That picture was taken at my friend's house in Maryland -- they had it imported from Canada. :P  We had to get ready there - even though I was over 21 - my father would have never let us leave the house looking like that. ;)

I ordered the 'Planet of the Apes Legacy' box set today, from Amazon - $30. I know it's been out for a while, but I've only now gotten around to buying it. It includes all of the Apes movies (except for the Tim Burton one - but that can be found at Wal-Mart for $5), plus a 'Making Of' special... I already had the first Planet of the Apes DVD, but it was the pre-35th version... so that's an upgrade. All of the films are digitally remastered, or whatever - plus Battle of the Planet of the Apes is the (until now) super rare extended cut edition (so that I can pretend it's astoundingly better with 10 minutes more footage).

The only bummer is that it'll probably be February before I get it in the mail. Amazon ships slow-as-hell to me, for some reason.

Thank you for reminding me about the POTA set. I was able to get it used at a local DVD place for $25.00. There's also a set with a mock up Ape head which is quite scary. And not really worth the $100+ dollars for it IMO.

Post by: Angry Ewok on January 5, 2007, 10:22 AM
Well, it would have been nice to buy that huge Planet of the Apes set, because it included alot of bonus behind the scenes material that appeared interesting, plus  the TV series and Animated Shows (which are both available individually)... but the ape head thing looks totally stupid. They could have gotten rid of that ugly thing, dropped the price point down from $100 - and I may have been interested.

DVD's on my "will eventually buy" Wish-List...

Kingdom of Heaven
Casino Royale (2006)
Dr. Strangelove

Cheers!

Picked up Flags of Our Fathers, Running with Scissors, The Science of Sleep, and Shinobi today.

Shinobi might be terrible, but I gambled for 9.99.

I also grabbed Training Day and Ferris Bueller's Day off for 4.99 each.

I was going to pick up Hollywoodland too, but I'm guessing that it's down to $10 within 6 weeks and I'm trying to be a little smarter about picking up obvious future-cheapies at $20.

This week I got:

Flyboys WS
Red Dawn
The Mummy Collectors Set
The Libertine
Lucky # Sle7in
The Last Kiss

Unless you have a daughter, I doubt any of you saw Cinderella 3 from Disney, which wasn't as bad as I thought it would be (though it's shameless to charge that much for a 74 minute cartoon - - Baaaaaaah).  The biggest surprise was that there's going to be a Little Mermaid 3 as well.

I wasn't surprised when Disney started doing sequels, some of them even made sense.  But this is getting ridiculous now. (more ridiculous?)

Yeah....even though I know my daughter would have liked it, I skipped it.  20.00 is just too much for a direct to video half-assed sequel to a movie that needed no sequel.  I would have gladly bought it for her for 10.

Kevin, what's the lo' with that Red Dawn DVD? I picked it up from Wal-Mart several years ago, for something like $8... Typical bare-bones bin, of course. Has a new edition been released without my knowing it?

Damn, can't wait for Casino Royale to be released on DVD.

Anyone know anything about the Babel 2-Disc?  It's listed in the Circuit City ad, but my local store didn't have any - neither did Best Buy (who's ad it is NOT listed in).

I haven't seen it yet and want to watch it before the Oscars... but I also don't want to get the bare bones edition.

It's actually better than Cinderella 2, which was a half-assed, non-sequel where Disney screws the public by stealing three of their own 20 minute cartoons and putting them together to market as a movie >:(  This one at least is quasi-Disney-ish with songs, a plot and that crap.  It's not the worst sequel they've put out, and I can say that with confidence having seen it 20 times now.  I bought Flushed Away this week just to get a change of scenery.

If there is, it won't be blessed by the filmmakers. They loved the stuff they dropped, but they're smart enought to know that the material destroyed the pace.

An interesting tid bit for the 25th Anniversary release of Blade Runner.

