I didn't view that as a flame, hopefully Josh didn't, either.

No, I laughed...and actually, after reading it again, I did kind of set myself up for something there. I guess I got off light.  He could have insulted about a billion other things about me.  ;D

His way of looking at things comes off to me as a, "I don't care if anyone treats my friends like **** - so long as they don't treat me like ****" sort of way.

Not exactly.  I do care about all that stuff that happened 2 years ago, I just think that it could really be water under the bridge now if people wanted to let it go.

I'd go over this again, but I really wanted to drop the whole "Defense of RS" thing.  Everyone hates it here, very few people really want to hear it anyway (other than to say what I have to say is dumb) so that's why I'm saying I'll let it go.  I'm willing to just agree to disagree (even if I'm not planning on being vocal about it).

but I can't do much about the fact that doesn't see things as what I think they are.

Ultimately, neither can I.  If any of the banned folks here ever decide they want to make a case for going back, I'd be happy to back you up.  I don't think that'll ever happen, but if it ever does, I'm happy to throw my loyalty behind you when it matters.

As for joining the stone throwing, that's where I can't join up.

« on: August 5, 2006, 01:34 PM »
That is a really hard question.  I really enjoy the Sideshow line, Hasbro is where I started and some of the other things I collect on and off are definitely awesome (Koto comes to mind).  I think the answer is Gentle Giant as well, only because if I ever stopped collecting, I think I'd stop with all the toys first and end with the statues (which are most like art).

Wow.

Did that Smartypants1635 guy really just get suspended for defending himself after that "Cluepon", or was that a joke?

I don't think Josh is gonna quit here just because people don't like something he says.    Not like this has exactly been an ugly discussion either by any stretch...  I've seen Josh in worse things than what we've talked about here and it didn't phase his posting habits.

No, I was definitely not quitting coming around here...I just said that by popular demand, I'd try and shut up about the good things at RS from now on.  When a bitching topic comes up, I'll just shut up about it and let the flames continue on without a counterpoint.

Well I'd be hard to keep from standing there with my JediDefender.com staffer shirt on holding it up and dancing around like a numbnuts in the background

Now, if there were an image of you simply standing behind the camera with a JD shirt, not jumping around, but perhaps smiling and the occasional thumbs up (or Price is Right gesture towards your logo)...that, I would have found more funny.
 ;D

It's tomorrow......and lunch is over.

Yes....it is.  So the million dollar question is, what's the scoop?

I enjoy the Trek movies as much or more than most other movies, but oddly enough...I've never bought thing 1 related to Star Trek.

I have muppets, Simpsons, Halo, South Park and Robocop stuff sitting with my Star Wars crap, but not ONE representative of the Federation.  What's wrong with me?

Someone stole a Cookie Monster from my friend's desk and sent her a website that showed him on a webcam in realtime with "C is for cookie" playing in the background.

If this is a similar prank, that's cool....otherwise, it's really lame someone would take your Yoda.

Everyone can tell your  an RS cheerlreader, which is fine.

If that's really all you got out of that entire post trying to explain how I felt about the actual humor of the situation in question, I apologize...but you completely missed the point.

Here it is for the A.D.D generation:

Yes, I like Rebelscum, but that has nothing to do with why I think the "chant" thing was stupid.

Quote
People would quote one of Big Red's dramatic novels of a post just to say, "Sorry to hear about that!"

Annoying.

Agreed. I don't really understand the point of quoting the entire post if you're not even commenting on the content, but I guess one lonely sentence saying "I didn't read this" would be a little too honest.  ;D

(Waiting for the 1st one now)...

So any humor they found in something, they're also sure you won't see it through the same glasses.

I think that sums it up....  I think.

Yeah, you summed it up pretty well.  Like I said a few nights ago, I've got the point. I'm done defending RS in here. I get that my opinion is both in the minority and not really welcome. While I'm not going to jump on the hate bandwagon, I will refrain from trying to talk anyone into jumping off of it, since it's such an unpopular cause.

I do have one big issue with what you said.  You're assuming I'm being objective in my assessment of what's funny.  Your exact terms were "I'm looking at it through different glasses".  That's not the case.

I don't think chanting in the background of someone's video is stupid because I like Rebelscum.  I think chanting in the background of someone's video is stupid because that's what hicks do whenever there's a news camera around.  I don't think this little "prank" was any funnier than some dude getting behind the newscaster and saying "Woo, hi mom! Channel 5 sucks!" while she's trying to report the news.   With very few exceptions, that old gag just makes me feel sorry for the newscaster, and pity the idiot that thought it was cool to do that.

I also think that the kiddies who have gone over there in the past and created a post-padding ****storm with some fake accounts only to show up here an hour later and brag about it are stupid too.  It hasn't happened in awhile (thank God) but that was never funny to me when they went over there and destroyed Wuher's for a night, then came back here expecting a pat on the head for it.   The staff here handled it properly I thought.

Yes, I know humor is subjective, and maybe there's just a certain kind of humor I am just not amused by.  It doesn't matter where they originate from to me. When MattKatkadamn is over there telling Rob he's "not a man" and trying to bait him into getting banned or whatever, I just shake my head that he's sinking to that level.   I prefer my insults a little more cleverly crafted than just "you suck" or whatever.

Now, when I see one of Rob's awesome photoshop jobs, I laugh.
The entire "Jeff for fan club president" thing was hilarious.  That was so well thought out and put together that some people took it seriously for awhile. Great stuff.  I also thought it was cool that RS allowed people to pimp Jeff in Wuher's. That was classic.

