Either way, Hasbro should have this this out of the ballpark but they didn't... worth about $10 in my opinion.
Dais - Pretty good. I think they did about as good as can be expected, and the pillows are a great touch. They're too shiny though.. why is it that Hasbro can't make things like this look more dull/realistic? Nice sculpts, but too shiny. I'd say this is worth about $15.00.
Crumb - Mine has two left arms... and to add insult to injury, as soon as I touched them, they both broke off at the pegs.
Oola - Fantastic and the best part of the set. Really a top notch figure with amazing articulation. I hope they release her again on a basic card, but knowing Hasbro they won't. Worth the price of a basic figure, about $8.00 with Crumb.
Just my feelings overall. I almost think the Ultra Jabba from several years back is pretty comparable in terms of how this one looks in person. This one just has more articulation on the arms, and the tail is "somewhat" poseable. But it's certainly not all I think Hasbro advertised it to be.
I also feel the Clone Wars Jabba is better than this one. They did a better job painting that and the moveable mouth on that one is a very nice feature. This one really is not a step forward at all in IMHO... this should have been priced right around $30 I think.
I'm not upset that I bought this because I do like the dais and I love the Oola figure and the pillows. But our pal Jabba really isn't too exciting. I think Hasbro took some shortcuts here and I already hope they make another version down the road to make up for this.
-
I saw a comparison pic of the old 2004 Ultra Jabba next to this one, and maybe I was a bit too harsh in the comparison between the two. This one does look quite a bit better... but still, it doesn't seem like they went "all out" for it to me. Maybe I'll try my hand at repainting it.
-
Yeah, I think you're being way too hard on the new Jabba. I have them all, and the older figures aren't even in the same league. Maybe that says more about how crappy the earlier figures were than about how good this one is, but in any case this is by FAR the best Jabba Hasbro has made.
-
He also has the correct amount of fingers compared to the Ultra Jabba. For those not happy with the paint all Jabba needs is 1 coat of wash and he is perfect! Another must have in my opinion! Get him!
-
I liked the set a LOT, but I'll stay with you some on the value CHEWIE... I'm more to where I think it's a fair price, but not a "value", if that makes sense. I didn't walk away after spending $40+ thinking, "Wow, what a steal!", ya know? :)
I love the set though... I'm happy to have it, and not have waited to pay a possibly lower price on it. It's still a little expensive IMO.
On the pillows, I think they're just cast in their colors and to save $$$, hasbro simply didn't add a dullcoat or wash to them or anything. I can understand that. The Dais is neater than I anticipated actually, in terms of sculpting and the wheels and whatnot.
Jabba's tail is indeed limited in movement. More than it shows on the box too.
-
Yeah, for $30 I bet I wouldn't complain at all... that extra $8.88 though makes me feel that it's a bit overpriced for what you get... and I wish the tail was constructed better... I think the upper part (head/arms) is fine, but his body and tail are what I think could be better for the price.
Still though, it's a nice set and overall it's a great display piece.
-
Anyone know if this thing still shipping?
-
Anyone know if this thing still shipping?
I was sort of wondering this as well. It could be like last year's exclusives, where our stores didn't see the Dewback or AT-ST for awhile, and then we had them on the shelves well after Christmas. Or, it could be like the other WM exclusives where we either didn't see them at all (A-Wing), or saw them one time and then never again (Droid Factory II, WM Exclusive wave, etc.) I'm thinking about asking for help, if anyone happens to still have them in their area. It is something I really don't want to miss out on.
-
hit it!!!!!!!

Nice price of $34.97 and site to store? Good deal for those of you who haven't scored this set yet.
-
About time. I must have been to at least 10 WalMart stores over the past week or so and I have not seen Jabba ANYWHERE. Site to Store? Screw that. Deliver it to my house, WalMart. Because the way you handle exclusives SUCKS.
-
Fantastic, it's already out of stock online. >:(
-
I missed it of course. Back to searching.
-
::) What did they have like four for sale? I really hate Wal Mart.
-
::) What did they have like four for sale? I really hate Wal Mart.
Any why is this available only "in limited stores"?!?!?!
The closest WalMart to me according to the in-store search is over 30 miles away. Meanwhile, I have a WalMart that's less than 2 miles away, another that's 10 miles away and a third that's less than 20 miles away. Why couldn't one of those three damn stores have been one of the few "limited" stores?!?!
-
****!!! Out of stock. I really, really, really hate Walmart.
-
I still haven't seen a store that has a slot for this, much less the actual product. Nuts.
-
You know what REALLY stinks about this? It's that EVERY WalMart will have those p.o.s. DVD 2-packs with the episodes from the Malevolence episode arc from CW Season 1 - you know - the ones NO ONE wants!
-