Title: TV DVD Sets
Post by: Brian on May 11, 2007, 09:47 AM
I was curious how many of you buy TV DVD sets, and what helps you to decide which to purchase?  We have a fair amount of TV on DVD sets, picking up many of our favorite shows, but I'm starting to find that the majority of them sit on the shelf without being watched much.  We do get good use out of the comedy ones, and watch them during our lunch break or on weekends, etc. - such as The Office, Scrubs, Arrested Development, Simpsons, etc.  Some of the other sets we've picked up, don't end up getting watched much - at least right now.  I keep thinking that "someday we'll want to see these".  Do any of you have this happen with TV DVD sets that you pick up - or do you just avoid picking them up?
Title: Re: 2007 DVD Releases Thread
Post by: Rob on May 11, 2007, 10:22 AM
I have a few TV sets - one or two that are current but mostly ones out of nostalgia like Alf, McGyver, Seinfeld, X-Files, Family Guy, Simpsons...  As for new stuff, I have Lost, Arrested Development, Curb your Enthusiasm...and I think that's pretty much it.

And for the first time in months' I'm really excited about the releases next week.  The Fountain, Pan's Labyrinth, and Seraphim Falls all on one day.  Oh my.

I only pick up TV series that mean something to me. It really has to have been something impressive. So far the only ones I've got are BSG Seasons 1 & 2 (+2.5) and Firefly and 3 seasons of Seinfeld. It seems I don't watch Seinfeld as much since it's readily available on TV every night.

I'm hovering at about 850 individual movie DVD's at the moment - of which I've only watched maybe half at best   :-\  I finally completed my G1 tv dvd set.  Other than that I have Family Guy, Futurama, Chappel Show, Reno 911, Seinfeld, the Simpsons, simple life (don't ask), Southpark, & 24.  I know that I'll never watch them, but there nice to have lying around.

I don't have too much in the way of TV DVDs really, just a couple of series:
Star Trek original series (and animated box set)
Battlestar Galactica original series
Spiderman animated series - the original from the 60s
Buffy the Vampire Slayer  :-[
Firefly
Family Guy

Most of the rest simply don't interest me, but I spend relatively little time watching TV anyway (I'm perpetually out of touch with what people are watching and talking about :-\).
Title: Re: 2007 DVD Releases Thread

I have all the available seasons of Smallville on DVD, Firefly, Buffy Season 1, Angel Season 1 and 5, Chappeles Show, Lois and Clark The New Adventure's of Superman season 1 & 2, The Batman Animated Series all available seasons, Tourgasm, and Popeye the Sailot Man 75th Anniversary Edition.

Out of all of those, Firefly and Smallville are the only ones I keep in regular rotation in my disc player. I've held off on Seinfeld and Scrubs due to their constant TV rotation. I like the option of having television shows for my TV if the cable goes down. Same principle as a gun in the closet. It's nice to have if you ever need it...not that you WANT to need it.

we have lots of tv shows on DVD.  recently we have been trying to be more discerning because they tend to only get watched once.  i really like to watch the shows like 24, lost, or heroes that are one continuous story line all at once, but after we watch them they just sit around.

More on the release of the Blade Runner DVD.

Blade Runner Final Cut Due (http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire/index.php?id=36328)

Quote
Warner Home Video will issue a new remastered director's cut of the classic SF movie Blade Runner in September now that it has cleared up rights issues, followed by a theatrical release of a version promised to be truly director Ridley Scott's final cut, Variety reported. Warner's rights to Blade Runner lapsed a year ago, but the studio has since negotiated a long-term license.

The movie has a troubled history. When Scott ran over budget, completion bond guarantors took control of it and made substantial changes before its 1982 theatrical release, adding a voice-over and a happy ending. That version was replaced by the much better-received director's cut in 1992, but Scott has long been unhappy with it, complaining that he was rushed and unable to give it proper attention.