Matt taking a picture at C3 with Phil was another incident I thought was really funny, simply because I don't think Mr. Wise had any idea who he was, even after Matt introduced himself to him.  It was was kind of funny to me that (at the time) Matt was a huge pain in his ass online but he still didn't register in real life.  Just proof that people can be really different people online.

And yes...I loved the Greg(g) and Bertha unveilings perpetrated by some of the fine detectives on this website.  Those were some of the classic moments in all of RS or JD history to me and it's still funny today that years later, they still both deny it.

My comments about the chanting in the video were just in general disbelief that someone actually thought that was funny.  I can understand why a lot of people here don't like RS, I even agree that those of you who were banned for bull**** reasons have more than enough reason to HATE the place.

All I'm saying is....there's a way to express that and then there's also a stupid way to display it.    Asking "election" questions of Dustin at Comic Con would have been an awesome way to get across what everyone was feeling in a funny way.  I thought that might have happened.   Chanting in the background of Mark's video is just kind of a childish way of "sticking to RS" without really accomplishing that.

This is all just my opinion and really doesn't have a lot to do with which website I like, it's just about what I personally find funny.  Fair enough?

That's because Kevin's wife can't act her way out of a paper bag.

Well, she was a reporter when he met her, not an actress.  If you're a director, known for making movies with your friends and your wife says "Hey, could you put me in the movie?", you kinda have to say yes, right?  :)

I don't frequent strip clubs, in fact I haven't been in close to ten years.  Last time I went was a bachelor party, and one of the other party goers who was a "regular" at the club chastised a friend and me for having bad "ettiquitte" for just sitting back and having a few drinks and watching from a distance.  I don't need to pay a woman a buck to act like she likes me.  It was laughable.

My friends and I tend to go whenever we go to Vegas, so I've been quite a few times.  The dollar bills don't really bother me, because if you're sitting in that front row and you have a buck, you'll get a little bit better show for that dollar.

However, when some stripper sits down next to you to start talking and the waitress comes around to say "Would you like to buy her a drink?", I never say yes.  They all drink for free, so when you buy them one.....it's just paying them to talk to you.  That's stupid, because if you're going to pay them, it's not to talk to you.

Generally when I go I like to sit back and watch the show, and it's actually fun to say "no" to a bunch of a pretty girls all night long.  I figure over the years, I've totally made up for high school.  ;)

I know whenever I get crappy service, I put down on the tip line one cent. The manager sees all credit card receipts and really notices someone got bad service when they only leave one cent as a tip.

I almost never do this, unless it's absolutely the server's fault.  If the food is late, but they told me why, etc, etc....I still tip.

The worst tip I ever left in my life was at one of the most expensive restaurants I've ever eaten at.  My friends and I went to the top of the Stratosphere in Vegas (we had a reservation) and weren't dressed to the nines.  They wanted to sit us by the inside, we had reserved a window table and wanted to wait for one.  They weren't busy at all, but our waitress clearly did not want to seat us on the outside table.

When they finally did....we waited forever for her to finally take our order, and when she did, we didn't see her again with coffee or water until dinner came.  She didn't have a lot of tables, she was just angry at us.  Between the three of us, we ordered 300 dollars worth of food, and she came back with the bill in the middle of dinner.  We said "We're going to want dessert too", and she disappeared after that.

We never saw her again, so the busboy had to take our order for dessert and bring our bill.  I tipped him separately, but I wrote on the check "Denny's tip for Denny's service" and left 5 bucks.

Rosario Dawson was outstanding in the film.

Yes she was. She really stood out in the film. It could be because she's the only real actor in the movie with a big part (usually, veteran actors get cameos in Kevin Smith movies), but I think it's what happens when you give that great dialog to someone who's a really experienced actor.  She was totally believeable as Becky, and I felt her relationship with Dante was much more genuine than the one Dante had with Emma.

I'm having lunch with Tommy (uscwannabe) tomorrow.  Does that count?

Just a casual (and presumably private) lunch though, and not an interview - unless Tommy would like it to become one...  I think it's safe to share this much though: The Fan Club asked him for his address a few days ago so they could send him his free shirt for getting at least three subscriptions

That is extremely interesting, yes.   You should bring a little tape recorder and at some point, ask him if he'll give an interview to put this whole thing to rest once and for all.

I can't wait to hear what he says.

If you stand back and read your comments here, you would have to admit you are sort of trolling for a reaction here.  You know there are a big contigent of fans who loath RS here so coming in here whipping the bee's nest is just not a cool thing to do.  You have made your feelings felt, so why keep coming in and whipping people into a lather and then disappearing back to RS only to return and repeat?

I don't know, that's a pretty good question.

I don't mean for anything I say to be trolling.  I mean, my posts are on topic and honest...sometimes they're just a counterpoint that's not that popular.  I'd like to think of myself more as a peacemaker than a troll, but the problem is, my statements of "they aren't that bad" or "isn't this hatred a little silly?" are usually met with responses of "they are the spawn of the Satan and you're an idiot if you don't agree with me."

Being the one guy in the middle of an angry mob throwing stones saying "Hey, why are we throwing stones again?" is probably kind of stupid.

It's a losing battle and like I said last night, I'm going to knock it off.

Josh,

Did you read the stuff you wrote in the FC President thread?  Oh wait, the quote above says you won't defend something a site YOU think is stupid...but you will if just about everyone here does

I never said I didn't think the fan club results weren't fishy. Dustin was being beaten by over 100 votes last time I checked and he won.

I still want to know what happened just as much as any of you guys do.  And yes, I thought all the spam during the campaign was annoying.

Where's that interview or inside info you guys were hinting at?  I want to read it and see the truth everyone else seems to hint that they know.
