Watto's Junk Yard / Check out my movie!
« on: April 29, 2007, 04:19 PM »
Hi everybody,

I haven't been to JediDefender in a while. Last fall, my dad started declining very rapidly from cancer and at the same time, I was campaigning for a new job. In January, I found out that I won an MTV/Amp'd Mobile contest to make a short film. In February, I got the job I was after and shot the movie. In March, I went to L.A. for almost a week to edit the film at the Amp'd Studio, and I started my new job part-time, while still working part-time at my old job. Last week, my dad passed away and MTV made the movie available for viewing online. My last day at my old job is Monday.

If you'd like to check out the movie, please visit my unofficial "Payoff" website. From there, click on the link that says "Watch 'Payoff' Online" - that takes you to the official website (which is still not completely finished, at least, I don't think it is), and click on the text that says "Click here to watch the movie."  I had been sending people directly to the official website, but I have no way of knowing how many hits it's getting. If you go through my page, I can watch the counter go up.  :)

Let me know what you think!

Thanks for the link. Of course, I'll have to pick these up when they come out.
Hallmark typically releases most of their new ornaments in July, then the rest
around October. They may have a "Dream Book" available in stores now that
pictures all the new ornaments for 2007.

Thanks for the link to the papercraft R2. Cute!
I've never done the "first day of issue" stamp thing, but I definitely want to get at least one of those for the SW stamps. I know they mail you a special card that cancels the stamp from the official city of issue.
Have you seen the express mail boxes?  There's three of them -- but of course you have to pre-pay the postage for the box. My husband's already fuming about that. Gotta have 'em, though.
I have a feeling Pensacola won't get one of the R2 mailboxes. If they did, someone would try to steal it or destroy it.
As for the cost of doing that -- the post office will easily make back that money by selling stamps and express mail boxes that will never be used.

The Original Trilogy / Re: Who is okay with the Changes?
« on: October 9, 2006, 02:14 AM »
Some of the changes I don't mind, like prettying up the shots of the Sandcrawler in Episode 4, just to give one example. Most of the changes, though, I don't think add anything to the film and in some cases, it seems to take away something, it messes with the pacing.  I *hate* that he took Sebastian Shaw out and put in Hayden, and I *hate* that Greedo shoots first.  It's also annoying that FX problems (like the visible pole when the Falcon is brought into the Death Star and the white lightsaber after Vader kills Obi-Wan) were not fixed when they easily could've been.

The Original Trilogy / Re: "Original" Orginal Trilogy on DVD!

I found an error. Finally got around to watching "Jedi" and there are some blue dots on the screen, doesn't look like pixillation, about an hour into it. I was just hunting around to see if it's reported anywhere else, and so far, I haven't found any reference to it. I guess I'll be swapping it out for a new one.

I never go in a dept. store without checking the toys, and I found one of the tin sets for the first time this weekend. The first Wal-mart I went to, in fact, had just one in stock, #3, and I snapped it up. I think it was $27.  I visited two other Wal-marts and didn't see any more. I hope I can get all six, eventually.

I guess I'll be checking Kmart this weekend. That's where Tim found my Spudtrooper, right before Christmas. I don't recall if we ever saw them anywhere else.

If you have a Hallmark Gold Crown card (free membership) you get extra points for buying ornaments on premiere weekend. Which earns you gift certificates for buying more ornaments, or Christmas cards, or whatever.

My husband got the UGH Greedo for me a couple of weeks ago for our anniversary; that was the only one the store had that day.

We picked up the other four needed for the Lucas mail-in today at Target. I'm not going out of my way to look for anything else in the UGH.

Now I'm just trying to figure out if there's a "best way" to open the "collectors case" thing.....  I don't usually open the toys at all.

My husband picked this set up for me a couple of weeks ago. He walked in Target looking for an anniversary gift for me, and he said it looked like they had just gotten them in, because there were several on the shelf in good condition.

I'm not an opener, but I really like the set and the way it looks in the box.

From my husband, I got Spud Trooper (I never even saw this in stores; he got really lucky there) and one of the little light and sound FX Boba Fett superdeformities.  He also got me Star Wars Foosball, which was marked down to $40 when we stopped at Wal-mart on Thursday, so we got it then.

In the gift exchange at work, I got a 12" Darth Vader in original "Collector Series" packaging and the DV superdeformity.

My mom and dad gave me a bunch of kitchen stuff. (Mom and I went to the outlet mall together a few weeks ago, and she basically bought everything I pointed to and said, "I'd like to have that and it's a pretty good price.")  My kitchen is in a "Gilligan's Island" theme, so a bamboo cutting board, Tiki head tablecloth weights, and set of metal picks in a holder shaped like a pineapple.  Plus, some bowls that don't match the kitchen, but they're purple, which is my favorite color. :)

Also, they are going to pay for me a Force FX lightsaber, which I see are on sale at Best Buy, so I'm heading out the door right now!

Woo-Hoo!

The two stores I've been going to are completely out of the watches; they've both taken down their displays now (and I was able to nab the full Darth Vader stand-up at the other store).

I haven't seen the lava lamp, but one store had
the one that looks like little chips of plastic
all melted together.  I don't care for that style
of lamp, so I passed on it.

Other Collectibles / Re: Unleashed Battle Packs
« on: December 5, 2005, 03:31 AM »
Went to two different Wal-mart's on Saturday, and I saw these battle packs at one of them.  They only had a few, and several of those were already bashed to heck.

I bought the battle droids set. The others they had were clone troopers and Utapauan Warriors.  If they go on clearance, I might pick 'em up. The only other ones I'm interested in are from the second trilogy with Han, Leia and the gang; those I'd pay full price for.