Scott started working on the final cut version in 2000, but that project was shelved by Warner soon after, apparently because the studio couldn't come to terms with Jerry Perenchio over rights issues.

The restored "director's cut" will debut on home video in September and will remain on sale for only four months, after which time it will be placed on moratorium. Blade Runner: Final Cut will arrive in 2007 for a limited 25th-anniversary theatrical run, followed by a special-edition DVD with the three previous versions offered as alternate viewing. Besides the original theatrical version and director's cut, the expanded international theatrical cut will be included. The set will also contain additional bonus materials.

Can't wait for 300 myself.

As for TV on DVD, I've kept my purchases to a minimum. I have:

Firefly
BSG
Babylon 5
Star Trek: TNG
Simpsons

I want Band of Brothers, just haven't picked it up yet.

Young Indiana Jones And The DVD Release. (http://www.cinemablend.com/dvdnews/Young-Indiana-Jones-And-The-DVD-Release-5150.html)

Paramount is already setting up the runway for as much Indiana Jones commercialism as they can get out of next year’s Indiana Jones 4. The awesome DVD set they released with the trilogy is still too new to be double dipped (at least not until they can release it with an “advance look” at the fourth film) so what is a studio to do? Well, fortunately they have a television series that fans have been chomping at the bit for, so now it’s time to release it.

According to TV Shows on DVD, Paramount has announced the upcoming release of “The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles” to be released in three volumes. The first of the volumes will hit stores on October 23rd, almost five years after we were originally planning to enjoy Indy’s travels as a youth.

For me, this is great news. I was a fan of the series – at least the portion that starred Sean Patrick Flanery (“The Dead Zone”) as a teenage Indy with his friend Remy. I just couldn’t get into the young, young Indiana Jones, whose adventures seemed insignificant to me. The series was produced by Lucas and bookened by an elderly Indiana Jones, telling his story to some willing listener. Maybe Indiana Jones 4 will finally show how crusty, old Indy got that eyepatch.

Paramount hasn’t updated their press site with any information, so TV Shows on DVD is our only source for this right now. More details and artwork as Paramount releases it.

About time!  8)

I recently picked up 28 Days Later and Star Trek Wrath of Kahn... both at something like $6.50. I'll probably be ordering the Muppet Show Season 1 pretty soon... Can't decide if I want to order Season 1 and 2 together at Amazon or if it'd be cheaper to just get them individually from someplace like DVDDiscount or Overstock.

I went ahead and ordered Season 1 and 2 of the Muppet Show... got them together at $60.77 from Overstock. The coupon codes are pretty lame with Overstock, as nothing seems to apply to media-related products - shipping isn't free, either. Still beat Amazon by a few bucks.

Season 2 is expected to ship August 7th.

Worthy of a blind purchase?

Read this review and answer that question on your own:

Quote
I just saw a movie that’ll give your eyes boners, make your balls scream and make you poop DVD copies of THE TRANSPORTER. It’s called 300. I don’t know what the title has to do with the movie, but they could’ve called it KITTENS MAKING CANDLES and it’d still rule.

It’s about these 300 Greek dudes who stomp the sugar-coated **** out of like a million other dudes. I have a feeling that a lot of high school sports coaches are going to show this film to their teams before they play. Also, gay dudes and divorced women are going to use screen captures for computer wallpaper.

The movie takes place about a million years ago, and it’s sort of like a prequel to SIN CITY. Except way less guns and cars but twice as much skull splitting. If you watch this movie and go into a Taco Bell, and say to the cashier, “I need some extra sauce packets” guess what? You’re getting twenty sauce packets because your face will punch him in the brain.

I can’t spoil the plot because THANK GOD THERE ISN’T ONE. Just ass kicking that kicks ass that, while said ass is getting kicked, is kicking yet more ass that’s hitting someone’s balls with a hammer made of ice but the ice is frozen whiskey.