It really is ridiculous. Thankfully I got my order in last night, but I'm not counting on ANYTHING until it arrives on my doorstep.
In all of my searching I've only seen shelf tags for Jabba in a handful of stores. And in those cases? It's hit or miss. The size of the store doesn't seem to be the determining factor when it comes to which stores have the shelf tags. I've been in some enormous WalMarts that didn't have the shelf tags.
Still, it's good to know that the WalMart online store is an option. Don't get me wrong: I LOATHE WalMart when it comes to their exclusives. They've had a horrendous track record with Star Wars exclusives dating back as far as I can remember. So this is what we can expect from the world's largest toy retailer? Uck.
-
I missed it as well, and I really hope it comes back in stock again soon. I don't get it with these exclusives either - particularly at Wal-Mart. At least when Target or TRU has an exclusive item, you know they will probably at least have it at some point. With WM, some stores get them, some don't. And, like in this case, the ones that do may only get a couple. We have one store in town that has a shelf tag for them, and it honestly couldn't be further away from our house. The two closer stores don't seem to be getting them (or the big AT-AT for that matter), so I'm hoping for WM.com to come through or help from someone else. It is too bad really, when they have a nice, all-new item like this that the majority of collectors are going to want - it is next to impossible to find. Like it was mentioned, you know they'll be covered in things like those CW 2 packs. In these past few years we've transitioned into getting store exclusives that are actually all-new product, instead of just repaints of previous ships or repackaging of previous figures into battle packs or something - but now that things are new, they don't put them in stores.
-

:-X
LOL, I admit being on the fence about these, but will probably pass. What's asinine to me is that they should have those things out right NOW, to capitalize on the show premier in 2 weeks, but nary a sign. They've been out in Canada for weeks now. WTF?
I have thankfully been off the hunt for most of the past 2 weeks, but may check around tonight a bit. I haven't seen jabba outside of the one store here a few weeks back. VERY hit or miss.
-
This is ridiculous.
-
If I find it, great, but the reality for me is that I've waited so long I just don't care. I have a vintage version and nothing will top that, so this $35 in my pocket.
-
This is ridiculous.
I agree. It is crazy that they wouldn't want something like this to be more readily available. It is a very nice exclusive that a lot of collectors would want, and I know that it has caused me to make a lot more trips to WM than I would have otherwise just to look for it. Who knows, maybe we'll see more of them as the holiday approaches, but the fact that it is at "limited stores" isn't going to help that much. I keep checking the WM site, and have posted in classifieds as well in case anyone happens to see a good supply in their area. Definitely an exclusive I don't want to miss out on. It seems like WM has been getting a lot of the neater exclusives the last few years, and they are really spotty on distribution (at least locally) with them.
-
After seeing so many AT-STs and Dewbacks hit clearance, I don't think it's any surprise if Wal-Mart was more conservative with how many Jabba sets they ordered from Hasbro. Hopefully we'll see more shipping though as we get closer to Christmas.
-
Funny how this works. I buy one or two SW items a year, and always seem to pick the wrong ones. . .
-

I would have loved to see the AT-ST and Dewback on clearance...I would have picked up a couple more of both of those things.
-
Actually around me as well, the Dewback and AT-ST did pretty well for the most part. I only saw them on clearance at the out-of-the-way WM's. One in particular had many of each and still have some of each. Another one had 2 AT-ST's on clearance.
Beyond that I never saw them get clearanced at the other 6 or 8 WM's I visit. The Dewback surprised me actually because I thought it was a tad overpriced.
-
Sucks for those of you guys out there that really wanted this set (and who wouldn't?). Glad I got mine when I did - but thankfully we have a network of collectors in my neighborhood. Hopefully more show up soonish. Oh ya....WM sucks supreme ass! >:(

More conservative? That seems like a bizarre notion with the price hike, but they did it before with Droid Factory wave two. I got my Jabba in store, but I'll definitely be keeping my eyes peeled for you guys in need.
-
I'm wagering more may be in the pipeline. These weren't due out till next month IIRC. It's a vendors option to order more of an exclusive too, if it does well, so maybe WM will jump at that if more aren't already set for the future? Either way, patience is a virtue in this hobby, so waiting things out may pay off for many.
-
At this point, I feel very lucky to have stumbled upon the only Jabba I have seen. No sign of replenishment at all.