TWO COOL THINGS ABOUT THE MOVIE AND ONE THING I DIDN’T LIKE:

    COOL THING ONE:
    HEAVY METAL DURING BATTLE SCENES

Who gives a **** if the music isn’t historically correct? LORD OF THE RINGS could’ve used some Journey. This movie has that chu-CHUNG kind of metal that you hear in your head when your shift supervisor at Wetzel’s Pretzel is telling you that you’ll have to stay for clean up and you wish you had a sock filled with quarters in your hand.

    COOL THING TWO:
FOES, MINI-BOSSES AND A BIG BOSS

Basically, the Greek dudes are fighting these Persian dudes, but the director, who must have a dick made of three machine guns, does it all like a video game. The Greeks fight every death metal video from the last ten years. There’s wave after wave of giants, freaks, ninjas, mutants, wizards, and a hunchback who looks like he’s got Rosie O’Donnell on his back.

Would I have been happy if Dom DeLuise from HISTORY OF THE WORLD, PART I had shown up? Maybe, but this movie more than makes up for that glaring oversight.

    NOT SO GOOD THING:
    DUDE NUDITY (“DUDE-ITY”)

These are Greek times, when there were a lot of naked women around. And there are some naked women in this film, but almost every naked woman scene has a muscular dude giving the screen an ass picnic. Dude-ity is something directors put in their movies so people will think they’re serious, I guess, and not just throwing in naked hotties.

Any directors reading this – IT’S OKAY TO JUST THROW IN NAKED HOTTIES.

Can’t someone make a movie about naked Amazons and call it PAUSE BUTTON?

My final analysis is 300 the most ass-ruling movie I’ve seen this year, and will probably be the King of 2007 unless someone makes a movie where a pair of sentient boobs fights a werewolf.

I'd have gone over on Tuesday after work but forgot about that set being available.  Checked Best Buy's web site and no stores within about 100 miles of me have it and it's sold out on-line also.  That's pretty insane.

I got mine at Wal-Mart.  They had probably a dozen or more.  It wasn't in their "new release" section, but just tucked in with the rest of the "Fs."

I've got the original Flash Gordon release on DVD, which, after growing up with the muddy VHS, I thought was pretty okay.  The restoration they've done for this new release is really impressive.

What an acid trip of a movie.

Here's my score from yesterday.  Might not be the best titles out there, but they were just too hard to pass up at $5 a pop from Movie Gallery - they're related to Hollywood Video....I'll usually wait a few weeks to buy the newer releases which are buy 2 get 2 free ($30) but they've got these great $5 sales every so often..

Alexander
Behind Enemy Lines II
Benchwarmers
Black Dahlia

I just saw 300 as well, and thought it was OK.  Honestly I went into it thinking it would be nothing but Leonidas yelling like an enraged spastic, at least based on the various commercials and previews I saw.  :)  I was actually somewhat disappointed in the battle scenes.  They were OK, but the fast-mo/slow-mo action got boring and tiresome, as did the laughable blood splattering.

Oh, and I don't remember much dudity either.  I think we saw the ass of Leonidas right before he nailed Queen Gorgo, but that was it, wasn't it?  There were more six-packs than the average convenience store, but I don't consider that dudity.

umm....I hope I'm reading this article (http://enewsi.com/news.php?catid=192&itemid=11645) wrong, but it appears that Paramount/Dreamworks will only be supporting HD DVD...I'm all for digital clarity and all, but I'm just not ready to dump my entire "standard" DVD collection just yet.  I'm hoping that this just means that they're dumping the Blue Ray format and are just sticking with standard DVD's and the HD stuff.

I'm with you on that. Then again, maybe that's what VHS junkies said when companies announced they would go DVD only from then on.

Perhaps but that is a whole different format. A disc is a disc. They can make a DVD played to play them all the question is will they.

Me either - I finally jumped into HD the other week and bought an up-converting DVD player.

300 and Episode II both looked kick ass on it.  "Near 1080p Quality" is what they bragged on the box.

Anybody remember House?

HECK YEAH! I remember my Mom taking me to see 1 and 2 in the theaters. The cast in 1 is just priceless. I picked those movies up back when Anchor Bay put them out together in one case as a LE deal. It's out of print now but I love it...

As for me, I just picked up Dexter: Season One @ Target w/the bonus disc and I have to hit Best Buy up on the way home for The Dark Crystal: 25th Anniversary...

I had lots of VHS  back in the day, and I held out for DVDs to be very cheap.  At first I bought a few DVDs and started a "collection", then I just blew it off.  After seeing my old VHs becoming scond rate, I said I woudn't go through that again.  At this point, I buy maybe 2-3 DVD a year, and rent all of the others I want to see.  I have a feeling that Blue Ray and HdDVD will soon be made obsolete when we're all able to downlaod a movie from the internet.

Post by: iFett on August 21, 2007, 05:02 PM
I think I was around 200 VHS movies before I finally jumped ship and sold them all.  Believe it or not - TPM was my very first DVD and I didn't even pick that up until a year after it was released when I got my PS2.....Now I'm well on my way to 1,000 DVDs.  I know that I should slow down/stop, but it's my other passion of collecting besides Star Wars.

I'm just waiting for this whole Blue Ray/HD DVD thing to thin out to see what happens.  I can see DVDs on there way out, but it doesn't seem likely that it would be very soon at least IMO.  It was painful to rebuy those 200 movies on another format and I really don't feel like doing it again...so soon especially with the amount of titles I have now.  I mean CD's have been the retail standard for audio for the past 20 years so I kinda thought that the DVD would have a longer life span.

Circuit City had the HD version of 300 playing on one of their widescreen TV's, this evening... I stopped long enough to confirm for myself that the detail of the HD pretty much puts the DVD to shame. I still don't see myself upgrading any of my DVD's for a very long time, though... I can't imagine a lot of my movies actually improving in terms of transfer, besides films that I really obsess over (Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Jaws, etc).

Really, do I need Ernest Goes To Jail in HD format?

No problem.
I had yet to see Serenity when I picked it up.  I recently finished watching all of the episodes of Firefly (first time I ever saw those), so the DVD release couldn't have come at a better time.  What a great film and series.

That's sort of where I am at the moment.  I've slowed my DVD buying down to a snail's pace.  I'm only buying movies (pretty much) that are cheap, and I know I won't be wanting to upgrade in the future.  I'm holding out on the new Blade Runner set because I know I'll want that in High Def....

I can't wait until they have a damn answer on this Blu-Ray / HDDVD thing.  I've got the TV, I just don't know which one to buy.

From Wikipedia... (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HD-DVD)

Compatibility
Backward compatibility will be available with all HD DVD players, allowing users to have a single player in their homes to play all types of HD DVD, DVD and CD discs. There is also a hybrid HD DVD format which contains both DVD and HD DVD versions of the same movie on a single disc, providing smoother transition for the studios in terms of publishing movies, and letting consumers with only DVD drives still use the discs. DVD disc replication companies can continue using their current production equipment with only minor alterations when changing over to the format of HD DVD replication. Due to the structure of the single-lens optical head, both red and blue laser diodes can be used in smaller, more compact HD DVD players.

So there you have it.

Then add a spectacular 10-part documentary that takes you where no Die Hard fan has gone before, plus an uncensored interview with Bruce Willis on the studio backlot and more. With over 2 1/2 hours of special features, this is the ultimate Die Hard experience. Yippee-ki-yay!

The 2-disc edition of Lord of War is on sale at Target for $7.50. I've seen better deals on the 1-disc version, but I was holding out for a good price on the deluxe. I picked one up tonite when I went there for gym shorts and the Holiday Special Fett--as you can imagine, the first errand was more successful than the second.