I second that! I can't believe this is not in more hands.

Agreed, but what is weird when I got my case it was marked do not put on shelf before August 5th. That alone suggests it should have already been put out. It's covered up but you can see the orange "Do not" burst on the right hand side.

I've been doing that since he first showed up online last week, but it looks like I missed it again last night. It is obvious that a lot of people want this, why are they making it so limited (and difficult to find)? I really hope more of these show up as the holidays approach.
-
That does it, I have no interest in this but I'm buying 'em all up around here to clean up on eBay. This is just too good of an investment opportunity to pass up.
-
Uh, Really?
-
Good luck finding them, bro.

Great limit Jabba The Hutt but clearance the Dewback and AT-ST. Gotta love Wally World!

Yeah, you really do wonder how they got as big as they did. I don't see it lasting, however, they are so poorly run. Maybe that's the key, pay your employees like snot, expect little and watch the profits pile up.

I really don't think Wal-mart made it's fortune by selling action figures.
As for selling Jabba's on ebay, why not buy them all and send them to people here who still want them. A good deed and all.
-
Well....
40 miles out of my way and three "limited stores" WalMarts later, I just scored a Jabba for me and one for Captain Piet.
I'd love to say that I'll keep an eye out for other folks here but none of my local WalMarts made the "limited stores" list.

Yeah, we have one "limited store" within an hour's drive, and I hope to check it again this weekend. Other than that, I'm hoping for help or for them to show up online again for more than five minutes. The long trip looking for something that you won't find gets a bit old.

Neither do I, though it is the largest toy retailer in the world.
-
Uh, Really?
Oh, of course not. JOKING ;D
I haven't even seen this thing since it first hit weeks ago. I'm not wasting time or gas looking for something I don't even plan to keep. That's twisted.
-
Something JTA pointed out that's actually true is that on the SDCC/CV Hasbro slides, the Jabba set is listed for October 2010. We're in September. So maybe once October comes around, Jabba will be getting much larger runs compared to the limited releases we've been seeing so far.
-
^ That's what I'm hoping too. That these are just some early releases and he'll be more available next month.

I thought the place card for Jabba in their display said August release? Either way - hope you kids can score one in the coming months.
-
I'm wagering more may be in the pipeline. These weren't due out till next month IIRC. It's a vendors option to order more of an exclusive too, if it does well, so maybe WM will jump at that if more aren't already set for the future? Either way, patience is a virtue in this hobby, so waiting things out may pay off for many.

That's an excellent point. ;D

This weekend we were near the only Wal-Mart in the immediate area that is supposed to be carrying these, so we drove a little bit further to just check it out. Thankfully, there was one on the shelf there (and only one), so I grabbed it. Haven't gotten a chance to open it yet, but I'm very thankful that I was able to find one. Still hopeful they show up in greater numbers later though, so everyone who wants one can find one. I was originally thinking about getting two, just because of a couple different displays I have and the original $35ish price, but we'll see now. With them (currently) being so scarce, I don't want to be taking them away from those who haven't even found one yet (that is, if I ever saw them again too). Looks to be another nice update from the OT though, and something I hope we continue to see more of in the coming years (still hoping for an all-new Taun Taun).
-
I actually just got a shipping notice for that Jabba order. Surprise.