I also picked up the unrated 2-disc of Boondock Saints the other day on impulse, but at $19.99 I think I'm going to return it and hold out for a cheaper deal.

Look at it this way though ...

After they combined and to a certain extent reedited the eps, I believe there's seven hour-and-a-half "movies". Seventy bucks on Amazon is around ten bucks per feature, which is pretty much the going rate for regular movie DVDs. *shrug*

Then there's enough documentaries and interactive features to make the LOTR Extended Editions feel inadequate.

Well something I found interesting coinciding with the rerelease of BladeRunner for the 25th Anniversary.

Blade Runner Trilogy: 25th Anniversary Edition (3CD Digipack) (http://www.play.com/Music/CD/4-/3515011/Blade-Runner-Trilogy-25th-Anniversary-Edition/Product.html#)

Universal Music TV is set to release a stunning 3CD collection to mark the 25th Anniversary of Blade Runner on December 10th, 2007. Featuring previously unreleased music from the film, bonus tracks and a brand new album of Vangelis material inspired by the film with sleeve notes written by Ridley Scott.

Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner, with its apocalyptic depiction of LA in 2019, has become one of the most celebrated sci-fi releases of the 20th century. It’s one of those films where all of the constituent parts - the set, the lighting, the characters, the sparse dialogue and of course the music - work uniquely together to produce a cult masterpiece.

The music has always been a key element of Blade Runner and there have been various versions of the soundtrack over the years, some ‘official’ and some bootlegs. But they have all either been incomplete or have suffered from poor sound quality, until now. Blade Runner Trilogy: 25th Anniversary is a 3CD set which - for the first time - puts all the pieces together, providing the complete music from the film and a lot more besides.

CD 1 features the original and remastered soundtrack as it first appeared in 1994, twelve years after the film was released. The second CD contains all the remaining music from the film that did not appear on the original 1994 soundtrack, plus two bonus tracks (“One Alone” and “Desolation Path”). None of this material has been released before.

The third and final disc will be of real interest to Vangelis fans - as it contains an entire album of newly written material composed by Vangelis to mark the 25th anniversary of Blade Runner. The music is strong and flowing, and retains the dark, atmospheric sense of the original score. There are some intriguing spoken word contributions too, from Ridley Scott, Roman Polanski, Oliver Stone and a host of distinguished actors, personalities and world dignitaries.

Full track listing details:

CD 1: Blade Runner Original Soundtrack Album

Track 1: Main Titles (3:42)
Track 2: Blush Response (5:47)
Track 3: Wait For Me (5:27)
Track 4: Rachel’s Song (4:46)

Track 10: Damask Rose (2:32)
Track 11: Blade Runner (End Titles) (4:40)
Track 12: Tears In Rain (3:00)

CD 2: Blade Runner Previously Unreleased and Bonus Material

Track 11: Piano In An Empty Room (3:37)

Track 12: Keep Asking (1:29)
Spoken word: Bryce Bolton

All music composed, arranged, produced and performed by Vangelis.

“One of the great experiences of my directing career was working on the music for Blade Runner with Vangelis at his Marble Arch studio in London where he would perform rough demo film cues for me on the fly, obsessing over every detail and capturing every moment with exceptional beauty…the final result took us far beyond my expectations.” - Ridley Scott, sleeve notes

This CD release ties in with some significant DVD products launched to coincide with the 25th anniversary. On December 3rd, 2007 a 5 DVD set ‘Final Cut: Ultimate Collectors Edition’ is released, which contains all 5 versions of the film, plus interviews, a documentary on the making of the film and a letter from Ridley Scott.

Not sure if this is available worldwide yet, but I just have to get ahold of this soundtrack.  8)

I'm sure it was good for it's time but it's pretty lame.

This seems to be true for a lot of people I know.  The folks that saw it in the 80s/90s, at the height of Harrison's "Indy/Han" mania, all seem to love it, while others who saw it later didn't like it.  Watching it now, I can see how it may not hold up if you have no nostalgia for it.

I'm positive that the reason I loved it when I watched it as a kid (my dad covered my eyes on the nudie scene  :P) was the fact that it was a sci-fi movie that had Harrison Ford as a cop driving a car that could fly as he hunted sentient killer androids in the future... what dorky sci-fi lovin' kid wouldn't like that?

Today, I still love it, but I know that my opinion of it (and a lot of my other favorite movies) is tainted by nostalgia moreso than the actual quality of the story...   ;)

I remember read about 7 years ago that Ridley Scott "spoiled" the big question that was left to the viewers to speculate on. It might be cheese (I haven't seen it in some time) but I thought it was interesting to see a futuristic Chinatown LA along with the things Jeff pointed out. There are some other things that are similar to the current BSG, too.

Which kind of ruins the whole point, doesn't it? I reject his "spoiler" and choose to take my own route... trying not to spoil that part of the movie, myself.

true...if a person could make an idea like that work, they'd have a real blockbuster of a business on their hands.

And how! Let's say a fellow, one like our friend Artoo here, gets the urge to watch a movie. Gallery after gallery of films right there for his perusal.

It's a win-win--just think of the rewards for both entrepreneur and customer!

I'll invest $300 into this idea, but I think every store should have, like, a back room for porno. Oh, and snacks up front... sort of like a real theater.

I've never seen Blade Runner either. I want to but it's never on TV neither is Robocop.

If only there was a place where you could pay like $2 or $3 to borrow it for a few days.

This may sound crazy but there is no video store in my town. The nearest blockbuster is  towns over and no parking. I dont think i have rented a movie in 5 years.

Pity there's not an easier way (http://www.netflix.com/Register) to rent...

Ironically, the last DVD I ever rented was Blade Runner, back in the Spring of '99.

I kept it for a month without watching it--because why would I take it back, without even watching it?  That's just a waste of money, right?

Finally watched it, and took it back, and haven't been back to Blockbuster since--no doubt due to the massive fine I have (and probably still have).

I am a ******* genius.

When I was a kid my dad would rent VHS movies for us from the grocery store.  We rented, and summarily lost a copy of Child's Play 3 when I was maybe 12 or so.

We didn't rent for a long time.

Several months later, we tried to rent a movie and they said my dad owed them over $1500.00 in late fees for that one tape.  My dad offered them the $20 that the movie cost to replace.

We never rented from them again.

I remember renting VHS tapes in the late 80's/early 90's and there would always be a label on the tape/case stating that there would be a several hundred dollar fine if the tape was lost or damaged...ppfft.

I'm also not sure what they did with all of their previously viewed tapes as I never saw them on sale for dirt cheap like the DVD's are now at Hollywood Video/Blockbuster etc.

Blah, I don't like renting videos. If I don't like the movie it'd be a waste of a couple bucks.
It'll air some time & all I have to do is record it.

Huh? So do you not eat out either, because if you don't like the food it'd be a waste of a couple bucks? And I can assume that you never go to movies in the theater.

Everything's a gamble. I mean ... I'm cheap but not that cheap.

I barely go to the movies too.
I just really don't care about renting. Don't know why.

Because you're insanely cheap.

Maybe.  :P
I waste my money on other things. Plus, the Robocop movies are onDemand, so Blade Runner will eventually show up.

I don't know why they were so inexpensive, but Best Buy had Carnivale seasons 1 and 2 for $19.99 each today... couldn't resist at that price, even after buying Rome seasons 1 and 2 on Black Friday with their half-off deal.

I'm making my way through the 5 disk Blade Runner set which is pretty extraordinary, but I was wondering if anyone knew why William Sanderson was all but excluded from anything documentary wise? Really makes the set less than perfect. I would have also liked to see some talk about Brion James other than his little YOB and YOD dates. Those omissions really bug me.