-
Not needing to go into any more Walmarts for the foreseeable future is reason enough to be that excited.
-
Don't stop.
I could use one.
-
Just got one at a WM in Plaistow, NH. Only my second attempt. I can't stand WM - very glad I don't have to set foot there again anytime soon.
Great toy - some wonky things, but the best version since the Vintage one by far (not that that's saying much).
-
Saw this tonight again, for the first time in a few weeks. Only one on the shelf and the box was slightly crushed in so I passed.
-
I picked this up at the weekend for £45.
-
Checked two Walmarts in New England this weekend...nuthin'. They even claim it's not available in stores and said they couldn't find anything within a 30 mile radius. **** Walmart.
-
Has there been any info from Hasbro about what the hell is up with the Walmart Jabba? Stores are telling me that it's not available in stores, and walmart.com is telling me it's not available online.
-
Hasbro's line is that it is Walmart's exclusive and they do what they want with it.
The long and short of it is that Walmart does not make an effort to make exclusives available at all stores. Some stores will carry certain exclusives, others will not. The website says it best -
(http://i2.walmartimages.com/i/if/item/flag_limitedstores.gif)
It's sort of a crap shoot. If you go to Walmart.com (http://www.walmart.com/ip/Star-Wars-Jabbas-Throne/14539594) and search your zip code, it will give you a list of the stores near you that were scheduled to get Jabba -
"We found X stores within 50 miles of [zip code]. Only stores that carry this product are shown below. (In-stock status is approximate and was last updated on DATE at TIME, E.T.) "
The only bad part is there is no way to tell what's happening at those stores. Only thing you can do is contact one of those "carry this product" stores and hope to god that you find the one employee who knows what they are doing (long odds, I know).
-
Yeah, I went to two of them this weekend, as I was in New England. There's no Walmarts around NYC, so I was trying to find Jabba while I had a car rented. Both places were on that list, but neither had it. And according to the workers there, it's not available anywhere that they could see. This Walmart exclusive bull**** is really pissing me off.
-
I still keep hoping more of these are on the way for some reason... It's not quite October and they weren't to be out at all till then for some odd reason. It's very odd though, how this was handled. I saw them at two stores and wish I'd bought two more now, just to help out. One store I know got cleared out by a local scalper because he gloated to me about it. :-\
-
Atually, there is one Wal-Mart close to NYC (Whit Plains) but it has been dry. No Jabba, not even Vinatge figures. The store is a wreck...
Ed, you going to NY ComicCon?
-
Back up!

Finally, I got one of these MF'ers
-
Wow, I was like a prophet on that one. :)
-
The finally added price tags for Jabba around here, but still no sign other than the one I found.
-
Thanks for everyone who PM'd me last night! I actually ordered one while I was out at dinner (man, I love smartphones). Got my confirmation email, now I play the waiting game. Can't wait to put this sucker into the Palace diorama!
-
Mine finally showed up a few days ago... I think it's pretty awesome.

Nice pic Rob - like how you have the two older Jabbas in the background. Still haven't had a chance to crack mine open yet..Not sure when I will, but I'm just happy to not have that pesky WM exclusive headache :) Anyone know how long he was in stock for last night? Not that I need another, but nice to know I suppose.

Nice pile of chubas Jabba's got there. I hung Gragra's chubas from the hookah. :D
-
Does anybody know when this comes out? ;D :'(
-
This shows up as "Availabilty Unknown" for my local stores and the 7 other stores around here. Nuts.
I'm not going to pull the trigger on this until I see it in person, but it looks like that decision is being made for me. HA! Nevertheless, my son and I are going to hit the stores on Saturday before heading to a birthday lunch.
Good luck out there!
Dave

Does anybody know when this comes out? ;D :'(
It's been out for a little while now. I got mine about 2 weeks ago. Only saw it once and only the one though. That kind of surprised me a little.
-
I found one of these today, fantastic piece, I'm very pleased with it. I can't wait to get a couple of the new Gammy Guard to flank this thing.

Yeah, sorry, I was making a joke at the expense of all of us who haven't had a whiff of this even though it hit many weeks ago.
-
Damn the world. Still no luck for me.

IN STOCK

Niiiice. ;D
-
Out of stock again but was FINALLY able to snag one.
-
I'm glad everyone seems to have been able to get one (either online or in stores). It really is a nice set.
-
SIGH!!!! Missed it again.
-
I figured out why none of you guys can find them: they're all in Canada. Seriously, I was at three Walmarts today and found no less than 20 of these at each store. $35 a pop plus another couple bucks rounds this up to nearly $40 CAD which is just under $40 USD. I'm temporarily undecided but will probably break down and grab one later this week.
-
Oh yeah, with six stores in our city that means there should be about 120 of these things around here. I'm not sure if all stores are getting them but there's usually no variability around here and all the stores got the AT-AT so this looks like a bargain in comparison.
-
HA! Too funny ;D Well not really for those of you that don't have Jabba. Guess that's WalMarts fine distribution system at work I guess. ::)
-
I was blown away to find 16 of them at the Walmart in Vernon (a city about a hour from my place). Weird that I can give a positive store find in Canada. ;)
-
More than 70 available now. Good luck!

Thanks for the update ook- finally crossed this off! ;D

Good! :D
-
I opened my Jabba tonight and am really impressed with the entire set. I'm not sure that I could find a drawback to anything about it. It is definitely a nice upgrade to the Saga version.
-
I have just about given up hope on getting this set. To bad as I would have bought it.
-
Just sitting around here. Put out 18 at my local Wally and there were 17 there this morning, a week later. I wonder if I can get this thing on clearance? Nah, probably not until after Christmas.
-
Canada is filthy with vile Hutt gangsters.
-
and Pemmican.
-
I'm not a fan of the way Wal Mart stores handle (or fail to handle) exclusives, but site to store is a pretty slick system. Just picked up my Jabba in a minty box- thanks to everyone who keeps posting when these show up on the site!
-
Holy crap, I just realized this thing is cheaper up here (before taxes) than you guys are paying. How'd that happen?
-
I know eh? Actually getting a Wal-Mart exclusive in Canada is pretty amazing, but to get it cheaper than the US? We're lucky if we get it for close to the same price and not some crazy mark up.
-
Saw these on the shelf for the first time.
-
I figured more of these were coming to retail back when those first batches hit... It's not been so bad now, especially with it popping up online routinely, but there's still not many in my area.
-
I just got mine with the site-to-store shipping. Of course, there were about 5 on the shelves...
-
It always pays to be patient when a new line starts. I figured these would be back. Now if it was towards the end of the Vintage line I would have been more concerned.
-
Got mine today with site-to-store, and I have to say, this is kind of a let down. I really appreciate Hasbro's effort and dedication to getting this we've been asking for out to us, but Jabba himself is a little too tiny and compared to the CW version they did last year, disappointing. The dias is great, and just right for my shelf. Oola is nice but I like my POTF2 one better (this one looks like someone is trying to net her). The paint apps and construction of Jabba (tiny rubber hollow body) disappoints.
-
I was thinking that Jabba looked a bit wee also. However, if you think about the Docking Bay 94 scene in the SE, Jabba and Han are eye to eye as they walk. In Jedi, he's on the dias all the time, so it's hard to see how tall he really is.
-
There's really good views of him in documentaries on the making of ROTJ, and he's actually not as large as people think. I think this is a case where the vintage figure sticks in your craw, kinda like Amanaman... You remember it that way so you want it that way. Amanaman is accurate in the modern line and gargantuanly tall in the vintage... Go figure? I don't know that Jabba's THAT small in ROTJ, but he's not as big as some of his past figures have been, that's for certain. The new one's much more accurate I believe.
-
The new one does appear to be short in the body though; vertically I mean.
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/File:BibFortuna_Jabba_Ep6.jpg
The height from floor to chin should be greater than the height from chin to head. Not the case here. I didn't really notice until it was pointed out to me; can't help but notice now. :-\ But I really like this figure none the less.
-
I think the scaling on this is pretty accurate, actually. You can see that Bib Fortuna isn't really standing next to Jabba, he's kind of got his leg up on the dias, but is standing on a lower step. In the movie, when he's whispering to Jabba, he has to kind of hunch over to get at his level.
-
Just noticed that Jabba is currently "in stock" at WM.com, for those still looking (as of 9:00 AM CST Saturday morning).
-
I saw 2 of these again in my travels yesterday, so it is definitely shipping again...

Yes, he is a little too short, in fact. That's why I stuffed him with some synthetic batting when I did my custom version (http://mightyjabba.wordpress.com/2010/09/22/repainted-hasbro-vintage-collection-jabba-and-throne/).

I finally found my Jabba today. There were 2 on the shelves, facing off to the side almost hiding.

This looks great! How did you get him back together after adding the batting? Did you get that inner armature part back in after filling him, or remove it completely?
-

I did remove the tail portion of the armature, since it was difficult to get it all the way back down the tail with the batting inside. This means that my customized one no longer has a "posable" tail, but I think I'll live... Otherwise, I left the armature in place. The skin is pretty strong and stretchy, so I just pulled it back on over everything.
-
FINALLY got my hands on one of these sets yesterday, after heading out of town and finding scads of them at the WMs in that city. It's great to have a decent Jabba for the collection, though mine ended up with wonky pupil paint apps. Bummer.
-
I saw tons of these this weekend. Seriously.
I'll say it again. I predicted more would ship, and more certainly have.
-
Well, with any luck they'll get clearanced and I can pick up a couple more...
-
while I would definitly want one, my reason for not getting one isn't really due to price but more to lack of extra money to spend on things I'd like to have vs paying bills etc.
-
Anyone regret missing out on Jabba? Now you've got a second chance - just $19 plus shipping at EE (http://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodinfo.asp?number=HS94727&id=HA-807301583) while supplies last!
-
That's an OUTSTANDING deal on that set... I thought the Bomber was good, but this is better.
-
What great timing. I just managed to pick up tVC Slave Leia tonight after never seeing the Legacy version in stores. I was thinking to myself that I really needed to go find the Jabba set. I log on to JD and there is the headline. :)
$26 including shipping. Great deal.
-
EE had LOADS of Jabba with throne at NYCC. I guess they took a significant position with this piece, and now they're looking to clear them out.
-
It'a a fun set for sure. The $40 at retail was a bit of a stretch but not bad for an exclusive. At $20 it's definately worth it. It's a nice center piece for all of your Jabba's Palace goons. I doubt I will ever be able to swing the entire Sideshow 12 inch set.
-
I finally bit the bullet on this set. $16.99 and free shipping from Amazon was too good to pass up. I guess patience does pay off. :D
-
Yeah, I got another set just for the heck of it. It was in pristine shape -- I imagine that the ones Entertainment Earth are selling are extra stock that was never even on store shelves.
-
Received this set today. Really nice and detailed....now I'm trying to incorporate the throne into my diorama.
I'm wondering if the cardboard throne of the diorama set can be flattened or removed without destroying the structural integrity of the rest of the set.
-
Cardboard throne is a 100% separate piece that can be removed... This fits into the space it leaves fairly well then.
-
Thanks Jesse. If you look at my collection pics, it's going to be a bit of a project for me to clear out all the figures to take it out.
Basically, everything is a project with Colin around! :D
-
Mine was a bit of a hastle too... I had figures falling everywhere, had to be on a stool to do it too since it's up a little high for me to just reach in easily. The domino effect took over teh palace.
-
Managed to get five minutes and make the switch. It's a definite improvement!
-
Picture needed.

Soooooo
Took my Jabba out and he’s def got the meat sweats going on his undercarriage now but only very slightly. He’s out of the shelf and on metal now chillin while I debate what I’ll do with him.
I decided to do research on Jabba knowing he now oozes and his ooze can melt plastics near it.
I have learned some interesting stuff about rubber and plastic, and that rubber can sometimes really not like plastic, especially if it has a plasticizer in its chemical make up that is common in toy manufacturing but which likes to eat other more rigid types of abs plastic. Basically it’s dissolving abs like MEK will do for plastic welding. Very interesting stuff.
How Hasbro could basically **** the bed on this is kind of mind boggling. It also is rather nasty off-gassing going on of the rubber portion of Jabba. I wish there was a resin cast lower body you could buy as a replacement and ditch the rubber skin.😕
This would make an interesting story I think since so many have had major damage from a Jabba. As it stands I’m just glad I got to mine before it damaged anything at all.
I may try sealing him and see how it pans out but I’m really worried to ever put him on anything at this point. Anything I care about anyway, like his said or the barge.😬
-
Just checked on my Jabba on throne the other day. I've had it in a storage bin with a bunch of other Jabba's palace themed figures, including some of the TVC Gamorreans and somewhat HTF guards. Jabba was sitting right on the throne. I didn't see any outward signs of melting. But he was sticking slightly to the throne. When I pulled him off there was no paint coming off of either the throne or Jabba. But it's very much cause for concern moving forward.
-
That tackiness is the beginnings of the process Nick. Might want to quarantine the poor guy like I did.
-
I’ve seen some guys on Facebook talking about spraying Jabba with a chemical sealer to prevent further melting. Has anyone here tried that?
